No vex if my tone sounds harsh. That's not how I mean it. grin

You wouldn't even get a decent backend developer job in some companies even in Nigeria these days if you're not conversant with microservices.

I want to disagree with this statement.

Apart from using Docker and doing the usual git branching, Git merging, approving Pull requests which isn't Microservices, I think very few, I mean very few companies in naija uses this microservices thing.

If I am wrong abeg correct me.

Lol relax bro. i was just thinking out loud when i asked the question and i was expecting to share thoughts. plus docker, kubernetes and the likes are not gibberish.
These are tools that were created to solve a particular problem and they've been excellent at it. Solutions exists because there are problems.
You don't know me you don't know where i work. You don't even know if my company's project is built on microservices. You wouldn't even get a decent backend developer job in some companies even in Nigeria these days if you're not conversant with microservices.
Maybe you didn't understand the tone of my comment.

Docker, K8, are not gibberish.

Your post actually talked about the cost benefits of both and your post complained about how expensive it is the set up Microservices.

That was when I drew the cpanel comparison. You can't be using Microservices architecture and thinking of cpanel, whereas, cpanel is very cheap and ubiquitous.

I didn't say they are not good. They are excellent are were created to solve popular problems.

But for small to medium projects, the Microservices architecture is mostly overrated and not even needed. This is strongly my opinion tho and that of many other developers.

You can go the monolithic way until the company becomes as big as nairaland for example.

Docker on its own isn't so bad. You can use Docker with monolith.
Programming › Re: Cost Benefits: Monolith Or Microservices? by Karleb(m): 2:05am On Jul 19, 2021
Microservices are overrated in a way.

Most companies using micro-service architecture started with monolith, when the code base became large, they switched to Microservices.

There are a lot of applications making cool money using monolith. E.g Nairaland.

So stick to monolith, most people don't expect you to tear their app into Microservices. When you get employed by a FAANG comapny, study your Microservices.

As per cost, it's not worth it.

While you are shouting Docker, Kubernetes, clusters and all those gibberish, Another dev would just open cpanel, dumb the code and deliver to client.

Oga, this time you use to calculate the man profit, you for use am think of how to start a school.

If you think school business is easy and profitable then go into it.

Even among employees some earn way higher than others based on how difficult, technical and risky the job is.

Entrepreneurs earn higher because they do the most difficult, technical and risky jobs.

I have worked, now I run a business. I understand all these.
You people should stop all these emotional blackmail and pay your staff well.

A private school that charge as high as 150k, with 1000 students ? Unless it is a school own by a Religious institution, it is just an exaggerated figure. Now imagine how many staffs will be needed to cater for 1000 students even if it is true. That school will have nothing less than 60 Academic and non-staffs. Entry level is 49k according to you which means we have others earning above that.
And no one care if the school fees arent paid. It is the owner's cup of tea. Like i said initially, we are good at calculating what people earn without calculating the number of expenses that must be sorted for the existence of the business.
I know some employers are cruel cos i have worked for people before starting my business 7 yrs ago but we still have good employers who are doing their best for their employees but arent appreciated.
The truth of the matter is that, if we keep up arguing we wont stop talking till tomorrow.
cheesy

Baba! I know what I'm saying.

I've known this school since I was born. In fact, I even understated the values.

If registered S S S 3 students could be upto 150, now imagine how many the S S S 2 would be. At least double. How about the lower classes?

The school is pure boarding. Now it has day. Same school, different buildings. One for day, the other for boarding. Which is separate from the primary school.

Let's not decieve ourselves, only few people get to earn so much. Even if he has 100 staffs, which would comprises of a lot of non academic staff, only few would be earning well over hundred. Let's say 20 percent.

The S S S3 students alone has paid the salary for more than 2 terms.

Talking of expenses, the S S S 2 school fees for a year would clear off the yearly expenses.

I hate to calculate another person's money but nothing stop that school from paying N100k at entry level, it doesn't even affect them in any way.

There is another school here that prints millions monthly but still pay N30k as salary.

