Quit talking crap.

What research did you conduct? And where are your statistics? Do you know the amount of foreign women married by other Nigerian men?

Simply state that it's your personal opinion, like the OP is doing(which is quite different from the fact), and STOP spreading misinformation.

Check out how regular Nigerians from different tribes perceive each other. Unfortunately, this is just for Hausa,Yoruba and Igbo. I think they should expand it, these are not the only tribes in Nigeria.

@OP, I don't really think it's about Yoruba men "getting any woman they want". Out of all the tribes in Nigeria, Yoruba men are the most accommodating of girls from other tribes/countries when it comes to a relationship. Also, there is a higher percentage of a relationship between a Yoruba man and a girl from another tribe/country ending in marriage as opposed to a man from another tribe. Most men from other tribes tend to stick to their own. That's not to say some of them are not accommodating. Yoruba men are just more liberal.
Politics / Re: Case For Split Of Nigeria Into Manageable Units by kech(f): 9:29am On Nov 06, 2010
It still won't work, we still have "minorities" in the so-called geopolitical zones. In fact, believe it or not, the South-South which has the oil will be the hardest hit. Most of the tribes are so different and have no similarities or co-relation whatsoever. Most of the smaller tribes are still fighting for their place there. What's going to happen is that the Warri man will tell the Asaba man that they have no oil so they have no say. The ikwerre man and the Ijaw man will keep fighting over Port-Harcourt and who owns the oil. The Kalabari man will say "Hey, as you people are fighting, we are here o!" Let's not even talk about Cross River and the numerous tribes I never knew existed.

The point is, even if we do that, it's just going to end up being a microcosm of what Nigeria is now. We are still going to end up having dominant tribes who'll keep fighting over power while the smaller tribes suffer. If we can't solve our problems now, we won't be able to solve it then.

10,000 bootleg DVDs of 'Nollywood' Nigerian movies seized in Brooklyn

More than 10,000 bootleg DVDs of popular Nigerian movies have been seized this week after complaints from "Nollywood" film  execs about rampant piracy in Brooklyn.

The pirated DVDs were found at nine stores in the borough, along with several high volume disc duplicators, said District Attorney Charles Hynes.

"The sale of bootleg and counterfeit goods deprives the city and state of New York of millions of dollars in sales tax revenue," Hynes said yesterday.

"And it deprives the artists who made the movies of their well-deserved proceeds."

The Nigerian film industry, known globally as "Nollywood," is extremely prolific, second only to India's Bollywood in terms of the number of films made.

Most are straight to DVD or TV,  but extremely popular throughout the African continent.

That popularity has followed to the communities of immigrants from Africa in the United States, where they are legally sold in DVD form for $5 apiece while the fakes sell for $3 each.

Among the titles recovered in the sweep this past week are feature films like "Material Girl," "Mind Games," the "Governor's Gift" and "Stolen Will."

Music/Radio / Onyeka Onwenu Stands Up For Toni Payne. by kech(f): 3:08pm On Nov 03, 2010
Editor’s Note: Below is a fiery letter written by music legend, Onyeka Onwenu to the Editor of This Day Newspapers. Onwenu’s letter serves as a response to Azuka Ogujiuba’s article titled ‘A Blaze of Glory for 2Face’ (published on Saturday, October 30, 2010), whose content Onwenu believes is part of a personal attack on Toni Payne, entertainment publicist and  wife of musician, 9ice. Read the full letter below:

I have rarely made it my business to respond to newspaper articles, but when I do, you can be sure that I have been sorely provoked. You can also imagine that in nearly thirty years as an Entertainer, running the whole gamut of the industry as Singer/Songwriter, Actress, Broadcaster etc, I have had more than a fair share of unwarranted attacks. I have also witnessed others go through it, especially women. I have come to accept these attacks as some of the hazards of the job we do. There are people who are just jealous of others’ progress and who perhaps live vicariously, albeit with malicious intent, through the doings of those they envy. Some of these people happen to be journalists who by virtue of their profession, have the advantage of the pages of a newspaper or the air waves, as instruments of harassment and denigration.

