PoliticsRe: Try Amaechi For Treason, Fani-kayode Tells FG by Kagarko(m): 6:00pm On Nov 21, 2014
okiezman:
Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode , has urged the federal government to query Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State for his recent media remarks where he allegedly said the opposition would form a parallel government if President Goodluck Jonathan won the 2015 presidential election, saying that such statement amounts to treason.

Fani-Kayode who made the call Friday in a press conference in Umuahia , Abia State, after his two-day visit to the state also expressed disappointment over the commotion at the National Assembly complex on Thursday, accusing the lawmakers of breaking the law and disgracing the country.

“For the first time in the history of our country I saw elected legislators attempting to break down wall, attempting to break down gates. I saw them scaling the gate. I saw some of them in torn clothes, struggling through the police lines, I saw them breaking the law, and I saw them display the highest level of indiscipline and lack of respect for constituted authority.

The former Aviation boss said “some public figures may shy away from speaking the truth but I will not, no matter whoever is involved .”

“Legislators took the law into their own hands. Broke down gates, jumped through the gates, fought the police and created commotion and shameful acts.

“If this were to be in any other country particularly America or Uk that for whatever reasons a line was drawn by the police and security agencies, and individuals no matter how high or how much respected or loved chose to defy them and cross the lines, injured some policemen ( because the IG told me on phone this morning that some police men were injured), and they defied the police , went through the tear gas, and ignored the warnings , the police would have been forced to use a very high degree of force.

He commended security agencies for their maturity in handling the situation, and noted it was a testimony to the fact that the Nigerian police were very restrained to have allowed the lawmakers to cross the lines.

Kayodey argued that if the lawmakers were not satisfied with their being locked out of the national assembly complex by security agencies, they would have rather gone to seek redress in the court than take the laws into their hands.

“Again when you look at the comments made by my old friend, Gov. Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State, I am alarmed, I am deeply disturbed and discouraged. He said that if PDP comes back in 2015 that not only would they make the country ungovernable, they would also set up a parallel government, and that there would be anarchy in this country,” ha said.

PoliticsRe: I'm Wining Terror War: Jonathan! by Kagarko(m): 5:43pm On Nov 21, 2014
wazoboy:
President Goodluck Jonathan says
contrary to media reports, his
administration is winning the war
against the outlawed Boko Haram
terrorist group.
Speaking on Friday in London at the
opening of the meeting of Nigeria's
Honorary International Investment
Council (HIIC), Jonathan said the
Armed Forces and security agencies
were making steady gains in
recovering areas recently taken by
Boko Haram insurgents.
According to him, the Federal
Government and the security agencies
are working very hard to ensure that
the Boko Haram's ability to capture
and hold any Nigerian territory is
ended very soon.
"We're improving on security. For
about a week now, there have been
no reports of Boko Haram seizing
more territory. Rather, we're steadily
pushing them back. The impression
being created by sections of the media
that the situation is worsening is not
true. I can assure you that it will never
get worse", he said.
The president also solicited greater
support from the National Assembly
for his government's efforts toward
curbing terrorism and insecurity in
Nigeria.
He told the gathering that to be
successful, leaders must take
decisions based on adequate
information and sound advice, saying
"having had the personal benefit of
interacting with you all as vice
president and president since 2007
has helped me a lot".
Jonathan said he had offered himself
as a candidate in Nigeria's next
presidential elections because he was
convinced that with four more years
in office, he would be able to further
consolidate the positive national
reforms initiated by his administration
and take them to an irreversible point
for the good of all Nigerians.
"As you already know, I've indicated
my willingness to carry on for another
four years if I'm given the opportunity
so that we can carry forward some of
the reforms we've been talking
about", the president said.
He said his government hoped to
further expand transportation
infrastructure and improve local
content in Nigeria's oil industry as well
as ensure more inclusive economic
growth, job creation and national
security which are on the agenda of
the meeting.
"We cannot move the economy
forward without good infrastructure.
We've been working very hard in that
area. We've improved our road
network significantly. In the next three
to four years, we should be able to
resurface almost all federal roads in
the country and begin new ones.
We're improving our airport terminals
and aviation security. Reforms are also
ongoing at our ports to drastically
reduce the time required for import
clearance formalities.
"In the rail sector, we may require
private sector funds to quicken the
pace of development. Our goal is to
link all state capitals by rail. It may not
be an objective that can be achieved
by a single administration, but we
want to lay a solid foundation that
others can build on. We're also
promoting the increase of local
content in our oil industry, because
that is the only way in which our
people will benefit more from the
industry and begin to see themselves
as true stakeholders who need to
protect and help in the development
of our oil and gas resources,"
President said.

