oyb:

no offense, but you clearly have not thought our post through

are you saying your dad's company is a company based on thievery, and therefore attracted thieves?

now you tell me, in the case of ibru, basically the owner of the company - who would a whistle blower have reported to?

you are naive if you think the world is black and white where you report your colleagues or superiors for wrong doing and ride off into the sunset everytime .

No hon, YOU are the one who is naive for reading the figure of speech literally.  Figures of speech like the name implies are usually read figuratively. If I say "He who lives by the sword dies by the sword", does it mean all those who didn't live by the sword but died by the sword are bad or evil? If I say "What you sow is what you reap", does it mean all those who didn't reap good fruits are lazy or are bad? What if I say "What goes around comes around" ,does it mean all those suffering is as a result of some bad thing they did to some person?  I really don't know how to explain a figure of speech to you because I'm not an English teacher. If you don't get it. Its all good.

As for the madam Ibru statement, that was made in relation to the fact that some people felt being a family man / woman gives you a free pass to stealing. Note, in this case the issue is not about reporting madam Ibru or not reporting. The point was, being a family man/woman doesn't make the wrong you do right or let you off the hook. After all I mentioned Osama in the same sentence, does he have anything to do with stealing? Different paragraph, different point.

As for me being naive to think "the world is black and white where you report your colleagues or superiors for wrong doing and ride off into the sunset everytime". I don't get it. I just stated what I believed in and what I wanted from a company I will own. If that makes me naive, okay, i'll take it. You have your own beliefs, others have theirs, and its all good. Everyone can not agree, if we all did, there will be a problem. So my dear, relax its really not that serious, its just an opinion. Everybody should have one. And honey, this situation really is either black or white as in its either you stand for the culprit being left off the hook or you don't. It's not rocket science.

PS. I hope you know the "black or white" sentence is a figure of speech also. I don't want you asking me if what I'm saying is that those who support the stealing are "black" AKA evil, and those who don't are "white" AKA good  undecided undecided Okay ooo, just putting up the disclaimer cos we could go round and round with this issue.
Career / Re: Why Is Solar Panel Not Used In Nigeria by kech(f): 8:55am On Jun 06, 2010
Honey you don't know what you are saying. I'm an architect and I design homes and buildings with "solar panels" AKA Photo-voltaic panels all the time. This "basic wiring of silicons together" you are talking about is not beans. The silicon crystals in the cells are what make the Photo-voltaic panels expensive. The raw material as in the silicon itself is cheap. Purifying it is where the money comes in. The kind of silicon used in these panels demand a much greater purity than other grades of silicon.  So my dear, shebi na silicon? Dem plenty everywhere. The trick is getting the purest form that can be used and that my dear, can not be found randomly, you have to PAY and get them purified. They say the purification process is very difficult and a lot of the purified silicon is wasted in the process. What they are doing now is looking to improve this purification process to make it more efficient. The more efficient it gets to get the silicon purified, the lower the price of the panels drop.

FYI, people have tried bringing "solar panels" to Nigeria, in fact they are still trying. After all we have the resources. Abi the sun is free? Unfortunately, its too expensive to install. To tell you the truth, I believe that it can take about $28,000 to get it installed. The number of PV panels you'll use will depend on the amount of wattage you'll need to generate for your home each day. Some people may be able to afford it but the bulk of the people who should be benefiting from it (the masses) will not be able to.

This is a sterling example of why Nigeria is in such a mess today. Truth be told, the OP is little better than the thief himself. He has twice turned a blind eye to theft and yet you people are coddling him.

If he cannot report this matter to the relevant authorities, then let him stay where he is and stop whining about it on Nairaland. if the management catches the fellow now and he confesses that the OP knew about the crimes, guess who's also gonna get the sack?

My dear, they say you never know the true impact of something until it hits close to home or even hits your home. Some people are saying "Mind your business na your money?" Others are saying "Don't report him cos he's a family man". Okay ooo,  but these people should remember this when they have their own businesses iiooo. When your employees start stealing from you please remember that they are family men iioooo. Remember that it's not their money so they can do with it as they like iiooo.

