The bolded is very wrong. Maxi Sys comes in various how do you intend to programme ICM for bmwF10 without autel's on line subscription. You would never get that possible. How do you intend to programme an ism for Benz GL450. With out the autel's subscription you would never be given access. It's something am currently facing now and that's the reality. Only using my BMW icom for beemar jobs now

You are getting it wrong. If you are using Autel pass through connected to a laptop with OEM subscription, what do you need Autel subscription for? Are you saying you must have Maxi Sys before you can program outside of Maxi? You are only limiting yourself to BMW and MB if you are sticking to Maxi. Of course if you don't have Autel's sub, you cant program with Maxi, but not with their pass through. How many MB come to your shop for programming? There are more Japs on the road, and Maxi Sys are useless with those.

And if you have many MB and BMW customers, why not pay for Autel's sub and charge accordingly?

It was setup cost that triggered this debate.

question.

Would a faulty cluster cause transmission to slip?

Need informed answers.

I did not read where it was stated that the transmission was slipping. Can somebody point me there?

I read that gear was not shifting properly. You can only say a transmission is slipping when its actual output speed is lower at any range, than the designed speed (the computer is always looking at the input and output speeds, comparing the ration to its map). Some are so obvious the driver will notice; others are so little only the computer will notice. Computer keeps setting code, and you are pulling your hair wondering what's going on.

No automatic transmission will shift properly if it is not seeing vehicle speed signal.

Just imagine a blind-folded deaf man sitting by the driver, and tasked with selecting gears as the car is being driven. How him fit cope?

Maxi Sys elite with 2yrs free update sells for 3500usd inclusive of the j2534 box. After expiration of the free update you pay 1350usd . To navigate through the delearship server you pay the appropriate fee depending on what service you need. Ford for instance do not joke with this. Each time you log in you are charged exclusive of getting a pass thru software from their server. With the aforementioned what do you think should be an appropriate fee for this service on the Nigerian soil

You don't need Maxi Sys Elite to program, but you need its J2534 box. This can be installed on most WinXp and Win7 laptops and hooked up to the vehicle's OBD. Apart from Mercedes and BMW, Maxi will not fare well. You cannot program Hyundai with Maxi; you will need their software on a PC, and subscription. Those OEM programs don't run on Android, which is Maxi's OS.

My point here is that with a good pass through, PC and subscription, you can program. Leave Maxi out of the equation. Discounting the subscription, hardware will not cost 3500usd like you stated. Autel's pass through is 800usd, which can be purchased alone. Add that to another 700usd for laptop. That is 1500usd. Then you pay for subscription. You can even do pay/day or week or month for some manufacturers. Since you have the device, (and most likely a laptop), you are almost there. You don't need Autel's update subscription to program.

On the amount to charge, it depends on your business model, but on-the-fly programming (where you don't need to pay subscription) will cost you, the technician around 43k per job, irrespective of brand. There are other details.

you can check here for OEM details if you want to subscribe:

Hope this helps.

waow, this is pretty much.

to break even u need to charge clients @ least 100usd per session considering the frequency of end users.

It depends on the approach of the programming shop. If they chose to be doing on-the-fly programming, their own cost is even higher than that. Then the markup comes in.

No comment. Who would pay for this after investing 3500usd on this tool with 1350usd yearly subscription

Not sure where the 3500usd came from. Drew Tech that is arguably the best is below 1700usd.

If it has to be done, it has to be done. There are problems you CANNOT solve without reprogramming. At some point, you will just start offering the service. If you don't want to spend money buying your own hardware, there is a way around it, but your customers end up paying more.

Yes sir.

But it was first replaced with a wrong one from a 2011 kia sportage (same outward looking transmission, but different gear and final drive ratios)

Clunking started immediately car was driven. But the nail on the coffin was that TCU adaptation was reset to this transmission . It first drove very smooth for about 30km and of course it went back to limp mode again.

Transmission was later replaced with the correct one (after serious research) and TCU reset, But this time only 1-2 was smooth with serious flares at other shift points at WOT. This persisted after transmission was exchanged with at least 4 other gearboxes of same spec.

Is it possible to find the stock TCM? That will be the easier fix.

Text me your VIN let me see what I can find.

Why is that? Where have you been searching?

If it's a hyundai vehicle all you need is a Gscan scan tool to do that. I have an autel j2534 pass thru tool but I can't confidently say if it supports hyundai and kia. I might need to get back to you on that

J2534 is a global protocol, and Autel pass through is listed as one of the best. It will program Hyundai and Kia if you have subscription.

How often do you guys get ECU programming requests?

Please i would like to have someone who offers this service in PH....

CC. Kashif, Chukel, Gazzuzz, MotorGuru, AutoElectNg

I don't know anyone. This service is embryonic in this part of the world, with people not even knowing what it is. The demand is very low. You will reckon that 98% of vehicles on our roads are running stock calibration.

Has the transmission been replaced?

