The Global Educational ranking that placed Ghana at the bottom of 76 nations in Science and Mathematics, was based on a 2011 Data, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Education Minister said on Tuesday.Other countries in the lowest ranks together with Ghana were Oman, Morocco, Honduras, and South Africa which were ranked 72, 73, 74 and 75 respectively.

Youre worse than South Africa...worst ever...in TIMSS.
Unfortunately, Kenya did not meet the criteria to even be picked out of Africa... That makes Kenya even worse off.

The best In Africa were picked and compared to the worlds best.

If Kenya invest in it human resource like Ghana, SA and Nigeria does, it will be able to raise a lot of kenyans out of poverty and the slums

Marking scheme of course changes with questions every year. The grading system - what constitute an A or B or C or division 1 or 2 - is normally moderated to achieve a normal curve - sort of predetermined pass and failure rate . You're just too obtuse.

Ghana cannot produce nothing world class.

You graduate went they go abroad - have to basically dump their previous papers in the sea - and start on a new clean slate - go back to school - and learn everything. It like Nigeria.

Educational outcome we are talking about is not a Ghanian who go abroad - redo - everything and excel. It's homegrown kid from your basic to university who excel without stepping out of Ghana.
wow
so the grading system in kenya changes every year?

In Ghana, everyone knows an A starts at 86/100 and an F is below 40..

Please get to know what exam moderation is and stop confusing it with a marking scheme or grading.

All Ghana's graduate are highly sort after because Ghana produce world-class professionals and Ghanaian graduates are highly competitive.

Whether in Ghana or not in Ghana, speaks to the quality of Ghanaian education which enables them to become top performers in their fields and globally recognise

Look here slowpoke. Exam moderation is done to ensure that normal curves is reflected - that means the marks/grades varies year to year. In kenya we do not do that. Not anymore. We keep it constant. An A is the same - even if exams were a tad difficult or candidate weaker. So we have many failures because gov has refused to keep changing the normal curve....this deliberate policy to ensure kids study hard.

As for west africa's useless WASSCE. - let stick to World Bank and such comparison.

Your word really count for nothhing.
you are really dumb

Exam moderation has nothing to do with changing the marking scheme or not. Go and learn more.....
So tell me why Kenya was messing up with marking schemes.... was it that desperate to end mass failure?

Yeah let's stick to what the outcomes are

A better educational system will never have mass failures on the levels that exist in kenya.
The Ghanaian educational system produce world class expertise in all field from nuclear science, to medicine onwards to engineering and tech.

Something that the kenyan educational system can't match

That puts WASSCE above KCSE the other useless one

Before even this WB report smiley

2017, the World Economic Forum rated Kenya’s education system as the strongest on the African continent. In 2018, the World Bank ranked Kenya the top African country for education outcomes (1st out of 43 mainland countries). In 2019, a Kenyan was named the most outstanding teacher in the world and awarded a prestigious $1 million prize.
I think we all know not to take WEF seriously.... a gathering of messed up liberals who will boldly tell the world that Togo has better education system than Israel and Spain.

What has awarding a teacher got to do with producing better outcomes that can be competitive worldwide?

The Ghanaian educational system create world class human resources that can compete worldwide in all fields of specialty they choose. grin

Just accept it dumb kid

You used moderation wrongly and kenya is to blame for that.

You used moderation to talk about marking scheme and that shows your lack of understanding of what Moderation is...

The is nothing like normal curve in exam outcomes because each year, the curve varies.

Kenya has high HCI scores but it doesn't translate to actual. With high HCI, kenyans need not to be poor to the extent that they currently are.
Unemployment shouldn't be as high as it is In Kenya.
Kenya productivity shouldn't be as low as Zimbabwe.

Kenyan kids wont even score 39 out of 100 which is a failure, should they sit for a WASSCE.
WASSCE is highly competitive and our graduates compete with the best of the world.

The first part don't make sense. That is indictment of the Ghana education. I guess you went for afternoon track.

The 2nd part - Kenya exams are not moderated - they were times they are moderated to achieve a "normal curve" but not anymore.

Most exams worldwide are moderated to get that normal curve. Normal curve mean an A could be go as low as even 50 percent...now an A is A so kenya kids will fail - because it expected same standard of exam would apply to say kids in Finland or Japan.

