Fulanisation through conquest of the South was the sole reason Buhari have been contesting since 2003. Buhari weep when he lost in 2011 general election not because of his interest in entrenching democratic principles but to realise his long time dream of Fulanisation agenda.
Now that he is incharge,It's almost too late for the South, especially the South West.

Business › AT&T Reportedly Looking To Sell CNN After 'hit' From 'hating Trump by KEVIND(op): 7:43am On Nov 15, 2020
AT&T is reportedly $150 billion in debt

AT&T is reportedly looking at selling CNN to pay its massive debt, but the cable news company may have hit its peak "hating Trump," Fox Business Network senior correspondent Charlie Gasparino argued Friday.

"CNN does not have Donald Trump to kick around anymore and their ratings will take a hit," he told "Tucker Carlson Tonight," given the current projected presidential election results.

IS JEFF BEZOS INTERESTED IN BUYING CNN?

He reports that AT&T is "financially unstable" with $150 billion in debt.

"They need to cut costs. There's an active investor out there," Gasparino said.

Despite the low odds of any deal in the immediate future, a sale of CNN to billionaire Jeff Bezos would make sense from both sides, media investment bankers tell FOX Business.

"I'm not a CNN hater. They have a lot of good journalists there," Gasparino said.

"This rumor is real," he said. "AT&T is a screwed up company and ... CNN like a lot of media companies, it may have hit its peak, hating Trump."

Politics › Kogi State Bread Levy/Tax by KEVIND(op): 9:51pm On Nov 12, 2020
The Kogi state government has introduced a levy on every loaf of bread baked in the state.

The state ministry of commerce and industry said the levy is aimed at improving the internally generated revenue.

But the state chapter of the Association of Master bakers and Caterers of Nigeria (AMBCN) told TheCable on Thursday that the bakers are against the levy.

An executive member of the association simply identified as Godfirst said the association has begun moves to meet with the consultant the state charged with collecting the fee.

Godfirst said they received a memo from the ministry imposing a levy to be paid “on each loaf of bread” produced.

“The letter was sent to us that a consultant has been given the job to generate fund from bakery to state government; to generate revenue to (for the) state government,” he said.

“We are trying to meet with the consultant but we have not been able to meet with him. We want to meet with him to give us more explanation.”

He said bakers in the state are experiencing hardship occasioned by the pandemic and will not be able to meet the new demand.

“We are not happy about it, presently there is no market. We are facing different types of challenges, and if they are now asking us to pay another tax, we don’t know how we can cope,” he said.

Kingsley Fanwo, the state commissioner for information, was not available for comments when TheCable called his phone number.

Politics › Payment Of N1000 Development Levy By Kaduna Residents by KEVIND(op): 8:28am On Nov 12, 2020
The tax law in Kaduna mandates every adult residing in the state to pay N1,000 annually as development levy.

The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) said on Wednesday that it would commence full implementation of its proposed N1,000 annual Development Levy on all adult residents of the state in 2021.

The Executive Chairman of the agency, Dr Zaid Abubakar said at a news conference in Kaduna, that as from 2021, every adult residing in the state would be made to pay the levy in line with the provision of Section 9 (2) of the Kaduna State Tax Codification and Consolidation Law, 2020.

He added that the law mandated every adult residing in the state to pay N1,000 annually as development levy as their contribution to transform the infrastructure of the state and reposition the economy to meet the yearnings of the people.

“This will only be achieved by payment of taxes and levies, which will be ploughed back into the economy for the residents to enjoy the dividend of democracy.

“As the name implies, the development levy is for the development of the state. We are all living witnesses of the economic transformation taking place in the state.

“This is evident with the ongoing massive roads construction, renovation, upgrade and equipping of hospitals and schools, and provision of the needed infrastructure for development to thrive,’’ he said.

Abubakar explained that the levy was based on the constitutional provision that allows states to collect an amount, on annual basis, from residents, designated as either development levy or economic development levy.

The chairman said that the amount could be any amount depending on what the national or state assemblies determined in the tax law, stressing that the development levy had been in place in Kaduna state for over 50 years, with residents hitherto paying N100 annually, but with little enforcement.

He explained that the recent review of the state’s tax law increased the amount from N100 to N1,000 in line with current economic realities.

“We ought to have commenced enforcement since January 2020 but extended it to 2021 due to COVID-19 lockdown and its accompanying economic hardship.

“But there will be full enforcement beginning from 2021, in accordance with the provisions of the state and other relevant tax laws,” he said.

The chairman said that the levy would be collected by KADIRS in collaboration with the 23 Local Government Areas of the state and traditional rulers, adding that the modalities would be made public soon.

Politics › South West Leaders Call On Buhari To Open Nigeria’s Land Borders by KEVIND(op): 7:20am On Nov 10, 2020
THE southwest governors and traditional rulers have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to reopen the prolonged nation’s land borders that have remained closed a year ago, saying it has caused untold economic difficulties to the people, especially those in border communities.

