topnewsbaba: Human rights’ lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, who is defending the 12 detained associates of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, has given the Department of State Services 48 hours to release them in line with the court order that granted them bail.
The DSS has continued to hold the activists in an underground cell despite perfecting their bail conditions.
Olajengbesi, while addressing journalists at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, gave the Director-General of the service 48 hours to fully obey and comply with the release order of the court in favour of all 12 detained associates of Igboho or face contempt proceedings before a court.
The human rights’ lawyer said the refusal of the DSS to honour a clear order of court, though habitual, was not only worrisome but an affront on the authority of the court and the country’s judicial system.

He said, “It has become imperative and urgent to make this brief address in light of the vindictive and oppressive conduct of the State Security Service in the matter involving 12 detained associates of Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, aka Igboho.
“In the wee hours of the 1st of July, 2021, a joint team of men from the State Security Service (SSS) and the Nigerian military, with neither lawful cause nor a warrant of arrest, broke into the Ibadan home of the Yoruba Nation activist popularly known as Sunday Igboho and extra-judicially murdered two of his associates while rounding up, bounding and abducting 12 others to be incarcerated without cause in the dungeons of the SSS where they continue to languish without reprieve to this day.
“All 12 detainees who were immediately subjected to degrading conditions of detention and torture were denied access to their lawyers by the SSS up until the intervention of the court through an order recognising and re-emphasizing the detainees’ right to legal representation against whatever allegations against them. “Regrettably and indeed unacceptably, while no charges, in full or tentatively, have been preferred against all 12 detainees, the SSS have failed and refused to honour an order of court which granted bail to and ordered the release of all twelve detainees upon the perfection of the terms of their bail which have now been fully satisfied and duly communicated to the SSS.
“The refusal of the SSS to honour a clear order of court, though habitual, is not only worrisome and unacceptable but is an affront on the authority of the court and our entire judicial system. Such blatant disregard for, and contemptuous, spiteful and insolent disrespect of an order of court if allowed to fester would undermine the very integrity of the court and breed even newer levels of rascality by STATE AGENTS. It would also amount to surrendering the freedom and rights of all twelve detainees to the whims and caprices of an agency that has gone rogue and thrives in wilful disobedience of court orders.
7victor: I am lecturing in the north and I can authoritatively say that northern students respect their lecturers and no lecturer would feel the need to discipline any student, since they are all respectful.
The only group of people who don't respect lecturers are southern female students studying in the north.
When I started lecturing up north,I discovered that anytime there is expulsion of students, southern girls must be among those expelled.
I thought that the hausa lecturers just hated our girls, not until I started observing how rude southern girls are, to the extent that some lecturers are always looking for any opportunity to get back at them.

Lecturers know this, that is why they are very strict on the females, because they believe females look down on them.
Most males,if given the chance would like to be lecturers, that is why males generally are not rude towards lecturers.
I heard that the reason females look down on lecturers is the belief that lecturers run after women.
Because of the faulty belief that lecturers are always running after women, that is why it is a taboo for a female student to identify with a lecturer.
Hausa females, do not look down on lecturers because hausa people, generally, respect their lecturers, leaders and teachers.

STATEMENT CONCERNING SAMUEL ORTOM, THE GOVERNOR OF BENUE STATE
Governor Samuel Ortom has few political principles. We can see this from the fact that he has changed political party five times during his undistinguished career.
Every time he feels the wind may be blowing in a certain direction, he follows it.
Unfortunately, for the good citizens of Benue State, the most dangerous direction he blows in today is that of sectarianism and ethnicity.
In an attempt to boost his sinking political fortunes, Ortom takes the cheapest and lowest route possible by playing on ethnic themes – and in doing so knowingly causes deaths of innocent Nigerians by inciting farmers against herders, and Christians against Muslims.
Specifically, Ortom stirs up hatred by targeting one single ethnic group in Nigeria – using language reminiscent of the Rwandan genocide.
As was the case in Rwanda where the then Hutu leaders of the country incited their countrymen against each other, claiming there was a “secret Tutsi agenda” over the Hutu, Ortom claims there is a “secret Fulanization agenda” over other ethnic groups in his state and in Nigeria. This is a copy of the language of Hutu Power - which falsely, and intentionally, accused the Rwandan Tutsi of plans to dominate the country.
This wicked talk is aimed at giving cover to his so-called “policy” on the Ranches Establishment Law – which in reality is purely an act of denial of the law - intended to withhold rights and freedoms from one ethnic group alone, whilst inciting race hatred against them amongst all others.
These are not the actions of a man who should be trusted with running public services or holding public office.
For the governor of a major state in Nigeria to be politically driven by ethnic hatred is a stain on our country.
The good, and fair-minded people of Benue State deserve more than this, and we look forward to the next elections when they have an opportunity to restore its greatness.

I asked my friend in Jos to update me on the true situation in Plateau state. At times what we read on social media could be vastly different from on-ground situation.
This is his account of what happened. a) About 2 wks ago, a group of KFH/militia/ bandits invaded the Irigwe kingdom in Plateau, killed and maimed scores of them, destroyed hecters of farmland and burnt over 150 houses. Soldiers were reported to have stood by and did nothing to stop the carnage when the irigwe chief ask for their help, because according to them they were not ordered to intervene. The people were left to lick their wounds alone.
b) The people now decided to bury their dead last Saturday.
c) On the way to the burial site some vehicles appeared and were heading towards the same site…one of the vehicles was carrying a coffin.
d) The convoy was intercepted and the people were questioned. Most of them could not even speak Hausa and couldn’t explain why they were in that area but only said they were following instructions. Apparently, they were foreign militia.
e) The coffin they carried was forced open and lo and behold, a heap of sophisticated weapons was discovered in the casket. That was when the locals knew that they were on a mission to kill those who would attend their mass burial. f) The locals turned on them and started killing them. About 25 of them were killed and as many more injured. While some of them escaped.
g) The locals went away with their weapons and this did not go down well with their sponsors.
h) The narrative being put out there that a group of innocent Muslims from Ondo State who went to Bauchi for an Islamic festival and on their way back to Ikare in Ondo State were intercepted in Jos and were brutally massacred is therefore to mislead Nigerians.
i) The survivors were interviewed and they said they were not from Ondo State and when the list of those killed was released, there was no Yoruba man there. They were all Fulani. The governor of Ondo State has come out to say that no Yoruba was killed in Jos to debunk the narratives of the govt’s spokesperson.
j) The introduction of the Ondo angle to the story is to create a wedge between the Yoruba and the Middle Belt people now that there is a working relationship between the South and the Middle Belt people….using the same old ‘divide and rule’ tactics.
