jln115:I apologise for my earlier comments, I was merely joking. |
iblawi:Why would anyone take internet comments seriously? |
iblawi:It's all fun bro. No harm meant. ![]() |
jln115: ![]() E pain am!! |

jln115:The deal to supply Egypt with missiles went where? Brazil left the A-darter programme. Chad deal for MRAPs thrown out the window. Denel is the largest and most important arms manufacturer in SA, the others don't really matter. Paramount group just sells MRAPs. The only other IFV available in RSA is made by paramount, they have not sold any. Milkor only really sells hand held grenade launchers. Truvelo sells snipers. That's about the SA defence industry in a nutshell. It doesn't provide any strategic importance to a country like Nigeria. |
jln115:The funny thing is the Bigfoot is still in service, while the Reva's are all kept in the bone yards. Most of the items you listed above are manufactured by Denel. Denel cannot fulfill orders, and have been losing contracts left right and center. In fact the CEO recently resigned his position, just like the previous CEO. "Denel could not deliver a paltry 6 units of T-5 artilleries to the SANDF, how would they now be able to deliver to Nigeria?". |
jln115:So you did lose a Rooivalk in accident? Most of the helicopter parts are imported from Europe. Yes Denel is the OEM of the Rooivalk, not the OEM of the parts and components used in manufacturing the Rooivalk. |
DICON Nigeria marketing defence products to the ministry of interior. We can see ballistic helmet, ballistic bulletproof vests, practice guns, smoke flares and boots, including armour plates.
|
Whyem15:They should transfer their artillery technology to Nigeria. ![]() |
kenpaul0:They only have 9 attack choppers in active service. Even with those Choppers you still are stuck with the Turkish problem. Parts are almost all imported from Europe. It's just best you buy directly from Europe. |
jln115:Your defence industry is currently on life support, and you know this. ![]() Most of what is produced by other manufacturers in RSA are mostly MRAPs, there are already 5 different types of MRAPs produced in Nigeria and 3 types are in service. It's hard to say what strategic gain Nigeria would get from importing South-African arms. The Reva MRAPs bought in 2015 are all sitting in a bone yard. With South-African arms, No Transfer of Technology, No Bueno!! |
jln115:And you never deliver. ![]() I think we would pass. |
Fynline:His source was accurate on the drones. |
Daverytimes:The problem of purchasing Russian weaponry in this trump administration is that Nigeria might fall victim to CAATSA sanctions. This is the reason we have not received our 7 remaining MI-35M helicopters. We can only realistically purchase top of the line Russian weaponry if we get guarantees from the US that we would not be sanctioned. Turkish weapons, Turkish drones are filled with imported Western components. Intact Canada has stopped exporting parts for Turkish drones, Turkey cannot deliver T-129 helicopters to Pakistan because of sanctions, it remains to be seen if Turkey can deliver Milgem Corvettes to Pakistan. This leaves us with just a few options to buy from, China remains are best source for high quality weapons. That's the reason why it's a good thing that Nigeria is investing in local production of weapons. |
Toju200:I did not see SDB 3 in 2020 budget though. |
Jimi24:I don't understand this part correctly. Are you saying the capital items are not listed in this 2021 budget and are in a separate 2021 budget? The items I listed above were not mentioned in the 2020 budget, nor in the 2019 budget. |
Looking at the defence budget, you'll be confused, but it seems procurement listed on Nigeria's defence budget is usually different from actual procurement. For example the VT-4 Tank, SH-5 artillery, ST-1, CH-4 UCAVs, ARA MRAP, Ezugwu MRAP, K-152 and MI-17s are not listed in the Defence budget. SDB3 is also not listed in the Defence budget, but Nigeria is getting them. The budget, especially on the project side might seem empty, but it more like a mirage than anything else. "The devil is actually not in the detail, but what is delivered".
|
We having been paying for 3 x JF-17s for a long time now. 3 x JF-17 also budgeted for in the 2021 budget, yet all 3 JF-17s should be delivered to Nigeria this November. I think this means that Nigeria is getting more than 3 units of JF-17 from Pakistan.
|
Odunayaw:The document doesn't actually say aselpod, but since we know the aselpod has been integrated on the JF-17, then it might as well be. |

Toju200:The 3 additional helicopters would be different from the 3 the Navy is getting from Nimasa. |
Procurement for the Nigerian navy. We are getting another Hydrographic vessel, a smaller 32 meters vessel. We would also get 3 additional A-109 helicopters for the navy. Also some Aresa boats.

12 units Super Tucano 8 units CH-4 UCAV 3 units JF-17 with Aselpod 5 units MI-35M 4 units armed AW-109K 2 units locally armed BELL-412 Nigeria now has a very, credible attack fleet.

Toju200:Open it on your laptop and go to the military side, it's too long on the phone. |
Toju200:That was since last year. Great news on the 8 units of CH-4. |
GeneralFarouq:I'm still looking through the budget. |
CAS UNDERTAKES OPERATIONAL VISIT TO KATSINA, ASSESSES PROGRESS OF ONGOING AIR OPERATIONS IN NORTH WEST ZONE The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of ongoing air operations in the North West Zone of the Country and pledged the commitment of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to sustain the intensity of operations in order to rid the Zone of armed bandits and other criminal elements. The CAS made this known today, 8 October 2020, while on an operational visit to the Headquarters of the Air Component of Operation HADARIN DAJI in Katsina to asses the progress of operations. The visit also afforded the CAS the opportunity to ascertain, first hand, the status of personnel, aircraft and logistics support facilities that had been deployed to ensure the effective conduct of operations. The CAS, who was accompanied on the visit by senior officers from Headquarters NAF, was received in Katsina by the Air Officer Commanding Special Operations Command (AOC SOC), Air Vice Marshal Charles Ohwo, and subsequently received a closed door briefing from the Air Component Commander, Wing Commander Ahmed Hamidu. Speaking to the Press after the briefing, the CAS reiterated the NAF’s commitment to flush out armed bandits and other criminals from their forest hideouts in Katsina and Zamfara States as well as in Kaduna, Niger and Sokoto States. “I am very happy with what the Air Component has been doing, especially here in Katsina as well as in Zamfara State. We have made significant progress. We have also been able to substantially deal with the problem in Sokoto State”, he added. He stated that these efforts would be intensified as more attack helicopters and fighter jets would be deployed in order to bring to an end the menace of armed banditry in the affected areas. “I assure you that very soon most of these problems will be over”, he said. Speaking further, Air Marshal Abubakar expressed his appreciation to the Federal Government for its support towards the NAF’s fleet renewal efforts, which, he disclosed, included the acquisition of 8 Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles (UCAVs) which would soon arrive the Country. He added that about 70 personnel, who are to operate and maintain the UCAVs, had already been nominated for training in China. He further disclosed that some of the UCAVs would be deployed in Katsina and Gusau, while others would be deployed to Gombe, at the newly established 203 Combat Reconnaissance Group (203 CRG) Gombe. He further stated that he would be in Gusau the following week to discuss with the Zamfara State Government on arrangements for the deployment of UCAVs to Gusau. “These UCAVs will bring substantial value to what we are doing. The whole idea is to send the right message to Nigerians that the Federal Government is doing everything humanly possible to ensure that our communities are safe”, the CAS added. IBIKUNLE DARAMOLA Air Commodore Director of Public Relations & Information Nigerian Air Force 8 October 2020
