This is what we did. We choose a route and stick to it. We talked to every prospective buyer and those that accepted us became our customers. We made sure we enter the market @7.00am to increase our chances of patronage. WE MADE OURSELF AVAILABLE WHEN THE PRODUCT IS NEEDED. MONDAY MARKET is very crucial in the biz,If you delay or lose the chance to sell on monday. Then you have lost the better part of the week.We continue to push on, even on those that refused over time. If you take out water as a beginner and did not sell, dont be fainthearted ,continue to patrol your targeted niche for by so doing you pass the message to customers that you are readily available and close. They will mark you down, this pays off in hot season. All these gave us only relative success ,we did not make the kind of money we are yearning for. For christ sake,we are fresh graduates and needed to pick real cash.We were keen to press a button to win the jackpot. Then we discovered that all promises made by other pure water companies were not fulfilled. We capitalised on it. We asked many other people and confirmed this as true.We also discovered how USED they felt after these disappointments. We said oh! If thats the case. Then if we deliver to these few customer of ours,it will definitely have multipler effect. First we made sure we sold to them over time,so we are sure they are for us. Then we told them that at a coming festive period we will SHARE A GIFT ITEM X. They doubted us and said we are trying to deceive them like other companies. We told them we mean it.But the few that believed in us said if we are able to do what we said,WE TAKE OVER THE MARKET. We had to play this game. So,at appointed time,we bought and customised plenty of ITEM X,shared to our customer and the result was marvelous. Guess what? Trust women now. They carried the news everywhere that whenever we are passing, somebody will come and ask ''Are you the people sharing ITEM X? We say YES, she buys and ofcourse demand for her own gift of which my response will be ''well, since you just started buying from us,you have to buy over time to qualify for a gift. Like this a whole lot of customers joined our fold. They carried out person to person advertisement for free. WITH THIS ,THE CASH CAME. People were stunned the way we took over the market. More question on gray areas before i continue. |
@Excelboi, This is just the begining and i will appreciate it if our disscusions remain interactive. In addition to what i said above, let me say that our packaging was very UNIQUE and that singled us out. This made it hard for people to accept us but i will show you step by step how what is written in Psalm 118:22 became our portion. ''The stone which the builders rejected as worthless turned out to be the most important of all'' Now,since you have already started ,it means you have things on ground .So let us cut it short and start from where you are. |
Excelboi: Thnx for ur reply. Actually, our water company started its operations today and were able to make some sales of little above 100 bags. Most of them bought on credit in which i believe was intentional just to see how well they will sell it. There are many competitors arnd this area that was the exact reason i asked on how to attract customers as a new comer. When you started (or anyone you know who started as a newcomer) how were they able to break in despite the challenges? Pls ur input is needed or anybody who is in the biz.Beautiful,am happy you are sounding this way which shows you want to know. Let me tell you something from my own experience. when we started, our packaging and print was not the best(deep blue and red).it was not acceptable in town, customers keep on telling us to change to a common color(light blue, royal blue). infact sometimes when our water leaks the printing paint goes with it.our print was bad, infact the tiles in our production room was for a long decolored by our print.you can imagine that. In the market place,we were competing with about 6-7 competitors. some are near while some come from far. There is this particular competitor that control the larger part of the market, whenever they come out before us ,the only option left for us is to pack our vehicle and close for the day.Anyday we come out before them, customers that wish to patronise us or that was forced to partonise us due to pressure may buy 3-5 bag until their favourite customer comes. we started thinking of the way out.we started going far to people we know or have close relationship with. but the truth is that we need a close niche to survive,we need a close market because we have less cash in our disposal. Those far customers we service them in the night or early morning because we could not afford stickers. Ultimately,it dawn on us that if we are to really survive we have to FIGHT TO TAKE CONTROL OF OUR TERRITORY. Then we entered into a study.A STUDY OF WHAT? A study of our strength and weaknesses, what made us different? we studied the strength and weaknesses of all competitors, their mode of operations, the type of personnel our competitors use,the nature and state of vehicle of our competitors, their relationship with customers,Working time frame,We also discovered that promises made by these companies were not fulfilled etc AS A RESULT OF THIS WE STRATEGISED. |