I hope with your poor Ghanian education you understand normal curve and moderation of exams.

Kenyans take exams seriously - and has historically does that - teachers can even get killed for school underperformance. Kenyan kids definitely study harder than most countries in Africa....at least the one I know.
Its because of terrible kenyan education, that is why you can't read clauses to understand.

I wonder what you mean by not moderated and moderated, again, let me repeat what Obaaderemi told you.... "dont throw about English words you dont understand".

Sorry, it's only in barbaric countries that teachers get killed for exam outcomes.

Kenyan kids are badly taught and the result is what we see from you.... bad at math, Science, English, Engineering and Tech.

You personify an oxymoron - I would have called you a slowpoke but here you're a rare specimen. Togo and Ghana are on the same plank and south africa...under performing. The methodology is solid.. HCI..is based on solid emperical data...maybe they are few outliers..but generally it cannot help Nigeria at the bottom of any index out there.

What will help Nigeria is facing her's problem head on. The myriad of problems.

Kenya we keep telling you is very progressive country - a country that is largely semi-arid and barely any minerals or natural resources - and yet does better by African standards - and is clearly a regional north star - is to be admired.

If you were not so obtuse - you'd have realized - that kenya without 2 million barrels a day of Oil like NIgeria or Gold like Ghana or arable land - is able to achieve this thanks to it's investment in HCI.

And it no doubt not only World Bank - but many others have noticed - Kenya very impressive HCI scores. For how else would you explain Kenya impressive progress ? No natural resources? Human resource.

Kenya high quality of education and it's outcomes have been praised and recognised long before WB thought about HCI index. Heck Airtel/Zain had to cancel their African show coz kenya teams won nearly everything from quarters.....except for a fluke by Ibandan in one year.

For example - this not World Bank.
https://www.biznews.com/africa/2018/03/05/south-africa-kenya-education-schooling

To get a sense of Kenya’s historical overperformance, consider the 2007 results of standardised tests for sixth graders conducted by the Southern and East African Consortium for Monitoring Educational Quality. Kenya’s average score was 557 points. That’s well above South Africa’s average of 495 points. Kenyan children’s basic literacy and numeracy skills were stronger than South Africa’s.
No one invest in HCI

You are a confuse kid. All the countries you are trying to compare Kenya to, spend more per child in both education and health.
Hence why SA, Ghana and Nigeria have more productivity than Kenya.

Resources is not what makes a person productive, it's the grooming and the available opportunities.

This explains why Kenyans are so poor despite a huge arable land that remain fallow because kenyans are not smart enough to acquire irrigation technologies.

Despite all the natural resource in Kenya, the country cannot even afford to carry out geological surveys.

Kenya does not invest in it human capital and that is why the country lack critical experts needed to run it.

Study the law of averages. That may help you. Otherwise South Africa has a world class part of it - and the part - where the KwereKwere are killing Nigeirans and Somalis for stealing their jobs...a typical Somali has no schooling except Islamic basic education of Koran in Madrassa...and yet a typical Somalis is better than a typical South African.

South Africa outside western cape and outside the seggrated enclaves in cities; it a hell hole. A kid in Soweto doesnt receive the same education with a kid in Sandton.

In a place like a kenya - you find a kid in Turkana competing with a Nairobi Kid. Nigeria obviously is messed up..Northern kids are in BOKO HARAM smiley western education is evil movement.
It is base on averages that a person will readily pick education in south Africa over education in Kenya, because of the world class graduate SA schools produce.

You are talking as if Kenya kids are not massively failing in schools. How does that even happen?

The list is solid. Ghana is at 0.45...both Togo and South Africa at 0.43...and Nigeria at 0.36. I think you overrate South Africa - it has one worst education systems - and it one of the most unequal countries. It like North Nigeria essentially where a few oil barons are thriving while everyone else is poor. One Dangote for 100m Al marajis. In South Africa - the 10 percent mostly white and coloured and Asians - control the economy - while the blacks receive one worst education. Testing or assessment has been done...and their kids normally come bottom in Southern and Eastern Africa....except for just one province of Western Cape (white majority). Their teachers I think also perform so poorly they would get 70% of a the kids exams compared to kenya teachers who'd scored 95 percent.

