The State ATWAP has already registered with enforcement agencies to the tune of hundreds of thousands of Naira . . .this is to ensure that whoever flouts his rules have their vehicles impounded and their factories closed, to add to that the factories would have to pay a stipulated fine.

Plz, who are these enforcement agencies?
Are they Atwap members or are they foreign bodies contracted to do the job?

Water now N100 per bag for distributors and N120 for others in Lagos. Kabarka is PH doing anything new concerning prices
i must congratulate you producers in lagos for achieving this.
Keep the flag flying.

This is why i advice anyone interested in this biz to also play the politics involved in the biz by joining ATWAP.

Unfortunately,in PH the story is not the same.
Our meeting was held on the 10th jan,2012 where a new price regime of N100 per bag and a penalty of
N50,000 for defaulters was agreed.Uptil now there is massive price cut in most zones despite the existing advantage of N10 per sachet.

''Tips for newcomers
''

plz endeavour to attend Atwap meeting in the zone you intend to operate. This will avail you opportunity of knowing the kind of persons  in the biz.

A group of persons that can resolve issues with one mind is an asset especially at this time of price increment or better still at a time PRODUCERS want to take what belongs to them.
BusinessRe: Pure Water Biz(Discuss) by kabarka(op): 5:36pm On Jan 23, 2012
They are ceasing owners vehicle because the price increment is overdue.

Why didnt the increment take place before now?

This is a fast moving biz as a result, every enterprneur wants to venture into it.This has created unhealthy competition in the industry where newcomers endlessly cut price to undo old timers, forgetting that it has taken the old timer time to build the market they have.

Most newcomers do not ask necessary question b/f starting and also have no  entry strategy as a result are prone to being desparate. The most grevious offence they commit is lacking the nitty gritty knowledge of the biz.

This is also why the failure rate is high.

Ever before in my area,ATWAP set up a committe in june 2011 to  come up with a roadmap to establish N100 per bag.The report was submitted on August 9,2011 and posted on this thread.
The committee fixed take off time to be january which coincided with SUBSIDY.

@prettylil
The vehicles you see being ceased are erring producer who are not complying with recommended price.

Please can you tell us how they go about achieving this,
What kind of permit do they have for the operation?

Hi Kabarka and madam L.
I have just gone through the thread. you guys are doing a great job, may God countinue to increase you.
i have been interested in this biz for a while now but due to d nature of my job could not start off. i even got Madam L's no before but cudnt follow up after a visit to her place but we didnt meet.
Now am ready to venture into it. i have decided to use a portion of our compound in benue state for d factory although i havent fenced it off yet. i have a borehole now, took the factory plan to NAFDAC, and was told its ok, and have started the foundation. according to an earlier thread, someone mentioned that the soakway has to be not less than 10m away from d borehole, problem is i dont have enough space to locate d soakaway that far. and already dug a soakaway before i saw this info. is there away this can be waved off/ allowed?
Please i need direction on :
what need to do next,
awhat equipments to buy and
where to buy them as i have searched in my location and cant seem to find sellers. (as i might need to consider buying and transporting to over here?)
Eagerly await your answers. thanks
According to the rule,it is 10m away.
But if this is all you have to change your life,i have an idea for you.CHECK UR INBOX.

As for equipments ,i will send you mail.

how is everyone out there? i am making the most of the strike period by selling seriously around my area something i wasnt doing before. amazed at the large volume i sell a day just close to my factory. i must continue doing this area sales after the protests. by the way water price is not coming down no matter de agreed price of petrol. subsidy was removed on diesel long ago and the price increase was overdue. kabarka how is port harcourt today?
so finally  you have catch in on this your neighbour, you envy so much.
It is a great opportunity taking over a niche.

But Note- the following could be the reason why this happened
1,the owner couldnt go the extra mile to secure petroluem product.

2, probably his key workers are not back or he has problems with them.

YOU CAN ACTUALLY TAKE OVER THAT NICHE BY

a,sustained attack over time.

b,Do what the customer never believed possible.
Gudluck.

In port-harcourt,we are  pushing for #100 per bag.
We are making some progress.

I Hate 9ja:
2) how does it cost to produce a 1"k.g of raw nylon from the factory cos it's around 410-420 if i'm not mistaking.3)with the issue of fuel subsidy as it been affecting your turnover(gain).4)WILL u be increasing the salary of your worker's if so by wat %.5)now that a sachet is 1 for N10 and 2 for N15 due to fuel subsidy is evrytin still balancing up
@i hate 9ja
ans
cost of material is different from cost of producing the material. This amt (410-420)is just cost of material.

Dont be in a hurry to exercise generosity, allow things to settle b/c nobody knows what you were passing thru at the time wind of subsidy has not started.

Everything shld be balancing up in your domain @N120 per bag.
Now as i said before,N10 per sachet is old news in my domain.I think its heading to 5yr now.It sounds good but the bad thing abt it is that it is  BUYERS market not PRODUCERS market.

N10 increment?Which means your selling N60 per bag. Well, lagos is the center of excellence and it could be the best approach in lagos so that you dont loose your customers in a jiffy.

In ph,N10 per sachet is old news. Then a bag goes for b/w N60 and N70,N80.
But now,we sell N100 per bag

@cejo. why are u cutting water too big? some hawkers at oshodi told me once that they avoid big sachets it is heavy load to them. they will love to sell your water if you dont overburden them.
The above response is a good point from a concerned citizen.

