An early morning fire Sunday ravaged and destroyed 32 out of 72 shops worth N500m located at St James Church Cathedral Shopping complex, Agbokojo Road, Ogunpa, Ibadan, Oyo state. According to reports, the fire started from one of the single storey shopping complexes, around 2.00 a.m allegedly from an electrical spark from an unidentifiable shop.

Among the affected structures were shops, offices and warehouses with full stock of agricultural produce, chemicals, sprayers, provisions, building materials, mobile phones accessories, shoe materials, hair extensions (popularly referred to as weave-ons) and store of a plywood supplier on the ground floor of the complex.

According to Drinosblog source, one of the night security guards and few neighbours living around the area noticed heavy smoke oozing out from the roof of the shops, and they attempted to put it out but when they realised that it was beyond human control, they informed the Fire Service station at Molete, Ibadan.

Intervention, however, did not come on time, leading to the heavy losses by the shop owners.

Representatives of the state government, Secretary to the Oyo State Government and the Special Adviser to Governor Abiola Ajimobi on security matters, Olalekan Alli and Segun Bolarinwa, visited the scene Sunday afternoon to ascertain the level of destruction first hand.

May be their firefighters had no water. The fire fighters arrived after shops already burnt finished.

This generation of south west "leaders" are bad "leaders".

One nigeria failed us.

Obviously one nigeria make no sense, because those "leaders" deliberately failed to make use of the vast material and human resources available as a very big country.

The way forward is let the country be divided.

I stated it over two years ago here on nairaland, after borno lagos is the next hot spot.
Government should should stand up to his responsibility.

But I commend their government that the security is not totally out of hand despite the country's economy is dead.

Lagos has more than ten percent of nigerian population.

The ethic bigots and tribal warlords oñ this platform are making it more increasingly boring for those of us who come to see threads with an objective mind. There is hardly a thread,opened on Nairaland that doesn't have an expression of foolishness from these irrational thinking people.

Many atimes,I do recommend this platform to people who have the desire to learn and expand their horizon on information, but they always come back to express their displeasure over the unnecessary fights and name calling by the tribal warlords.

If the Owner of this platform refuses to do something about this,I am sorry it could be going down.

This is no longer the Nairaland of our dreams.

As a regular person on nairaland, I think the forum is true picture of the mind of nigerians.

One nigeria is a mirage and waste of time.

In a sensible country he would be in jail for his atrocities against the country.
Maybe he needs more money to embezzle.

A man that could not succeed as president in time of plentifulness how would he succeed in this time of little money.

Despite op has no source but surely there are many aides with him there.
But they are just wasting the country's money.

What of ten of thousands of old people across the country suffering from one "illness" or the other.
