Romance › ‘are You Well?’ Actor Van Vicker Questions 45-yr-old Men Yet To Settle Down by KEVIND(op): 1:52pm On Aug 10, 2023 |
Popular Ghanaian actor Van Vicker has questioned the sanity of men at the age of 45 who still engage in talks about their future love and marriage. The thespian implied that men within such bracket should be fully settled matrimonially. Vicker, fondly called the young godfather, said men guilty of such romantic talks should question their sanity. He said, “You’re 45 and you’re talking about your future love and marriage? “I mean, I get it. But you sure say you well? At 45? Come on now.” Recall the actor recently shared his thought on how best to maintain a long-lasting relationship. According to the actor, sharing income and expenses with your partner is vital for a happy marriage. He said,” People always say communication I agree, but for me, I think one of the greatest way to stay together is not to separate your income and expenses. “Being open about your source of income and money is one of the greatest way to stay together. Spend it together, project it together, bring it in together or, if one person is bringing it in, be open about it.” https://twitter.com/vanguardngrnews/status/1689617987731603456?t=4A-vDrBVrjV1sHxMRem7aw&s=01

Politics › Kwankwaso Backs Out Of Tinubu’s Govt Of National Unity by KEVIND(op): 10:56am On Aug 05, 2023 |
Saturday Telegraph can authoritatively confirm that a former Kano State governor, Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has opted out of the Government of National Unity proposed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Close aides of the former governor told our correspondent in exclusive chats that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), will not be part of the new government, citing several reasons. This is coming just as a crisis of confidence is currently brewing within the opposition party as rival factions trade accusations over anti-party activities of members. The source also cited the involvement of personalities with corruption allegations hanging on their necks as one of the reasons it opted out. The source, who is well embedded in the party but who also pleaded not to be named, said the NNPP has however resolved to provide the needed opposition to the All Progressives Congress (APC). “We have decided not to be part of this Government of National Unity and that is official, a source within the party told our correspondent in a telephone chat. “The terms being proposed to us by the government are not too friendly and polite,” a member of the National Working Committee of the party, said on Friday. “We have carefully reviewed the situation on ground with regards to our relationship with the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government and we have decided not to be part of it,” the source said When asked to state what the reservations of the party were, another source close to the former governor cited what he termed, “various anti-people policies of the government. “We have been observing all the programmes, actions and policies of this government since it came on board and we have decided that they (the actions) are clearly anti-people and are at odds with the philosophy and aspirational goals of our party. “We have continued to see people with allegations of corruption and corrupt practices trailing them being made to play an important role in government. “This runs contrary to the ethos and philosophy of our party which is made up of decent and responsible members of the public who are public spirited and development oriented. “Members of the NNPP are patriotic Nigerians who give back to the society and not those who take away from it,” the source added. https://newtelegraphng.com/kwankwaso-backs-out-of-tinubus-govt-of-national-unity/#:~:text=%E2%80%9CWe%20have%20carefully%20reviewed%20the,governor%20cited%20what%20he%20termed%2C%20%E2%80%9C |

Celebrities › Dancing in front of mosque not provocative, don’t apologise, Soyinka tells Davido by KEVIND(op): 10:42pm On Jul 25, 2023 |
Jaye Lo: Dancing in front of mosque not provocative, don’t apologise, Soyinka tells DavidoNobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has said that no apology should be offered by popular Afrobeat artist, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, to some Muslims who are requesting that he apologise over an alleged offensive video clip posted on his social media pages last week. Recall that the DMW owner had posted a 45-second long video clip of his signee, Logos Olori’s new song, ‘Jaye Lo,’ on Friday, July 21, promoting the song ahead of the official release. The video caused controversy as it portrayed men dressed as praying mallams, dancing in front of a mosque in a scene, rather than engaging in prayer. Tribune Online reports that the ‘Fem’ crooner, after coming under heavy criticism, bowed to pressure and deleted the video on Monday. While weighing in with his view on the controversy, Soyinka in a letter released Tuesday and titled “Davido Video,” dismissed the claim that dancing in front of a mosque is an act of provocation, insisting that it is an “affirmation of the unified sensibility of the spiritual in human.” Reacting to the calls for an apology to the Muslim community by Senator Sheu Sani and some other aggrieved Muslims, Soyinka said, “It should come as no surprise that I equally and absolutely disagree with Shehu Sani if indeed, as reported, he has demanded an apology from Davido on behalf of the Muslim community. “No apology is required, None should be offered. Let us stop battening down our heads in the mush of contrived contrition – we know where contrition, apology, and restitution remain clamorous in the cause of closure and above all – justice.” more read: https://tribuneonlineng.com/jaye-lo-dancing-in-front-of-mosque-not-provocative-dont-apologise-soyinka-tells-davido/ |

