mayor2013: Do you have any failure recorded after 48hrs of waiting. Your point is top notch. But CV joint replacement when these transmissions are hot cannot be eschewed I have seen many of them. Because of this heat/cold myth, mechanics even wait for three days! I know you won't try it, but one day, I will come to your shop and guarantee a transmission replacement if something goes wrong with 'hot' job done properly. How about that? |

Readonee35L: Kashif you seem to have a different opinion about this 13pin transmission which people claims to fail if cv is changed while hot. I Believe in you a lot when it comes to transmission.
Can you educate us more on what could have caused it to fail The problem is that U150 aka 13pin transmissions are very unforgiving when contaminated. A pinch of sand is all it takes to ground them. It is mostly tree-shed mechanics that suffer this the most, because of their work ethics and environment. During shaft replacements, they would usually drop the replacement shaft on the (sandy) ground before installation, which will guarantee dirt ingress into the transmission. When they attempt to clean, they don't do a thorough job. They would just use a rag to 'dust' it and then install. If you do this, it will come back to bite you. It needs to be washed if you work under this condition. Another source of dirt during installation is the shaft seal. That too needs to be cleaned (as much as you can) otherwise, the dirt there will rob off on the shaft as it makes its way into the transmission. It is common to hit the seal a couple of times while aiming at the orifice. If temperature is the issue, then how can failures after 48-hour wait be explained? I have worked on these when they had only cooled down enough to be handled without contact burns, and no issues. |

OPUSDEI1: The problem with most mechanics is CARELESSNESS. I have done same day shaft jobs on both U151 and 660 transmissions with NO issues thereafter. Please tell them. This issue has NOTHING to do with heat. If you do it carelessly after one week inside a freezer, there will be problems. |

Out of curiosity, I wondered if baking soda could have some cleaning effect on automobile lamp lens as it does to other things, so I tried it out.
Made a paste out of it and applied to the lens. Initially, I used fine sand paper, testing on top of the lens, and it proved too abrasive, almost ruining the lens.
Then I used my bare palm. I noticed the crisp white soda turning yellow on application. Did it twice and rinsed. It did not turn it to new, but the difference is evident!

weyreypey: Not at all bro they'll only chew the poisonous bread. The strategy of spreading the fight over a distance is to break the pattern of the offending rat colony. Not really wiping them out. Rats are creatures of habit. Once the offending colony is dealt with and a sizeable chunk of the community is eradicated...be assured his car will remain safe for years to come. You are lucky rats in your area are organised in colonies. In my area, they got no chill, and unrelenting. Those are big enough for one to even run away with agege bread! |

weyreypey: There's this powder poison which is mixed with vegetable oil... and bread.... Bros you are going to need this combo to launch an attack on the rat colony.... Not only in your engine bay but in your environment... Thank me later..... In my own case I waged the war against the colony over a 50 metre radius He is looking at stopping them from tampering with his wires. The poison you suggested will attract them. They will chew, and then go and die. Remember they are inexhaustible outdoors. He needs something to keep them away. |
Car Talk › Re: Tips And Tricks To Make Your Automotive Battery Last Long by Kashif(m): 5:36pm On Sep 21, 2018 |
AutoElectNG: I am very passionate about automotive electronics, electricals and computer systems.
I have invested an inordinate amount of time to study and stay updated on all the above.
If you have ever had to replace an automotive battery in less than 2 years you maybe doing something wrong.
In a best case scenario, you should be able to extract at least 5 years from your battery.
I have been a victim of this as well....perturbed I was, so I decided to research the matter thoroughly.
I will share with you some of my findings.
Stay tuned.
I will post as time permits over the course of the next 10 days, in other words, I am not in a hurry.
You will sure learn a thing or two. You may do all the right things and still end up with a dead battery in one year. Bad batteries abound. Here to learn. |

Get WD40 and spray on your cables. You will need to refresh periodically.
While looking for it, buy original Irish Spring soap and leave in your engine bay. I heard it can keep rodents away. |

There are a lot that will not throw a code. In such cases (which this most likely belongs to) the live data is critical.
OP, look for an experienced tech for diagnosis. |

Flames000: I always perceive a smell of burnt oil wen I park sha.... I went to run some diagnosis today I was told that there were issues withave the knock sensor 1/2 and airflow sensors.... I would be going back there 2moro to have the catalyst checked.... If you have an airflow sensor issue, you MUST fix it first before anything. Given the symptoms you have, it is not likely the primary culprit (as you said the gear works well bone cold), but it will ruin even a brand new gear from Toyota in a while, if not fixed. Something else I did not elaborate - sticky solenoids (in the valvebody) are also known to act up when hot. Just prepare to replace that gear, but fix other engine problems first. |

Car Talk › Re: Can Someone Please Help My Poor Little Lexus? by Kashif(m): 1:39pm On Sep 03, 2018 |
The problem was there before the car was serviced, so don't blame the atf. Most of wrong atf effects show in drive feel and converter shudder. CVTs are much more intolerant.
The car in not in limp mode, because limps don't flip flop on its own.
@OP, what is the state of your atf now? Dark and burnt? If yes, you have an obvious leakage. Check the running temperature of your transmission via a scanner, or physically - capable thermometer or thermocoupler. There are many details, but the summary is that something is wrong with your transmission that atf replacement will not resolve. If the atf is not burnt, you may try and replace the VB if you get a working one.
Was any job done on the car before this started? |
