End of Year Movie - Howl's Moving Castle (2004) Started the year with Ghibli (Spirited Away), ending the year with Ghibli. This also brings to completion my watchfest of the Ghibli movie catalogue, almost. I don't really have any interest in watching Tales From Earthsea and Ocean Waves. And then of course, there's The Boy and the Heron coming to international audiences in 2024, but I digress. Ending the year with Howl's fantastical story to match starting the year with Spirited's fantastical story is not exactly a theme I planned but now that I realize it, I do appreciate this unintended touch. - Ricky Gervais (2023) I don't really see a better way to enter the New Year than laughing my heart to some brutal Ricky Gervais comedy.

oyaskii:Hoping 2024 will be more cinema than this year. Looking forward to enjoy the gems, catch a few trash bullets and debate our different opinions. |
phr0nesis:X2 still remains by number one followed by Days of the Future Past. While First Class is the better movie and should take the 3rd spot, Last Stand is closer to my heart. |
CoolUsername:She did a good job, especially with the hair and expressions. |
CoolUsername:Is the second pic Kobeni? |
NoonMasamune:That Tosen cosplay is on point |
Baddestguyp:I just remember a time before S2 aired when you used to classify JJK as averagely written with nothing deep. Now e don turn advanced calculus for your head. Like I said, I've taken note. Carry on with your hyping |
Baddestguyp:So JJK's the latest bandwagon you're on. Noted. Carry on |
Baddestguyp:There channels dedicated to dissecting the science in actual kids shows like Rusty Rivets. This is not the flex you think it is |
Chibudollar:Superman can see in the dark. Bro knew who he was doing 😂😝 |
oyaskii:Downloaded this 2 days ago the moment I saw it on PSA. Now looking even more forward to closing out the year with it. |
SOZINN:The same fatigue wey him say we dey deny ![]() |

