Vyolet: If a woman can bath her son til certain age, a man should do same to kids regardless of their gender. If you cannot trust your husband with his kids then you have no business being in that marriage. People are always talking of trusting their husbands but women do more ridiculous things with children. Whoever brought that topic up must have a serious issue. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a man bathing his daughter. |

htdot: It just like saying a physiology can understand the functions of the body the way a physician also do.... or a person who study pharmacology has the license to dispense drug.... So a patient should render his/her body to someone who was nt taught on how to collect blood sample from vain in school. In canada even if you are a medical scientist and you dont have a license , you cant practice. We so much embrace quackery in this country.... If you are license to collect patient sample, run the test and give out the result for medical treatment then, you are being back by the law and there for you are permitted but if you are not license and any thing happen you will have yourself to be blame. You obviously haven't been to a research lab. I have been to one, albeit small and I can tell you that as a biochemist, you have the right to conduct a biochemical test. My knowledge of biochemistry is a bit rusty, but biochemical tests I can remember include: Blood sugar level. Pregnancy test. This basically detect the presence of Hcg hormone. DNA tests. HIV Test. This is just antigen, antibody interaction. In fact, most of the test being conducted in hospitals are biochemical tests. Many of my friends who did their SIWES in private hospitals actually learnt these and before they rounded up their programs, they were conducting it for patients and doing well. These tests are not rocket science and it's what we've been taught in school. Students/Corps members are in your hospital for knowledge. There is nothing wrong with showing them the processes, it doesn't contravene the law anywhere. If you are mentioning Biochemistry and quackery in thesame statement, it means you don't know much about biochemistry. |

Jman06: I believe those med lab guys do what they do because of the Nigerian factor. Don't be surprised to see one of those IT students trying to set up a lab just after the five months training. You know in Nigeria, many people lack discipline and honesty. A student trying to set up a lab after just 5 months SIWES will fail. If by chance they don't, they should be given presidential recognition. My lecturer who has a small lab in my Alma Mater had 2 P. hDs from foreign universities before he could think of owing a lab. A month after SIWES, myself and my guys could still produce cocoa bread, chocolate et al. But we can't even think of it because we had other pressing issues. The cost of apparatus is enough to discourage not to talk of the cost of machines. |

deavicky: Why most courses are useless is because most people study them in other to get employed. If had study to come out and solve a problem relating to what u studied. I bet u, u will understand that it is good to had study what u studied. You people should stop saying this line. It annoys me. People get a degree for employment everywhere in the world. Besides, when you get employed, you get employed to solve a problem. |
Education › Re: What Is The Worst University Course To Study? by Karleb(m): 9:26am On Jul 09, 2021 |
Jman06: The problem in Nigeria is that the course is already saturated with too many graduates having a B.Sc in Biochemistry. Almost every university in Nigeria offers biochemistry and year in year out they keep churning out graduates of biochemistry. Besides, they are not even properly trained in terms of practical exposures.
By the way, the purpose of BSc biochemistry is not for you to work in medical laboratory. It is a research-based discipline aimed primarily at producing researchers in the field! But here in Nigeria, the purpose has been lost and that is why graduates of biochemistry now see medical lab scientists as enemies and rivals. Meanwhile, medical laboratory scientists are the ones that have the requisite training to man clinical labs. Check your curriculum and compare it with that of medical laboratory science, you'll discover (if you're honest enough) that there's a whole lot of difference.
I think the way forward is for the NSBMB and other stake holders to go back to the drawing board, rediscover the purpose of the course and focus on it, whilst cutting down on the number of intakes into the program and equipping training labs so as to impart the right practical exposures to the students.
This is coming from a biochemistry graduate(2-1) who is now a pharmacist. I am not interested in dragging with lab technicians or any profession in the health line. The ordeal I narrated happened to SIWES students. Why accept SIWES students and not train them? Why should a professional be afraid of SIWES students? As far as SIWES is concerned, it's all about the grade and knowledge. It will take an Einstein to setup his test/research laboratory after 5 months SIWES. A colleague who studied microbiology is facing the same issue as a corps member at a particular FMC in Ogun State. This issue is rare in private laboratories though. I did my SIWES at Cocoa Research in Ibadan and I was shown everything. My colleague who interned at Coca-Cola in Lagos was shown everything, of course no one has access to the formula. To be candid, the gate keeping in the public health sector just doesn't make sense. |

LordIsaac: Biochemistry... They can hardly fit in anywhere without discrimination; an extremely difficult course with almost zero job opportunity in Nigeria. I remember when our senior colleagues were complaining that the lab technicians at the hospital didn't allow them come close to the laboratory equipments. They said Biochemistry is not a professional course. Whereas, the test they take with the machines are pure biochemical tests. So much hate and gate keeping in the health sector. Microbiology is worse tho. I don't even regard that course. |

Shokoloko: You are able to send you parents as you like because they do not pressure you. For this young man's type of parents they seem to be the type that will work best with routine. (more evident as they are both teachers) With people that are consistently requesting for money set a schedule even if it is N10,000 or N20,000 stick to it religiously Its people that do not always ask that you can surprise with a little more like the extra N20000 (to make N50,000) that you are talking about
Lets imagine OP send his parents N50000 in January and 30k in march. As far as they are concerned, he owes them N20.000 and they will keep pressurizing him until he brings out that balance. They will operate best with rigid routines What if they pressurize him? Them point am gun? No parent should mandate their wards to send them money, especially if the so-called parents have a source of income. The OP should not succumb to any pseudo-pressure. A cousin of mine fell into that trap of sending a fixed amount monthly. It got to an extent, his parent started reminding him of what to do whenever it is the end of the month. They even demanded that he increases the amount. Don't put your parents on monthly allowance. It's a trap. African parents will always be African parents. |

Shokoloko:
Determine a monthly allowance to send to them and stick to it. You will need to save money as life throws us the unexpected sometimes. Even if you are dangote-wealthy, get a budget and stick to it: be disciplined This is a bad advice o. Send them money but don't make it a fixed amount and don't send it regularly. You can send 50k this month and send 30k in the next two months. If you send, say 40k every month, there will be trouble the month you don't send it. I guess I'm lucky to have my parents. |

If you are staying idle with your parent for so long especially after graduation, you are in trouble. Unless you parents are angels themselves or you are the only child, they will give you problems. You went to Ghana and brought 3rd class home. First sin. You impregnated a divorce. Second sin. You steal your Dad's money. 3rd sin. My advice is, you leave that house if you have a place you can manage and come home like once or twice a week. Absence creates a form of power. |
