This is the biggest problem I have with working from home.

Unfortunately it's something we got to live with.

I won't give up an excellent pay and flexibility because people can't understand or refuse to change their orientation.

For a techie like me, working from home has great advantages, since I get to work with a lot of smart peeps. I learn a lot on the job and I do what I love. Plus mine is structured.

However what I have learnt thus far is that you have to plan and stick to the plan. NO matter what. In my day to day tasks, I have learnt to start with a written plan, and then follow up. I have learnt to prioritize, and schedule properly.

Using my Google calendar helps me set time frames and reminders when I need to follow up with a customer and such.

If you don't organize your schedule you may burn out and suffer reduced performance.

I quite agree with your assertions on frustrations, but then it all depends on your personality. I keep very few friends, and I am free on weekends, no matter what I don't touch work on weekend except it's absolutely necessary. That's something I have learnt from my colleagues across the globe. If its not an emergency then let it be till the next business day, that's what my manager always tells me.

Again working from home is fantastic, but seriously it's not meant for everyone...

After i hastily made my intentions known to her, I was given those kind of funny attitude ladies display when not interested.

On a one on one discussion, she said she will not date me for two reasons. 1. because i am her boss and 2. because she has a boyfriend.

Okay, i totally respect her decision but i realized her attitude changed. She sometimes arrives late to work, flirt with my costumers to make me jealous. What i heard was this my employee i had crush on saying to me with boldness that i dont have to talk to her that way. I was shocked to my bone marrow that i ordered her to keep quit and leave my presence.

After i got home, i could not stop thinking about her rude bahaviour. I almost payed her off today but the sympathetic me decide to keep her till month end.

I believe it's wrong to date your subordinate, especially in this circumstance, but you did the honourable thing by letting her know how you really felt about her. One can find love anywhere and yours shouldn't be an exception.

Now to the present issues if the lady in question doesn't have enough common sense to not let your crush on her affect her attitude then, she should be given the same treatment you would give any other employee for the same offense.

Now to address this, you can take two steps. Call her privately and categorically point out her rudeness to you, make sure you record the convo, and let her know that you totally respect her decisions not to date you, but just as you respect her she should also give you the respect as her boss. Make sure you point out that you will fire her if this repeats itself. Then call a staff meeting and give a general talk about attitude and how they can improve their general work relationship.

You expressed your love as a gentleman, you should also deal with her attitude professionally. Managing people requires skill, and being tolerant and firm at the same time is a skill you need to develop.

And I thought you were going to advice them to face their studies and become something useful to themselves

Well be rest assured they will make you work for every dime, these guys don't joke around. The higher the pay the higher the pressure. Trust me things can get really tense at times. Good thing is once you get used to the system you might actually enjoy the pressure, becos it forces you to learn and you are given all the tools you need to perform.

Wish you all the best. Let's compare notes when you get in, switching to Aurea would be easy for me, I just love my current team. So I'll wait till next year before deciding on that....

For those interviewing with Aurea, please note that even though they are both part of the Trilogy group, their process might have some difference. It all depends on the CEO and management team. If you're on hold, then be relaxed. It's either you're on their waiting list or they may be pushing recruitment to early next year due to the holidays. Either way be prepared, for when they will call you.

@Kaycodes....I'm at the last stage of the recruitment process as at Nov 27...i.e Skype Interview but up till now no skype interview invite. Any idea what could have gone wrong? The role is for Customer Support Engineer.

That role is probably with Aurea, you can reach out to your hiring manager or whoever you have been in touch with. Just politely let them know you are waiting for the Skype interview invitation.

Basically, Versata recruits for 2 major positions that most Nigerians can fit into.

Yeah I know lots of peeps will be expecting inside information, sorry I can not share that. Blame employee confidentiality or any other issue.

Well let me answer some questions I have received via email and on this forum.

Are they legit?

Yes they are, this is not a get rich quick scheme company, this is a company that created a model that has given an IT support professionals outside the US an opportunity to live their dreams. You know how crappy customer service is in Nigeria, at Versata we have an entirely different model that ensures that the customer is the number one focus. So yeah you need good IT skills or at least a very well written CV to scale the selection process.


At versata, a well defined process is behind what we do and how we work, this means that you are guided every step of the way with documents and guidelines for you to follow.

Okay to the recruitment process, all you have to do is submit a CV that details your IT skills, then you get taken through a set of interview and challenges. depending on the role applied for.

If you successfully complete this phase, then you are invited for another round of HR interview by crossover, where you get to speak with a recruiter directly and get evaluated. However at this stage, you can be hopeful of getting in, but be prepared, as everything is not set in stone.

Then you receive a Paid trial week offer from them. You will be paid for taking the trial week, whether you advance or not.
During your trial week please do not try to cheat your way through in anyway. I didn't finish some questions, but I gave it my best.

Follow their process like your life depends on it, this is not time for Nigerian mentality and African man time. You will be working during US working hours, so get that into your schedule.

After your trial week, if you get an offer then congratulations, if not better luck next time.

Tips to getting through.

1. Your internet speed is very vital, ignore this at your own risk. You need a network that can offer you at least 2mbps minimum or please just stop the entire process.

2. Get a fast computer that can handle multiple browser tabs, invest in more RAM than processor.

3. Use either Chrome or firefox, internet explorer is not recommended by me.

4. During your trial week you will feel so alone, don't give up, it's all part of the test, the actual job is much more fun with colleagues from across the globe and some pretty smart folks with very impressive CV... my own dey learn for where dem dey.

Benefits

Yes they pay you every week, so you get what you work for.
No work No pay, so every hour you're not working is money lost. and you cannot work beyond a certain limit... make you nor go finish their money.

Extensive exposure to whatever software you are assigned to, with time to train and get better on the job.

When registering for payment the very first time, please take the bank option even if you don't have a Dorm account the money will be paid into your savings account. I suggest you use a bank like GTB. Avoid the Payoneer card even if you already have one.

With the bank option you get to wait an extra day or two before the money can reflect in your account, but it's much better as you can get a good rate for your USD when you sell them.

Payoneer card gives you the added advantage of withdrawing your money as soon as it hits your account, but you will incur more fees and ATM will convert your cash at a lower rate. Fidelity converted at N186 to 1USD when dollar was 245 on the parrallel market

So again avoid that card when dealing with crossover, don't say I didnt warn you, if you like make long throat do you.

In the past I have used Diamond Bank and GTB for inflows- to receive wires from Freelancer directly.

I changed to Standard Chartered last month. All up to this point I always got hit an additional $25, after Freelancer's own $25. Even with SCB.

With this last Payoneer method, charges was $20: $15 ( Payoneer). I'm not sure who took the extra $5.

On withdrawing, Diamond Bank used to charge me 1% of the amount, then I dropped them 2 years ago, for GTB.

GTB charges me 0.5%.

So far with SCB, I have not been charged for withdrawals.

Men am still looking for who is collecting that $20 sef .. Payoneer will never agree they are the ones, GTB will deny with their last breath.

Payoneer usually email me that the entire money was sent to my bank account. GTB credits me with the amount short $20