How we used religion to give Tinubu victory – El-Rufai
The former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has said that he and some northern governors used religion as a political tool to give victory to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.
According to the former governor, the decision to use religion as a political strategy was to help tackle the issue of tribalism and religion in politics in the country.
The former governor stated this in a viral video. He was speaking to an audience in the Hausa language in Kaduna at an event before handing over to his successor.
He said, “Allah sees our heart, me and Zamfara State Governor, Mutawalle did it because of God and we didn’t do it because of anything. We only do it in order to have solutions to the current religious problem we are having in Nigeria and for us to give South West Muslims a sense of belonging to rule. And it is because of religion that we used that gave Asiwaju victory.”
He also noted that the Muslim/Muslim ticket that he used to achieve political success in Kaduna has now been replicated in Nigeria with the emergence of Bola Tinubu as president and Kashim Shetima as vice president.
He said, “What we are able to achieve in Kaduna state now has been achieved in Nigeria as a whole. There is no liar that will come and say he will do politics as a Christian and win an election. Even Peter Obi didn’t win.”
He stated that he alongside other northern governors successfully pushed for the emergence of a Yoruba Muslim from the South West as president despite opposition from some quarters
El Rufai speaking in Hausa said in part, “Concerning the Presidential government, what Professor Akintola said is true. We the Northern governors agreed that the presidential position should go back to the West. It was a verbal promise but a promise whether written or spoken, God knows.
“When we saw some people plotting for presidential position to remain in the North, we disagreed, we are not like that. We said we are Muslims and we have our traditions and we cannot go back on our words. That was the first step. The second step is after we all agreed or they realised that they cannot do anything, we will tackle the issue of tribalism and religion in politics in this country. We agreed that we will support BAT.
“When we had that agreement I was not on good terms with him, (Tinubu), we were fighting. But Professor Akintola and their leaders came from Lagos and said this is their thought If power is given to the West since we all agreed that it should be given to them the Yoruba people from the South-West have a problem, their Muslims cannot contest, and win an election. A Christian will have to contest and have a Muslim from the North as a vice. They said since from Abiola it had never happened. They said they wanted that and I asked them to bring the person we will support and BAT got the ticket. We knew he will have to take a Muslim as his vice.”
He added, “What we are able to achieve in Kaduna state now has been achieved in Nigeria as a whole. There's no liar that will come and say he will do politics as a Christian and win the election. Even Peter Obi didn't win.”

Politics › Fact Check: Did Obi Request 7 Weeks From Tribunal To Produce Witnesses? by KEVIND(op): 9:42pm On May 21, 2023 |
A report had claimed the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Saturday, May 20, demanded seven weeks to produce witnesses to establish his case at the Presidential Election Petition Court.
Mr Peter Obi during pre-hearing of his petition against Bola Tinubu of All Progressives Congress (APC) was quoted to have made the statement while addressing the court through his team of lawyers led by Prof. Awa Kalu, SAN.
According to reports, Obi allegedly constrained to demand for the seven weeks, owing to “a few hiccups” he encountered at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“My lords, we still have a few hiccups at INEC because of the order that was made by this court on March 8, directing them to allow us to carry out a forensic examination of the BVAS. They have not allowed us.
“We are also waiting for some documents we requested from them,” Obi’s counsel, Prof Kalu was quoted as saying in the report.
Checks by TRIBUNE ONLINE revealed the report was misrepresentation of what Obi’s counsel presented before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
The spokesperson for the LP candidate has also debunked the viral report.
“Peter Obi did not ask the court to give him seven weeks to bring in his witnesses. He only implied he will be through with all 50 of them in seven weeks.
“In proposing his schedule of witnesses, Eme Awa Kalu, SAN leading the team in court, had told the court that Peter Obi and Labour Party would be presenting 50 witnesses and that these 50 witnesses, will require 7 weeks to present their evidence before the Tribunal.
“At no time did the Counsel say that he required ‘Seven weeks to produce witnesses’ as misreported by the Punch. The correct interpretation of what our lawyers told the court unambiguously is that the presentation of our witnesses, from start to finish, will take seven weeks. We are not asking the court to wait for seven weeks before we bring in the first witness as the Punch story tries to imply.
“It is expected that every media house will assign competent reporters to cover this important case.
We expect the Punch Newspaper to immediately correct this misrepresentation with the same front page headline with which it was presented to the public,” Diran Onifade, Head, Obi-Datti Media said in a statement obtained by TRIBUNE ONLINE on Sunday. https://tribuneonlineng.com/fact-check-did-obi-request-7-weeks-to-present-witnesses/
