This people would say stuff like this but watch Saw 1—6, talk about how much they love Jaime Lannister in GoT, and watch Euphoria. Of course, there nothing wrong with doing any of these but the hypocrisy is amazing.

I remember trolling some of them when Shazam 2 dropped with Meagan Good's character being a child and all of a sudden, it wasn't the same thing

Thanks for your response. This conversation was basically non-existent 10 years ago. It's like we've somehow lost the ability to distinguish between fiction and reality and regressed to the days of blaming violent video games for real world violence.

This may be strange to say, but I kinda miss the days when weebs got bullied for being nerds. Now, with normification of anime and nerd culture in general, these spaces have been infiltrated by the same kinds of people who once bullied nerds and weeks.

However, the bullying still persists but with our current social climate's emphasis on mental health, they started to get creative.
This means that everything must have a moralistic dimension. You don't just get called a loser for liking fanservice anime, you get called an evil loser because fanservice perpetuates unrealistic body types that give little girls eating disorders and drives them to depression and suicide. You are not just a weirdo for lolicon, you are a pedo who should get arrested.

The funny thing is that the folks who're obsessed with the ages of fictional characters come off as creepy to me.

And the projection is crazy. For example, my favorite Dragon Maid character is Kanna. And I view Kanna completely as a child, not even a loli. I mentioned this one time and some dude replied with "call the FBI" and started accusing me of being a pedo, even though I hadn't mentioned anything remotely sexual yet.

It's really not a strange thing to say. Tourists have caused a lot of damage to discourse in the anime community.

I got into an argument in a comment section the other day. I said since loli content is fictional, there shouldn't be laws against it and most of the moral grandstanding is unnecessary, despite how weird it actually is. I got called a weirdo for this stance.

Same argument was raging on X yesterday.

What do you guys think about loli characters in anime?

I see them the same way as any other character archetype. I have lolis among my favorite characters and characters I hate/dislike.

Is it problematic?

It's as problematic as violence in video games or anime. Funny how we don't see people condemning underage characters in fiction participating or suffering violence but you drop a beach episode and everyone loses their minds.

Are lolicons actually pedos?

There's probably some actual pedos in there but I wouldn't say that's a direct result of them being lolicons.

Should it be illegal despite it being fiction?

Absolutely not.

Is it just a weird preference? Is it not weird at all?

Depends on the person. Some make it seem weird and some don't. Might also have something to do with our perception of the person.

How does it compare to other taboo preferences like ryona and guro?

I'd put it on a similar level with ryona but tame when compared to guro.

To the best of my knowledge, no.

Spot's character arc in this movie was really paced well. Can't wait to see its culmination in the sequel.

Obviously not one to miss a performance by one of the most talented actresses of her generation. Can't wait to see how she interpreted and immersed the audience into her character's story. Might even be a contender for Best Actress at the awards.

Actually this is untrue, the main reason why Disney aren't making it in the box office is b cause this stories aren't good enough and they're not focusing on their central audience - parents esp. conservative parents who are beginning to antagonise and boycott Disney and Disney is trying to close their eyes to this reality🤦🏽‍♂️. Look at the Peter Pan remake last year- it costs 150 million dollars to make and it still was the worst film of 2022.

Or is Moana or Inside Out or even Wall E and others not originals? If Encanto was released for more than a month in theatres and on a mid budget, it wouldn't have flopped 🤷‍♂️.

Soul was released during the pandemic and Luca was taking directly to streaming, those were the only original movies that were actually good the rest have been woke, mid and budget has been off the roof. Another reason is streaming most people don't want to watch stuff in cinemas any more esp for Disney properties🧘‍♂️

Haven't seen Elemental yet but Raya and the Last Dragon and Turning Red were woke and mid? In what universe? What was woke about them?

Manga just refers to Japanese comic books. They're the major medium from which anime are adapted. The Hunter x Hunter manga is the source material from which the anime is adapted, and so is ahead of the anime in story.

It's also on hiatus (on pause) due to the mangaka's (writer) illness.