But my viewpoint is as
follows-
i recommend sticking to the standard size of 50/60cl because the higher your size is above this standard size, the lower the yield and your PROFIT is affected instantly.

PHIL2011:
@ Madam L & Kabarka (your comments were vital eyeopeners for me). Our Pure Water business just got it’s NAFDAC number and is housed in payed off premises (in Benin: bag of pure water sells for 50N/ b80N in raining/ dry season) with:
- 1 packaging machine
-b 1 Toyota Dyna (4 tyres)
1) Why should there be a sales man among the workers? What does a sales man exactly do – since I thought the truck will be driving around and selling as it goes?
2) How can I team up with an excisting company to gain experience whilst having the Nafdac number and all machinery available to produce?
3) @ Madam L – at which vital points in your company did you place your two trusted people? I have 1 trusted person (in terms of integrity and diligence, but not in terms of hands on pure water business knowledge) and would like to know where exactly to place this person. What are the parameters you check to monitor the performance thaese trusted people?
4) What about setting up distributors- other than selling to them at a low price are there other incentives you can give them?
5) @ Kabarka: could you state the areas were you believe your e-books will be an added value to the information found in this thread?
Thanks philsappmp@gmail.com
@PHIL2011
My reply goes thus:
Q1,First of all, just as in every area of human endeavour, some ppl are devoted and faithful where as some behave like LovePeddlers.
When your worker approach a prospective customer, the customer buys because of many reasons among which are
a,Way of presentation
b,Ability to open simple conversation and convince the buyer
c,availability
d,name etc
Now,theres nothing wrong abt leaving your marketing to FATE.Infact you can do that if you enjoy a LOT of MONOPOLY but if you target a competitive market, the reverse is the case. You need a worker that can create regular customer for you.Someone articulate enough to know the rate of each customer. You need a niche that will sustain you and the closer this niche is to your factory the better. This does not mean you hire a fat salary earning worker as salesman but someone that can take simple instruction.Someone who can develop good inter-personal relationships infact a peoples' person is what you need.

Q2 Make a producer friend who is ready to share ideas and experiences.Attend ATWAP meeting and get one you are not competing with.

Q3 If he is not gud @ pure water production the office work(management) has to suit him.If this person is not educated or even if he is ,you have to create a system he has to follow.Someone has to be trusted to take simple account, count and note the number of bag being taken out and reconcil it with returns.Somebody has to stand in for you in your absence.

HOW DO YOU TEST AND QUALIFY THEM?
Ans:- over time.It is not a day job.You have to teach them, guide them, try them and test them.Come in when yöu are not expected to see whats going.Create scenario that does not exist in order to test them.TEST THE STRENGTH OF THEIR CHARACTER! Whenever their's problem, inquire how he handled it.Ofcoure test them in money areas.Again sometimes you may need to know them reach house or has a strong guarantor.

Q4 The answers to this question is reveal both in words and pictures in the ebook. It is what worked for us and can work for you too.

Q5, The difference between film producers.
How to make your money when you buy your film roll.
What the bigwigs do and how you can replicate it.
How to establish accounting system that can stand the test of time.
What to do to make customer stay with you forever, for example what separates one company from four others that are competing in a niche. And lots more real alife experience.

Good day everyone, I am so happy I came across this thread, I have learnt so much reading from page 1 till 18, thanks all contributors, I noticed many came and didn't come back to give feedback, I would encourage you guys to do so. Now, I have some questions, directed to madam L, in page 14 you made mention of a franchise idea which you say is a growing trend, that of breaking the process from the production process and the sales, as for me I am interested in the bottled water part of the business and would like the scenenrio where I have an existing company bottle my water for me while I handle the sales part of the business, but I would like to see that handled under my brand name. Now I have this idea that many water companies have equipments that have capacity to bottle more than they sell so it will be good business sense to sell the extra bottling capacity to individuals like me who are ready to meet up to the challenges. So my questions are 1. Are there companies which such extra capacity 2. I would like to have the water branded in my own company name. Thanks for your response. For the record I stay in the festac area.
This is a sound idea, only if people will key into it.
The Big question is "will Nafdac approve of this?
For now i think using words like "PRODUCED BY X FOR Y" on the label may make the idea acceptable.

What i personally call the franchaise idea is ''Sharing of SYSTEMs" A good and prosperous business is all about management of systems. There could be a lot of stress handling a lot of systems.

only those that has the passion for it that can make it there.
@bethel
Your opinion is a fact.
But come to think of it why would somone start a biz he or she doesn't have passion for?

The biz is such that no matter how flooded the market is,you still sell.no one can feed a whole town. The biz attracts interest so much in nigeria because it is prosperity @ low risk.

knowing the nitty gritty(in the biz) will save you a lot.

the compound i want to use for this business is the backyard of my fathers house,
we have a  two bedroom flat at the front with a big open space at the back, i believe nafdac will approve this? since we will separate the residential from the factory.

please send me a copy                 debolabi@yahoo.com

i really appreciate your sincere concern all this while in this trend.
The law is that it be separated from residential building.but humans are not meant for the law but the law was made for humans for the sake of direction.there may be concession here and there to match the level of development in nigeria.so dont be afraid of nafdac, approach them anytime you want
