ahimedua:
Drama in the University of Benin students on Tuesday as there was a shut down of academic activities at the university.

The angry students occupied the gate in large number to protest against hike in their tuition fees.

The students, who alleged that the institution’s spokesman told them to go into prostitution to pay their fees, gathered at the school main gate, carrying placards with different inscriptions, such as 'Madam VC wants to milk us dry', 'Salami wants us to do cash out', 'UNIBEN VC Salami is after my sanity as a student', and many more.

UNIBEN had earlier announced that students who did not pay school fees within the stipulated time would have to pay extra charges and might have their studentship withdrawn.

The statement signed by the school public relations officer, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire had noted that “registration by all students closes on 3rd September, 2021; and after such date, students will no longer have access to the school portal.”

— Sahara Reporters (@SaharaReporters) September 14, 2021

In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, Students were seen in hundreds at the school main gate, with a voice underneath singing "Uniben students we are under pressure, Aunty Lilian please pity us."

“The UNIBEN that we have been managing, when it gets to Aunty Lilian's turn, she said it's N20,000. Na Wah oo! We need help.

"Currently happening in Benin, everywhere is filled up with students Protesting for their rights.

"Students of University of Benin are very displeased with the act of their Vice Chancellor," one of the protesters said.

According to a source, the students previously were paying N14,000 as tuition. It was increased in the 2017/2018 academic session by the authorities to N41,400.

The University management led by the Vice-Chancellor, Lilian Salami, increased again at the resumption of the ongoing academic session, the fees from N41,400 to N45,000. sleekgist

However less than a month later, the fees were again hiked with an increment of N20,000, bringing the total fees to N65,000 for both students in the Art and Sciences.

The newly admitted students are asked to pay N90,000, a sum considered to be outrageous by the students.

"These insensitive hikes are consistent despite the fact that students have several other fees the institution imposes on them. Some of these compulsory fees include: Faculty dues, Department dues, Course registration and many more.

"The management of the institution claims it does not officially sell handouts, its lecturers coerce students to pay for same," the source revealed. sleekgist.com

Romance › Re: Addictions: Which Is Hardest To Quit? Sex, Masturbation, Drinking, Smoking Etc? by Kdon2: 4:20pm On Sep 14, 2021
Ohthinktwice:
I had this conversation with some of my neighbors (three men) on which addiction was hardest to quit of womanizing, drinking and smoking.

My view was that it was womanizing, but they saw things differently from me and said it was smoking. They said it was easy to quit womanizing once the time for quitting comes, but the addiction to smoking was something else.

I had never smoked a cigarette or the likes before so I couldn't tell how difficult if was to quit, but I had a friend who was once a chain smoker, but once he repented and surrendered his life to God, that was it. The urge died instantly! It was so weird that a friend of his who knew him very well, said if my friend could quit smoking, that he also could quit the habit, because he knew how deep my friend had gone into it, that he himself was like a learner in the act.

That was perhaps what gave me the impression that it may not be that hard to quit the habit but my neighbors begged to differ.

I expect that there are others who may see things differently from us, because I know and have had of people who drink to the point that they become seriously ill but are still not able to quit.

Some others it's addiction to sex or masturbation that has made them to become depressed to the point of wanting to commit suicide, because they find it impossible to quit even if they know it's destroying their lives.

Hard drugs is another strong one which has held many in serious bondage, as some go to extreme lengths to pacify the urge. One married woman started paying for it with her body, by having sex with the supplier, after she had wasted all her life savings on it and no longer had money to pay for it.

Hence it appears that it differs from person to person, as an addiction someone finds hard to quit might be easy for someone else, and vice versa, but what do you think it?

Stankovic22:
Good evening nairalanders!

This is what happened. A friend of mine who is like a brother to me and has impacted my life positively in every way bought a new car. We work together and live in the same neighborhood so we go-to work together.

It happens that I do sit in front with him always while the third guy stays at the back. So today, on our way back from work, the wife called for him to come pick her and when we got close and stuck in traffic, I decided to vacate the front seat and move to join the other guy at the back but while trying to go my friend was like guy where u dey go... I say I wan create space for Iyawo and he was like Wetin dey worry u, sit down jor but I insisted and went to the back.

So when we beat the traffic and picked up the wife she was like why is the front seat vacant and my friend said... He left the seat for u... The wife was like, please its wrong, that I shouldn't have left.

I was like its your space and I felt it was the right thing to do, to join my other guy at the back before we get to you.

People was I wrong to have vacated the seat?

Five Nigerian Activists who Championed the Free Sheikh Zakzaky Campaign

As we celebrate the historic court victory of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, we should remember five (5) prominent Nigerian Activists that gave their everything for his freedom.

