2% of a country with 100m people will have 2m deaths. No be chicken dey die o. Human beings.

At a point I was asking myself all these '100 new deaths added', are they not humans that are counted as ordinary number.

And where there is no cure or vaccine, there is instant panic.

And any disease that is communicable and that needs quarantine destroys economy. Because you close a section of the business or sector to prevent further spread.

Market is pricing in the economic effect that will come after the deaths, diseases.

Let's put things in proper perspectives now. Imagine Air China flies into Nigeria 3 times a day, everyday. A ban on air China means that the Company that supplies fuel for refuelling the plane in Nigeria will be in crisis. Those baggage companies that support airline passenger boarding and disembarkment are in trouble. Hotels that support huge number of chinese tourist are in trouble. Shopping Malls will have reduced patronage. The person that supplies groceries to the hotel is in trouble. Airport taxis waiting to pick passengers will have reduced passengers. There are huge cascading effects.

Open your mind and see the effect.

But there is no way an entire country will be catching coronavirus. I get your point, but like in every economic crisis, propaganda or mildly put, information, is always key. Before you know it, everybody catches the diluted or exaggerated media view, effectively programming the mind.

During the 2008 crisis, Most businesses just went into limbo because they were programmed to believe the world was coming to an end. People were just sitting on their cash - nobody was willing to spend because nobody was spending. Everybody caught the bug!

There is a lot of fear in the air right now, and it is not doing anybody any good. That same fear is the reason somebody will be willing to pay 500% more for a hand sanitizer! Same reason you see people walking about with surgical masks, which have been proven to be useless. An Italian (who is most likely to pull through the infection) enters with symptoms, and the country goes hysterical. Is that the way to manage crisis? During ebola, propagandists made people believe that drinking salt and bathing with same was a sure cure. In a week in Enugu, many traders abandoned their trades and became instant salt merchants. The result? Excessive salt intake killed more people than ebola itself!

The current virus sure has economic effect, but it is not as bad as most think. I am more realistic than optimistic, because we have all seen it before, again and again. This too, shall pass sooner than we expect! cool cool

We pray God will help us put an end to the ravaging virus soonest.
The bids in fcmb were actually in anticipation of good result, it was Covid19 that spoilt the show.

I really don't see what is ravaging about Covid19, with just about 2% mortality rate. It is not a death warrant for crying out loud. It's the media blowing it out of proportion.

Its almost natural that in times like these, u tend to see 3 categories of investors;

1) Those who would look to exaggerate RISK by spreading the FEAR gospel, so they can get assets at a cheap in their quest to time the market.
2) Those who would be infested by the 1st group and become so engrossed with too many extrapolations that they end up missing out on some clear opportunities.
AND
3) Those who can manage to alienate FEAR from RISK, avoid timing the market and shrewdly seek REWARD by tapping from any great opportunity in between.......

You said it all. I read, and laughed at the panic in the atmosphere grin

By portfolio is down too, since I failed to sell at the top of the last rally. But I know this happens every now and then. Since the money is not needed, I let it roll. If it goes down further to irresistible level, I will load more.

If you bought UBA at 9.25 one month ago and it closed today at 6.85, this is 26% loss.

If you invested N100m,you have 74m left.

Same with those who bought Access at 12 and now it 9. i.e. 25% loss.

So how can your body not heat up? grin

And with such a loss and it continues to fall, won't you faint? What if it nears 50% loss. Meaning N50m gone!

Uzodinmma evidences were much credible as even his rival Emeka couldn't disprove them cos it was pretty obvious, hence Justice was served and the rightful winner was declared the governor.
you could even see the way Emeka Ihedioha started when he was sworn in, instead of him to face the underdeveloped state of Imo, he began attacking and fighting his predecessors. That shows him to be an arrogant soul that wouldn't mean good to the people of IMO state

And in the end, the total vote exceeded the accredited voters?

An interesting thread!

curiousmugu:
I'm a data science aspirant but lately I have been getting discouraged because it seems like nothing is going on in the country as regards data science.

I type a search query on google with different variations of 'data science in nigeria' and I get absolutely nothing. The highest I see is about a boot camp that was held in January. It appears that learning data science in Nigeria would be a waste of time - I stand to be corrected. I can't see firms doing stuff with it and if I see Individuals doing it, they do it as side projects.

Enough with my ranting.
So, I need help. Is Nigeria not yet ripe for data science or I am not search right?