Ishilove:Why should there be a caveat to warn heterosexual people off? Do Christian movies have a caveat to warn off people who are offended by Christianity? Do horror movies have a caveat to warn off people who are scared by it? Besides where did I say anybody is being forced to watch that gay shît?? Google the meaning of subliminal programming if you don't understand it.If the movie was actually an attempt to subliminally program you, you wouldn't have turned off the movie after 5 minutes. The whole point of subliminal programming is that the audience doesn't notice it. If you can notice the programming after a mere 5 minutes, then it's not subliminal. My point is back when gay people started getting representation, one of the arguments you people raised was that they should go and make their own movies instead of shoving their agenda in regular movies. Now that they've gone and made their own movie, you're still accusing them of some agenda against you. When they add caveat now, you will still find another excuse to scream agenda and programming |
abduleez1:Todo came in late like the VIP he is and still managed to steal the show. |
Ishilove:So homosexual people shouldn't have their own stories told for their own audiences? How is a movie done for a different audience part of some indoctrination? As you've said you'll not watch it, has anybody come to force you to watch it? |
Ishilove:Well, it's a comedy about 2 lesbians. Nobody was trying to indoctrinate you. Faults on you for not looking up the plot at least. |
Ishilove:How did you end up watching it at all, in the first place? |
holluwizzy:I don't really know how to walk you through this considering that there's a number of view-farming sites you have to pass through while still dealing with pop-up ads. And what you download is a zip file that you still have to unzip. I'd recommend "lightdl" dot xyz instead. |
Crumbian:They did a revival series in 2021. |
Ceciluchiha1:They only care about football. Only about 50% care about triple A games and even less than that play those games to finish. |
oyaskii:If there's one thing we know about the internet, it's that people will type just about anything on their keypads. They don't even need it to make sense. Folks like the obvious hater above aren't really the ones enabled by this movie. It's the ones who disguise themselves as being critical that have been armed with ammunition. Let's hope Zack still has enough goodwill with the audience by April and that Part 2 provides a essential piece to this creation. |
oyaskii:Most definitely it'll be judged differently. As much as Zack got himself a cult following, he also has an anti following, especially within the industry itself. But A Child of Fire is basically the first time I'm admitting that he made his haters' work easy for them. Did it have it's issues? oh yes? The major one being that the screenplay is like 75% Star Wars, ZS literally had a "Death Star" and "Light Saber" in this, that aside, it is a fairly decent flick, and it's not even the worst this year, let alone for a long while now, have we really had flicks of "high standards" in recent while to hold this against?.Definitely not the worst flick of the month even. But even going by Synder standards, this was sub par. I mean Army of the Dead did the whole gathering a team of mercs to pull a job better than this one. it had all the fine ingredients of an epic fantasy sci fi space saga. Good world building, decent character development..i mean, you have to really hate ZS, to actually not see what he was trying to do with this. The slo mo that people whinge about wasn't even distracting and it was purely there for dramatic effects and ZS had been doing this in his past project without qualms so what was the fuss about this?.Good world building? And decent character development? Are you going soft, bro? Or is it in the spirit of Christmas? The world building was barely fleshed out. I'm not even holding that against him since world building is something I prefer done slowly across the story rather than being hit with exposition after exposition. But decent character development is the one I can't get behind. All that lore revealed about Kora isn't selling me on her character. What reason do we have to care about Tarek or Gen. Titus? Let's not talk about the one who appeared and died in 30 minutes of screentime. Only Nemesis and Noble are the only characters that evoke a bit of interest. Let's be real here, please. Again, The "residual bias" against ZS is like 90% the reason people hate this, and i fear it has tanked his reputation for good, no serious prod company is giving him any serious money to make any serious project from here henceforth i fear, only prod companies like Netflix who has lots of money to burn and zero reputation to uphold will look his way.The residual bias is definitely a factor but, like I said in the beginning, Zack made it too easy for the haters. I mean, if he's not winning the interest of me, a fan, can the haters really be blamed for everything? |
Rebel Moon: Part One - A Child of Fire (2023) 6/10 This was supposed to be Zack's big break. I was rooting for him, as were a lot of other people. Only to be disappointed. While one of the most popular opinions about Snyder is that he's an awesome with the visuals but subpar at plotting, it wasn't until this movie that I also realized that the man also used to offer interesting characters. Say what you will about Sucker Punch or Army of the Dead, they had memorable characters. You had at least one character in Army of the Dead that their death made you feel something. After 2 hours of Rebel Moon, I don't give a flying fück about any of the characters. Part 2 could literally start with all of them massacred in the first 5 minutes and I wouldn't even blink. To say Zack dropped the ball here is an understatement. The main job of a first entry in a series is a solid introduction. The audience is introduced and made to care about the world/setting, the characters and/or the plot. I don care about any. Basically the only way I'm watching Part 2 would be seeing it being praised by folks I take seriously as a massive improvement over this first part. I'm saying it would have to pull a Wheel of Time S2 to get my attention back. And, apparently, Junkie XL learnt nothing after ZSJL. Man composed one epic track and started spamming the whole thing in multiple scenes. It wasn't as bad as Epic Lamentation in ZSJL. Maybe because this movie wasn't 4 hours long but by the 4th time of him repeating the same track, I knew I'd be seeing Tom Holkenborg in the credits. All that said, Zack has something decent here. There's some jewels under this pile of rocks he served. Perhaps he can polish them in the next entry. I won't be holding my breath though. Fortunately for him, the movie seems to be doing well so Netflix won't be on his neck.

Nickshrapnel:Theory that GotG 3 and Across the Spider Verse have already disproven since |
nani667:Szeto the goat 🙌🏿 |
abduleez1:Make we dey look sha. Nobody shift goalpost pass you for box office. When her next lead project flops now, you'll start telling us how this and that movies were blocking cinema theatres or how September is a tough month at the box office |
abduleez1:I'll doubt the star power sha until her next project does good numbers at the box office. She doesn't even have any new projects lined up for next year. See the fraud you're defending. Just because of small Barbie money, she's already going on sabbatical |
abduleez1:Ogbeni rest. She was had carried by Greta, Gosling and the Barbie brand. Let her do it again make we believe |
Illusioneffect:There's an Amazon x YouTube alliance. You can't convince me otherwise |
Erenjp:You can watch and then tell us about it. |
abduleez1:Let her sha do it after Barbie before you people start pushing agenda |