hello 1Achiever, The machine is good. But here you can get Original dinglin for #320,000 or less. so since 1dollar is say #160.you can then compare and contrast. Again, the type of business to establish depends os 1,cash available 2,favourable business from your reseach 3,The type of stress you are ready to absorb. 4,perhaps age consideration and others My opinion is as follows PURE WATER PRODUCTION This will pull through because Abuja is generally a hot zone. NYLON RECYCLING only if you can articulate and cordinate your sourcing. NYLON PRODUCTION This could be okay since most producers go as far as lagos state to buy material. bye |
Excelboi: Trying to bring the thread alive. @kabarka, how can one break into the market for competition and how to win customers? thnxFor me Excelboi, this your question worths a million and i have been hungry for someone to throw it up in the direction i want to the benefit of all.But unfortunately no new comers in the industry has been able to share with us their experiences. |
saoron: Hi,Hey,give me a call. |

Plz all that reqested should check their mail.thanks |
Oyinfemi: Mr kabarka, I sent you a mail last week requesting to meet you at ph.I'm still waiting for your response oh.i have forgotten oh!, have been carried away by many activities. |
madam L: One way these days of lowering cost is to operate close to home or time supplies very well. One producer in my area who sells close to his factory, uses less than five litres to supply 400 bags while some run all the way to the Island with 30 litres to supply two hundred bags. Please everyone, look at that extract above. The important of carving out a NICHE for your product, the closer the better. Some people produce water, put it in the vehicle and make sure they run around the whole town trying to sell it.THIS IS WRONG. Look! you must be ready to fight war or outwit, your competitors to gain in the biz.Call it intellectual warfare, whatever. Funny enough, this warfare starts when you have conceived in your heart that you want to have a water factory NOT WHEN YOU HAVE STARTED PRODUCING. |
Thanks for the complements. I will forward the free documents to you right away, all things being equal. About the research material,it may not answer all your question because you have a part to play but it will help you develop right mindset and winning mentality for the biz.To obtain it,click my signature just below every of my post. |
okine4real: what is happening. i buy five and half bags of pure water in fadeyi for 300 Naira. is this pure water business still lucarative or its the bottle water that is lucrative? That qty @ that price is a sign of stiffer competition. That does not make the biz less lucrative but if you want to be successful in lagos you must acquint yourself with wisdom and accurate knowledge and information. There are factors to consider that favours lagosians more than producers outside lagos. Some of these factors they take for granted. For example: some producers outside lagos pay as much as #30,000 per ton to transport their material.Whereas this could be zero expense for lagosians. So one has to think twice before cutting price outside lagos or risk closing down.Thing that will make you profit are subtle in nature like market proximity, qty of bags customer can buy.Rate of purchase of customer.Capacity of vehicle, how cheap to get good material etc. |
It seems that the year is starting in a convenient way(people buying into franchise and marketing liberalisation). @watervendor and djsmoothy is at it. I have said before ,this a sure stress free method of running this biz. It is left for the owner to decide on when to start such system. For example 1,A factory owner may first establish a brand, then liberalise the marketing section. 2,Another may consider managing that section too stressful and so liberalise 3,Another for the sake of easier accounting 4,etc |
cybereagle: @kabarka, please can send me all necessary information required, including costs for production and distribution of pure water in Lagos. Hope to hear from you soon.Madam L is in lagos to help you on this one. |
Hi Karbarka,i need an advise on what to do,in my area where i already got half plot purely for d biz,i was told dat nobody has successfully dug borehole in d neighbourhood, because d land has some particle of limestone underneath. Also one producer in d neighbourhood is using well water.Pls would NAFDAC approve well water for me too and what do you think is d implication in d future...Pls do send me price lists of d equipments also. Thanks and God bless u....gbengabright@yahoo.com.
