Don't mind me.. Blame my low mentality about such courses. Right from time, our Nigeria schools have always made us believe those courses are for dull and lazy students. In my secondary school, the science students were always rated higher than arts/social science students. I just read about great historians and philosophers and the impact they have made in the globe.

To the best of my knowledge, most PhD candidates get funding....

I know about 5 Phd cands in the states, n they all got funded throughout their PhD life....

Whenever I hear about PhD, I think about freebies....
So, any PhD candidate dat didn't get funding probably feel like spending his money (O.B.O)

slimmy05: PhD admission is good. Once your cgpa and GRE results are good, you have a chance of getting admitted. Not all that applied get admitted as they have slots which are quite few. Funding/ grant is not for all. There are some schools willing to give you admission without funding, but would not advice you to venture into it as its very expensive.

PhD admission has a high chance of funding. I see no reason going for PhD without funding.

You cannot be doing PhD in a S.T.E.M program in the US and not get funding. I have never seen. Except its a profit making mushroom school that just wants your tuition. You can't even find PhD in STEM programs in such schools. Quote me wrong anywhere.

It clearly says the majority of PhD students in science and engineering will get significant amounts of funding and roughly half of students doing an arts-based qualification will.

genxris: yes I got same admission from same school I applied in 2012 although I haven't get hold of d new i-20 form yet (it's ready but my relative helping me out in the admission process over there hasn't sent it down to me yet).

Well, SEVIS fee is only valid for 12 months. You must pay again.

Is your previous admission still valid? Do you have a new I-20 from the same school? Does the I-20 have same SEVIS # as the one you had in 2012?

1)The section on work says " Provide your employment information for the last five years that you were employed, if applicable". Q: I'm only allowed to enter two previous employments which covers Just three of My four postgraduate years (I could not add My immediate post-graduate job). Is that OK?

2)A section under family is "Is your father in the U.S?" Q: He's presently in the U.S for two weeks on a B1/B2 (visitor)visa. Does this have any bearng on My application?

This is very easy. Will your father return to Nigeria before your interview? If yes, no need to state it. Otherwise, state it because they may search your surname. If you lie and his name comes up, you are in big shi.t.

He won't agree with you at all. He is Mr. Know it all because he has been on the thread before us. I used to hold him in high esteem because of his contributions on the thread. I was really disappointed today. Clearly, he knows nothing about PhD admissions and won't admit it.

Yes TETFund( Tertiary Education Trust Fund) is as credible as agencies like PTDF, NDDC, Commonwealth........ it's basically used for academic staff development.

Be ready to explain like this or even with more facts to the VO. You are good to go.

However, the sponsorship letter is out but the first tranche of the fund has not be sent to my account thus I don't have a bank statement to present at the embassy. My question is this, can I go with the letter approving the release of the fund by the agency, with other documents like my salary payslip, sponsorship letter from my work place, study leave with pay approval letter..... will all these doc work for me? What other things do you think I should go with apart from the doc I mentioned? I need to state at this point that the funds will be in my account before my start date...

To the best of my knowledge, you are on track with those documents. I really don't know about the credibility of TETfund. But if they are credible and true to their word, a sponsorship letter from them coupled with the other docs you mentioned is enough.

In almost all the schools in America, PhD is a guaranteed funding (of any kind). On this thread, Graviton, have you ever seen someone admitted into a PhD program without funding?

In some rare cases, yes, we may have people like that. But, it is very rare.

Pls explain to him. PhD is more like a job offer. The US Government is even working on passing a bill that allows PhD students to be classified as H1B visa holders. I believe he has accepted but wouldn't come clean.

bimbola85: Bro,that's not how WES do their evaluation. That link is just for mathematical conversion like 3.67/5.0 calculated on 4point scale just by 3.67/5 multiply by 4 which is not how WES do their evaluation.

To have an idea of WES evaluation, go to WES website and make use of their free evaluation tool.

Mine is 3.67/5.0 and after I made use of the evaluation tool on WES website it gives me 3.23/4.0.

Someone even told me it might be higher by the time WES officially evaluated my transcript because his GNS(general studies) as it's called in my school was excluded from his evaluated grades.

Why I believed mine also will be higher is because I have low grades in my GNS and would be glad if it's excluded when WES complete the evaluation.

One love Bee.. By 90% I was actually advising the original poster that if he gets admitted into Phd from Bsc, his chances for funding are very high for biomedical/pharmaceutical sciences because they must have seen something outstanding about his undergrad. Anyway, that aside. Thanks.

I mean funding is highly guaranteed; one of the reasons why admission rate is low. It seems you like argument a lot. First of all, the criteria for direct admission into Phd is outstanding academic statistics. That happens to be the same main criteria for funding. So, what are you telling me? How much research have you done on Phd admission?