“We believe that the prolonged closure of the border has caused economic difficulties and should be re-examined to alleviate problems of the people in the border communities and prices of some essential commodities. There is a need to review the closure and permit resumption of economic and trading activities,” the leaders said.

This was part of a communiqué issued at the end of stakeholders meeting with President Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Ministers, Inspector General of Police, Director of Department of State Services (DSS), among other security agencies held at Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, on Sunday.

The communiqué which was jointly signed by Rotimi Akeredolu, Ondo State Governor who also is the Chairman of Southwest Governors’ Forum, and His Royal Majesty Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi. the Ooni of Ife, had in attendance all the southwest Governors and key traditional rulers in the region.

The communiqué expressed appreciation to the president and his administration on the responsiveness to the initial demands of the #ENDSARS demonstrators and for his firm handling of the aftermaths of the protest.

The region condemned the fallout of the #ENDSARS protest with its attendant negative consequences in Lagos, and called for specific measures and proposals to repair damage done to physical infrastructures and economic assets of the South West.

“While there are legitimate concerns contained in the initial #ENDSARS movement, these have been hijacked by criminals and other elements with ulterior and negative forces and degenerated into anarchy.

“There is a need to undertake preventive actions aimed at prevention of repeat of what happened in the country following the #ENDSARS demonstrators. Security needs to be strengthened in all states.”

It wants more police presence in communities in the zone as it called for adjustment in the nation’s security architecture to adequately address the threats and realities of insecurity in the country.

“We wish to encourage the Nigeria Police by responding to their needs and appeal to them to do more to protect lives and properties and enhance security all over the the country.”

“We recognize the damaging and negative impact of fake/false news and worry about its destructive and dangerous potency of fake news. We call on the federal government to use the instrumentality of existing laws and those regulations bench-marked from other countries to provide safeguards against the spread of fake news. the 2015 Cyber Act will also be fully used.

The Southwest also called on the federal government to ensure that technology is used effectively for the advancement of the Nigerian Security and not its destruction by working with the technology cum social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc to allow for checks and gate keeping.

While calling for concerted efforts to urgently resolve the impasse between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government so that students can return to school in earnest, the Southwest also urged the federal government to come up with a comprehensive programme that addresses youth employment, empowerment and a review of the curriculum of tertiary institutions with emphasis on skills acquisition and entrepreneurship.

“A comprehensive programme that addresses youth employment and empowerment should be prioritized. Closer coordination and complementarity between the states and the Federal Government. In this regard, the curricular of tertiary institutions should be reviewed, with emphasis placed on skills acquisition and entrepreneurship.

“We urge that every effort should be made to resolve the impasse between ASUU and the federal government so that students can return to school in earnest.”

It endorsed the call by traditional rulers’ call for regular consultations with state governors and federal authorities on challenges facing the state and for appropriate recognition of their role in the Constitution.

Other demands expressed in the communique are a “review of reports of constitutional conferences including the 2014 National Conference and implement some of the recommendations especially with reference to security, economy, equal treatment for citizens all over the country.”

Politics › BREAKING: Yakubu Steps Aside, Names Mu’azu As INEC Acting Chair by KEVIND(op): 5:16pm On Nov 09, 2020
Pending determination of his nomination for reappointment as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu on Monday named an Acting Chairman for the Commission.

He handed over to AVM Ahmed Mu’azu (rtd), as Acting Chairman, pending his clearance by the Senate.

Yakubu’s five-year tenure ended Monday.

He was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari in November 2015.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Yakubu noted it will be inappropriate for him to remain in office beyond November 9 without confirmation by the Senate and swearing to another oath of office as provided by law.

According to him: “You may recall that the current Commission was inaugurated in three batches. The Chairman and five Commissioners were sworn-in on 9th November 2015, followed by another six Commissioners on 7th December 2016 and one more Commissioner on 21st July 2018.

“The Commission is a constitutional body whose members are appointed for five years which may be renewed for a second and final term. This means that my tenure and that of the first set of five Commissioners ends today.

“As you are already aware, our work as election managers requires us to enforce the law, regulations and guidelines. In doing so, we must demonstrate strict respect for, and compliance with, the Constitution of Nigeria and subsidiary laws. Consequently, it will be inappropriate for me to remain in office beyond today, 9th November 2020, without confirmation by the Senate and swearing to another oath of office as provided by law.

“Pending the conclusion of the statutory process, the remaining National Commissioners have resolved that AVM Ahmed Mu’azu (rtd) will oversee the affairs of the Commission.

“It is therefore my pleasure to hand over to him in the interim. We have worked as a team for the last four years. Therefore, there is nothing new to anyone of them”, he said.