Employee theft almost ruined my dad's company. The funny thing is my dad is a "softie". He knew some people stole and forgave them. Guess what? Those same people kept stealing until they almost ran the company down. It took that drastic situation for my dad to finally let those culprits go. Most of these people who steal NEVER stop. If you check their history, they probably stole from every company they worked for before yours. Anyone who steals from a company DOES NOT have the company's and their colleagues best interest. Their attitude is like most people on this forum  "Which wan konsain me? No be my company. If  company close, me I go just pack my bag waka". Now tell me, who in his or her right mind wants that kind of employee? If you don't mind or don't care, good luck. As for me, some things are just taboo in a workplace. In my employee handbook it is going to state clearly, "If you steal from the company? You WILL be let go and you can not appeal. If you cover up for someone who stole, you can't be trusted so you WILL be let go and you can not appeal".

Please remember YOU ATTRACT WHO YOU ARE. There are no two ways about it. The way you think, the way you reason, the way you act, those are the kind of people you'll attract in life. As for those crying "He's a family man, she's a family woman". Ibori is a family man iiiooo. That Ibru woman is a family woman iiooo. Osama is a family man iiooo. Ok na, make everybody go get family so when you steal dem no go sack you. Mumu.

Mad_Max:

You know our local culture. From the cradle women told the goal and validation for their existence as women is to get hitched and drop children like flies. Danged skippy you're getting married if you enter a relationship with those. I've heard with my own ears Nigerians asking a woman, 'Is that your husband?' meaning her boyfriend, with the understanding that, yeah they're getting married. Afterall, they're dating. Sorry about the heartbreak, lady. But sometimes, who's hurting seems to depend on who left whom first. But I think Mr Brownjay's said it all. We haven't heard the other side. Men aren't commitment phobes. Most of them know the woman they want to marry within a very short interval of meeting her. Ask most married guys. No one coerced them. They WANTED to get married to that woman and would've almost died if she'd left them. He shouldn't have led her on and started making wedding plans. That's shitty. But he didn't leave her at the altar. They were just plans and she sounded too needy and overly theatrical. Her life shouldn't revolve around getting married. It's important but it shouldn't be the sole purpose for her existence. My friend's mother said something when I was a teenager. I never forgot and it served me well. She said: Don't ever chase after men or make them the focus of your life. Make something of your own life. The right man will eventually come along. I found it to be true. Really sorry for your pain, lady. Sorry.

Mad_Max sooooo true LOL!! Even as a girl, I find it irritating when a fellow girl asks another "Is that your husband?" or "I saw your husband today." Or if they see the guy somewhere it's "Where is your wife?"  Bear in mind that they are still dating ooo, as in Boyfriend/Girlfriend. But the one that really grates on my nerves is when I hear or see (especially on FACEBOOK) girls asking "Is that "Him"? and the girl replies, "Yes, this is "Him". What is "Him" bikonu? Him" is a subtle way of girls saying to other girls, "he's the one", as in "this is a done deal." The problem with that is,  if he is not your husband or your fiancé you have no business playing that rough play.

I told myself I wasn't going to respond to this post cos it hits close to home but after reading the second part of her story, I wanted to puke.  They had s.ex together at his aunty's place twice. First because it just happened and then because she wanted to prove a point. "  I felt the need to make him suffer like I was suffering so this time I started kissing him. I slept with him, made it as mechanical as possible, I proved my point he is no good. He would have being a cheating husband. He did not even resist me the second time, kept saying are you sure this is what you want? Anyways I left as soon as I climaxed, it took forever but it was worth it. No point wasting it, we have started lets finish, this will be the last, I kept saying, "