PoliticsRe: Amaechi's "Parallel Government" Statement Is Treasonable, Says Doyin Okupe by Kagarko(m): 2:53pm On Nov 21, 2014
Omooba77:
Presidency Thursday declared the utterances of the Rivers state governor, Chibuike Amaechi, that should the All Progressive Congress (APC) lose the 2015 general election, the party would resort to civil disobedience as incitement, treason and gross rascality.Addressing news men on the outcome on the APC Salvation Rally, the Senior Special Assistant to President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, said, "Mr. Amaechi who became Governor of Rivers State in 2007 consequent upon a court judgment, said at a street rally organized by the All Progressive Congress that if the 2015 elections are ‘rigged’, his party will not seek redress in court but would rather carry out what he called ‘civil disobedience’ as well as form a parallel government”.

According to the President's aide, "This statement is clearly a further evidence of Governor Amaechi’s penchant for lawlessness and anarchy in his unbridled pursuit for power. It is curious and unthinkable that a man who was himself a beneficiary of the court process would disdain the very platform through which he acquired the opportunity to make his reckless and provocative statement.

"It is even more worrisome when one considers the fact that Governor Amaechi’s party, which is relatively new, came on board promising hope to Nigerians. With statements like this it is clear that Amaechi is more of a liability to his party than an asset and has the potential to bring his party to further opprobrium and disrepute. For someone who aspires to become the Vice President of this country, his disdain for law and order is not only unfortunate but also patently dangerous and sends dark signals about the survival of our democracy.”

The Nigeria Police have released a statement explaining why they sent police officers to the National Assembly this morning, preventing Tambuwal and other lawmakers from gaining access into the Assembly ground. Find the statement below...
Following an intelligence report of a likely invasion of the House of Representatives by hoodlums and thugs, the Nigeria Police Force promptly deployed its personnel to the premises to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
Consequently, the Police condoned the area and began screening of all members and visitors alike.

In the course of this lawful exercise, Alh. Aminu Tambuwal CFR, arrived the venue with a motley crowd, who broke the cordon, assaulted the Police and evaded due process and the Police had the duty to restore order and normalcy, using lawful means

The IGP seizes this medium to warn all political actors and their followers to respect constituted authority and due process and to desist from the use of thugs to pursue their agenda.

This is the reason why the Ruling Party will never loss any election in Nigeria. He who pays the pipers dictates the tune!

The National Assembly and the senate must amend the Nigeria constitution, the power to appoint INEC Boss must be vested in the House of Rep and the senate chamber working closely with the Judiciary arm of Government.

The Federal Government( Presidency) also must be stopped from funding INEC.

PoliticsRe: Jonathan's Government Corrupt And Incompetent: Newyork Times - Opinion by Kagarko(m): 3:12pm On Nov 19, 2014
torkaka:
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/17/opinion/the-nigerian-status-quo.html?_r=0

LAGOS, Nigeria — The current Nigerian government is widely seen as the most corrupt since independence from Britain in 1960. Ordinarily, this would be a huge problem for President Goodluck Jonathan and his People’s Democratic Party, which has been continuously in power since the end of military rule in 1999. But things are unlikely to change. To many Nigerians, it sometimes seems as if we merely swapped military dictatorship for a one-party state.

Mr. Jonathan’s name will be on the ballot this February, when Nigerians, many of them fed up with government corruption and incompetence, go to the polls. Yet events percolating across the country that could come to a boil within the next three months might actually work to the president’s advantage. Two grave problems — the Boko Haram insurgency and tensions in the oil-rich Niger Delta — hang over the land. A third, West Africa’s Ebola crisis, seems to have been contained so far, and though this has little to do with Mr. Jonathan’s leadership, the people responsible for it are unlikely to gain any political capital at his expense.

The incompetence of Mr. Jonathan’s government is most clearly seen in its inability to rescue the 276 schoolgirls, most of them believed to be Christians, who were kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents in the largely Islamic north last April. Even at the time, the president, himself a Christian from the largely Christian south, didn’t seem much concerned about their fate. It took him almost three weeks to officially acknowledge what had happened, whereupon he belatedly invited their relatives to lunch at the presidential villa in Abuja, an event which one journalist likened to “a wedding reception,” complete with bunting and a band.