He lauded the support of the members of the Commission, the Resident Electoral Commissioners, the Secretary to the Commission, the Director-General of the Electoral Institute, Directors, members of the technical team, heads of the various security agencies deployed to INEC and all staff of the Commission nationwide, adding that he looks forward to working with them again.

In his response, the Acting Chairman, AVM Ahmed Mu’azu (rtd), thanked the outgoing chairman of INEC and his colleagues for the privilege and confidence reposed in him to oversee the commission.

He assured that he will handle the affairs of the commission with all due diligence.

Foreign Affairs › China remains one of the few major countries yet to congratulate Biden - CNN by KEVIND(op): 12:48pm On Nov 09, 2020
Hong Kong(CNN)
The Chinese government on Monday sidestepped questions on when it would congratulate United States President-elect Joe Biden on his election victory, with a Foreign Ministry spokesman saying only that China would act in "accordance with international practice."

More than 24 hours after US media declared Biden victorious, China remains one of the few major countries yet to send a message of congratulations to Biden and his team on their defeat of Donald Trump, leaving many to speculate whether officials there are waiting for the outgoing president to concede defeat.

And with two months to go until Trump leaves office, Beijing may want to avoid anything that could further destabilize US-China relations.

Speaking at a regular press briefing in Beijing Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said that China had "noted" Biden's declaration of victory.

"We understand that the outcome of the general election will be determined in accordance with the laws and procedures of the United States," said Wang in response to CNN's questions. "We will handle the issue of the statement (of congratulations) in accordance with international practice."

Wang did not elaborate what "international practice" might involve, especially given the large number of nations who have already congratulated Biden, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Israel, France and Germany.

Beijing's apparent unwillingness to offer a firm answer on the election result comes as Chinese state-run media exhibited a cautious optimism that a Biden presidency might help reset US-China relations, which have deteriorated markedly during Trump's time in office.

In an editorial published Sunday, state-run newspaper the China Daily said that relations could be "reset for the better," especially on trade, where the two countries have waged a economically damaging two-year long trade war with no end in sight.

"By adhering to this approach and strengthening the ballast of their trade ties, the two countries can regain the generally positive momentum that has characterized their relations over the past four decades," the editorial said.

China's government-backed nationalist tabloid the Global Times published an editorial titled, "Drop illusions over China-US relations, but don't give up efforts," in which it recommended that Beijing "communicate with the Biden team as thoroughly as it can, making greater joint efforts to recover China-US relations to a state of great predictability."

However, it concluded by noting that in the end, China could rely only on itself. "China must become a country the US cannot suppress or destabilize, and make it that cooperation with China is the best option for the US to realize its national interests," the editorial said.

Politics › Darah: Threat To Withdraw Northern Food Supplies To Rivers, A Welcome Challenge by KEVIND(op): 8:49am On Nov 09, 2020
Prof. G G Darah the Delta State Chairman of PANDEF has posited that the threat by some Northern Cabals to ban Northern foodstuffs to Rivers State and Southern Nigeria is a welcome challenge.

Prof Darah the Delta State PANDEF leader who spoke extensively about the perceived imminent face- off said: “What food items does the North sell to us that cannot be produced in abundance down South? Beans, rice, potato, yams, cassava, etc, grow well in the Niger Delta.”

Continuing the erudite academic Don observed: “Ughwerun Kingdom of Urhobo leads in sweet potato for chips consumed in hotels, restaurants and food joints across Nigeria. Onions do well in northern/Ogoja area of Cross River. Our rain forests are fertile for peppers and diverse spices.”

He explained that all the farm needs of the people of the Niger Delta states are in the Plantain and banana belt which play host perhaps to the biggest plantain market specifically, the weekly one at Zarama in Bayelsa on the East-West Highway thus our carbohydrate needs are met.

He remarked that the Niger Delta can still support itself for their protein demands saying: ” As for our protein, we can be self-sufficient. because the Niger Delta region is naturally endowed as it has the highest number of rivers
Nov 9, 2020

Prof Darah relying on dependable data from impeccable sources said: ” According to the World Bank publication of 1995, there are about 250 fish species. In 2003, Gòv Ibori of Delta State took a delegation to Thailand and saw fishery and shrimp ponds that stretched for kilometres. Asian agri experts visited Delta State in 2004 and used vehicles, canoes and helicopter to identify potential fishing havens from Tsekelewu near Ondo State boundary through Batere, Escravos, Forcados, Burutu, Odimodi, Agge/Aghoro, Bomadi, Patani, Umeh/Erhohwa, Asaba-Ase, Aboh, Onya Oko, Asaba and Ebu/Illah. The report they produced must be somewhere in Govt House, Asaba.