Even more pathetic is the fact that some people replied  her post saying "Good girl, I wish his girl will see this, it will make my day."  I said to myself "May the Lord keep me away from foolish friends that think this way". And we wonder why some chics get themselves in this mess? Let me give you a piece of advice Mya, stop making a fool of yourself. I have been burnt BAD! I know people that have been burnt BADDER!!! I can tell you that there are better ways to deal with these kind of issues. You see all these gra gra, whining, looking for pity,  and being consoled by bitter people whose only advice is for you put your life on hold wait hope for "karma" to befall "the devil", will not help your situation. First mistake was sleeping together again. What's with all the "He's a scum, his girlfriend called, he answered, I thought he was going to reject it, bla bla bla"? What did you expect? You knew he was going out with someone else yet you still slept with him. Both of your are still fresh out of a relationship so the there's bound to be some chemistry still there. You both put yourselves in an awkward situation and paid the price. On the other hand, from your conclusion, it seems that was all it took to wake you up from la-la land and you're happy now. If that's really true, then I guess it was worth it. undecided

American psyche is "Be the best, boast about it and encourage/admire those that are the best".

It's still a huge improvement. If you say this is paltry, what do you say to the fact that it was $7500? shocked Damn right unbelievable! I must have been living in la-la land. I think this change is mostly going to affect the civil servants cos their pay comes directly from the government. Rain or shine, they'll still get their money. I just hope Jonathan knows it doesn't happen by magic. The economy has to get into better shape for this to affect everyone. You can't expect a struggling brick layer to pay that amount to his worker if he doesn't have the money.

Jonathan’s Gift to Workers: Minimum Wage Now N18,000
•New salary to be paid from August
From Kunle Akogun and Damilola Oyedele in Abuja, 05.02.2010

A new pay package for Nigerian civil servants will be operational in three months, Acting President Goodluck Jonathan, has said. When operational, the least paid worker would go home with N18,000 at the end of every month as against the N7,500 minimum wage that presently obtains.

Jonathan while addressing workers on the occasion of the May Day celebration, pleaded with the civil servants to shelve their planned five-day warning strike scheduled to commence tomorrow, and assured them that the issues in dispute would be resolved within the next three months.
He also disclosed that he had directed the Minister of Labour, Chief Chukwuemeka Wogu, to ensure that negotiations with the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council achieves the desired results within the next three months.
“This important assignment of which I understand you are respectfully represented in the committee is nearing conclusion. The National Committee on Parameters for Wages in the public segment is also working assiduously to ensure that we have a mechanism that will make for adjustment on workers’ remuneration gradual.

“I sincerely plead with the civil service unions to negotiate with the government because of the warning strike they have presented to us. I believe very sincerely that Nigeria and indeed the rest of the society must develop to a point that workers will not negotiate for salary increase,” he said.
Jonathan said this year’s Workers Day celebrations coincide with the Golden Jubilee of the nation’s independence.
He gave the assurance that the federal government was working assiduously to address issues of employment generation, Niger Delta crisis, electoral reform, power supply and other necessities for national development.
“For me I promise honest service. I will give all my heart and mobilise every available talent of Nigerians wherever they are to meet the expectations of our people. As we are going into an election year, the issue of credible of election is top on my agenda to national liberation.

"I have taken the challenge of an inadequate power supply, peace and rapid development of Niger Delta, food security as well as overall security of all Nigerians and promoting credible elections as priorities in the concluding months of this administration," Jonathan said.
Jonathan also told the rally of thousands of workers that his government would give Nigerians free, fair and credible elections in 2011, compared with previous polls that were judged to be largely flawed by local and international observers, including the United Nations and the United States.
He also promised to improve security in the restive, oil-rich Niger Delta that has in the past three years been the theatre of kidnappings and attacks.

Jonathan expressed government's resolve to provide a conducive environment for the workforce.
He said his presence at the occasion was a demonstration of the administration's belief that to build a strong democracy, there must be a virile labour movement.
According to the Acting President, no nation can develop beyond what the collective efforts of its working population can present. "The rate and size of a country's development is dependent on the size of its economy and therefore the need for an expanded economy for the good of our people", Jonathan said.
He said there was an on-going effort by government to create a new Nigeria anchored on social justice, industrial peace and harmony, due process and the rule of law and thus called for a collective effort to achieve a solid and prosperous nation.