That said, let me remind all, that I am a journalist and have unlimited respect for my profession and training. Nigerian journalists are among the best in the world and I am indeed proud to be one of them. Nigeria is a society which professes to respect women, but in practice we do not. Our tradition is to keep them down, relegate them to the background where they are best seen and not heard. When they manage to break through the glass ceiling, striving to be themselves and excelling against all odds, we celebrate them, quite alright, but with an undertone of fear for their “brazen”, “aggressive” and “uppity” disposition. And as soon as the slightest opportunity presents itself, we quickly pull them down. A journalist who never fails to disappoint in this regard is Mr Reuben Abati of the Guardian Editorial Board. On the issue of Nigeria’s First Ladies and their “Powers”, Abati’s language is almost always condescending and denigatory, to the extent that I am compelled to conclude that he harbours a deep resentment for women – for some reason. His last contribution to the Okirika Waterfront demolition debate and Her Excellency, Dame Jonathans’ expression of concern, earlier this year, comes readily to mind.

Quite a few journalists in the 80s and 90s made their names criticizing Onyeka Onwenu, mostly for no reason other than their wanting to be noticed. I refer to people like Azuka Jebosi and Ladi of Punch Newspapers, Mayor Akinpelu and Faj of the defunct Fame Magazine. At a point, Dele Momudu, God bless him, was moved to admonish Faj, who, not so subtly had tried to rubbish my CD “Onyeka” inspite of the fact that it was adjudged to be a brilliant outing in 1992. Mayor Akinpelu declared to all who cared to listen that he “could not stand Onyeka Onwenu” who according to him was indeed “finished”, as an Artiste. This was during the campaign for PMAN (Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria) Presidency, which pitted me against King Sunny Ade, in 1998. The Anti – Onyeka campaign continued with great intensity until I took a number of Entertainment Publications to court and won substantial amounts of money. These publications sought to damage my reputation. I was portrayed as a person of easy virtue, a love-peddler, a trouble maker and an unserious Artiste. Hard to believe, is it not? My crime was my audacity of purpose, outspokenness and insistence on being given my due respect. For displaying a modicum of self respect and restraint in my public conduct, I was labelled a snub, with the usual comment, “who does she think she is”. Well, I was never one to back down from a challenge and I gave as good as I got. I made no apologies and I continued to be myself – self assured, focused and dedicated to my work. In due course and grudgingly, these journalists had no choice but to begin to show respect and appreciation for my person and my work. In all these attacks, the most perplexing were the ones from a female journalist, the Queen of Junk, she was called, at the time. For some reason, she really had it in for me, other female Artistes and even fellow female journalists. I had taken enough courses in psychology in college to realize that the attacks were coming from a sense of inadequacy, in herself. When her career of bitterness and vendetta took a nose dive and she couldn’t compete in an era where journalism of personal attack had lost its lure, I concluded that I was right.

And that brings me to Azuka Ogujiuba and Toni Payne. Ms Toni Payne is my publicist and a young woman who impresses me with her zeal for work and excellent knowledge of the Nigerian Entertainment terrain with regards to what she does, which is publicism.  She is respectful and conducts herself with decorum. She handles assignments with a seriousness that belies her young age. Ever since I came in contact with her, for the publicity of my Legend CD early this year, I have not ceased to be amazed by her appetite for work and sincerity of purpose.
To watch her pummelled on Azuka’s Saturday This Day column, week after week, and unnecessarily, has been a torture for me. Ms Payne has laughed off these obvious attacks but I am not prepared to do so.
In her article “A Blaze of Glory for Tuface”, in discussing the issue of Tuface’s Baby mothers and the “danger they portend to his career (an issue I most definitely do not want to delve into), Azuka manages, as usual, to draw in Toni Payne, whom she describes as a “Groupie”. This is for marrying the Artiste 9ice, I suppose. Hear Azuka, “Toni Payne who conspicuously falls into this category because of her undying and unimaginable love to be called “Celebrity” has finally created the biggest Rift or ‘BEEF’ as they say in the Nigerian Entertainment scene. Azuka goes on and on, wondering how Toni Payne could live with herself. She ends the tirade with this: “Some even suggest that 9ice’s decision to end their marriage was a smart move”.
My dear Azuka, if you have a thing for 9ice, why don’t you go after him and leave Toni Payne alone. You have become too obvious and deliberate in your attacks. This is not journalism but vendetta, unprovoked, unwarranted and unbearable for those of us who pay money to buy This Day on Saturdays. Your Editor should now call you to order. Enough!