He added : “As for livestock we have adequate lands for breeding pigs, goats, sheep, poultry, ducks, turkey, pigeon, etc. Oil palm and raffia proliferate in the Niger Delta. In truth, what foods do Northern states transport to us that gives them the impudent voice to threaten a food embargo?”

He acknowledged that Perhaps the difficulty we may have is that our Southern politicians are unwilling to think and apply strategy to transform our natural resource abundance to wealth and prosperity for the general good.

While making his closing remark Prof. Darah maintained that: the Niger Delta people should encourage the northern food cabals to carry out their threat to stop food supply. That is when our politicians will realise that the business of governance is more serious than winning elections and riding in imported luxury jeeps he concluded .

Foreign Affairs › It’s Too Early To Congratulate Biden - Obrador, Mexican President by KEVIND(op): 2:44pm On Nov 08, 2020
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador says it is too early to congratulate Joe Biden, president-elect of the United States.

After securing more than the 270 required votes to win the presidency, leading American media organisations projected Biden as the next US president.

But President Donald Trump, who has refused to concede the election, filed multiple lawsuits to challenge Biden’s victory.

Speaking with reporters on Saturday, Obrador said he would wait for “all legal issues” in the US presidential election to be resolved before congratulating the winner.

“We don’t want to be imprudent. We don’t want to act lightly and we want to respect people’s self-determination and rights,” Obrador said.

“We have a very good relationship with the two candidates. President Trump has been very respectful with us and we have reached very good agreements, and we thank him because he has not interfered and has respected us. And the same goes for Biden.”

Canadian leader Justin Trudeau; Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin; Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari are among the world leaders who have congratulated Biden.

Politics › Amaechi Calls For Unity In Southeast, Southsouth by KEVIND(op): 8:57am On Oct 26, 2020
Minister of Transportation. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has called on the people of the Southeast and Southsouth to unite and work for the progress of the regions.

He made the call during an interactive session with the Southeast/Southsouth Professionals of Nigeria (SESSPN) in Lagos.

The SESSPN had invited the Minister to address concerns regions about security, power, economic and social integration and representation in government.

Amaechi said: “We fight a lot among ourselves. In South South and South East we fight amongst ourselves. I’m saying this so that we can separate emotions from reality. Today it is not about President Buhari, it is about us. This administration is doing a lot, but because it’s President Buhari, we pretend not to see it.

“We complain about lopsided appointments. Apart from the area of security, have you checked other areas side by side? The President will appoint someone from the South East and people from the same region will fight against the appointment, if you are the President, how will you feel?

“When we took office, the President asked us to complete all projects left by previous administrations before starting new ones. We did that and it was across all regions. We completed Port Harcourt Airport, we are working on Enugu Airport; Enugu Onitsha road, work is going on, no matter how slow. The second Niger bridge in Onitsha – 48 percent and we have assured the country that by 2022 it would be completed. Those who are from Onitsha or from Anambra, have you gone to the site and work is not going on? When we came it was zero. Most of you don’t see it because it’s not beside the Niger bridge, so you don’t see it unless you visit the site.

“Onitsha is a River port, 3.5 metre draft. The only thing that can go there is barge. Port Harcourt and Warri seaport will be the highest. And people still criticise a president that is doing this much for this zone. How do we survive by ethnicity?”

On rail projects and why work has not been done in the Southeast, Amaechi said: “I hate tribalism. I’ve said this before, for me, I’m Nigerian, and what informs my decision of choosing which rail line to construct at any point in time, is the economics of rail; and currently the economics shows that Lagos to Kano has the capacity to move 30 million tonnes of cargo per year. I do the same analysis for Port Harcourt to Maiduguri, 11 million tonnes. We are currently doing the analysis for Lagos to Calabar to know how many tonnes of cargo can be moved there per year. So we started with the Lagos to Kano rail. President Obasanjo approved it, President Jonathan started construction on it by doing Abuja to Kaduna and President Buhari told us to complete all previous projects.

He added: “Now, we are applying for $11b loan to construct Lagos to Calabar rail. There was no design for Port Harcourt-Maiduguri. We knew that the first thing to do was to commence a feasibility study, after that we did the design. Its now they’ll start to do the site drawing.”

in turn encourage usage of all ports in the South South.

“The problem with maritime in Nigeria is insecurity. There are rich Nigerians who do bunkering. Next are those who escort vessels, another is the OMSL group who say they are protecting vessels and so on. We have a disadvantage where those who are making the money will not allow you provide the security. We have bought equipment for use in securing our waters. The moment I announced it, they reported me everywhere. But we must end it”, Amaechi stated.

In his opening remarks, President of SESSPN, Hannibal Uwaifo while welcoming the Minister, said, “We will need to work with our people in government, support them, no matter what political party they belong to, to help and promote our region. It is those of us who are exposed, those of us who are professionals that can put heads together with our people in government to overcome these challenges. We have to up our game in order to get a better tomorrow for our children.