I see blogs talking about how data science would change the country.. Bla, bla bla and bla., yeah, right?

All talk and no work

PS-Whatever the replies may be, I don't have plans of quitting, I just want to act smart.

Thanks

Seun, mods.

Please do something. This can go a long way to help me and people having same issue

I will advise you NEVER quite no matter what! The reason data science is still seemingly embryonic in the country is because we are backward technologically. We will get there sooner than you expect. But before you get into the statistics, algebra, coding and pattern communication, I will advise you understand data itself. Most trainings will jump straight to R, Python, Tableau, etc, but without understanding how the data interconnect - quantity, relevance, correctness, sources, you will become a surfer with great muscles and physic, but face problems catching the wave and staying safe.

One major challenge I have seen apart from data management skills - analyst, analytics, scientist et al, is very limited data. Business are not gathering enough data to work with yet, and they don't know how to. That is an area they should focus on, if properly directed!

Inception:
Hi guys,

3 weeks ago I recently purchased a Toks 2008 Lexus ES 350 from Lagos.
Upon arrival I noticed a slightly harsh 1-2 shift ( which was quite unusual for a U660E transmission, as I have driven many) amongst other minor nuances.

But my current worry now is that on a typical cold start, I noticed a quite serious 2-3 shift flare and 4-5 shift flare( which is even worse than the 2-3 flare), accompanied by the occasional 1-2 harsh shift. But after like 7 minutes of driving, the shift flare is gone( but the 1-2 harsh shift is still there).
Also noticeable is a harsh engagement into reverse from Neutral or park. Shifting from Drive to reverse and vice versa is quite smooth

So far I have not done anything to the transmission ( nothing has been touched)

No transmission code is present.

Pls help advise me on what to do because it is becoming a source of worry that the transmission may pack up soon

thank you for the response.kindly direct me to the solenoid connectors. I want to also believe it's electrical but why can't it be pushed on neutral? it's really confusing

I will check to be sure. I need to be sure if it uses internal or external TCM. But on the interim, look for wires entering the gear.

And also I have been making researches on how much a 10 pin gear would cost,
It is around 80-90k

And also is it advisable to buy a used gear

Or shd I just buy the toks

Buy toks
Car Talk / Re: 03 Big Daddy Gear Problem by Kashif(m): 7:12pm On May 09, 2019
Khalifa99:
I purchase a 2003 totoya carmy toks popularly known as big daddy last year Oct 2018

Few days ago,I just noticed when the car is on motion
It would rev down
And also when it is about to change gear from 1 to 2

And den it was hard for it to move forward unless I floor the gas and also when I put it in Reverse it wont move unless I press the gas very well it would just keep acting slowing even of I press the gas self it would be very slow while reversing

It is so hard to the car to change

So I took the car to my mech
He told me it was my gear and my fuel pump

He change the oil to (Oando-Atf dexron II)

Still yet the car was having problems in changing the gear
So I told him
He said it was because of the oil is still yet to go around the gear
And then he told me I must change the fuel pump for it to be normal I told him I would come the next day
The next day I had the fuel pump changed and it
seems to normal,
The gear was selecting well and I was happy

Only for me to go out in the evening and the car starts revving not wanting to change gear
I managed it till I got to where I could park the car

And got down to check what was wrong

Only for me to start the car and engage it in gear
It wasn't moving forward or backward
I tried checking all the gears non was working

So I called the mech and he came to tow the car

He was then assuring me that it was going to be the gear filter

That all he had to do was to clean the fuel filter

It would go back to normal

Now the mech is telling me I have to change the gear
I don't trust the mech

Am sad and not happy because this is my first car

Please help what can I do

The problem is around your gear, but to take out engine, take car to a place where you have ample frontal space, and do the following with the engine running:

Put 'wedge' in front of tyres
Engage the parking brake
Press and hold down the brake firmly with your left foot.
Put the gear in D
Keep your eyes on the tachometer
Floor the throttle (with your right) for 3 second and let go immediately
Take note of what the tachometer reads during this test.

NOTE: This can only be done if the gear still moves.

I have a Toyota camry 2007 with 13pin gear that is spoilt.....I gave the mechanic money for the gear instead of putting 13pin he put in a 10pin gear....he then said the 10pin is better than the 13pin gear

While it is true that '10pin' is better than '13pin' (fewer parts, fewer problems), they serve different purposes. Install what your car needs.
