Car Talk / Re: What Advice Would You Give A First Time Owner, And Which Car Will You Recommend? by kernniejay(m): 10:48pm On Jul 03, 2023
Fuadeiza:
Someone with a budget of 3 - 3.5m is looking to buy a car for the first time. They don’t go out often but stay in an area with relatively bad roads.

What advice will you give them ?

Things to look out for while inspecting the car?

They have Camry > 08/09 in mind, and also Lexus es350 08.

Please advice.
If I'm in your shoe I will go for either 2006 CRV or RAV 4 for ground clearance due to the relatively bad road as you said. They are both easy and less costly to maintain.
However, on things to look out for, car engine has to be running for you to check the following:
Check exhaust to be sure car is not smoking or having foul smell, Check cooling fans if it's not been directed, Listen to engine to be sure no pinging sound, Test drive to check that all gears are working well.
Other Checks: Check under body for rust, Check custom papers, Check interior for wear and tears. Check instrument cluster for "check engine light" (though may not matter if you don't have a scan tool).
Finally, you may copy the VIN for online comprehensive history and condition of vehicle.
Cheers!

That Pathfinder is known to be very inconsiderate with its owner on the issue of fuel. Even from its voice when revved, you can easily see that it will be a fuel guzzler.
Car Talk / Re: The Rate At Which Fuel Burn So Fast Right Now Scares Me by kernniejay(m): 10:21pm On Jul 03, 2023
RoadMozart:
Most times its the rubbish they sell in all these fuel stations.

I met a man that came to fix his range rover where I fix my car. His problem was that he filled his tank of 100 litres with fuel but when the mechanic emptied the contents of the tank, we all saw more than 25 litres of water. The dude almost went berserk.

These fuel people now dilute their fuel with water.
I don't think that they dilute their fuel with water. What happens in most cases is that when rain falls, water gets into their underground fuel storage if it's not properlly sealed, their fuel pump will suck the mixture and nozzle will dispense both water and fuel into vehicles' fuel tank.
No filling station will intentionally dilute fuel with water, such will damage customers' car now and not only will they lose customers, their reputation will also go for it and they may be sued for a very serious criminal offence.

Most reliable ever. #3500 fuel took me from Lag-Akure in 2022 despite blasting at 170kmh. No electrical issues, my manual gearbox was wonderful.

Lost the car in a fire accident February this year when a Dangote truck hit me where I parked by the roadside.
Benz c200
Woooow, sorry for the loss. Hope you were compensated by the Dangote company? Have you got another car?

Since then I have not had the opportunity to try my hand with any bike. My friend later bought a power bike later after leaving school but I got a car.

Thank you. Does your Dell have good battery backup. Does this Dell Inspiron 7373 have good backup?

Would like to know about battery life . Thank you
The Dell I'm currently using is not doing bad at 3hrs battery power, Lenovo may boast of 7hrs battery but when you need ruggedness and durability, Dell or HP are the American bullet proofs. Lenovo is Taiwan.

Lenovo bawo? Don't bring Lenovo into the conversation abeg, the guy is asking for recommendation between HP and Dell, nothing like Lenovo in his options.
@OP, Basically, both Dell and HP are equal in quality. Dell is very strong and has beauriful aesthetic design. HP is also very strong and durable but not as beautiful as Dell. Both are americans. I'm currently using Dell and its okay, I am planning to get HP next.

Back in 2013/2014, I used to stay at the bus stop for hours especially on monday morning looking for commercial bus to board to work and it was always worrisome for me, so I started scouting the internet for any simple and easy to maintain car. Found a Honda Accord, Nigerian used for sale with a very very low price. Went there, inspected, test drove and saw many issues which made the price so low. Well, I made a bargain and seller agreed. Bought the car, and later started repair works and replacement of bad parts on it gradually till it was okay enough.

A 2.0 turbocharged 4 cylinder? VW wants to make a speed monster Golf and at same time, still maintain that 4 cylinder tradition of Golf lineage. Just like a Peugeot 508 turbocharged 4 cylinder I came across recently, economy and performance combined. Not a bad idea I must say.
Family / Re: How Do I Handle My Hyper-active Daughter, She's Barely 3years by kernniejay(m): 2:51pm On Jul 02, 2023
Mister123:
Hello guys. Greetings to you. Please don't mind muy grammar, I'm not here for English classes lol.
My first child's almost 3years, trust me that girl can be playing and roaming about 24/7. As long as she's not asleep, her mum and I are always talking, don't do this, don't do that. Sometimes I lose my cool you know. I'm planing to enroll her into a conventional school by September because she seems really smart. My question here is, how do I handle her, she can't just stay in one place and our apartment is not really safe for her to be playing outside.
Parents and expert in the house please assist a brother with an idea of what to do.
Thank you
Don't discourage her hyper activeness. Rather, buy a lot of toys for her (not children's android gadget yet), I'm sure she will have a short span of attention for TV but still show more educational kiddies programs for her on TV. Dont forget the toy aspect I mentioned, especially toys that develop creativity such as those construction boxes and simple puzzles for children. It will channel her energy into creativity and help in developing her skills later as she is growing. As others have said, always watch her and keep harmful objects in safe places. My regards to her and the family.
Politics / Re: Nigeria's Subsidy: Prioritizing Corruption Over Citizens ( USA, CND, FRANCE) by kernniejay(m): 2:22pm On Jul 02, 2023
In the Democracy day message, President Bola Tinubu urged the masses to endure the hardship, counting it as a necessary sacrifice to be made to achieve a better Nigeria. I wonder why it is always the poor people that are meant to suffer and make sacrifice to achieve a better country while the ruling class continue to enjoy the largesse.
We have never heard that the politicians will be having a cut in their salary or numerous allowances to save the country some money, it is the already suffocated populace that will be further strangulated for the country to save cost. We all read the outrageous benefits the compulsorily retired service chiefs will be going away with in a country that is hugely indebted both internally and externally.
Anyway, I wont blame the people in power because they have a very tolerant citizenry that can only rant for a while and thereafter, find a way of adapting to the new level of hardship no matter how unlivable life may become for them (just like they now find a way of powering their generators with gas due to their inability to afford petrol anymore), and when another opportunity to make a choice of leaders comes, they still vote for their tormentors because they are blessed with short memory.
Foreign Affairs / Re: APC Rejects Sierra Leone’s General Elections Results, Demands Re-run, Travel Ban by kernniejay(m): 1:52pm On Jul 02, 2023
Ceejay222:
Sierra Leone’s main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has rejected results of the 24 June 2023 general elections and called on Sierra Leoneans “to play their part in resisting tyranny and fight for the restoration of democracy, civility and good governance” in the country.

