As a body horror enthusiast, I can certainly say that 'The Substance' is a top ten contender for 2024. Objectively, it isn't for everyone. It will not get an Oscar recognition due to its graphic nature and niche classification, but it is the type of film that a cinefile will always respect for the script's sheer chutzpah. The writers clearly enjoyed putting everything together.

I'm not going to make pretentious statements like it's incredibly profound or very meaningful... I don't care about any of it; what I do appreciate is the disgustingly brilliant graphic sequences and the mesmerising lunacy of the third act.

We need more films like this.

His Death was underwhelming for me tbh, i had soomuch faith (pun intended) in his arc.

Saw the death flags around Isha early into Act II and tried not to get attached. Failed woefully. When I started heaving a sigh of relief every time she escaped danger, I knew I was in trouble.

I don't really care about Victor's death, there is no emotional attachment to him from me.

As for his arc, there is alot to explain on Act III.

Cos if he was already dying or going to die cos of the overuse of Hextech, what was the use behind him doing all this?

Most likely because Viktor ends up causing or being the cause of a big catastrophe before his system fails. That's one way to look at it.

But also, cba about her perceived death tbh, the fleshing of her character arc is so short for me to get that attached 🤷🏿‍♂️, if for anything, her death will enrage Jinx more, and make things more spicy, and not some family reunion lovey dovey final 3 episodes.
