PoliticsSheriff Wanted To Be President, Promised 4 Governors VP, So We Sacked Him by kcmichael(op): 3:56pm On May 23, 2016
The crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) assumed a new dimension yesterday as governors under the platform of the party, dumped Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff as the national chairman of the party.
This happened as elders of the party under the aegis of Concerned PDP Stakeholders Forum, led by Prof Jerry Gana, held a parallel national convention in Abuja.
According to an inside source, the governors’ decision to dump
the embattled national chairman, who they had earlier rallied support for, was the aftermath of a discovery that Sheriff, who is nursing a presidential ambition in 2019, had promised four governors the vice president position.
LEADERSHIP Sunday gathered that
Sheriff’s game caught up with him when the 12 governors elected on the platform of the party upon arrival in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Friday, realised that he (Sheriff) had been talking to four of them, namely; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Enugu State governor; Dave Umahi, Ebonyi State governor, Ayo Fayose, Ekiti State governor and Nyesom Wike, Rivers State governor, and had promised each of them that they would be his running mate in 2019 when he gets the party’s ticket to run the presidential election.
The party had earlier zoned the 2019 presidential candidate to the north. The governors were said to have at this point, asked Sheriff to excuse them, while they went into a meeting with former governors who were also in Port Harcourt for the convention. At the end of the meeting which lasted till 5am on Saturday, Sheriff was nowhere to be found but the meeting had resolved that he be removed as party chairman and a caretaker committee to be composed of representatives of the six geopolitical zones be formed, to oversee the affairs of the party for 90 days

Politics2019 : Wike's Vice Presendential Ambition Destabilize PDP by kcmichael(op): 3:42pm On May 23, 2016
The 2019 Vice Presidential ambition of the Rivers State Governor Barr Nyesom Wike has contributed to disorganize and destabilize the Opposition Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) as evidently seen on Saturday May 21 2016
Sacked National Chairman of the Party Senator Ali Modu Sheriff had promised Governor Nyesom Wike that he will pick him as his running mate if he (Wike) helps him to secure the Party's Presidential Ticket
It was on this agreement that Governor Nyesom Wike against all odds put his weight behind Senator Ali Modu Sheriff against the wishes of the Founding Elders of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP),which made the Party to choose Portharcourt as the Venue of the 2016 National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party
While the Portharcourt was going on ,elders of the party under the aegis of Concerned PDP Stakeholders Forum, led by Prof Jerry Gana, held a parallel national convention in Abuja
Governor Nyesom Wike and 11 other governors elected on the platform of the party on Friday, realised that he (Sheriff) had been talking to four of them, namely; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Enugu State governor; Dave Umahi, Ebonyi State governor, Ayo Fayose, Ekiti State governor and Nyesom Wike, and had promised each of them that they would be his running mate in 2019 when he gets the party’s ticket to run the presidential election.
The governors were said to have at this point, asked Sheriff to excuse them, while they went into a meeting with former governors who were also in Port Harcourt for the convention. At the end of the meeting which lasted till 5am on Saturday, Sheriff was nowhere to be found but the meeting had resolved that he be removed as party chairman and a caretaker committee to be composed of representatives of the six geopolitical zones be formed, to oversee the affairs of the party for 90 days.
Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike while justifying his action and that of his colleagues explained that the party had to let Former Acting National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff go because his leadership was destabilising the party.
"This is destabilising the party and so we had to let him go. What is important is the party and not the individual. No sacrifice is too much for anyone to make as far as PDP is concerned ".he Stated

He stated that all Niger Delta governors oppose the use of violence to settle grievances, pointing out that the governors are billed to meet with the Vice President on 7th of June, 2016 to discuss and proffer solutions to the security situation in the region.
Speaking on Monday at the Government House, Port Harcourt when he granted audience to the Country’s Military High Command led by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin, Governor Wike said : "What's happening affects our state revenue. We shall help the military to fish out militants blowing up oil pipelines in the region "
The Chief of Defence Staff was accompanied by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Buratai, Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas and the Chief of Air Staff , Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar.
The governor said that the State Government is worried about the resurgence of militancy in the Niger-Delta as it negatively affects development in the area.