Of course we always agree to disagree but it's the reason why Nigeria is still very poor today. There is money but the money is within a small percentage of the population's reach. Majority are poor even though they work very hard.

At the initial stage of a company, I don't expect the pay to be so great but when you are now mature and in deep annual profit, nothing, absolutely nothing stops you from paying your employees well enough.

Some companies started with 30k, ten years later, they are still paying 30k.

Do you know how much he invested to get the school to that level?

Gather 10 people together and pay them 49k monthly for a year in the name of starting a school, come back and give situation result.
Look at what you are saying? huh

If the work is so easy, why not do it yourself?

This school I'm talking about is notorious for using its worker.

I'm very sure you voted Buhari the second time with this line of reasoning.

We have more than one side to every arguement.
You are talking from an Employee's point of view.
When you become an Employer of Labour, u definitely see things differently.

You see what will call BUSINESS , Isn't a child's play and when you are down, no one will recue you .People who can't help you will be ready to buy your company immediately.

Most Employees will calculate the company's income without calculating the cost of running the business daily.

Let me give you little analysis from the figure u dropped. 150k as school fees and a teacher earns 49k monthly. It means a student fees has been used to settle a teacher for the term. Imagine having 10 staffs.
Now the number of students must be above 40 for such school to think of a reasonable profit. U pay for electricity, advertisment, levy, renovations, expansion, loans repayment, examinations etc.
If the owner isnt careful, after paying all these bills, he wont be earning up to 120k as monthly salary. (This is someone who build, breath , think and shoulder the risk and responsibility of the business)
This school I'm taking about, for S S S 3 alone, they have 150 students, these senior students pay at least N300k based on Jamb, WAEC and NECO charges.

The school's population is atleast 1,000 for the secondary alone.

The owner goes around, building hotels, building other schools and paying N49 at entry level. That's too poor.

You people should stop saying the "you'd see things differently when you become employer" line.

A lot of employer in Nigeria rip off their employee.

Income during the period when the company makes profit or loss ?

What if at any point the company makes loss ,should wages be renegotiated downward visavis
During the pandemic. Professional players took wage cut. Some were sacked, many weren't payed. Which is quite understandable to some extent.

What of when a certain company make excess of their normal profit, should they renegotiate upward?

Nobody is forbidden from setting up a business.

If you feel underpaid, set up a business and change the narrative.

If only some of you understand the sacrifices employers make to keep the company running, you won't be saying these.
This is like saying if you can't pay your employees, close down your business.

Employers need to be reasonable in this Nigeria.

Those two are just unbelievable, we may continue to enjoy this rivalry for many more years to come. As for how Pele/Maradona rivalry would have been, we may never know as they didn't play in the generation. Maradona was more of a playmaker with magical dribbling skill and passing ability, just like Messi was until his rivalry for goals with Ronaldo kicked in.

There should be a body to look into this.

There is a school in my community, the least you pay per term is N150k but their entry level payment is N49k.

Don't fret.

You were posted as a corper. Most organizations won't expect you to be at the level of an actual staff there, I'm sure they won't even place you on salary their staff earn.

Since you know product design, tell them that's what you do. At least, you can design, if anyone volunteer to teach you photshop or coreldraw for a month, you should get it.

Besides, it's plateau state, I'm sure they don't have much designers like in Lagos for example and they wouldn't want to let you go.

I personally think you should have delayed your NYSC though.

Being a child then, i remember how my pop and neighbors kept screaming and watching the games joyfully. Brasil had so many stars then, during the Atlanta '96 and they were so happy beating Nigeria.. After Nigeria ended up winning the game, the tears kept rolling down their eyes cos the Olympic medal was always a great achievement on the world scene.. Ranked after the World cup had always been the Olympics and it still is, but the moment the discussion about who's greater between Messi and Ronaldo rolled in, people began talking down the Olympics cos Messi already had it. In that same 2008 that Messi won it, so many great names played in it, but the fact that Messi won it with Argentina, the Olympics has become a useless competition.
