earthrealm: so thanks, am considering 3 options.or a combination of any 2
1. reduce batt bank to 2 units. 2. set timer to power fridge only at night [note, its usually the fridge 190w and 1 laptop+chargers totalling additional 100w that may be on during the day when fridge is on too]. 3. reduce fridge runtime to 5hrs daily in the 9am to 2pm time band
wch would you advice i implement, or beta still recommend additional options, that doesnt require more expenditure of funds none of these options are good for you. You must avoid powering your fridge with batteries by all means. Your best option is to add 500w solar and run your fridge from 8am-5pm. Thank me after 2 years |

earthrealm: &bigrovar, whats the size of ur solar array?..i see u hv only 2 units 12v battery..and your load appears tobe even more than mine
nice point gents. part of the problem was the fridge, hving a 130w energy nameplate, but clocking in at 190w on a wattmeter, it was while trouble shooting that i made that discovery...the extra 60w x 8.5hrs is over 500w lost daily, i initially tot my consumption was about os less than 2kwh, based on the 130w x 8hrs + the other small loads, thus with my 7kwh daily generation, i hv 5kwh to feed the battery bank.
am considering this option of programming the fridge to run at night, thus hving all the energy produced during the day go towards charging the batts. has anyone tried this unconventional approach, i have 6 x 250watts 24v panels on a 60amp epsolar CC, i dont thinki can add an additional 500w to the panel bank, as that may exceed the rating of the CC, n upgrading the CC to 80amps isnt a viable option now..based on funds. will take the fridge offline for 3 - 5days and allow the batterys to be fully charged, may adopt this strategy at 2wk intervals till funds are available to do more/the weather improves.
i also hv a desulphator hooked permanently to the system you can add 500w to it and it will work fine. In case you add 500w and it got burnt contact me for replacement but if nothing happens to the cc after one month you will give me 100k |

pranil: I can second the Prag solution. I have a Prag 5 KW /6.5 KVA running for 4 years now without being switched off except Xmas in office
Handels the LED lights ( 1 .5 KW) laser printers, Photocopiers and one AC without any issue. My earlier SUKAM used to make loud fan noise on the same load and I chose PRAG as the FAN comes on only when boost charging.
The only model I know in market which is rated at 3 times rated surge power
Also, Has a power saving mode so You can throw it in Power saving when not using to allow it to charge batteries when NEPA is available without depleting batteries But it is also climbed in price now that I checked on Konga 550 K
https:///prag-48v-v-series-pure-sine-wave-inverter-2787585 this inverter does same https://www.icellpower.com/off-grid-power-inverter but the issues are 1. idle load is very high 60w for 3.5kva/24v, 100w for 5kva/24v. 2. massive charger upto 70a will never work with small generator. price not too bad |

babaegun: @GeorgeD1
Thanks for this wonderful review of the Midnight Classic 150. Quite insightful. From the pictures to the analysis, everything was just fantastic.
From the comparison, I was so sure the Midnight Classic will carry the day and you just confirmed it.
One thing you fail to mention though which I saw from the picture, the Midnight Classic can also work with Hydro & Wind power aside Solar. I think this is a plus too. I doubt if the Morning star have that capability. That triple feature is missing in most charge controllers. Most ship with the Solar capability ONLY.
What about the Android/ios/windows apps suggested by dapsyra,, the Internet ready features. The Midnight Classic is really wonderful because in other Charge Controllers, you will have to pay more to access those features.
JUO is really the man! Any day, any time. His Customer / After sales support is simply super. Don't know if the guy did ITIL self .
Once Again, GeorgeD1, Thanks a million. thanks. His model is solar and wind |

bigrovar: Thanks for this review. It adds to the heap of knowledge on here. I have always suspected the midnight classic is indeed the lion king of offgrid charge controllers due to its legendary status among offgriders. I remember reading somewhere that they and Outback are a branch from the same tree and their founders it was who pioneered the concept of MPPT solar controllers.
About JUO. He is the most understated Underestimated unassuming seller in this part. I remembered one time one of my controllers went lemon and even though it was under warranty and a replacement was on the way from the manufacturers, the time lapse meant I would be without solar insurance policy for close to 3 weeks. This happened on a saturday, I called JUO explained to him my situation and informed him of my need to have a new controller the next day in Abuja... The fact that I had the controller in my hands is not the exceptional part, it is that JUO sent the controller even though I explained to him my tight financial state and the fact that he might not be paid until much latter. BY sunday evening I was taking delivery of the charge controller and crisis was averted.
Just recently procured 4 Front Access AGM batteries from from him for a neighbour, The price he offered those batteries was so mouth watering, I give him 20K back for the boys. My neigbour called me last night to thank me for the batteries. Said they are working better than what he expected. thanks rovar |