What Mr. Jonathan didn’t count upon was the international furor over the kidnappings or the powerful worldwide publicity, negative in his case, of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign. Seven months later, most of the girls are still missing (though dozens have managed to escape). A report by Human Rights Watch catalogued the “physical and psychological abuse they were subjected to: forced labor, forced participation in military operations, including carrying ammunition or luring men into ambush; forced marriage to their captors; and sexual abuse, including rape.”

Meanwhile, sporadic violence continues. Last week, a suicide bomber killed at least 48 students at a boys’ high school in the northeast. Rescuing the girls — or putting an end to the insurgency altogether — would certainly help Mr. Jonathan’s ambitions, but his government’s ability to do so seems most unlikely. Corruption and low morale have hobbled the military. Even so, the government announced last month that the extremists had agreed to a cease-fire, though Boko Haram has denied it.

Although the extremists have been widely condemned by leading Muslim clerics and politicians, the insurgency contributes to Christian suspicions of their Muslim compatriots, and this may well play into Mr. Jonathan’s hands come election time.

But in an effort to bridge sectarian divisions and garner votes across the religious divide, the country’s leading opposition parties, one from the largely Muslim northeast, the other from the mostly Christian southwest, have joined forces with other groups to form the All Progressives Congress. In theory, this gives the opposition a fighting chance of wresting control of the Senate and House of Representatives from the People’s Democratic Party.

Unfortunately, efforts to make common cause in Nigeria are invariably sacrificed upon the altars of religion and ethnicity. The alliance’s likely presidential candidate is a Muslim northerner, Muhammadu Buhari. He also happens to be a former dictator, who ruled Nigeria for 20 months in the mid-1980s. His administration came to an abrupt end in August 1985, when members of his cabinet, alienated by his efforts to root out corruption, forced him out. Though widely unpopular, many Nigerians feel he has the credentials to tackle corruption. Moreover, one potential running mate is Babatunde Raji Fashola, the two-term governor of Lagos State who has distinguished himself by successfully tackling the incipient Ebola crisis with the same energy and efficiency that he brought to modernizing the infrastructure of Lagos, the biggest port in West Africa. But there are also doubts about his commitment to clean government, fueled by the fact that he is a protègé of Ahmed Bola Tinubu, a former governor of the same state and a founding member of the All Progressives Congress whose reputation has been tarnished by corruption scandals, even though he has never been convicted of corruption.

Though Mr. Fashola is a Muslim with a Catholic wife, few Christians (or for that matter even the generally more-liberally minded Muslims of the south) would be inclined to vote for a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Religious differences are a key factor in voting, but perhaps patronage plays a greater role, a lesson Mr. Jonathan learned in the Niger Delta, where he taught school and gained political prominence. Like any savvy politician, he knows that patronage is a two-way street, and he has been careful to keep the money flowing in a region plagued by resentment over oil rights, piracy and periodic unrest.

Oil is Nigeria’s greatest source of wealth, providing about 90 percent of the nation’s foreign exchange earnings, but many people among the delta’s diverse ethnic groups feel that the central government has seized control of their oil without adequate compensation. The government says it loses about $3 billion a year due to piracy, widely seen as aided and abetted by the military. Local gangs also take what they can by tapping pipelines. In the past, anger over corruption and the unfair redistribution of wealth has fueled a dangerous political militancy. Everyone knows that if the militants want to, they can easily stop oil production, which would bankrupt the country.

Thus Mr. Jonathan takes care to ensure that the region is well looked after, and this contributes to his enormous popularity there. Indeed, he is widely seen as crucial to keeping the lid on potential unrest. In the words of Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, a former leader of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force who is now a key supporter, if Mr. Jonathan is not re-elected next year, there will be “blood in the streets.”
The whole world knows that GEJ's govt is this corrupt.

Foreign AffairsRe: Libya: Ten Things About Gaddafi They Don’t Want You To Know by Kagarko(m): 8:09pm On Nov 16, 2014
ono:
Ruling the country for for 41 years until his demise in October 2011, Muammar Gaddafi did some truly amazing things for his country and repeatedly tried to unite and empower the whole of Africa.

So despite what you’ve heard on the radio, seen in the media or on the TV Gaddafi did some powerful things that were not very reminiscent of a vicious dictator.

Here are ten things Gaddafi did for Libya that you may not know about…

1. In Libya a home is considered a natural human right

In Gaddafi’s Green Book it states: ”The house is a basic need of both the individual and the family, therefore it should not be owned by others”. Gaddafi’s Green Book is the formal leader’s political philosophy, it was first published in 1975 and was intended reading for all Libyans even being included in the national curriculum.