Jonathan promised to provide honest service on his part as government works towards ensuring transparency and accountability in the conduct of its business.
President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Omar Abdulwaheed in his speech said the negotiation over the National Minimum Wage has dragged for several months. He said they were earlier hoping that the issue would have been concluded and that the government would announce it to the workers on May Day (yesterday) based on the agreement reached.
“In the same vein, we have followed the negotiations on relativity in the public service and the apparent lack of progress in the process. The distortion occasioned by the consolidated salary structure in the public service is not only unjust but against the principles of equity and social justice,” he said.

He pointed out that the tripartite committee had completed its work. “Your Excellency, the ball is now in the court of the executive arm to fast track the promulgation of the committee recommendations into a New National Minimum Wage Law. Nigerian workers will not accept any further delay on this matter,” he said.
President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Peter Esele, expressed disappointment that the civil servants were offered only a 10 per cent salary increment while the Police and other services got between 60 and 100 per cent.
He also called for sincere efforts to address the various problems of the country which have all contributed to hinder the country’s growth.

“TUC will support any action taken by the Association of Senior Civil Servants to address this injustice as we will not accept anything less than N18, 000 as minimum wage payable to Nigerian workers.”
The theme for this year's celebration is '50 years of Nationhood and the Working Class: Challenges of Good Governance, Unity and Credible Elections'

Seriously poster, you make me laugh. What you need to do is pray that God gives you a good Naija woman to marry. It doesn't matter where she lives. The reason why it seems marrying from back home is better is because there is a larger pool of ladies to chose from. The downside for ladies living abroad is that the Naija community is small. When I say small I mean everyone knows everyone and their business, and everyone is judgemental. Any little slip can tarnish your reputation for good in the community, unless you relocate.  It baffles me how some guys condemn ladies who live abroad and imply that they are not marriage worthy because they "drink and smoke". Ehn, see you now, Saint Obi. The funny thing is, you're probably going to attract the same kind of girls in Naija. You just won't notice because the "Naija-girls-are-good-girls" syndrome you have will warp your sense of reasoning. One thing I can tell you is, even if you proclaim from here to the high heavens that you want to marry from your village only, if you don't put God in the equation, you are wasting your time. There are bad and good women EVERYWHERE! Two of my uncles thought  like you. They felt they were doing themselves a favour by dumping their un-worthy girlfriends and going home to marry "innocenti". Where are they now? One is divorced and the other refuses to get divorced because he can't think of sharing his "hard-earned" property with his wife.
Don't get me wrong ooo. There is definitely a greater possibilty of getting a "good" girl in Naija, but don't delude yourself into thinking that all girls in Naija are good. Also, don't condemn and bring other ladies down in order to "justify your reasons for wanting to go back home to pick a wife. If you say you prefer to marry from back home because the ladies may still be in touch with the culture and may be more homely, kini big deal? There's actually nothing wrong with that. Just don't muddy others to make a point. Cos you actually have no point.  Wharreva man.

Women Protest Senator’s Marriage to Underaged
From Sufuyan Ojeifo in Abuja, 04.28.2010

The quiet marriage of former Zamfara State governor and Senate Minority Whip, Senator Ahmed Sani Yerima to a 13-year old Egyptian girl, has continued to attract condemnation by the womenfolk.
A coalition of women groups yesterday took its protest to the Senate, urging the Senate President, David Mark leadership of the Upper House to suspend him for marrying an underaged girl.

The coalition, led by Dr. Mma Nkwocha, comprised the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Women Rights Advancement and Pro-tection Alternative (WRAPA) and the Global Association of Women Attorneys (GAFA).
In a swift reaction to the protest, Senators Chris Anyanwu, Emem Uffot Ekaette, Nkechi Nwaogu and Patricia Akwashiki pledged to provide support to the group in its advocacy against the act.

In addition to the call on the Senate leadership to suspend Yerima, the coalition urged his constituents in Zamafara Central Senatorial District to recall him from the Senate.
But Chair of the Senate Committee on Information and Media, Senator Ayogu Eze, said at a briefing session yesterday that those opposed to Yerima’s marriage should go to court.