Their Names:

1) Professor Chidi OdinKalu @ChidiOdinkalu
2)Deji Adeyanju @adeyanjudeji
3) Ndi Kato @YarKafanchan
4) Dr. John Danfulani @john_danfulani
5) Omoyele Sowore @YeleSowore

The Daily Sit-in protest that Activist Deji Adeyanju and his Concerned Nigeria group organized at the Unity Fountain in Abuja was a turning point in the struggle for Free Sheikh Zakzaky campaign. Members of the Movement, Sheikh Abdulrahman Yola, Dr. Shuaibu Musa and Hajj Gamawa were constantly and consistently present at the Unity Fountain.

Sister Ndi, Deji and Danfulani were regularly present in peaceful #FreeZakzaky, Ashura procession and Arbaeen Walk. In some of these programs and activities, heavily-armed soldiers and police came out shooting with live ammunition.

It is important to note that these 5 Activists are Christians but they stood with Truth and Justice despite the fact that they received death threats on multiple occasions. President Buhari's Elite presidential guard commander bluntly told Deji Adeyanju that "Shiites are infidels (so they should be slaughtered)".

On all their multiple social media platforms they were daily active for the freedom of Sheikh Zakzaky and justice for victims of the #ZariaGenocide. They used their money to fund all their activism for this Just cause.

In the African tradition, I kneel and say 'Thank You"!. God will reward you abundantly.

Zikojukwu:
Fulani killer herdsmen have been angry that igbos used their wisdom to return peace to Imo state. They want Imo to be like north where they kill unchecked. Being disappointed, they are creating fake videos, fake news and fake alarms to cause bloodshed in Imo but Igbos are very wise. We will never allow Fulani killer herdsmen anywhere around Igbo land. We have seen their work in plateau, Benue, Kaduna, Zamfara and the entire north. They won't use Hope or any loafer to cause problems or kill our people. Shame to those who want to cause bloodshed because of simple call for referendum. You pee when you hear referendum perhaps you will pass out when Igbos leave Nigeria. Unity beggars will understand soon that Igbo will not share a country where life is worthless, where sponsors of terrorism are being shielded and killer herdsmen sack and kill without arrest or trial. We want a home where no killer Fulani will invade and start killing our children. We have seen it in the north, it won't happen in Igbo land. That is what we Igbos agreed.
May God answer this prayers. Amen

jesusjnr2020:
The days are really evil!

A friend of mine who resides in Lagos recently narrated his close-shave experience in a human body parts market.

He was trying to get some school stuff for his children before the schools reopened, and had contacted his customer for this purpose.

On his way to the market, somewhere in Lekki area according to him, while trying to locate his customer, he entered into a street thinking he was heading in the right direction, but he noticed that once he stepped into that street, he started feeling really awkward and was no longer his usual self. And as he continued walking down, someone came to him and asked him which one he wanted, but he couldn't understand what the person meant, however he replied that he was there to meet somebody.

Another guy walked up to him and asked him a similar question, but this time was more descriptive, however he couldn't still grasp fully what was going on and still told him the same thing, that he was there to see a friend.

It was after the next person came and I think asked him if it was the eye or ear he wanted, that it then dawned on him that he had actually stepped into a forbidden zone in the market where they sold human body parts!

It now began to make sense the awkward feeling he began having immediately after stepping into that zone, so it was now for him to figure out how to get himself out of the zone before they noticed that he was actually a stranger who missed his way, and not a human parts costumer as they had assumed him to be.

So he tried using phone calls made to his friend to confuse them, but he said that as he was making his way back, they were yet watching him closely to figure out who he was and what he was really about.

That was how he managed and then finally got himself to the end of the street, and it was only after he stepped out of it, that he said, he immediately got back himself.

After finally locating his friend, his worst fears were confirmed. He was told that he was very lucky to have gotten out of that street alive, because for strangers who mistakingly step into that zone, that's usually their last... They would be forcefully taken and butchered without much fuzz, and their body parts would be added to the ones already there for sale.

The human body parts market was called "Jankara", and my friend kept saying that it was only God who saved him otherwise he would have become history.

For those who still doubt the existence of such human body parts markets in reality, I hope it doesn't happen to you first before you believe, because the days are really evil and the hearts of men are desperately wicked.

Thank God my friend was fortunate to have made it out alive but not many live to tell their own story.

Here's the video of someone else's who was fortunate to make it out alive from another dreadful place, somewhere in Rivers State where human body parts were being sold.

I need matured inputs please.

I am a married woman, with a child.

My Marriage has been really rocky. Quarrels every now and then.

What basically causes the problems is our differences, we just don’t understand each other, it wasn’t so visible during dating.

Although we did not date for long....but being married, it has been from one issue to the other, right from a week after our wedding.

I have always contemplated leaving, but I am yet to be fully independent.

Sometime this year, I found out he has been cheating (I was not surprised, but I was heart-broken) my discovery strengthened my resolve to leave the union.