2. Education and medical treatment were all free

Under Gaddafi, Libya could boast one of the best healthcare services in the Middle East and Africa. Also if a Libyan citizen could not access the desired educational course or correct medical treatment in Libya they were funded to go abroad.

3. Gaddafi carried out the world’s largest irrigation project

The largest irrigation system in the world also known as the great manmade river was designed to make water readily available to all Libyan’s across the entire country. It was funded by the Gaddafi government and it said that Gaddafi himself called it ”the eighth wonder of the world”.

4. It was free to start a farming business

If any Libyan wanted to start a farm they were given a house, farm land and live stock and seeds all free of charge.

5. A bursary was given to mothers with newborn babies

When a Libyan woman gave birth she was given 5000 (US dollars) for herself and the child.

6. Electricity was free

Electricity was free in Libya meaning absolutely no electric bills!

7. Cheap petrol

During Gaddafi’s reign the price of petrol in Libya was as low as 0.14 (US dollars) per litre.

8. Gaddafi raised the level of education

Before Gaddafi only 25% of Libyans were literate. This figure was brought up to 87% with 25% earning university degrees.

9. Libya had It’s own state bank

Libya had its own State bank, which provided loans to citizens at zero percent interest by law and they had no external debt.

10. The gold dinar

Before the fall of Tripoli and his untimely demise, Gaddafi was trying to introduce a single African currency linked to gold. Following in the foot steps of the late great pioneer Marcus Garvey who first coined the term ”United States of Africa”. Gaddafi wanted to introduce and only trade in the African gold Dinar – a move which would have thrown the world economy into chaos.

The Dinar was widely opposed by the ‘elite’ of today’s society and who could blame them. African nations would have finally had the power to bring itself out of debt and poverty and only trade in this precious commodity. They would have been able to finally say ‘no’ to external exploitation and charge whatever they felt suitable for precious resources. It has been said that the gold Dinar was the real reason for the NATO led rebellion, in a bid to oust the outspoken leader.

You are indeed great you lived a life worthy of been emulated.
Now that you have gone to the great beyond your people are suffering seriously.

This western invasion is what you were afraid for your people. Unfortunately that time they never knew the implication of doing what they did.

May Allah forgive your shortcomings as you are but human. may your good work shine your grave.

As for your people may God forgive them they don't know what they did.

PoliticsRe: Race To 2015: Buhari Holds Close Door Meeting With Azikiwe's Son by Kagarko(m): 7:14pm On Nov 16, 2014
berem:
As the race to the 2015 elections heats up, a
Presidential aspirant of the All Progressives
Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd)
yesterday held a closed door meeting with Chief
Chukwuma Azikiwe, the eldest son of the
nation’s foremost nationalist and former
President, late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe.
The meeting which lasted over 30 minutes took
place at the residence of the Azikiwes in
Onitsha, the commercial hub of Anambra State.
According to reports, the meeting was in
connection with Buhari’s 2015 presidential
ambition.
However, before Buhari went in for the meeting,
he said his visit was a ‘routine practice’ which he
does whenever he is in the East, adding that his
visit to Onitsha was to attend the final burial
ceremony of late Chief Chike Ofordile who was
the Minister of Justice during his 20-month reign
as Head of State.
He also spoke on his presidential ambition,
saying he wasn’t “in the race to enrich himself,
but to sincerely serve the nation by adequately
addressing security challenges and dwindling
economic fortunes.”
“I feel I have greater role to play and luckily for
me I cannot be accused of being ambitious for
material aspect of it. I was a governor, I was a
Minister of Petroleum, I was Head of State, but I
will like to give Nigerians the opportunity this
time around to use ballot box to choose their
leadership and I hope the system allows the
people to choose whoever they want to lead
them and to represent them.
“There are two areas that are obvious to all
Nigerians – the collapse of security and the
collapse of the economy. Nigeria has to be
secured and efficiently managed. I have said that
so many times,” Buhari said.
He also welcomed Speaker of the House of
Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, to the
presidential race. He, however, added that the
process of picking the party’s candidate must
“be transparent, let it be honest that is all we
want,” he stated.
Buhari also said “the social injustice and
corruption of the administration of President
Goodluck Jonathan” should not be allowed to
continue, adding that Nigeria would not survive
if Jonathan and the People’s Democratic Party,
PDP, are voted in again in 2015.
Among those on Buhari’s entourage were
former Governor of Anambra State, Senator
Chris Ngige; former president of the Nigerian Bar
Association and governorship candidate of the
defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN), in
Ondo State, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu; leaders of
APC in Anambra State amongst others.