According to him, “It is not the responsibility of the Senate to begin to investigate if he (Yerima) has broken the law. The Senate is not a law enforcement agency.”

Leader of the Coalition, Nkwocha had said, while briefing Senate Correspondents, that “The people who are supposed to be guarding the nation are the ones breaking the rules.

“Hitherto, Nigeria had hidden under the guise of Islam or Christianity but the issue in question is the marriage of one minor.

“Maybe because of poverty, he brought this little girl to Nigeria to complete the marital rites.

“We are calling on senator Yerima to resign because this is not the first time. We learnt that another girl that he had taken before now is turning seventeen years.

“He has kept that one aside and has come for this little one.  Are we disposable commodities?  It is unbecoming of a nation called Nigeria.

“We should be the ones advocating the abolition of child marriage…It is not acceptable.”

GAFA representative, Mrs. Chinelo Iriele, said “Nigerian women are sad because the Child Right Acts, Section 21 prohibits Child marriage.

“Section 22 prohibits betrothal of a child under the age of 13. Today one of our senators, Senator Yerima, who is a member of the highest law making body in the country, is committing the same offence that attracts the penalty of five years imprisonment or N500,000 fine or both.

“If we have a man like Senator Yerima, what happens to our bill on child abuse?  We are calling for his withdrawal because it is a shame that Senator Yerima should contract marriage with a thirteen year old.

“This year, the one he married when she was fifteen would be seventeen this year. If we allow this to go on, by this time next year, he would be marrying a six-year old girl.

“We want the people of Zamfara State to start the process that would recall him from the senate. We are not afraid.”

Actresses Lydia Forson and Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku have finally made a public reaction to the weeklong misconception created by fellow actress, Jackie Appiah about the winner (or winners) of the Best Actress In Lead Role Award at the just ended African Movie Academy Award (AMAA).

According to them, even though they see the deliberate attempt by some people to discredit them of the hard-won award, they would rather leave everything to God than jump over the roof.

Lydia and Naa's management headed by Habiba Nelson, on Wednesday told NEWS-ONE that the two actresses are not perturbed about what Jackie has gone to tell any media house.

“We are not bothered about everything that happened,” she simply said, adding however that the truth can never be submerged by any man, and hoped the good within the entertainment fraternity would be the better judges over the sad development.

Habiba, sounding very composed over what people see as 'Jackie's gaff', said she would rather let sleeping dogs lie. To her, the most important thing is that AMAA had come out to clear the air.

“The truth always speaks for itself. Three people won. My clients, Miss Forson and Miss Mensah Doku are happy and we are grateful to God for winning. That's all that matters to us,” she added.

It is recalled that at the historic AMA Awards in Bayelsa State, Nigeria, Saturday April 10, three people were named as winners for their lead role in Sparrow Production's Perfect Picture.

However hours after the team returned to Ghana, Jackie quickly rushed to a section of the Ghanaian media, including a state-owned print media house, and granted interviews implying that she singlehandedly won the award. She repeated the claims even on television.

Her action has incurred the wrath of observers, many of who think that she was not only sounding selfish and individualist, but also misleading.

Birds have indeed whispered to News-One that the AMAA organizers intimated during the awards that the controversial award was made possible through the invaluable acting prowess of Lydia and Naa in the Perfect Picture Movie.

AMAA representatives in Ghana had to come out to clear the mess, through a prompt press statement.

The statement, dated 20th April, 2010, categorically gave out Ghana's six award specifications as follows:

AMAA achievement in sound- I sing of a well AMAA achievement in costume- I sing of a well (Mabel Germain)

Best original soundtrack - (Adablah) Best performance by an actor in a supporting role- Adjetey Annang

Best performance by an actress in a leading role – Naa Ashorkor Mensah Doku, Lydia Forson and Jackie Appiah

Best director – Shirley Frimpong Manso Ghana also got the most coveted awards of the jury award for Best Movie by I sing of a well and a lifetime achievement award to King Ampaw.

