can i also suggest that for guys who r planning to come in search for jobs in dubai why don"t you guys buy a mini or regular laprop and come over here...it will help you alot cos internet facilities here are easily accessible and then u can do research easy by googling, checking dubizzle, chatting on NL...via the laptop.

personally i don't find it easy applying for jobs or other stuffs through the phone....my 2 cents

justi4jesu:
Well i don't really know about Sharjah but i heard houses are cheaper over there than Dubai.

Abu-hail is the old dubai with old modern houses that's why but its a quiet place though and lots of Nigerians live there.

Knowledge test will be a walk over if you practice with the RTA App.

CareerRe: Any HSE Professionals In The House? by ken1982: 10:29pm On Jul 21, 2015
thanks bro....have a good day

hope u enlighten us more too....

i just downloaded a crane safety manual online so i can expand my knowledge

best regards

Allwility:
Hello bro, the pre inspection involve checks on operator and banksman's competency, site restrictions (we look out for other hazards from the site esp electrical hazards) and general walkaround inspection. Inspections are conducted by the safety team with background in engineering and the sciences.

Thanks for the compliments. I'm sure you are doing great too. I have a lot to learn from you as well.
CareerRe: Any HSE Professionals In The House? by ken1982: 7:04pm On Jul 21, 2015
this is so nice ...men i salute you....

the most important thing i see is experience ...

ground evenness and stability and the total circumference the crane can cover in which personnel are not within the lift zone is a good one...slings and bolts too...the load and the crane capacity..hmmm...in fact i have to go bk to my igc

good good one

Allwility:
Overall crane operation entails crane inspection, proper site coordination and site restrictions.

In my facility it is not a routine ops so it requires a PTW and comes with a checklist. I may not remember all but here's about the basics.
Check for operators competence/ qualifications.
Check the cranes maintenance and inspection records.
You also inspect for possible hydraulic, air or oil leaks.
Other things you should check for are structural deficiencies, secure counter weights, functional controls, running line of the main hoist drum and load charts.
Warning signs and lights should be checked. You can ask the operator to reverse the crane. Ensure its backup beeper gives off alarms that are above the noise level of the site. The crane should be rotated to check for clearance and overall stability. You should also check for jerky movements during operations. The tires should also be checked for cuts and wears. The boom, brakes and clutch should also be checked for proper operation.

These are the much I can reel off my head at the moment.
CareerRe: Any HSE Professionals In The House? by ken1982: 6:57pm On Jul 21, 2015
please bro what do u mean pre inspection checks by your own team...one thing i observed is that the pre-inspection checks are not thorough here where i work so i rely on visual checks like oil leaks and cranky noises or exhaust fumes to raise probable alarm...

my main question is for your inspection team are they like a team of engineers or mechanics that hv experience with fixing heavy equipment

Allwility:
You're spot on! An incident happened at my facility sometime last year which made me wary of regulatory officials. We were behind schedule on an installation project due to the unavailability of mobile cranes to perform some lifting operations. The available ones were not suitable for the loads to be lifted. So an order was placed for the right crane from another state. Some few distance to the facility the crane was stopped by some safety inspectors attached to the local district. They okayed the crane certifying it fit for use (I later learnt money was used to grease some palms).
However, when the crane got to the facility, I took one look at the crane and wrote it off immediately. The project manager was livid saying govt safety officers had okayed the crane and if I had any objections I should talk to our HQ. Few hours later and the crane was dropping loads. Near misses here and there! The project manager later came and was like " Safety! Person go die here o! Write the gaddam thing off!"

Safety should never be compromised! Now I make sure all pre- inspection checks are carried out by my own team.

Check your mails... Nebosh IGC and IOGC materials have been sent.

No more requests, lets discuss and answer the questions.

Anyone asking about the potentials and opportunities in HSE should take time to read through the thread.
Those questions have been asked and answered several times.

We should be discussing more advanced stuff at this stage... Thanks

to add to that an incidence is a sign that in future an accident may occur due to a trend scenario of series of incidences like near miss or dangerous occurrence
zeongeon:
Very good one we are learning.