I had not intended to write this article. I had made a personal phone call to Ms Ogujiuba, to try and speak with her about her unrelenting attacks on Toni Payne. This is the conversation that ensued.

Me:        “Hello! May I please speak with Azuka Ogujiuba?”
Azuka:   Silence (there is some talking in the background).
Me:        “Hello, my name is Onyeka Onwenu. Am I speaking to Azuka?”
Azuka:   “Yes, what do you want?”
Me:       “You seem not to know me but I really would like to talk with you about Toni Payne and the fact that…”
Azuka:   Cuts in – “How did you even get my number?”
Me:        “Oh I see that you are intent on being rude. Well, I will write your Editor instead. I don’t do rude” I switched off.

My song “One Love” has a line which says “living in the world is a struggle just staying alive” and that is true, particularly for a young, professional woman in Nigeria. The last thing she needs is a misdirected, ambitious and envious journalist, trying to put her down, ostensibly, because of her marriage choice.
I am not interested in Toni Payne’s private life and it is not my place to defend her choices but I do take exception to a journalist attacking someone for no good reason, particularly a woman. Azuka Ogujiuba, get a life and leave Toni Payne alone to live hers.

God bless you.

Culture / Re: Which State Is Least Racist And Low For Gun Crime. by kech(f): 4:45am On Oct 29, 2010
@OP you should be looking at the whole package; cost of living, diversity, safety, job opportunities and the likes. From your list, I'll say Connecticut has the least crime rate, but I don't know if it will be a good place for you to start as a newbie in the U.S. The rent can be pretty high, there are not many job oportunities compared to some other states on your list and the transportation system is not as established as some other states (If you don't have a car). Connecticut is a great place to live, but as a newbie just starting to hustle, it's not the place for you. I understand the way u feel about not wanting to stay where too many Naijas are grin, but the places are not so bad. There are reasons Naijas flock to certain areas. If there are no opportunities there, they WON"T be there. The good thing about it is that you get integrated into the system faster. It'll be easier to find Naijas that can help you get a place or look for a job or recommend you to someone. The only advice I'll give is, as a newbie, be careful of the first set of people you meet (Naija or otherwise), who want to "help" you and maybe "introduce you to the system", or "show you around and how things are done". They could make or break you.
Anyway, I think you should look into these states.
New York/New Jersey
Maryland/Virginia
Texas

But to be honest, I wouldn't rule other states out because it also depends on what you want to do when you get there. What industry do u want to work in? Some states have more advantages in some areas than others. As for the racist thing-y, there are racist everywhere. Just bear it in mind that States in the Northeastern U.S are more racially tolerant than States in the South.

Jobs/Vacancies / Recruitment Agencies In Naija: How To: by kech(f): 11:12pm On Sep 18, 2010
Ok guys, just relocated back to Naija and am about looking for a job. I see a lot of people using recruitment agencies like Adecco and Kimberly Ryan. Some of these agencies allow you post CVs on their websites. For those who have been successful, what do you guys suggest? Do I post my CV online or should I physically drop them off at their offices? Do they accept CVs at their offices by the way? Which one has an advantage? I ask this because I know there's always a "Naija" factor. I just have that feeling that if I post my CV online, no one may ever get to see it. I'll just be there roasting grin. Someone please advice. Mehn, looking for work in Naija is not beans.

Second question. Is BAT the only company Adecco recruits for? undecided

Make we hear word ooo! Your fellow Nigerian, Lola Akinmade took these pictures. I'm sure BBC didn't collect it from him/her at gunpoint. What's wrong with the pictures? It just shows the situation as it is. There is a river separating the kids from their school and since they can't walk on water, they have to use a canoe. Shikena. The pictures show a lot. They show the careless and lackadaisical attitude of our leaders and the determination of those kids, braving all odds just to get to school. If you ask me, those are very strong photos. I don't think they are degrading and demeaning at all. You guys should stop trying to hide our mess under the rug. Let the whole world see biko. Most times the "embarrassment" - if that's what you want to call it -  is what's needed for our leaders to sit up.