You need to find a reputable borehole firm that will give good service.NAFDAC WILL NOT APPROVE WELL water FOR WATER PROD. And you need RO for better purification. |
I Hate 9ja: @ karbaka and madam L.pls can u run a pure water bizness in 9ija while abroad.in a nut shell,is this bizness a absentee bizness or the owner needz to oversee all the activities @ the factory........................pls ur views and response are expected and appreciatedit is not an absentee bizness but that does not mean it can never be.It is a matter setting up a viable system.A chapter was devoted to system in pure water biz demystified. |
My Answers to okine4real's questions Interesting analysis. Your analysis no 1-2 is correct but no 3-4 is muddled .I will make it clearer for you . ANALYSIS NO 3 If your material (nylon) gives you 22bags per kg.Then 500kg will give you 11,000bags. Mathematically speaking 1kg = 22bags 500kg = ? Therefore 500(kg)/1kg *22bags = 11,000 bags This is total number of what 500kg will give you. Then, for you to get ideal total amount to be realise from this. Remember that for every 10bags you give 1bag.Ok so since 11bags = N700 11000bags = ? Therefore 11000 bags/11bags * 700 =N700,000 are you clear @ okine4real? Question no 5 in every biz overhead and salary are always there But above all you have to adopt strategies that lowers your expenses. For example it is advisable to buy new vehicle or at least direct tokunbo for this bizness.Never go for nigerian used if you cherish peace of mind. It is adviceable to be in your own land instead of rentage. Finally, the qty you sell depends on the profile of customers you have or type of market you control. Some sell 500bag/day some sell 2000bag/day etc How to create, maintain and dominate markets and how to create high profile buyers are dealt with in my own books. Am always looking forward to critical thinkers like you,okine4real. |
madam L: sanitation endedat lagos island by midnight and so supplies will resume there at the agreed prices of eighty and hundred naira for distributors and loaders respectively. we are planning to clean the island regularly rather than once in a long while. This action(sanitation) of lagos producers is a sure proof that they want to maintain the price at 80 and 100 which is very good for them. |
stanlolo85: Hello Karbaka,Have forwarded you some info. But you are not late. |
Okay,i get it.You people remove only sachet. But after removing the sachet, what do you dn with it? |
madam L: santation kicks off at lagos island as all water suppliers there will as from tomorrow begin a thorough clean up of the entire area. we will sweep pick sachets clean all gutters and drainages and move through de length and breath of lagos island. the only thing we wont do is to jump into de lagoon to pick out sachets. we want to contribute our quota to flood prevention in lagos. our distributors will also be part of this effort. we plan to put in place permanent plans for regular cleaningThat is a commendable SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY that can guaranttee ur FIXED PRICE. |
@imaawill You joined us at a perfect time. I assume ur email is i.ighedosa@gmail.com with what you have now, you be starting at an advantageous position. |
dehephzy: This is to let you know that we print on pure water sachet nylon with a very cheap price. (We print both rubber stereo and gravion)@dehephzy nice to have you here. |
@thosedays I first sent you mail on 21th sept,2012. I have also send it again today. @scalarkoko i know we have exchanged mail severally but check ur inbox. @madam L lagosians shld continue to set the pace.Am confident that if they get it right, somehow it will spead to other states. Its a matter of leadership will. As for my area,we are selling 80,70 and 60. Today i visited an old customer who told me he never bought water for more than 60 and in my presence somebody brought 110 bags for 5000. This is our situation now. |

One good thing about this arrangement is that, there is comparative sharing of stresses associated in this biz. it is actually difficult for one person to manage a whole lot of systems. it take a long time to be used to such stresses. come to think of it. it gives a whole lot of relief, when a producer makes his money as the sachet drops from the machine. no fuel expenses,no vehicle maintenance,no L.G.A stickers etc to worry about.Today a friend producer called me that his vehicle has been ceased by a group of people demanding BIZ PREMISES OPERATION PERMIT,stuffs like that. |
Luti: I want to know the cost of a 20KVA generator to be used in running a sachet water factory with 2 sealing machines. I will also appreciate if i can get more info sent to my mail box (abbeyluti@yahoo.com) on this lucrative business.I guess it shouldnt be upto N150,000. Remember your machine is only 1.6kw which is equivalent to 2kva. |
saoron: What is going on in Lagos state. The price of a bag of pure water is as low as 50 Naira. It seems all the producers can not co-operate to sell at a fixed price. What a shame.if that is happening, well its unfortunate.i was hoping they could sustain it. |
kunlekunle: can someone here help on the price of water treatment system reqd for pure water biz and where to procure in lagos. thanksi have sent you an information,if you need a place to purchase it in lagos call me on 08063842418 |