Incidence can be said to be events or series of events that can lead to loss of life, injury, illness, damage to property, environment or reputation while Accident are unplanned and unfortunate events that results to illness, injury, death, damage to property, environment or reputation.

We can say with the above definitions that an incident are events such as near misses, dangerous occurrences that can lead to or cause accidents.

Accidents are probable end results or product of an Incidence. Hence the saying all accidents are incidence but not all incidence are accidents.

Audit is a structured process of collecting independent information about the efficiency, effectiveness and reliability of a companies hse mgt system. Supervision is the process of ensuring that workforce and site conditions are being followed in reference to safety measures put in place. while supervision checks on site working conditions the audit checks the system which a company has put in place to autorun its hse matters

good offer...take it.

koolmd:
Hello House,

Urgent suggestion from folks in Dubai, a friend is almost at the point of accepting a Managerial Job with a company in Dubai. He's done 3 Stages of Skype interviews.

The company according to him is at Dubai World Central, he wants to know if USD 5000/month he proposed to accept is not a bad deal for the cost of daily living in dubai and of course savings bearing in mind that the company said he will be responsible for his own accommodation. They promised him two annual return tickets to his home country (Nigeria) & health coverage.

Your responses will go a long way to help in this decision making, the person is employed in Nigeria and want to be sure before resigning.

Pay for doctors in dubai if you are lucky to get one is between 15000-20000aed, Abu dhabi is between 22 to 28 depending on the region. To be licensed you have to go thru dataflow and then dha screening and dha exam, usually doesnt take so much time if your school and mdcn decide to reply to thier queries early. if you have any further questions i can answer.

Rapmoney:
I know majority of Nigerians too lazy to read but it pays to most times cheesy

Below are some common fallacies most Nigerian guys have been pressured and deceived over the years to believe cool. You might hold a different opinion from these but emerging 'trends' and 'happenstances' in our society clearly point to the fact that these common beliefs no longer hold weight and logic and therefore, may be seen as nonsense!

1) #You can only find someone who truly loves you when you are still struggling#: Bullcrap! Nonsense! So we were told while we were younger! Now, we know better cheesy. It is as good as saying 'only poor men find real love'. Imagine that!!! It means 2Face Idibia must have married a bad wife; a woman who doesn't have real love for him because he met her after he attained fame! How fallacious this sounds! Whether you like it or not, there are classes in our society and one should strive to attain the class he feels he wants his would-be wife to come from wink. I just feel people who still hold this opinion are suffering from a psychology that promotes inferiority complex! Finding a good wife or a woman that truly loves you has nothing to do with struggling! If you are comfortable and finds a woman that is as comfortable as you and in your class, would you say she's after your wealth? huh

2) #Even if there's no money, when we give birth, children will bring blessings#: Don't allow anyone deceive you, folks. Yeah, blessings come but do not put the life of somebody's daughter at risk and endangering the lives of the tiny legs you would produce because you don't have enough to cater for them!!! Even Jesus Christ, in the Bible(the synoptic gospels), admonished Christians to calculate the cost of something before embarking on it, else the enemies mock the person that he couldn't maintain what he started wink (call me Pastor Rapmoney grin) Truth be told, it would take the grace of God to maintain peace and ensure fidelity in a home that lacks money in these modern times!

3) #Beautiful women have bad attitude#: We can as well say 'ugly women have nice attitude huh No one is perfect! What you might admire in someone could be different from what the next man would admire in them. Who says a woman cannot be beautiful within and in the outside? huh It doesn't mean you should place all your bets on big buttocks, pointed boobs and pretty face but I tell you today, marrying a woman who is very presentable doesn't make you a fool or criminal! I love beautiful women cheesy

