You are missing the point. Those birds you posted are used primarily used as Transport helicopters.

The Nigerian Air Force uses the A-109K as a Close Air Support platform as it's primary role. hence the service designates the A-109K as an attack helicopter.

The Air Force also has A109e platforms that are used for light transport and MEDVAC roles, hence their designation.

Belgium also uses and identifies the A-109K as an attack helicopter.

Why is the Type-056 in Nigeria an OPV and not a Corvette like in China?

A service defines a platform by the role it plays in that service.

Depends on configuration but APC(mostly) .........however if armed with a 30mm cannon as in the pic it could also fulfil the role of an IFV in less conventional operations.

But not ulike the A109 its not a dedicated IFV since it lacks the ballistic protection to fill that role.

Even in the DRC before the Rooivalk was deployed, SAAF used Oryx with door guns for CAS operation...... That doesn't all of a sudden make it an attack helicopter.

Even our Super Lynx helicopters which are deployed with our frigates have been specifically integrated with the Mokopa missile as well as torpedoes and depth charges... However it still doesn't make it an AH

AW-109K's in the Nigerian air force are used primarily as CAS platforms, hence the designation as an attack helicopter.

The A-109e is used as a utility, MEDVAC in the Nigerian Air Force hence it's designation as a utility helicopter.

Military equipments across the world have different designations according to the roles they are used.

Japan's IZUMO class aircraft carries are called helicopter carries, despite the fact they can deploy F-35s.

The Nigerian army refers to MRAPs with heavy machine guns as armoured fighting vehicles because they are not used as troop transports, instead fire support vehicles.

The 45 meters vessel the Nigerian navy is currently building is referred to as a seaward defence boat, other countries refer to it as an IPV or MPV.

In Algeria, their 60 meters locally built vessels armed with anti-ship missiles, CIWS and 76mm gun is referred to as a Corvette, but in other countries they are missile boats. In Nigeria we would refer to a 60 meters vessel as a seaward defence boat.

Designations for military equipments are not cast in stone, equipment designations change depending on the country using them.

The Nigerian Army said its locally manufactured mine-resistant ambush protected (MRAP) vehicles are performing wonders in the on-going counter-insurgency war in the North-East.

The vehicles, nicknamed Ezugwu, after the manufacturer, Major General Victor Ezugwu, and deployed to the North-East were said to have dealt a heavy blow on Boko Haram terrorists who tried to attack some military locations in Borno State, with heavy casualty.

Scores of the terrorists were killed and several arms and ammunition, equipment, food items, drugs and improvised explosive devices (IED) recovered by the soldiers. The army said the indigenous pro-force MRAP employed during the encounter proved to be a reliable fighting machine, as it provided the required mobility, protection and firepower for the troops.

It noted that the lethal war machine has proved beyond reasonable doubt that Nigeria was successful at local defence equipment manufacturing.

This is Manda Naval base where Camp Simba and Camp Kiboko are located,

That area they are patrolling, you see that grey stuff on the pic you posted? that's the ballast , found in and around the American camp (you can see it up-close on the last pic)

The Naval base itself is very expansive, Its about 4km lond and 3km wide so thats 12km.sq right there, and it goes all the way to the beach, As you can see about 70% of the naval base is under-developed... That whole area needs patrolling and that job fell solely on the Kenyans, I suspect that's gonna change now and we will start to see more joint base protection, or atleast the Americans will want to be assigned some shifts on the base security.
