I am really sad now , how can 60% of population leaves in a land mass of less than 6% that is Kibera slums, the government may be trying but the slum dwellers keeps increase as a result of high cost of housing in the tiny developed part of nairobi,I really don't see it getting improved any time soon as your government as politicized it and concentrate mostly of its development on CBD and SGR (which average Kenyans complains about the high cost of it )
don't forget that CBD is mostly for business, this slum dwellers goes to CBD to hustle then goes back to their slums.
I also realised that their are worst slums than Kibera, I learnt that Kibera is a child play in comparison with slums like mathare and others.
lastly, your government mostly concentrate on Kibera forgetting that more slums are coming up an the current slums are expanding like wildfire, take mathare for instance, a small place with population of 500000 people, all Africa countries have slums but kenya slums is on a different level.
the more you chase them from Kibera the more they move to other slums .fact.

Nigerians like dwelling negativity a lot.... "Kibera slum" as you call it is currently undergoing massive transformation. New schools, health facilities, amenities and major infrastructural change. I will share the transformation here.

Lovely thread OP. I have visited Kenya a few times and loved every minute of my time there. Infact, I consider myself more Kenyan than Nigerian because I not only lived there on and off for a couple of months, but I also dated a cute little Kenyan lady at some point. I spent most of my time in Kenya up North in the rural suburbs like Nanyuki and Isiolo due to the nature of my job then, I really enjoyed living in the remote towns. Kenya is an amazing country where things actually work as the should, it will take Nigeria a good few years to get to the point Kenya is at the moment. The respect they have for their wildlife alone is something Nigerians should emulate. You need to try their food i.e. Ugali + vegetables + barbecue meat/fish. This thread fills me with nostalgic memories.

I understand your concern but don't get worked up about it. If something is nice appreciate it. What has Nigerian government done to boost tourism? Their main focus has been Oil sector. Op went to Kenya and he is sharing his experience, it's not his fault that the place has been developed, Kenyan government took advantage of their resource which is wildlife and it has boosted their economy via tourism. Oil sector in Nigeria is still struggling to stabilize Local Content. People spend their money where they seem fit.

Compared to other African countries, Kenya is doing well, but development in Kenya is not as widely spread as Nigeria.

I have likened Kenya to the father who has many multiple kids but decides to feed only a few with all it's rescources till they're well fattened, leaving the others to starve, WHILE Nigeria is the father who divides his limited rescources equally among all his children, ensuring everyone gets a taste.

Stop being naive... You are being informed by a person who hates Kenya not because it is bad but coz it hearts him to know it is better than his country.

During the two weeks I spent in Nairobi, I did not see a single generating set on the streets. Power was steady and security sure. Visit their banks to see how organised they run businesses. Kenyans employ mechanised farming, no wonder they export flowers on a daily basis to Europe. Kenya, even though a small country, is managing it's resources well.

Same cannot be said of Nigeria, the big brother of Africa!

After successfully reading from PG 1-18, These are my deductions so far.
Kenya is beautiful, No doubt, With the little resources Kenya has got, it has a better development as compared to Nigeria. With the resources Nigeria has got, we ought to have moved past this stage that we are.
Development is all about basic amenities, such as stable electricity , good road, infrastructure,,water etc. which many parts of Nigeria seem to be lacking at the moment.
Thanks for the picture and insight, at least I now have a few countries to visit.
For everyone reading , commenting,observing , I hail o and as for the internet muscle flexing individuals, stop the hatred, Learn something new by minimizing your ignorance.

During my stay at Nairobi, I met some traders at the Masai market who upon knowing that I am a Nigerian, teased me. they said, "you Nigerians have no wildlife. You kill every animal in Nigeria and prepare pepper soup with it". I was ashamed but that is the bitter truth.

Imagine the revenue that tourism yields for the Kenyans. Tourist visit Nairobi just to have a feel of their wildlife....
Indeed Nigeria has a long way to go to catch up with Kenya.