It further “demands the resignation of the following: Fayia Sellu, the Inspector-General of Police; Major General Patrick Lavahun, the Chief of Defence Staff; Abdulai Caulker, the National Security Coordinator; Francis Langumba Keili, the Chief of Staff of the Office of the ONS; and Desmond Babatunde Edwards, the Chief Justice,” alleging that “these individuals have shown a clear disregard for their constitutional duties and have instead aligned themselves with the undemocratic aspirations of (President) Julius Maada Bio.”

The APC also “urges international development partners to impose travel bans on key individuals who have played instrumental roles in stealing the mandate of the Sierra Leonean people,” including re-elected President Maada Bio and his wife, ministers of foreign affairs, information, internal affairs, Chief of defence staff, Inspector General of Police, Coordinator of the Office of National Security, deputy justice minister and the deputy Speaker of parliament.
African country leaders are either produced by rigged elections or military coup de tat. Wait o, did I just read APC, anything APC is synonymous with chaos and fraud, either for it or against it. And again, I saw Desmond Babatunde, that should be a yoruba descent, hope Sierra Leone is not an extension of Nigeria Leon?
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: My Office Refused To Remit Pension by kernniejay(m): 1:19pm On Jul 02, 2023
1. To start with, you really have to be sure that your Pension Fund Administrators (PFA) were truly not getting your pension contributions from the company, therefore, contact them first and make enquiries. If they say the company did not remit to them, then take the next step.
2. Write two letters, one to PENCOM and the other to the Inland Revenue Service (IRS) or Joint Tax Board (JTB) whichever is applicable, in your state reporting that your former company fails to remit both your pension deductions to your appropriate PFA and tax deductions to the Revenue Service. Ensure you attach evidence of the deductions i.e. Payslips and PFA statement of account. The concerned authorities will surely pick interest and that company will be in trouble especially as regards tax. You can google the addresses of both PENCOM and IRS / JTB.

Politics / Re: President Tinubu Visits Oba Of Lagos (Pictures) by kernniejay(m): 4:27am On Jul 02, 2023
Why are those people in the photos still hailing Tinubu despite that they are buying fuel at N540 per litre and experiencing multi-dimentional poverty? I don't know why africans are so stupid. Why can't people sit in their houses or stay wherever they are when this inhumane leaders are driving by so that they can feel how hated they are by the people? Anyway, poverty is at work so they may be expecting him to throw naira notes into the air for them to catch. In developed countries, any leader that the people are not happy with are either stoned with eggs or are booed to shame in the public, but here we hail them and give them the wrong notion that they are the best thing ever happened to us. It seems like the more Nigerians suffer, the better they feel.

I am surprised that Davido's billionaire father and his uncle (the Osun state governor) are not cautioning him to thread gently on these escapes. This is becoming unbecoming of a star. Davido should take a cue from Burna Boy who is even better good-looking and well known all over the world than he is. Women will flock around a star but self-discipline is the core. My heart is really with Chioma. That young lady has really seen a lot in the house of the Adelekes.
Which Burna Boy? Is it the Burna Boy that asked a married woman to leave her husband and come over to his crib in the nightclub which later caused gun shots to go off and had Burna fly out to France when the issue escalated? None of these celebrity peeps is holy abeg. As the saying goes, na everybody be coded thief but the person wey day break for him turn na him be confirmed 'barawo'.

Just gimme any movie of Roger Moore, Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, Timothy Darlton, Daniel Craig, you know what I mean by these names?
Well, if I see either Chris Hemsworth or Jason Statham, I'm also good to go.
If you don't have those, I wont mind any of Arnorld Schwarzenegger, Dulph Lundgren, Sylvester Stalon, Jean Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris.
If you can't provide any of the above at all, then I can manage Oliver Grunner, Wesley Snipes, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Angelina Jolie, Dwyane 'D Rock' Johnson, John Travolta.
Any movies outside these guys is just a mere cartoon to me.