"There are ways to channel grievances and it is wrong to do what will negatively affect the people of the region. ".
He assured the Military High Command that the Government and people of Rivers State will support efforts to secure the area.
While commending the military for the sacrifice they have made in providing security for most parts of the state, he urged them to work towards improving security in Ahoada East, Ahoada West, Abua/Odual and Ogba/Egbema /Ndoni Local Government Areas of the state.
Earlier, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin said the recent resurgence of militancy in the Niger-Delta is of serious concern to the military.
"Recent activities of the militants have led to the sabotage of oil and gas infrastructure", he said.
He said economy of the nation is threatened by the resurgent militancy, hence the need to stop the insecurity in the region.
General Olonisakin urged the Rivers State Governor to reach out to his colleagues in the Niger Delta to resolve the conflicts in the area.

PoliticsI Have Lost Confidence In Present INEC - Wike by kcmichael(op): 9:08am On May 18, 2016
Rivers State Governor Barrister Nyesom Wike yesterday declared that he has lost confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, because according to him the commission is too inconsistent, as it works to promote the interest of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State.
Speaking during his appearance on Channels Television Sunrise Daily on Tuesday broadcast from Port Harcourt , Governor Wike said that any plot by INEC to impose candidates on Rivers People will be resisted
The governor explained that in Rivers State, the APC has used INEC to generate tension by attempting to manipulate the electoral process for 8 local government areas where INEC had already cancelled elections during the March 19, 2015 rerun elections in the State
He said that it was unfortunate that INEC has set a committee to review already cancelled elections which will lead to avoidable crisis.
Governor Wike recalled that the APC after the March 19 rerun elections issued statements calling for the cancellation of the elections, but pointed out that the same APC has made a u-turn by approaching the election tribunal to declare her candidates winners. He regretted that INEC has tacitly supported APC by refusing to file defence for the declared results at the election tribunals.
He said the rerun elections in Rivers State has proved that money cannot win elections as the ruling party had access to loads of money which made no impact.

PoliticsWike: Amaechi, others Must Consult Me Before Coming To Rivers State by kcmichael(op): 7:39am On May 18, 2016
Governor of Rivers State Barrister Nyesom Wike has declared that any Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria coming to Rivers State must first of all take permission from him before coming to the state to avoid any security breakdown
"A Minister coming to my State should consult me to avoid security breakdown, but you see some of them coming without letting me know, that's the dirty politics they play"
Governor Nyesom Wike made this Statement while speaking as a guest on Channels Television Sunrise Daily Tuesday Morning in Abuja
The Governor said the action of some Ministers including the Former Governor of the State and current Minister of Transportation Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is not acceptable because as the Chief Security officer of Rivers State,he ought to know who is visiting the state from Abuja
The governor also said that he has lost confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, because the commission is too inconsistent, as it works to promote the interest of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State
Governor WIKE said for instance that the Minister of Environment, Hon Mrs Amina Mohammed would just call her party men, fly into Rivers State without him the Chief Security Officer of the state knowing.