Politics / Re: Aondokaa, barred From Entering The United States by kech(f): 4:11am On Jun 26, 2010
Guys whats all these arguing back and forth. I'm glad to see this development from the US and I totally understand those of you who said the children should have been left out of it. Infact, believe it or not, I'm starting to feel a little bit sorry for them shocked or so I think undecided But I'm amazed at how personal some people are taking it. The US must really be the "all and all" then. If a country says you are not welcome, you go somewhere else. Abi you sef no get country? For those of you bringing God into the equation, this is not about God. Those of you saying "How would you feel if God punishes you for the sins of your father" and all that. Well, that's why God is God and man is man. I get you. Really. But that's not the point. This Aondokaa's issue with the US and his kids is not about religion or forgiveness or punishment. Everyone knows the US has ZERO tolerance on immigration issues; moreso when it involves foreign corrupt officials, criminals, dictators and their families. They don't do it to punish the families of these people, they do it mainly to seal ALL loopholes and ties the corrupt official/criminal may have to the US. This way, the family
1)The families CAN NOT exile to the US; which is what most of them eventually do.
2)The families CAN NOT easily open businesses/ accounts which may be used as proxies to store or launder ill gotten wealth. Remember, the  US can freeze the criminal's accounts but they can't freeze those of the families. The family didn't commit the crime; doesn't mean they can't be used to siphon money.

It is harsh, I know, but some times you gotta do what you gotta do. When the US wants to hit you, they hit hard and sometimes people around you suffer. Right now I have an uncle who can not enter the US because his ex- wife overstayed her visitors visa and stayed back in the US until she got a green card. Would you say that's fair?. No. The poor man could not attend any of his son's weddings and baby dedications in the US because of the "sins" of his ex-wife. He never knew of her plan until she was supposed to return and didn't. Anytime he goes to the embassy they give him the same reason. "We can't issue you a visa cos your wife defaulted on immigration rules." Chikena! That's it! And there's nothing you can do! To them, he may have been in on it, and no amount of appeals can convince them otherwise. The only way he can ever enter the US again is if any of his sons eventually becomes a citizen and files for him to come into the US as an immigrant. When children who are citizens of the US file for their parents to come over, it usually goes through. Unless you are on the US blacklist.

The point is. Rules are rules. It may not be fair but thats just the way the cookie crumbles. The same rule applies to other corrupt officials and their families. If their kids are in the US today or are able to visit, its because they were probably already US citizens or Green Card holders before whatever sanction was placed. If they are US citizens the US can't do anything to them; If they are green card holders, the US may or may not revoke their status. That will depend on further investigation of their lifestyles and woe betide them if they find any link of corrupt activities. Perfect excuse for deportation. The Aondokaa kids, and I guess other family members unfortunately, have no link to the US, so the US will make sure it stays so. How will they do that? By blocking access. It's as easy as that.

You guys should relax. If the US says "don't come", there are other countries. I doubt if the UK will follow suit. They are usually not tough with these things, unless he/she is the person involved. Even if they do, like someone said, China no send. They can always go there. Or maybe stay in Naija kpa kpa. They should go to their state, live in opulence, and go to babangida and obasanjo private schools. Shikena. No one will do anything. Abi no be naija again? Their likes are walking around free in naija with no hassles. In fact, they will even have more fun in Naija.  If they really need to live and school "abroad" they can go Australia or New Zealand. At least they speak English there. So you see, it's not that bad for the kids. grin

Crime / Police Admit To Lying In Apo Six Killing by kech(f): 8:34pm On Jun 19, 2010
Five years after the extra-judicial killing of six traders at the Apo mechanic village in Abuja, the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) yesterday told an Abuja High Court that he was compelled by his Divisional Police Officer to lie in order to save one of the policemen accused of the crime.

Dennis Asawa, a Police Constable, revealed that the DPO, Othman Abdulsalam, who is now at large, made him forge two of his statements to deflect suspicion from one of the officers accused of murdering the traders. Mr. Asawa told the trial judge, Ishaq Bello, that he made a total of three statements at both the Force Criminal Investigation Department and the State Criminal Investigation Department but only his third statement was voluntary.

“[That statement] contains the authentic report of what I witnessed in the course of my job,” he said. “It was untrue that I visited the scene of the event, as stated by the police report. In fact, some of the police witnesses told me their statements were equally dictated by the DPO.”

