Odunayaw: You're making it look like I'm romanticizing sanctions.
Who made the protest turn this way. Isn't it the same government that infused thugs as pseudo protesters and started this masquerade dance? Does one put fire in his bosom and expect not to be burned?
I've been out since this protest started, screaming, praying and pleading, hoping fellow Nigerians we put in power would somehow have sense. What did I get instead? Offsprings of oppression. We can discuss who started the violence all evening, for weeks if we want, however we are all losing. The government, the people and the economy. However we will continue to lose, and burn our country, or we can dialogue, discuss and negotiate a better country. Let us not forget that nation building is a task for everyone, people and government included. |

Whyem15: Response from the international community has been shameful, not a single word of condemnation. Well, as a competitor, if I were Angola for example, I'll very much like to see Nigeria burn. I want to sell oil at higher prices to more, and more clients. Nigeria is a sovereign Nation. Let us not pin our hopes on foreigners who want to protect their own national interests. Dialogue is the only solution right now. Libya, Syria, Egypt, Algeria, Venezuela, Iran you will end up burning your country and the rest of the world will lock their borders and move on. |

Odunayaw: IMO
US has another option in strengthening Chad and even France instead.
Either way you want to look at it, its not a straightforward Yes, there will be sanctions or No, there won't be I agree with you, but Chad isn't exactly a democracy. They also don't have the economy to back up. There won't be sanctions at this stage, if things deteriorate further yes. However, with sanctions who really loses, the government or the people? Since the start of this protest, the naira has been falling against the dollar, who is really losing out? What this country needs now, more than ever is dialogue. The shooting and nonchalance from the government has to stop. The general state of anarchy has to cease. I'm not in Nigeria, but the kind of things I see online and on the news is heartbreaking. With the way this protest is going, I don't see a winner. The epicenter of this protest is Lagos, not some backwater state, the heart of our economy. Let's really think this through. As an investor seeing shops looted, would you want to come to Nigeria? ".........NO way!!! |

JohnBullMySon: thought of that. But remember that there is a base in niger. The Drone base was there before the Tongo Tongo attack. Also remember unlike Russia or France the US never conducts military operations alone. They always come along with partners. With the US public already war weary with nearly 20 years of conflict in Afghanistan, all US Presidents would be hesitant to put actual boots on the ground. So the way of going around this is air support and empowering partners on the ground. I don't believe the US would halt deliveries to Nigeria, except in the event that things escalate disproportionately. Anyway we really need to try and build our defence industry. |

Whyem15: A Biden presidency will most likely crash the tucano dreams. He is one of the few US leaders who has actually spoken. Nigeria is a major US anti-terror partner in the region. I don't believe the supply would be halted. The US sees this sale as protecting US interests in the region. On one hand we see why it is important for us to develop our defence industry. |

RemoveKebab: super yes it can defeat nations without a single shot fired. How was f35 and b52 created?
Well funded universities and laboratories for research of parts and testing of new tech.
Well funded industrial infrastructure network to supply those parts
Excellent payment schemes for workers and researchers involved in production of those planes(one of the reasons it was freaking expensive)
All this could have been grounded by CORRUPTION with no single shot fired. They funded all these with how much? Why don't you tell us revenue generation of the countries in Africa? The United States spends over 700 billion dollars on defence alone, how does the combined revenue generation in Africa compare to this? You know what, thinking critically is very difficult, let's just pin it on the easy scape goat, CORRUPTION. |

Lurker4Long: Well done Ghana!
"Ghana’s Parliament approved $86,1 million in government loans to fund acquisition of 19 armoured vehicles from Israel’s Elbit Land Systems.
In terms of the agreement, Elbit Land Systems will supply nine 8×8 Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs) equipped with Elbit Systems UT30 30 mm remotely operated turrets. The order includes ten 6×6 IFVs fitted for reconnaissance operations.
The acquisition will help Ghana’s military realise long-delayed establishment of two new armoured regiments to be based in Sunyani and Tamale.
In August, the Ghanaian Army elevated 2 Independent Reconnaissance Squadron of the 153 Armoured Regiment to create the 154 Armoured Regiment. The 153 Armoured Regiment is set to remain under GAF Central Command in Sunyani when the new 154 Regiment moves north to Tamale to provide armour support to GAF Northern Command in Tamale.
Planning is underway for the establishment of the GAF 155 Armoured Regiment. The establishment of GAF armoured units is delayed by a lack of funds, logistic equipment and weapons platforms." Do you know the platform it would be based on? |

