koruji: @smanuel You beat me to it. Didn't see the RENT sign, but the women's bag he is holding and the sign on the door that says do not touch suggest he was merely posing with the car. The RENT sign put the cake on top. And to think how he's being yabbing people with that picture here on NL for days now.
It is good to dream, but don't claim it until it is fulfilled.
Koruji shakes head in disgust Dont steal my pic, telling your little rif raf girls that its you , you have ways to go before you get on this grown man level, when you arrange yourself then you can give me a holla. Haters like you keep me motivated.

TEXASGIRL: I just returned from 2 weeks in Owerri & PH and nothing happened to me. I walk along the streets (ok not on PH) and travel at night. I am blonde and white as can be and I have never had any trouble there except with the police wanting my money. However, I have no illusions and I know that it is not so safe there for me & I will definitely not take my kids there at this time. Something to consider is that we also have travel advisory for much of the world right now even Europe. The government here is just highly cautious and thorough. To those who are saying the US is so unsafe, come on know, are you high? Of course crime happens here and sometimes shocking things happen, but I don't ever lock my doors at night or rarely my car. My kids are safe to walk the road at night. I know that if I call 911 the police will be here in a matter of minutes, and they will actually help me. Can you say that?

Princek12: You can run your mouth all day; America is still substantially safer than Nigeria. In America, you can drive with confidence at anytime of the day or night. You can even drive, for example, from Atlanta to New York all night without fear that armed robbers will attack you. And even in the rare incident that you become a victim of armed robbery, you can best be assured that it will be thoroughly investigated, and hopefully the culprits will be brought to face the wrath of the law.
Granted, as there is no society completely free of violence, yes there are still robberies and home invasions in America, but no way near the blatant kidnappings and korokoro armed robbery being perpetrated by those hooligans in Nigeria with impunity. Sadly, the Nigerian police, although understandably underfunded and ill equipped to investigate crime, does practically nothing to abate these melancholy. GBAMMMMMMMM

Oh no,where when you point out to people the right way to do things and they think you are snobbish, pls, I am comfortable here,as my own boss, I can vacation in Naija when I want. Those few going back cannot survive in the US,they will roast like hens when they hit Lagos .Losers. Americans see green not color, many Africans live well here, even better than the native blacks, those who use their naija sense will not get caught up in the debt cycle.Nigeria cannot change from the ground up, it has to start from the leaders downward. They will all get swallowed up by the corrupt system.Good luck. Dont hate because you can succeed in the land of opportunity, your mates are doing it,you are just sorry excuses.
interesting! is this the reason why they say it will be hard for you to find a job if your name sounds AAish? names like Tamisha, Latisha etc
i have heard that it is harder for a black person to find an upper level job (excluding health related jobs). heard also that it is easy for an high school white to find a job than AA college graduate, not sure if this is true.
i think the answer depends on which side of the fence you happen to find yourself on if you live in america - by "fence" i mean racial divide. if you are white educated and affluent - you are very likely to think america is a blessed country, however if you are black and conscious ie understand the history of black struggle against oppression in america then you may probably think otherwise.
America is a nation which was established by slave owners, merchants and pirates, the main objective of these so called founding fathers was to break away from british control so that they could control their own political and economic destiny and to ensure that they, the elite or founding fathers would continue to maximise their wealth at the expense of the majority. This is where race came into the equation - the founding fathers (white elite) in their determination to consolidate their positions of power in american society knew that the only way to stay at the top and stay rich was by dividing the people - this why they introduced the racial pyramid of power, those at the top are usually (but not always) white and those at the bottom are usually black or any other non white minority. In creating a racial pyramid of power the white elite's position in american society would never be threatened because ordinary whites would look at blacks and feel that they were superior because they had not been condemned to a lower social hierarchy in society, this in turn would weaken or even prevent any chance of both races ever uniting to overthrow a tyranical white elite power structure.
Again to go back to the question - if you are white in america -the sky is the limit, as long as you show a willingness to work. You don't necessarily have to be educated as your boss at work is likely to encourage you to further your education or recommend you for promotion, if you are black, it is a different story, despite showing a desire or even an ability to learn and work hard you will face discouragment and obstacles at every turn, why? because the american system was not established for the benefit of blacks, remember their so called constitution did not regard anyone of african ancestry as an american citizen but as property or chattel . This is why african americans have spent the better part of 200 years fighting for equality in a country that does not recognise them as full fledged citizens.
America is therefore the land of opportunity as long as you are white, every one else can just get to the back of the queue and if there are any scraps left over a non white (black) person may just get a look in.
Let me just qualify the above by saying that there is one exception and this is in the field of entertainment and sports where blacks dominate but only because blacks bring in so much money that they are regarded as cash cows by their white owners who realise that applying racial discrimination in such fields will lead to massive financial losses for themselves and their shareholders, hence the exception.
This post is so ridiculously funny,I don't even know hwere to start tearing down your straw house of conspiracy theories, How come Africans/Asians/ do so well in the US compared to American blacks and whites? |
Politics › Re: Why Is America So Blessed? by kabukabu50(m): 12:40am On Oct 15, 2010 |
MandingoII: There are 4 distinct groups of blacks in america. African children will find themselves in these groups in the future. Keep in Mind, America will ALWAYS conspire against you,
(1) the mainstream middle-class and majority with a full ownership stake in American society, (2) a large, abandoned minority with less hope of escaping poverty and dysfunction than at any time since Reconstruction's crushing end, (3) a small transcendent elite with such enormous wealth, power, and influence (think Oprah, the Obamas, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith), and
(4) two newly emergent groups-individuals of mixed-race heritage and communities of recent black immigrants from the Caribbean and Africa, which force us to question what being "black" in America is supposed to mean? 1) if you work hard enough you can make it into the middle class in the US. 2)That minority of poor in the US are almost never African, they are poor whites stuck in countryside villages with little education and poor black in inner city ghettos with little education/family problems with drugs/violence. 3)Jada pinkett smith was once a poor club dancer, oprah used to be a street journalist, and barack obama used to live in a tiny apartment in chicago with thw roommates, get you so called "facts" right, pal.

