Getting to know the soils in your area As explained in our previous post, it's difficult to make any useful generalizations about the soils of the tropics and subtropics. Soil-forming factors like climate, parent rock, time, topography, vegetation, and management interact in countless patterns. It's not unusual to find two or more soils on one small farm that vary markedly in texture, depth, slope, and other important features. Different geagraphycal area has different soil profile and fertility. The reason why some crop grow in certain area and will not grow in other area no matter your input. Consult kenfarm on 08038623884 for more detail Cheers!! |

Soil Colour: If The colour of the soil is reddish – brown down the profile. The red colour shows that the soil has adequate iron which are component of clay minerals while light brown colour showed that sand are more in the soil. However, clay mineral play a major role in nutrient adsorption which help in holding cations (Ca4, mg4, K+ and Na+) on the surface of the clay mineral for contact exchange. Also, the clay content will help in holding water in the soil when the sand content of the soil drains water due to large macro pores of the sand. |
Do you know that Peeling of the corm delays the development of nematode infestation, while cutting of the pseudo stem reduces bulkiness and improves early growth of the newly planted sucker. Kenfarm still have suckers to supply in large Qty as well as giant elephant fruit |

Client Query below Thanks for the information. Kindly assist with the analysis of revenue/income that will be generated in one acre to cover your cost analysis in the quote to make profit. Thanks. Hope to hear from you soon. Kenfarm response below When u plant 1000 suckers it means you expecting to harvest 1000bunches if yu did not experience wind falling any stand. A bunch is #1000 or more. So you expect to make 1M from your one acre. However, you can not make your 1M in one season as all bunches can not grow fruit same time. So the 1M is a cumulative saving of sells for like 3season. The good news is if you plant in May 2019, by July 2020 you will be harvesting a cumulative of 200-300 bunches. In July 2021 you will harvest another 200-300 bunches or even more. So in 3season you should make out your 1M. By July 2021, your one acre will be having up to 2000 stands of suckers so it keep multiplying every season All these info are not from google. It the experience I have gathered from this Biz over the years But let me quickly say that whether or not you get the above depends on 1. If you buy your sucker from the right source 2. If you take adequate care of the farm 3. If you analyse the soil to know what level of fertilizer to apply, what type and what method to apply 4. How well you control weed 5. How knowledgeable is your farm keeper 6. If your farm is not in area where the fruit will be stolen even before it get mature enough to command good market price. I can go on and on but contact kenfarm for more detail after buying our hybrid suckers Hybrid treated Giant Elephant suckers still available at a friendly price Cheers!! |

It may interest you to know that the following also destroy soil fertility: 1. Erosion: Erosion wash away the top soil which is rich in organic content there by exposing the top soil to high rate of era transpiration. It also wash away nutrients in the soil making the soil loose and lack essential nutrients. If the soil has not been put to use for 50yrs, have you been preventing erosion on the soil for 50yrs? 2. Poor organic content in the soil 3. High percentage of sand and low percentage of clay in the soil 4. Climatic condition of the farm location 5. Reduced Microbial activities on the soil as a result of intense bush burning during land preparation or due to unfavorable environmental condition. Are you aware that continuous application of chemical like NPK, herbicide, pesticide and the likes compromise your soil CEC and fertility generally? A farm that these chemicals are apply to over a long period of time goes to a state if desertification. Thus, just buy a farm land and invest huge sum of cash cultivating the farm land without ascertain the fertility. Most land are cultivated with chemicals. Do test that farm land before you cultivate and save yourself water of time and cash |

A Quick tip for our esteem clients: Preparing suckers Suckers are separated from their mother plant with a spade or machete. The sucker corm must not be damaged or chipped. Consequently the corm should be carefully peeled with a machete. The pseudo stem of the suckers should be cut off a few centimeters above the corm. Peeling of the corm delays the development of nematode infestation, while cutting of the pseudo stem reduces bulkiness and improves early growth of the newly planted sucker. Ensure you also look out for early symptoms of Fungi infection on your plantain farm as late identification my make it impossible to control for the manifestation. Kenfarm can help you have a pictorial examination of your plantain plantation to identify early symptoms of fungi. We can not give you concise confirmation of whether or not your farm is having manifestation of fungi attack unless we visit your farm take sample and analyse for presence of fungi and type of fungi with remedy. But picture sent to us may just help us give you useful clues. Cheers!! |
We are still in the Biz of selling suckers......hybrid sucker still available |
The info below is for cross fertilization of ideas and for knowledge sharing: If I have 500palm tree standing on my farm and I want to apply 100g of MgSo2 fertilizer on each stand. If a bag of MgSo2 contain 50kg of MgSo2, how many bags of MgSo2 will I need to cover the 500palms? Solution: Generally, 1000g makes 1kg A bag of 50kg MgSo2 is 50,000g So each bag of 50kg MgSo2 contain 50,000grammes If each palm requires 100g That means 500Palm tree X 100g = 50,000 (the total gram needed for the 500palm tree) You need just a bag Of 50kg for the 500stands if you are applying 100g per stand How do you known what you applying is 100g?? We arrive at 100g by doing a soil test of the soil which indicated the Qty of Mg in the soil and Qty needed to be added. Meaning that the Qty to add is a function of palm spacing and Qty of Mg available in your soil. Do not just start applying any Qty of fertilizer to your farm soil but do a comprehensive soil test with us first and take informed decision base on report we give. |

Client Query: How do you sell your plantain ensuring to rip you off?? Good Q, but I need to tell you I did not take it to any market. If I did it won't be bought for such a handsome price. However, when my plantation was 7months old, I started doing market survey to find out the best set if buyer. I keep visiting the buyers to review the price they are willing to buy my plantain. In the course of my market survey, I realised the boli sellers price offer was way too low.....why You may ask........I find out from them that this is the season for roasting maize. So all of them prefare to rost and sell maize and not plantain. Especially because this is the period plantain is way expensive for them to trade.... So I opted to sell my Giant Elephant plantain to whole sellers and consumers who where willing to buy a bunch for 2-3k and a dozen for 25k. All i did was spend the whole day driving round town, meeting with all plantain wholesellers, collecting their numbers, documenting it and when I harvested I just put a call through to them and sold it to highest bidder. In all, you need to create your own market for your farm produce. However, if you want kenfarm to market your produce, we charge an agreed % Cheers!

We visited our experimental farm today for accessment after instructing my workers to cut down the weed. Just two weeks after, see how mature the weeds are again. I am around to apply herbicide to suppress the weed for possibly 4weeks The bad news is that about 170suckers holding bunches which would have mature by now so I can sell off to make huge profit now that plantain is very expensive in the market was unfortunately fallen by wiid early last month. Wind elimination is one of the risk of plantain farming Biz that we plantain farmer is yet to control for. But the good news is I have enough sucker to transplant to my newly acquired farm and have enough to sell to cover up for the lose in plantain fruit.