Ms. Judith Oluwole Kuwornu, AMAA representative in Ghana, told this paper that only one plaque was presented that day at the event because the jury released the names of the winners to the committee just 20 minutes to the commencement of the event, for which reason it was impossible to instantly do other plaques.

I said it earlier that if anyone deserved this award, it was Lydia Forson ONLY! I can bet that they felt the need to compensate Jackie and there was NO WAY they couldn't have given Lydia an award. So guess what the solution was? Give a joint award!!.

Pics here: http://www.namywedding.com/dream-weddings/3

Bella looked gorgeous. One thing I can say is she definitely looked a bit uncomfortable. Even when Jameel was kissing her she looked stiff. I can bet she would have wanted to jump and scream and let loose on her wedding day but she had to consider the other side of her, as in the Adenuga's daughter/Executive Director/Big Boss to hundreds side. embarassed embarassed. Maybe she felt the need to comport herself. Would really have loved to see her radiating like the young bride she truly is! undecided Anyway I'm sure she's happy.

Nigerians must come to grips with the fact that their country is a colonial contraption that needs serious and urgent reconfiguration.

The acts of abusing the journalists for exposing the governors they deemed honest while praising same journalists for listing the names of governors and politicians they deemed corrupt are worst than following path of apathy to Nigerian politics as do many market women and village farmers in Nigeria.

Democracy preaches the principles of the rule of law and the same law that is respecter of nobody whether perceived innocent or guilty.  The demeanors of certain peeps on this forum reiterate the fact that Nigeria is far from being qualified as an entity to study democracy talk less of practice it.

Kobojunkie:

May I suggest you spend some actual time learning of democracy, your state constitution and maybe hanging out with some of the taxpayers who have taken it upon themselves to learn their right and what the Government ought to do for them? There is no point I continuing this back and forth with you since it is all too clear that you are willing to offer up conjecture and excuses rather than solid reasoning in the way of this issue

Thank you ooo. I just don't get it. The fact is we claim to be the most educated yet we are still very ignorant. Nigerians do not know their rights as citizens of the country and that's the big problem. We've been so used to being intimidated and oppressed that it's now seen as the norm. We've been socially conditioned to keep suffering and smiling. Take Lagos for example. A lot of the citizens are so used to the chaos and filth that any one that succdeeds in introducing any form of order into the state is deemed a god and to them, he can do no wrong. Fashola introduced BRT and everyone was hooked. He started planting flowers everywhere and people started celebrating as if the exchange rate just dropped to N1 = $1.  Don't get me wrong. It was a welcome development. The problem is people tend to lose sight of the fact that Fashola is there to SERVE US! He is doing that with OUR MONEY! He's a PUBLIC SERVANT! THAT IS HIS JOB!!!! If he does something good, we should commend him and demand more. That's what he's there for. Lagosians just assumed that since he started in what seemed like the right direction, he can do no wrong so they can sit on their butts and hope that he'll transform the state. In fact, which other governor has planted flowers? Fashola for 2011 jor!

Anyway, they say "in the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king". Nigerians know your rights ooo!! These people are there to SERVE YOU!!! Demand change, don't beg for it!! If they plants flowers on your street, thank them but tell them to finish the job by removing the trash next to it so the flowers can bloom properly. If they give you new buses, thank them but tell them to also fix the roads so that the buses can move about smoothly. Don't let anyone pacify you with handouts. You are entitled to more and THEY (those in power) KNOW IT!!!

Phew! Had to get that off my chest. Nigerians an be so frustrating. I can imagine what will happen if Jonathan succeeds in giving us constant power. He'll become the president for life!!!

Anyway, back to the topic. Fashola is not above corruption. He is though, innocent until proven guilty. If they can prove that he's guilty, then the law should take its course. It's time we start holding our leaders accountable. This is the kind of crap that gives people like Ibori and Babangida the effrontery to still walk this earth and shove their butts in our faces. Ibori's day is very near.  Babangida and the rest, your time is coming. It may not be now, but it will surely come. Enjoy it while it lasts.