tensor777: Good point. Its a bit surprising that a lot of first generation Nigerian immigrants do not realise that America was built by capitalism and the free-market economy. It is even the tremendous wealth generated by such a system that has enabled them to have a functioning social security system. However there are opportunities for those with marketable skills to make it big even if it is in the sports and entertainment industry. Listen birdbrain,a lot of first generation nigerians have figured out how the "capitalism" and "free market economy" practised in the US,can work for them, which is why they build businesses in the US rather than in Nigeria. |
Politics › Re: Why Is America So Blessed? by kabukabu50(m): 12:25am On Oct 15, 2010 |
cap28: The white elite in america ie the rockefellers(standard oil) mellons, jp morgans, fords, du ponts, warburgs we are talking the billionaires, not millionaires but billionaires ie the people who constitute 1% of the population but own approximately 60% of all corporate stock and business assets and close to 90% of all tax free bonds (net assets) ie the plutocrats are the real owners of america much of their wealth is inherited, their ancestors were merchants, slave owners and even armed robbers - THEY are the ones who beleive (quite rightly) that america is blessed because they are living the kind of life that many of us can only dream about.
These people have been running america since the 1700's and that is the way it will remain until the ordinary americans wake up and realise that they are nothing more than wage slaves working to keep the abovementioned people in the lifestyle that they have become accustomed to.
Many nigerians do not understand that america is a staunch capitalist system whose foundation is based on the generation of profit at any cost, there are checks and balances that have been built in to the american capitalist system that PREVENT certain people from ever climbing up the socio economic ladder.
Consider this conundrum - in order for the wealthy in america to continue to remain rich they NEED to ensure that there are people within society that REMAIN POOR.
The poor in american society serve as a never ending pool of cheap easily available labour, there is a limit to how far you can go in america and indeed the west in terms of wealth creation - the system has been rigged to prevent certain people from ever moving above the class they were born into.
There is nothing you can do to change that - sit back and enjoy the life of a western wage slave beholden to the 1% who own the bulk of america's wealth. And your point is what ?is it any different in the UK ??