As regard Health care - HIV-AIDS has devastated Southern Africa countries - with South Africa the worst hit - thanks to Mbeki and his HIV denialist. I think one point 30 percent of the population were infected. HIV because it attack body immunity - pretty much wrecks all the health indicators - and you can see what it did to South Africa life expectancy and health care system.

The blame squarely lies on fumbling ANC - they should have concentrated on educating the black majority - and what they did on HIV-AIDS should be a crime against humanity - for no other country fumbled as they did - and let the disease ravaged it's citizen. Mbeki should be tried at ICC.
what's with all these conjectures and plenty of talks..?

Any country that utilises its Human resource will not have the kind of poverty and unemployment in Kenya.
That country will also have a higher per capita production and productivity.

The list is based on assumptions and not reality.

Kenya is not a match for SA in education or health care, SA has one of the best educational systems on the continent and the number of foreign students trooping there is a testament to their standards.

The advance medical treatment happening in SA that can not be found in Kenya is a testament to their level of healthcare provisions.

Im talking Commercial loans

EDAIF and GHANA EXIM BANK are giving Commercial loans at 2.5% and 8% respectively, to businesses.
If you cant read, are you also blind ?

You make too much noise, no loan institutions quote monthly rate.

Maybe in kenya, your Commercial banks quote their rates monthly so you think it is like that everywhere.

Commercial loans in Kenya starts at 15% and that is madness, no wonder kenyan businesses are not competitive and they cant export anything.

No bank in Kenya offer commercial loans to kenyan businesses below 10% interest rate
grin 15% is great for you, so what should Ghanaian businesses getting loans at 2.5% say ?

You are so desperate fix the Kenyan economy and banks in Kenya will grow and have large balance sheets like Ghanaian institutions, and Kenyn companieswill be able to create jobs to reduce your country messy unemployment and poverty situation.

Being a lunatic here and typing nonsense about economic stuff you dont understand will not change this for Kenya. Tell your finance minister to come and listen to sound economics from me.

For as long as 15 years, Ghana inflation has been at 7% to 10% and that is good for a fast moving economy like Ghana.

Exim banks do not finance international trade, they finance businesses to expand and enter foreign markets.

That is the kind of wisdom that Kenyan politicians dont have and that is why the kenyan economy is a paper economy cheesy grin

That is why kenya is experiencing hyper inflation and that kind of whole in economics is a deep hard one to get out of.

The Ghanaian Cedi is the best performing currency on the continentit has been so for 8 years and it has been one of the most valuable on the continent for 50 plus years.
When you come to understand currency values, you will know how backward your shilling is (manage currencies usually are)

The kenyan shillings has been on the backward level of the Zambian and Zimbabwe currency # valueless.
rvp20182:
The cartoon.
We are talking commercial loans - where Ghanaians get them from 25%- to 35% - they don't even quote annually in west africa - they use monthly interest rate.
Kenya commercial loans are btw 13-15%. This is very good.
Our base rate is 7% - which is very very good.
Remember all interest rate - is banking margins plus inflation. Without fixing inflation - your country will be in a mess.

Now when it comes to development/special banks - Kenya has a lot of that.
Majority issue loans from 0-3% - likes of Afriexim, shelter africa, afc, east africa development bank, etc etc.
Not 8% like Ghana

Your country is big joke.

For as long as I recall - kenya core inflation has always been 5% or under - mostly 4%.

Therefore to get interest rate that commerical banks charge you do bank margins+(deposit rate) + inflation.

Kenya deposit rate is around 8 percent+ 5 percent inflation plus 2-3 profit margins - 13-15% is what commercial banks will charge you.

Which is very very great in Sub Sahara Africa.

Ghana - 30% and above is the usual interest rate your bank will give you. Most of commercial loans in Ghana start at 35% - and how you're able to repay?

Of course you can't - which is why your BANKS ARE VERY TINY.

Do not come here with lame EXIM BANK that finance international trade or such special banks.

And of course you CEDIS will continue to weaken and weaken - no matter how many times your redominated.

It will get zeros and so many zeros eventually.

10yrs - it gone from 1 cedis to a dollar - now to 6 cedis to a dollar. That is serious inflation.