kabe1: The reason why I might not agree with you fully is because plans change.
I must admit I completely forgot about this news, however there are many things that still fall short.
Why I also agree with you is that the Nigerian navy's head of submarine unit detailed the exact type of submarine Nigeria should go for, and that information is also public knowledge. I will post the source later. The reason I have decided against posting my source on this is because before you know what's happening, I'll see a tweet on twitter with grandiose claims about how Nigeria has ordered submarines. I cannot be a party to the spread of false and malicious information. However I can say that if Nigeria was ever going to procure a submarine in the next 5 - 10 years, navy planners would likely (with a high probability) go for the Type 214 submarine from Germany. |

FieldMarshall06: Nah,,, I am not wrong. To purchase means to order, but ships take years to build & deliver. But for the order, yes it has been ordered which is deduced from the 'finalized' plan. Different people have different sources, but that is my source and I have shown it. A colleague describes the OPV as a frigate. Hence the toggle about 1 or 2 frigates. I have also heard about a pair of frigates, from close pals.
But at least, I did not fabricate the news or use Redditt games like @jln115 insinuated.
Anyway, we pray for more procurements. It takes between 12 to 18 months to build and deliver a Frigate, Corvette or LST to a customer. In China, this time frame might even be shorter. When you order something, you has gone through the stage of an RFQ, given a PO and made an advance payment. So no, you're not correct, Nigeria has not ordered any Frigate. I have duly acknowledged that you provided a source. Yes, it clears all doubt, you did not fabricate your news. ....But you also did not prove Nigeria ordered any Frigates. |

chkil1: i'm not saying he is wrong , just for myself i always wait for official contracts . if you check algerian army acquisition on blogs we have even the sukhoi 57 and nuclear missiles . He has proven that Nigeria has a plan to procure a Frigate. He told us Nigeria has purchased 2 Frigates, he has not proven any of these claims. Yes, on the Frigate he is still wrong, but he has shown us a workable plan exists. |

FieldMarshall06: You are intelligent. If you look well, some items on that list have been ordered. Including the LST and specialized helicopter. Those are open news. The reason why I might not agree with you fully is because plans change. I must admit I completely forgot about this news, however there are many things that still fall short. Why I also agree with you is that the Nigerian navy's head of submarine unit detailed the exact type of submarine Nigeria should go for, and that information is also public knowledge. I will post the source later. I have also seen a recent Thisday source stating that the Nigerian navy is on the verge of receiving a new OPV. We also know that Nigeria evaluated the LHD built by PT PAL. The Navy's AW-139 and 3 x A109 new purchases. However saying the navy has procured a Frigate or in your case 2 frigates from Germany is not true. There is a plan to procure frigates as you have shown us, but none, absolutely none have been ordered. Germany runs one of the most liberal governments in Europe, if you buy any military equipment from them, that information would be made public. |

The Nigerian Navy needs $1.3 billion to acquire new hardware to secure its territorial waters, according to Navy Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, who is seeking the acquisition of at least five new ships.
Addressing a public hearing organised by the House of Representatives Committee on Maritime Safety and Administration, Ibas said the required long term acquisitions include a general-purpose frigate valued at $350 million, a long-endurance Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) valued at $120 million, a medium-endurance OPV estimated at $60 million, a landing platform dock ship worth $350 million and a landing ship-tank valued $90 million.
Other required assets include a submarine worth $300 million, a Seaward Defence Boat (SDB) worth $10 million and a specialised naval security helicopter at an estimated cost of $25 million. |

Fieldmarshall06 is right, maybe not on the timeline per say, but he is definitely right. Look at the procurement of the Nigerian navy. SDB 3 LST New OPV 4 x Helicopters. The plan is coming to fruition. |