4)#A man should set a woman up financially#: Another bunkum!!! Marriage involves two people who are emotionally, psychologically, spiritually and financially mature! I strongly believe that ladies should as well be financially ready before they get married. It is not just a man's thing. If he goes out to win the bread, you as the woman, should also go out to win the akara. You would attract more respect by such from the man. Men hardly misbehave when they are aware that their wife is financially strong too cool. It is better to marry a woman that has acquired her degree or into one profession, business, trade or occupation than to get married to a woman who does nothing, sits and folds her hands, waiting for a man to come and marry her in order to take away her burden! Are you getting married to a human being or a burden? huh

5) #Money is not all; what matters is love#: This is what most girls use to deceive guys on social media, including Nairaland. I always say it that it is only on NL and other social media that girls are quick to say this trash! Most girls can't practise it in real life. They only say this to create what I call 'social media good face' cool. Same girl that says this online will operate in the opposite offline. Don't let them fool ya fellas!!! cheesy. Don't believe this! If you believe this, then you will surely believe anything. It existed in the past...not now. The society has transformed to something else and it is either you follow up or get left behind; simple truth! Make good money and you won't even have time to listen to such trash!!!

A word is enough for the wise!

Good day folks!
PoliticsRe: The Dumbness Of The “convoy ” Story: Buhari Should Stop Deceiving Nigerians by ken1982: 9:06pm On May 25, 2015
BRO ...WHAT ARE YOU SAYING...BUHARI SAID HE IS NOT INTERESTED IN USING THE RIDE COS HE HAS OTHER ARRANGEMENTS...HE PROBABLY MADE THE ARRANGEMENTS FOR HIS SAFETY TOO...

NAWA

Dollar101:
The dumbness of the “CONVOY ” story:
BUHARI and APC SHOULD STOP DECEIVING NIGERIANS

■ While Nigerians are praying for the health of their president-elect, General Buhari, the APC was in fact celebrating the fact that he turned down the use of convoy and exotic cars in London. For clarity, Prime Ministerial Rolls-Royce cars are not exotic but presidential.
I think that we should start Buhari-APC orientation on this page, since they jumped that session in Aso-Rock for a UK escapade.
------------------------------------
■ Presidential convoy is a mandatory process not a treat. A convoy simply entails the guest or VIP travelling in a group consisting of aides and security for protection. With our dead memories, have we forgotten how a Nigerian leader, Murtala Muhammed was killed with his aide-de-camp on February 13, 1976? Nigerians equally praise him for driving without a convoy until his car was ambushed on the way to his office at Dodan Barracks, Lagos.
------------------------------------
■ Just like the United States and Cadillac, in the UK, Rolls-Royce is ‘Prime Ministerial’ and officially used by the Prime Minister and other government dignitaries. Prime Ministerial Cars are NOT “exotic” but are designed for respect, security and protection.
------------------------------------
■ Buhari and APC must realize that the presidential position has standards that must be upheld. If Buhari wants to use Okada, he must save that for his Daura retirement, but as the president, he must adhere to official protocol. In this system, he must understand the distinction between a representative process and pugilistic military orders.
------------------------------------
■ Managing ethics is not about turning down an air ticket for a boat ride; it is not about an executive president using a public transportation rather than a mandatory official convoy. These are mere disgraceful window-dressing that bear no relevance to the values of moral supervision and practice. Moral decency shapes moral people, but they are rather practiced than displayed.
------------------------------------
■ How can Buhari turn down an official convoy, but did not turn down millions of stolen dollars and hundreds of corrupt politicians that ran his campaign? How can Buhari turn down an official convoy, but did not turn down Tinubu’s “exotic” private jet? How can Buhari turn down official convoy as “exotic?” whereas he is yet to account for a missing 25 billion naira he personally handled as the chairman of the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) between 1998-99? How can Buhari make claims of fighting corruption while already, he is engaging the same corrupt politicians for his regime?
------------------------------------
■ Buhari and APC should stop deceiving Nigerians about corruption. It may be impracticable for Buhari to embrace an ethical environment without first of all cleaning his filthy campaign financiers, and of course the APC environment besieged by the very hooligans that sucked the country dry.