GeorgeD1: now, for my vote of thanks:
juo is the man of the moment!
it has really been a very tortuous journey for me. i set out looking for the best and most economical way to replace my tristar mppt-60 which obviously was undersized for my solar array and i searched in a number of places, contacted quite a few sources both here and outside the forum and ended up disappointed. i noticed that most sellers still carry prices of items calculated at an exchange rate of 450 to 550 naira to the dollar. over seven months after dollar has reduced to 365 naira and below, these peeps choose to bury their heads in the sand and pretend not to be aware of the current realities. in comes juo the life saver! here was i chatting with this unassuming seller on this thread via watsapp and narrating my ordeal to him and the next thing i knew he was already making arrangements to get me a midnite solar classic 150 at an incredibly mouth-watering price. initially i thought it was all a joke until i got that much anticipated call from him telling me that my cc was ready for collection. at the end of the day when i compared what i paid to the amount that a popular online store is selling their midnite, i just shake my head in disbelief.
not only has juo proven to be a reliable guy to deal with, he has always been consistently delivering quality products at unbelievably low prices and this successful deal adds another feather to his cap. my big Bros your boy dey loyal. Thanks for being our mentor |

NiyiOmoIyunade: I know you asked specifically for advice about a new energy efficient TV to buy, but I would say you should first sit down and do the math - even an energy efficient TV would consume some watts at the larger screen sizes - say your Plasma is peak 300w consumption and the latest equivalent energy saving OLED is 100w - is a 200w energy saving worth spending 500k to 1million naira on?
If you ran your TV for say 8 hours daily, then you save 200w * 8hours = 1.6kwhr - that is about 70% of the useable power in a good 12v 200ah battery.
Consider doing an energy audit - you might find other power guzzlers you could shave off e.g. fridges and freezers don't really need to run 24/7 so you could put them on a timer overnight OR if you have solar there might be scope for some optimization if you invite a professional to audit your system - with a midpoint spend of 500k,instead of a new TV, you could easily purchase 6pieces 300w Tier 2 panels and have change left for cabling and installation fees OR you could easily purchase 4pieces new 12v 200ah batteries with at least 8kwhr useable power in them OR you could pay your Nepa bills for more than one year OR fuel your generator for at least one year as well.
If however your mind is made up or you just need to have that new OLED TV then by all means go ahead, the outlay is justified by getting your heart's desires but not necessarily the short run energy savings that may accrue - this is especially true if you are using any Renewable Energy power source where your upfront costs are already sunk. this your analysis no work at all. There are huge differences between plasma and oled, e.g crystal clear picture, upto 2160p. Highly energy efficient cos of the led back lit. It doesn't necessarily mean he can buy oled 4k, 1080p TV is still available in the market and I know it costs between 150-300k depending on the brand. Did you consider bad weather before this suggestion? Did you consider battery dod at night on huge loads? It may sound ridiculous to some people but I don't need to generate 10-15kwh daily simply because I want to stick to my old devices. Believe me if I have 2000w array I will power 1 AC, 2 deep freezers, 2 tvs, 20 bulbs, 4 ceilings, washing machine, electric iron and my house will enjoy 24/7 light, sounds impossible right? I have just 1kw array and I bought my battery in May 2014 that is over 3 years now and I wake with 25.2v even after 3 years of usage. Did you know the secret? I changed everything in my house in less than 2 years even the 1kw array is too much for me to use cos by 12pm my batteries are fully charged. I have tried to kill the T105 to no avail. I am tired of using one battery for over 3 years I want to test another battery

DUNKA: Good day house,
I currently have a 60 inch LG Plasma TV which is a wattage guzzling monster.
In the market for a more energy efficient model of any brand sized 50 inches and above.
Any advise /pointer would be really appreciated.
Regards if you are not bothered about picture quality get android tv they are energy efficient. If you are get LG or Samsung 4k less than 600k for 50-65" or get a toks for around 200-350k. Oled is the most efficient but price is over 1m for the bigger size or get a toks for 400-600k. If your budget is less than 300k look for any Chinese 4k. Please note if you getting toks be sure is not more than 2 years old, that is 2015 upward |

abunafiu: It's a blessing in disguise. Early this morning, I woke up to see that my overhead water tank stand fell destroying my 2 tanks. It rained heavily yesterday night. The rain was accompanied by heavy wind. Though the concrete stand was not properly constructed and am paying heavily for this. Anyway.. .thats gone Now I consider this an opportunity to do it better especially when I didn't plan solar water heater in the initial overhead tank stand I still intend to use concrete with enhanced reinforCement to avert future occurrence. Now I don't want to rely on what I know basically, I need design ideas from Members.
I am not happy at all as cost of building materials are still not pocket friendly.

Saipro: That would be ideal but painfully, most irons are rated at 1,500W or over. A lot of them are 1,800W and beyond if they're steam irons.
Mine is a Philips too and is rated 1,000W; I checked just now and I discovered it kicks in at 708W. I don't think one would find an iron at 100W. It would take too long to heat up and the the thermostat might never go off when in use. I own 2pcs one 500w that operates at 400w and one 100w that operates at 35w. Works very well for me