In the process of nursing my heartbreak, I reconnected with an ex, we got talking and he helped my heal. I did not tell him what I was going through at the time...I was just enjoying the attention he was showing me.

I should state that I did not tell my husband about his cheating, I held all the emotions back, it was a very difficult period for me because I am usually the outspoken type.

My ex is not based in the country where me and my husband reside, we just communicate on phone, he says he misses me and would want us to meet when he is in town.

I should also state that my ex was married but divorced.

I would not deny my having feelings for my ex, and I also do not want to believe in a fairytale ending, I am just confused.
You don't love him. You are just looking for excuse to leave all the while. That is the gospel truth

Business › Re: Nobody Can Accuse Me Of Corruption – Buhari by Kdon2: 9:48am On Sep 10, 2021
Abel7777:
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday said he has kept himself free of corrupt acquisitions, hence no one can accuse him of corruption.

Mr Buhari made this assertion at a town hall meeting with leaders of the South-East region in Imo.

The president made the claim despite reports of corruption by his aides and close associates, who remain unconvicted.

The president also touched on other issues pertinent to the Igbos.

‘‘If there is no security, there is nothing anyone can do no matter how much you try or the initiative you have.

‘‘Security is number one priority and then the economy. When people feel secure they will mind their own business,’’ he said.

The President told South-East leaders that while fighting corruption in Nigeria had become very sophisticated and difficult, he would continue to strive to leave a lasting legacy of integrity and accountability in the system.

‘‘Nobody can accuse me of having companies or mansions anywhere in the country and I thank God that I try to keep myself as clean as possible, so that I cannot be taken hostage.

‘‘I will do my best to ensure that Nigerians that try hard, succeed in their efforts,’’ he said.

On the forthcoming 2023 elections, the President reaffirmed his commitment to free, fair and credible polls, urging the leaders to honestly educate their constituencies on the need to hold their elected representatives accountable.

Acknowledging the resourcefulness and enterprising spirit of Igbo people, the President said:

‘‘The fundamental thing about the Igbo people is that there is no town you will visit in Nigeria without seeing the Igbos being in-charge of either infrastructure or pharmaceutical industry.

‘‘Therefore, it is unthinkable for me that any Igbo man would consider himself not to be a part of Nigeria.

‘‘The evidence is there for everyone to see that Igbos are in charge of Nigeria’s economy.’’

Noting that no country can make any meaningful progress without the development of infrastructure, the President expressed regret that successive governments at the Federal level contributed to the decay of critical infrastructure in the country.

He promised that the Federal Government would complete ongoing key projects in the South East, including the 2nd Niger Bridge as well as the railway lines and routes linking the region with other parts of the country.

‘‘I firmly believe that when you get infrastructure right, Nigerians will mind their own businesses,’’ he said, adding that as a group, the Igbos stand to benefit more from the ongoing development of infrastructure in the country because ‘‘they are more enterprising.’’

President Buhari had earlier commissioned four projects executed by Governor Hope Uzodinma, including the Naze/Ihiagwa/Nekede/Obinze link road, the Balloon Driven/Flood Control drainage at Dick Tiger Road, the Egbeada Bypass road and the New Exco-Chambers, Government House, Owerri.

Addressing Imo residents at the commissioning of Egbeada bypass named after a prominent son of the State, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President said he was very impressed with the level of work done by the State government.

‘‘I am very pleased with what I have seen and I assure you that I will support Imo State within the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,’’ he said.

In his remarks at the town hall meeting, Governor Uzodinma said Ndigbo believe in a united Nigeria predicated on ‘‘justice, equity and fairness.’’

He thanked the President for addressing the interests of Ndi Igbo through deliberate policy initiatives designed to give the people a true sense of belonging, including the ongoing construction of the 2nd Niger Bridge, among others.

Governor Uzodinma said the people of South East would remain grateful to the President for approving the establishment of a Naval Base in Oguta Local Government Area of the State, adding that as time unfolds, the economic benefits of the base would manifest.

The Governor also commended the President for strongly supporting the appointment of two prominent Igbos into two key international organisations-Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, Assistant Director-General of Health Emergency Intelligence, World Health Organisation (WHO).

In his remarks, the President-General, Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Prof. George Obiozor assured the President of the continuous support of Ndigbo.

‘‘Ndigbo are committed to Nigerian unity and there is news for those trying to push us out of Nigeria.

‘‘Ndigbo in Nigeria are like fish in the ocean and no matter how rough the storm is, it cannot drive the fish out of the ocean.

‘‘Mr President, it is in this context, that we see a new dawn in your distinguished presence in Igbo land and believe that on your return to Abuja the significance and substance of this visit will form new foundation of a platform for meaningful dialogue on critical issues of concern to the Igbo nation,’’ he said.
