easy with the way you call people 'liars' for sharing their stories and experiences.

Your sister's case may be different for certain reasons; that doesn't make her case the standard.

Different scenarios for different people.

I know people who went into MSc programs directly with HNDs too.

. . . and "a BSc is equivalent to an associates" ? How ? Where ? When ? Wh?? ?? ??
Where did you get this from ?
Foreign AffairsRe: Boundries And Oil by KayDee4: 5:03pm On Mar 14, 2013
Geo-political boundaries do not always define the start and end limits of natural resources.

The Chad Basin for eg. runs under Nigeria, Chad and Niger rep. The Rumaila oil field in southern Iraq extends in the sub-surface into Kuwait. (A dispute over this was one of the reasons for Iraqi invasion of kuwait and Gulf war1)

The Gulf of Guinea and North Sea territories for eg. belong to a host of different countries.

. . . and it doesn't always follow that, because oil is found in a region, it must therefore be present in adjacent regions. We have these things called 'traps' that confine these resources and limit their boundaries.
The thick pays from the (Agbada fm.) Niger Delta may not extend into neighbouring countries or only strecth in as pinch-outs with no commercial quantities of petroleum; no one wants to go there if its not 'big' enough.

NB: Oil has been discovered in commercial qties in Ghana.

. . . . and while we're on this issue, can the Nigerian consulates and NIS update their websites pls.
They have some procedural information on these websites and when you call for more details or even waste your time and money traveling to a consulate location, they tell you the info is wrong and you should disregard what you saw on their website. undecided undecided

For faster response, please direct all email regarding passports & visas to the related department at consgen@nigeria-consulate-atl.org
After about 3 months, I'm still waiting for a reply to an e-mail I sent; fast indeed.
PoliticsRe: Foreign Degree & The Nigerian Mentality by KayDee4:
Not only the drilling aspect.
and data acquisition , etc . . . . .

Like I said before, it depends on the level of risk the employer is willing to take, i don't see MNCs outsourcing jobs for positions that require 'critical' decision making.

*that is not to say that drilling engineers and others who work for servicing firms are not professionals, they are top professionals through and through and are good at what they do*
PoliticsRe: Foreign Degree & The Nigerian Mentality by KayDee4:
Yet, most work done in that regard are contracted out to third-party companies, NO??
Yeah, contracted for the drilling aspect, all the drilling contractors have to do is follow orders and monitor progress. But who decides where to drill which is the million dollar treasure spot? in house professionals who are not GCE holders.

*re-visiting*

eermmmm , actually, NO !! cos that's not the point I was tryin to make.
They only accept MSc(s) or higher into those positions because they don't think you learn all that's required for the job from your Bachelors program.
PoliticsRe: Foreign Degree & The Nigerian Mentality by KayDee4: 8:13pm On Mar 07, 2013
Is that completely true? Name one department Mobil doesn't employ BSc holders. What do you mean by as pros?
Geosciences.
*professionals*

If they do, you will be a contract staff.

Dunno if its changed in Nigeria but its still the same here in the US. Chevron US wont even look at BSc degrees from their own US schools.

coogar: come to the UK, i will take you to aberdeen and meet engineers who never stepped foot in any uni and are managing big time projects. they are the ones that would even decide what you should earn on a daily basis! are you kidding me?
I'm sure they are well experienced.

coogar: i doubt you make as much as the ones in the top 10 with your "reputable" petroleum engineering job! don't argue with logic - anyone that has a GCE certificate can/will do your job even better than you.
GCE ke !! If it's backed by years of valuable relevant experience.

Depends on the level off risk the employer is willing to take, you can choose to employ misfits that will play trial and error with your business or you employ people who know what to do to get good results even if they are tossed into the deep end.

There's a reason Exxon doesn't employ BSc holders (as pros.) into some departments, it has to be an MSc or higher. Hundreds of millions of dollars per well drilled no be beans - no 'dry holes' allowed.

PoliticsRe: Foreign Degree & The Nigerian Mentality by KayDee4: 7:03pm On Mar 07, 2013
If less than 10% of Nigerian graduates alive have ever been affected by University strikes then it means over 90% of Nigerian graduates went to private universities cos in my era, all federal and state schools went on strike like no man's business.

I spent over 1 year (cummulative) on the sidelines due to strikes.
Yeah, a little bit of exaggeration for the sake of this banter cool. . . but on thesame length, I haven't met any fresh university graduate, straight from school that can interpret 3D or 4D seismic data without further on the job training.
Look harder, you will find them. cool cool

On-the-job training only serves to sharpen your skills in that area but you have to know the basics first.

cos Liverpool is the most recent case study; an example of one that fell off and can't seem to get back up. Times have changed and it's getting tighter at the top, if we drop out, we may get lucky and crawl right back into it or we may stay down for a veryyyyyyyy long time. Who knows.

naijababe: @kaydee, the only thing that's gonna change the status quo is rock bottom and I mean serious rock bottom like coming 7th or worse. With no champs league revenue and missing bums at the Emirates maybe the diabolic due of Satan Kroenke (copyright Debo) and Angina bloody Wonker will effing get the message. I had no problems with the Ijebu policy when the stadium was being built, prudence really was required but now I just don't get it.
naijababe: I have heard this argument from my hubby many times, shame the folks at the helms appear to be bent on reaching rock bottom before doing what is needed. What's the worst that would happen? We, the fans will continue in our 'payinkeke' as DK would say and the club will continue in its downward spiral until Satan Kroenke decides to cash out and the Liverpool situation which we so badly want to avoid will confront us.
Lol @ "Satan Kroenke"; was that a typo abi na so you hate the guy reach ?

Babe !! there's no guarantee that 'rock-bottom' will budge the shameless board. All wenger and his croonies have to do is keep lowering the standard to satisfy their ambitions. If we fail to qualify, the new story oozing from the boardroom then becomes "we don't have as much money as before and we don't have CL football so we can't attract quality players".

Now, our trophy is 4th place/a UCL spot *unfortunately* angry sad and I'll rather hold on to that while hoping for a change than throw it all away and maybe, cross the point of no return like the Scousers on Anfield road. At least with UCL footie, we can still deceive convince some 'top' players to come join us grin grin .

Who even defines what the rock-bottom status is ?
There was a time coming 4th would have been considered abysmal rock-bottom situation by Arsenal fans but today, it's a trophy. *In Arsene we rust* grin grin

Abeg make una no pray bad prayer for Arsenal before we find ourselves swimming in relegation waters searching for rock-bottom or bottom rock grin .
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by KayDee4: 3:02pm On Mar 06, 2013
Abeg, all of una wey dey wish for a finish outside the top 4, be kiafull' with your wishes o. As much as I want to see changes, I don't want to have it catalysed by relegation to Thursday night football; tufia !! I can't possibly cope with that. What if we get there and get stuck like Liverpool who still can't climb out of the bucket despite all the money spent and coaches recycled.

And who ever said our europa league predicarment guarantees a spending spree, I suspect Wenger will just set that as his new low-standard, yearly target/trophy -playing in 'Europe' (UCL and Europa, all na Europe). That man is just mysteriously unpredictable.

And even more mysterious to me is , what exactly Wenger does in the dugout :
- He doesn't seem to watch or read games from there (I don't see how a coach watching his team play could have subbed Jenks on Sunday or Rosicky against Blackburn)
- He doesn't dish out instructions that much from the touchline, even when his players are goofing around.

Midfield held it down on Sunday, strikers Theo and Giroud didn't show up and defenders were just horrible. SMH for Vermaelen - Captain and commander-in-chief of the defence.