CelebritiesNollywood Actress Bares Breast In New Movie, Claims She Is A Devout Christain by kcmichael(op): 10:50am On Apr 22, 2016
A few weeks after photos of bare-breasted actresses from the set of an epic movie, hit the internet upcoming actresses Peace Maria Francis has defended their act, saying it was all about the profession.
In an exclusive interview with Nollywood Insider ,Peace, who hails from Akwa Ibom state appealed to her fans and movie enthusiasts
“Show me love and appreciation, and not condemnation. This is about my profession and I want to express myself better as it should be done, in my acting career.”“My manager got it for me. He told me about the job and I agreed to take part in it. I wasn’t forced to do it.
It is all because I wanted to use it to tell the real story of what happened back then in our country, Nigeria. It is also in a bid to tell our younger ones how we started back then, and the only way to do that, is to express it in a professional manner. That is what I am in the industry to do; tell people the real story and interpret such roles very well, for their better understanding and enjoyment.”” As a professional actor I do take risk. For I take enormous pride when people call me an actor. This means and shows how serious I take my job. It is a sign of the sacrifice and effort I put in it to make my acts have some sense of reality, while sending good messages to our people, “
She continued
“I am a Christian, for crying out loud. I fear God and worship him as best as I can. But would that stop me from doing my job? I think that shouldn’t.Some ask how much I was paid to expose my body like that. Others want to know ask why I did it. They say I am desperate and a paid prostitute.
All I want them to know is that I am just a good actor, who takes her job with the seriousness it deserves. I only played the character given to me and interpret the role well. I’m not here for fame or money. I really love my job. I do it professionally. I went into acting because I love it. That’s the only thing I do that gives me joy. I am here to make a difference. It’s about my passion.”
She summed it up, saying,
“Let the world know that it is not easy for anyone to come out and change his or her identity, in order to make films look real. The world should be more supportive than criticising us.
They always want Nollywood to give them good movies but if there are no good actors, there would be no good movie. Why are Nigerians not watching Nollywood movies again and prefer Mexican and Hollywood films? Is it not because they are tired of what we act and produce? Yes. They feel we are lacking behind. This is what we are trying to correct and save our dying film industry. Here, I promise my fans, that I would not disappoint them. It is not about S*X but good acting

PoliticsMetuh Fails In Fresh Bid To Delay Trial by kcmichael(op): 6:54am On Apr 21, 2016
The Spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh failed again on Wednesday in the latest attempt to delay proceedings in his trial before the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Justice Okon Abang declined to hear a fresh objection brought by the new lawyer he engaged for his company, Destra Investment Limited, Tochukwu Onwugbufor (SAN).
Metuh and Destra Investment Limited are being tried for allegedly receiving N400 million unlawfully from the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, and for allegedly engaging in money laundering of about $2million.
A group of lawyers had jointly represented Metuh and his company since the commencement of the case late last year.
But mid-way into the trial and after the prosecution had closed its case, having called eight witnesses, Onwugbufor was introduced as the new lawyer to represent Destra Investment Limited.
Onwugbufor informed the court about the new objection he filed challenging the court’s jurisdiction to try two of the charges filed against his client.
He said since count one and two in the charge questioned the rationale behind the payment of the N400 million into the bank account of Destra Investment Limited without contract award, the court lacks jurisdiction to hear the charges, adding that they were not covered by Section 251(1) of the Constitution.
The prosecution lawyer, Sylvanus Tahir, objected to the hearing of the application.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Wednesday swore in the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the violence / killings that negatively affected the March 19 rerun legislative elections, with a charge to the commission to get to the root of the matter.
The governor also on Wednesday swore in Mr Ugbana Isaruk as a Commissioner in the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC. Mr Isaruk replaces a late member of the commission.
Swearing in the members of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry under the chairmanship of Justice Monima Wenike Danagogo, Governor Wike decried the violence witnessed during the rerun elections, saying that it was necessary to ascertain the root causes with a view to checking a recurrence in the future.
He charged the Judicial Commission of Inquiry to identify those involved in the killings, those killed and the scope of violence during the elections.
The governor also charged the Judicial Commission of Inquiry to identify property damaged in the course of the violence and the owners of such property.
He urged the Chairman of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry to use his experience to guide other members towards making necessary recommendations that will enhance political stability and peace in the state.
He said : "The commission has one month beginning today to submit its report. We must know those involved in the violence and killings.
"We must get to the root of the violence and killings during the March 19 rerun elections. Since we were not at the location of the violence, we rely on the Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate what took place ".
To the new member of RSIEC, the governor advised him to join other members of the commision to deliver credible elections.
Responding, Justice Monima Wenike Danagogo assured the governor that the commission will work without fear or favour.