More retractions

Mr. Asawa is the latest of several police witnesses who have retracted their earlier testimonies. At the trial’s last session, two lead witnesses, Yakubu Philibus and Ibrahim Garba, pleaded with the court to disregard the statements they made before the Mike Okiro Panel of Inquiry that investigated the case in 2005. They insisted that they had lied, and that the six victims did not engage the police patrol squad in any sort of gun battle. Police Constable Haruna Mahmud, another witness said during cross-examination that only one of the eight statements he made was correct.

“The two statements I made on the day of the incident, and the testimony I gave at the Mike Okiro Panel were done under pressure from my DPO,” Mr. Mahmud said. According to Mr. Mammud, he was not even at the scene of the crime, he was at his duty post at Gimbya Street in Area 11, Garki, when the killings took place.

The Apo Six
In one of the most publicised cases of extra-judicial killings in Nigeria, six traders: Ifeanyi Ozor; Chinedu Meniru; Isaac Ekene; Paulinus Ogbonna; Anthony Nwodike and Augustina Arebun, were allegedly killed by a team of police officers on patrol in 2005 while the traders and a girlfriend were driving home from a night out in Abuja.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Ibrahim Danjuma, as well as police officers: Ezekiel Acheneje, Baba Emmanuel, Sadiq Salami, and Mr Abdulsalami, are standing trial on charges of culpable homicide for allegedly killing the victims. Apart from Mr. Danjuma, who was granted bail, and Mr. Abdulsalami, who is currently on the run, the remaining accused persons have been remanded at Kuje prison since 2005. The matter has been adjourned till July for fresh examination.

Politics / Re: Police Rifle Found At Akure Robbery Scene by kech(f): 8:08pm On Jun 19, 2010
Guys check this out. True story.
A friend's uncle was driving home very late when his car broke down on a bridge in Lagos (can't remember the name of the bridge) It was very late and no one was in sight so he decided to spend the night in his car till morning. He leaned back his drivers seat and slept off. He woke up about 30mins later when a police truck passed by and  parked in front of his car. The police men got out of the car and left. He didn't make anything of it until about another 30mins later, another car drove by and stopped; Some men got out of the car, went to the police truck, opened it, took out guns and drove off in the car they came with. After they left the poor man couldn't sleep again cos he was trying to figure out what was going on. He kept on thinking about the incident until about 2 hrs later, he heard a car coming. The people who came to pick up the guns came back to return the guns to the police truck and left. Some minutes later, the police men came back and drove off in their truck. It then dawned on him that these policemen had loaned their guns out for probably a robbery operation. Once it was dawn, my friends uncle left the scene immediately and went back later to get his car.

Since I heard this story I have never looked at the Nigerian Police Force the same way. In other words it's possible that the policeman the OP is talking about was indeed robbed of his gun, but I won't be surprised otherwise. Nothing can shock me anymore.

1)His business fails (What will you fall back on? You all and the children will start drinking garri abi?)

2) He dies (Yes, I said "DIES", because we all know that's the No.1 culprit! A man can take over his wife's business if she dies but we all know what happens to a wife when she insists on taking over the man's business when he passes away.)

If you have to stay at home. Start a home business. Don't stay idle. Most men who want their wives to remain "housewives" usually don't involve them in their businesses. So what you have is a husband who doesn't want you to work, and has a business that you know nothing about and have no input in. undecided undecided What's wrong with the picture? Everything.

I can bet on it that you know the right thing to do. You are just scared of what will become of you if you do it. Look honey, be bold and DO IT!! You are as desirable and fresh as any other single girl with no kid. Don't sell yourself short and don't settle for less. You having a kid b4 marriage DOES NOT reduce your stock, unless you think  that. Unfortunately I don't think this guy is right for you. I think he's taking advantage of the fact that you feel indebted to him for loving your son. These kind of men WILL break your heart. The freaking guy cannot even tell his mother what he wants. If he can't plead or try to convince his mother about you on your behalf, then he's not worth it. He can't even fight for you! He's a JERK!! Look at how his mom is treating you? Why will you want an uncouth mother-in-law? One who cannot even respect herself in public? My dear, run as fast as your legs can carry you. if you dont want to do it for you, do it for your son. He deserves better.

PS.  His mom said "free my son from your charm ibo girl". Please HANDS OFF!!! People who talk anyhow like this can do ANYTHING! Please ooo, hmm, before they'll decide to get their own charms to fight your supposed "charm". undecided undecided Okay don't mean to scare you but it happens.
