Let me answer in a generalized perspective

User requirements

In the case of foreign customers :

The end user after trials etc deems the Russian system not upto their requirements so they mandate an alternative foreign system.

Sometimes the end user for the sake of ensuring commonality across different platforms in their fleet opts for common systems to cut down costs , training headache , maintenance hassle etc

In the case of OEM themselves
It's simple because it means their own system ain't at par or not available so they opted for foreign one.

As to ur specific question

Russian offers their customers the option of customisation as per their needs. Eg IAF uses Israeli HUD on su30mki due to possible reasons I mentioned above.

Afaik Russians use own hud on their own aircrafts. I could be wrong though.

The general public feeds on information which is fed to them . Nothing ain't that simple . We don't know doesn't mean that it is not happening.

Sanctions mean nothing if a said country is not serious about it .

USA might have beef with Russia but that doesn't mean all European countries have a bone to pick with Russia but nevertheless have to support the sanctions due to geopolitical obligations.
EU is a conglomerate of nations representing common interests but some nations might not deem it to be in their national interest to break all bridges with Russia. They would want some leverage with Russia and so they " help " russia wherever possible within being too overt about it and without explicitly compromising the EU stand.

Eg all modern T series tanks have french supplied thermal imagers . Supplies for maintenance etc r still continuing without raising too many eyebrows. Ironically the same T series tanks will form the bulkwark of the Russian armoured thrust if they decide to invade Europe grin

National interests triumphs all international obligations
Thanks a lot Sir.

Well detailed and comprehensive answer.

Although just a small correction, Russian navy SU-30SM also use the Thales HUD.

Wat huh, u jst call tucano outdated
As Komken continues to pass his usual misinformation, here attached is an aircraft similar in role US allies in the middle-east operate.

This Air Tractor although inferior in capabilities to the A-29 Super Tucano, is used by UAE and Egypt.

Also remember US special forces are going to get 76 units of Super Tucano.

Understand the context sir

Why do you think I stated this specifically The Russians were pioneers of this combo.

"High off bore missiles coupled to hms" - mig29
One more question for you Sir.

Why do Russian made SU-30SM, even export models carry Thales HUD while, the SU-35, SU-57 and other Russian fighters have Russian HUDs?

I thought Russia is under sanctions from the EU?

I noticed Armenian and Belarusian SU-30SM use Thales.

Now, just one rpg hitting that vehicle and they are all gone. Watched a video of Nigerian soldiers attacking bokoharam and most of them were trying to stay behind the armored vehicles deployed, the officer with them was telling them to use natural cover instead because those armored vehicles are easy targets and if they explode?!......
This video suggests they are defending from an ambush.

What I think is, after assaulting the vehicle with insurgents, they came under fire(ambush).

They are responding and repelling the ambush.

This tactics reminds me of the tactics used by American special forces when they were attacked in Tongo Tongo.

No it's a very big advantage during Air combat especially with high off bore missiles. The Russians were pioneers of this combo. The west copied it.

Both SU57 and Mig35 have them

Pic of the hmds for su57 ( under development / trials )
OK, thanks.

on what platform is this built and when did dis take place..
Pls Kabe1 gist me..
This old gist now. It is part of the earlier Maiduguri built APCs.

Although this set was launched on the 1st of April 2020.

Maiduguri built APCs in total - 14

Ezugwu MRAP APC - 38 units ( 113 planned)

Proforce ARA MRAP APC - 50 units estimated.

The Maiduguri built APCs will no longer be produced from what I read.

I am not sure about Su30MKI, could be Sura K/I HMDS same as in MiG-21 bisons. There was a program to replace it , but am unaware of its status.

Mig29 UPG uses Topsight-I and Mig 29K uses TopOwl-F HMDS

Mirage 2K uses TopOwl-F HMDS

LCA uses DASH IV/V HMDS ( Pic )

Etc
Is there some sort of a disadvantage to using HMDS with regards to Russian fighter planes?

I noticed even the SU-57 and MIG-35 have none.

You have not dissuaded me from my original position, which is the total package contract sum is $600 million, I did not use condescending language to get my view across and call you a liar. Its still your prerogative to disagree or agree.
I don't need to dissuade you over anything. It is your prerogative to believe whatever fantasy you want to believe in.

I had earlier presented official records from Nigeria and US department sources.

If you like take it, if you like leave it. Your problem.

Don't mention my moniker on this topic again.

Thanks.

Additional armoured vehicles manufactured by the Nigerian army.

Built by Nigerian army engineers in the theatre of operations in maiduguiri and also deployed by the Nigerian army in operations.

Are there modern Russian HMDS used by fighter pilots?

I'm not referring to the old ones used in the MIG-29, but newer modern ones. Something like BAE systems striker II helmet.

Don't think this thread is meant for only you people who comment and post pictures the most, alot of exposed minds who know better about these things come here as guests and even registered members of this forum to read and just go away because they don't have time. How did I even know about this thread? I've been at the airforce base ikeja throughout this lockdown and was close to a flight lieutenant checking out nairaland on his laptop and it was this thread. The young man was just shaking his head, smiling and grunting as he glanced from pages to pages. Obviously someone was posting a wrong info and misinforming the general public.
What is wrong with some of you, for real, you make comments like you don't think. undecided undecided

Information posted here is open-source, by that it means that the source of the pictures are the army, air force, navy , police and newspapers, and are available to everyone online.

I just hope we bought these vehicles in reasonable numbers.

It would be nice to have at the minimum 50 VT4 Tanks, 80 units of ST-1, 77 105mm artillery.