TEXASGIRL: There are many reasons why America is blessed. One of the things that pops to mind is that Americans LOVE our country. Most will never consider leaving it for another country.
We are also not content to set back and let our leaders take us down the black alley. When there is something going wrong here, we stand up and scream about it. Because our politicians are more heavily watched they are not as corrupt. The strongest leader can be gone in the blink of an eye if they are found to be corrupt (think Tom DeLay). Many if not most truly love our Country & look out for the peoples best interest. Those that don't are quickly replaced.
Taxes are another reason. We all HATE taxes, but they are a necessary evil. They allow the infrastructure we love so much, the free education, the quality healthcare.
My country was founded by men who sought God in all things. The wisdom given to them has led us well. The basic principles we were founded upon & our Constitution has served us very well. Because we stick to these rules and ideals we remain strong. We are truly a country that is for the people by the people.
Something that has to be considered when you feel compelled to compare Naija with US is that you are really only 11 years out of Military rule. When America was only 11 they were no where near as strong as they are today. Nigeria is my second home and I love her (almost as much as my own country). Everyday I pray for the country. That corruption will end, the people will stand up and make the leaders do right, that the values and traditions (some of them, lol) will continue to lead your people in the right direction. I think that in 200 years your country will be just as blessed because you are a passionate intelligent people.
To those hating on my country, if you travel you will know that what you say is silly. There is opportunity for everyone here. If you choose not to use it that is your own problem. Poverty is no excuse because our education is free and easily obtainable. I agree completely, but I hate the Dallas Cowboys with a passion and the Texas Longhorns, Go Falcons |

MzDarkSkin: America is blessed just as EVERY country in the world is. The reason for it's advertised success is from the sweat blood and tears of its people who come from all walks of life. Every nation, race, creed and sex contributes to the world in different ways which is why America being a melting pot has such success. This is evident in every continent where there is a country that has multiculturalism and "forced" tolerance. In Africa just like my beloved caribbean, we lack this due to the tribalistic and blatant disregard of human rights mentalities (Africa is much more evident of this). South eastern Asian nations, latin America, East Europe are no exceptions when it comes to their flaws affecting their success.
Western Europeans and their descendants here in America and Cananda have mastered the importance of synergy and the need to "look out for our own first" but in a smart way, sure there were Angle, Saxon, Celtic; etc. tensions and tribalistic killings but you found that their common trait was looking out for eachother when foreigners come to play. This set the foundation for other races whom they've manipulated to learn to survive in their society and live in that lifestyle which is why you see African Americans, Latinos, and asians thriving in these territories because in their ancestrial land they would have troubles with dictatorship and basic human rights violations -ofcourse America's formation was a bleak and bloody one nonetheless there have been drastic changes in less than 40 years (it could still use more but you get my point). Once the rest of the world realises this formula, America will lose it's grip and it's already begun.
But ofcourse what you see on television is not always true, believe you me, America is still not what it is cranked up to be! It may not be all its cranked up to be, but I'll rather take an average per capita income of $40,000 over the $1400 that you cameroonians make per year.I have two cars, have land in naija and ready to buy a house all before age 30, most of my mates are jobless or hustlin in naija |

coldhearts: ok the post has digressed and getting a bit more weird . Americans work hard , which america are you in , oh maybe the person meant that the immigrants in america work hard to survive (i.e European immigrants, african and chinese immigrants) . Yes Nigeria has strike but America has schools so why are they performing so terribly besides some Americans don't attend college nor are they interested in learning anything (this is not to say that college is the only path to success). There's no motivation for sucess unfortunately and when social security and those benefits get unplugged then they'd be in real trouble. Also why is it that when they finally force themselves to attend college at an older age, they have many excuses for skipping classes or dragging their pants half down while coming to class or continuously arguing with the professor even when proven wrong. Anyway sha. If Nigerians had that opportunity, you won't see people skipping classes lol because Nigerians are never lazy (hardworking).
You cant dispute the facts. Nigeria average per capita income;$1,700 USA average per capita income;$40,000
Facts dont lie. |
