Lurker4Long:RIP. |
Faithti:This is a fast intervention vehicle built also for special forces in mind, so additional gun port infront allows the commander ability to use his weapon. That's bulletproof. MRAPS cannot withstand shots from an RPG, not even the ones built in America. |
Egyptian Navy Frigate, LHD and Corvette

UAE Gowind Corvette currently been built in France. I think France has some of the best looking military equipment. From the Rafale to the Fremm and Gowind ships, they look so aesthetically pleasing to the eyes.

RiceProducers:Thanks bro, this makes sense, especially the part in bold. |
I have a question, I hope anyone who's knowledgeable on this subject can provide me with an answer. I understand the need for Patrol boats, but I don't really get the concept of an Offshore Patrol Vessel, popularly referred to as an OPV. What is an OPV, why are countries more and more investing in OPVs? I know that OPVs are Corvette sized ships in most cases and in other cases they are Frigate sized ship like NNS Thunder. Corvettes and Frigates conduct patrols, so why do I need an OPV to do the same thing a Corvette and a Frigate already does? OPVs are known to be armed with 76mm guns at most, but the OPVs Nigeria has ordered would have Surface to Air Missile Capabilities, they are many OPVs that are armed with Surface to Surface missile and Surface to Air Missiles. What's really the point of buying an OPV and also owning a Corvette and a Frigate? It really doesn't make sense to me. The floor is open for all to have this discussion. |
The Nigerian Air Force plans to upgrade 3 of its older Mi-35 helicopters to the new Mi-35P being offered by Rosoboronexport. The Mi-35P upgrade features the enhanced targeting and flight/navigation suite inherited from the Mi-35M (including the OPS-24N-1L, PrVK24-2 weapons control computer and KNEI-24E-1 navigation/display system), together with its new weapons while retaining the airframe, rotor system and powerplant of the legacy Mi-24/35 family unchanged. life extension is on offer together with the upgrade to render the Hind good for use for 4,000 flight hours

Lurker4Long:I don't think an MRAP should be that expensive. $550k for an MRAP is clearly a rip off. However I'll like to point out a couple of things you might have missed out. The cost of building the Infrastructure in Kazakhstan, training personnel, payment for moving skilled South-African to the country, which alot of people might not be willing to take is included in that unit cost, especially when compared to Singapore. These things would impact unit costs unfortunately. I agree that alot of kickback and corruption is also at play, but we are not comparing apples and apples here. More like apples and pasta. Also do you really believe kickbacks are not rampant in the Defence industry, that's simply not true. Although we all laughed at France for losing the Australia submarine contract, I don believe that France lost that deal purely on technicalities and American security guarantees alone. I believe Australia has fought alongside the US from World War I till present. They were in no shape or form going to lose American protection due to French diesel submarines, especially when the French offered Nuclear Subs at the start of the programme. Also look at the method with which one of the Nordic countries, I think Denmark or Norway chose the F-35. I'm not excusing Paramount but the cost for new players or old players to enter new markets can be very high. |
Why is domestic building of Military equipment critical to security and economic prosperity for any Country? Take for instance NNS Oji, during the building of Seaward Defence Boat 3, the Naval Dockyard Limited, a company owned by the Nigerian Navy's Investment Holding limited, employed 200 people, including local vendors to build and deliver the vessel with no loss time injury from the period of 2019 to December 2021. This means that for a period of 3 years, 100 Nigerian families, sometimes extended families and friends benefited from the building of SDB 3. On average that's 400 people. This means that both SDB 4 and 5 have the capacity to Carter for 1,000 individuals during the duration of the project. Quite impressive.

On the other hand Nautic Africa does alot of business in Nigeria and I know they have a maintenance facility in Onne, South-South Nigeria. |
Lurker4Long:I will check for the information and paste it here. Unfortunately the Nigerian Air Force only received a very, very small quantity for the Panthers team. Those vehicles which were previously based at the Air Force Base in Maiduguri have now been been moved to Air Training Command in Niger state, close to Abuja where the Super Tucanos are currently based. Because of the little number I think NAF Marauders would be more expensive than the Singapore variants. |
Odunayaw:Those ships are at least 60 years old, the Nigerian Navy has it's maintenance game on lockdown. I'm really impressed. If you also look at the quality of ships that participated in this exercise, there's no doubt the Nigerian Navy is on the right path. I just hope we invest in proper Frigates and Corvettes going forward. 2 x Frigates and 2 x Corvettes. |
GeneralFarouq:The Hamilton class ships are the largest ships the Nigerian Navy has in service, only NNS Aradu which is not in active service is larger. |