It does not shift more than the 3rd gear and down shift is even worse. It delays for about 5 to 10 secs for it to engage the 1st gear when the car comes to a stop when driving.

The replacement pump is most likely not delivering adequate pressure. Have this confirmed ASAP so you don't toast your clutches.

OP, these are my final words on this thread, you asked for advice but have consistently ignored well meaning advice.

I will only reopen communication when I see (please see picture below).

Now for the benefit of anyone else who has a 2010 Corolla with P0500:

This is what you need to know.

First, take note that repairs will require access to factory information.

Second, the factory diagnostic information is different depending on the engine installed in your Corolla.

Third, it is not sufficient to search for hits in the open internet, the information therein is incomplete at best and irrelevant/outdated at worst.

Fourth, P0500 is a generic code and implementation varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, and consequently testing and fault isolation procedures can never be the same.

Fifth, due to copyright concerns and indeed respect for copyright, I can only provide highlights....

These are the highlights:

41 documents were responsive to the search.

4 of which are super relevant, the rest address the issue of looking at symptoms not individually but as part of a system, repairing cars today requires that the automotive technician deploy systems thinking and not symptoms thinking.

The information was last modified/updated on: 4-17-2018, that was just 3 months ago for a 2010 car! Those of us with PDFs gotten off the internet would most definitely miss the update!, the update is not even in PDF format but HTTP.

There are 3 other related codes.

The factory manual lists 4 areas to check to resolve this issue and the transmission is not one of them!

From Day 1, I have always made the point that if you bring your repair to me, I will do it exactly the same way as the manufacturer would or a dealer would, I would play by the book, I cannot imagine any other way to fix a car aright.

And that is why my brand specific threads are aptly titled Dealer-Level Diagnostics.

By the way, I am cheaper than the average dealer but costlier than the average shade tree mechanic, but I stand behind my work!

May I respectfully bow out of here.

cc: Uboma

Don't apply everything you read from manuals. That is the reason many Dealerships are not able to fix many problems. With time, you will realise that you apply what the manual says in a particular issue, and still not resolve it. Experience thought me!

Please i need help with my 2008 camry 13pin transmission. I had oil leakage and i was told my transmission oil pump was the issue. The oil stopped leaking after the change but the gear is not shifting properly. Please is it possible to change the seals on my previous oil pump and refix it.

The did is done already I think. Going back to your old pump is not likely to fix it.

How is it shifting now?

Car Talk / Don't Change Your Gear While Vehicle Is Still Moving; Protect Your Gear! by Kashif(m): 8:24am On Jun 27, 2018
This morning, I watched my colleague park his car, and the way he drove got me concerned. While he was parking, he had to go back and forth a couple of times, and each time, engaging the drive or reverse gear before the car came to a complete stop.

When he was done, I called him and explained the implication of his driving habit, which is premature wear of the gear, especially the clutches.

Your gear is NOT designed to stop the vehicle. When the vehicle is still moving (no matter how slowly), and you engage the reverse gear, the holding members responsible for that range kick in, and struggle to first overcome the opposite rotation before pulling in the desired direction. This comes with negligible wear, but mount if this abuse continues over time.

The gear is designed to ramp up pressure with throttle input - the more the engine load, the higher the internal pressure. This ensures that the holding members (clutches, brakes, bands) respond with corresponding pressure to avoid slip. With zero throttle input during this abusive switch, the gear's internal pressure is at its lowest so, it is not able to contain that sudden slip effectively.

While your vehicle is crawling, the gear's internal parts are moving at higher speeds!

Protect your gear by avoiding this habit. Nice day!

Oscilloscope?

Am I on the right path to sort out the electricals first?

Yes oscilloscope, and yes, you are on the right path. The problem is purely electrical. Once it is sorted, the car and owner are happy.

Oscilloscope will tell you if you are having a sine wave where you should be having a square wave, and vise versa. It will also tell you if your signal is distorted or not. It takes over from where digital meters stop.

I'm sorry I've been off for some days now... I've actually been dealing with the money I've lost over the past 3 weeks trying to find solutions to my car issues...

I had the car checked by Mike and he confirmed it's a transmission issue...

Yes!!! I got a new transmission. It was carefully installed (with two gallons of original Toyota WS oil @17k each - that set my account about 150k backwards)

And the result was undesirably the same...

It shifts from 1-3 and stays there. Same P0500 code.

To respond to your questions, Yes the brake lights come up only when i step on the brakes.

Wow!

You need a good electrician who can scope signals. Automatics won't work well without a clean VS signal. The signal is generated, but it either doesn't get to your PCM, or gets there too weak for the PCM to make any meaning out of it.

To all technicians here, don't think of replacing any gear without establishing what the computer is commanding first. If there are no flares, you are most likely down with electrical issue(s).

Solved: the problem is from the gearbox. The car was scanned with error code: P0770 Shift Solenoid.

The gearbox was dropped, opened and the following was replaced

Solenoid
Some burnt fibre
Converter.

And the car is good to go now.

Congrats, though I feel a converter change alone could have solved the problem.
