The President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has lauded Nigerian controversial preacher, Prophet TB Joshua, over a prophecy he gave the North African nation. According to President Mayardit, TB Joshua, who founded and runs The Synagogue, Church of All Nations (SCOAN) prophecy in 2019 that peace will be realized in South Sudan by 2020, has in fact come true. In November 2019, TB Joshua travelled to South Sudan upon invitation by the South Sudanese head of state. The televangelist prayed at the State House in a ceremony attended by most senior government officials. In an invitation letter date May 5, 2020, Kiir invited Joshua for another visit, praising him for his prophecy which he said in the letter has materialized after the failure of regional and international bodies to bring peace in South Sudan. “… for your love and humility by coming on your prophetic and historic visit on 12th November 2019 when the Nation was in desperate situation whereby the country was experiencing civil war violence for many years,” Kiir said in the later dated May 5. “The world organizations tried to negotiate peace but where human wisdom failed, God has the final answer. As you have prophesied that, it shall be a new beginning for the nation and we the leaders should overcome our divisions and our differences and come back to develop our young nation in the World. “Hence we, the Government and the Opposition have come together to implement the revitalized Peace Agreement and now the nation is at peace followed by the formation of revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R.TGONU), which signifies a new beginning indeed. ” Kiir further invited Joshua again saying “The whole nation of South Sudan is ready to receive you once again.” https://thenationonlineng.net/endsars-protesters-ground-lagos-abuja-other-cities/ The visit & Prophecy to South Sudan video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZuamzqfvYo

ICC advisory committee says Justice Ishaq Bello lacks the knowledge of the workings of the court. Nigerian nominee Ishaq Bello ranked low amongst 20 contenders for ICC job ICC advisory committee says Justice Ishaq Bello lacks the knowledge of the workings of the court. ByAlfred Olufemi October 2, 2020 3 min read Justice Ishaq Bello, the only Nigerian nominated for election to the International Criminal Court (ICC) jury in 2020, may have fluffed the country’s chances after a poor performance in the assessment exercise. The ICC, headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands, prosecutes international crimes, crimes against humanity, war crimes, genocide, and aggression by nationals of the 123-member countries. President Muhammadu Buhari had in June nominated Mr Bello, the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, for the contest. He was among the 20 nominated for the election scheduled for the 19th session of the assembly of states parties. The assembly will be held at the United Nations, New York, from December 7 – 17. According to the Rome Statutes, every three years, the Assembly replaces one third of its 18 judges by electing six new judges for non-renewable terms of nine years. For candidates to be elected, they must garner two-thirds of the votes from the state parties. As contained in the statement of nomination submitted to ICC, Mr Bello has served as a magistrate, legal adviser, deputy Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria), judge and acting chief judge. More so, he had served on several bar and bench committees before his appointment as a member of the National Judicial Council (NJC). “He has also held high-level positions, including chairing election petition tribunals and Presidential Committee on Prison Reforms and Decongestion (PCRD), among others. He is very familiar with the workings of the court, having led numerous Nigerian delegations to various international fora “Justice Bello has several publications to his credit, including papers presented towards advancing the judiciary. He is a member of several notable professional bodies. He is currently the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court of Justice in Abuja, Nigeria. “As Chief Judge, one of his core responsibilities includes supervisory authority over the court’s judicial and administrative functions. He is also responsible for the assignment of cases and in the process ensures that judicial work is equally distributed. His deep knowledge and practical experience of the Court, allied to his proven leadership skills, make him uniquely qualified as a judge of the International Criminal Court,” the Nigerian government said. Assessment Due to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, which discourages physical meetings, the advisory committee on nomination conducted interviews via virtual means between August 12 and August 28 with the 20 candidates presented for the election. Based on its standards, the candidates, after assessment, are graded under three levels: ‘Highly qualified’ – the candidate excels in terms of the experience and knowledge about the Court and its jurisprudence; ‘Qualified’ – the candidate has some relevant experience and knowledge about the court and ‘Only formally qualified’ – the candidate that meets the requirements set out in the Rome Statute for election as a judge but uncertain if the candidate could make a noteworthy contribution to the work of the Court. However, according to its report, only nine candidates are “Highly Qualified” while three fall under the “Qualified” category and seven are ranked “Only Formally Qualified”. Mr Bello belongs in the third category, the lowest before disqualification. The committee noted that Mr Bello, although articulate and knowledgeable regarding criminal law and procedure at the national level, lacks the knowledge of the workings of the ICC. “…based on his answers to questions particularly regarding participation by victims and the functions of the Pre-Trial Chamber (but also other areas), the candidate appeared notably to have a very limited knowledge of the Rome Statute, the practices and procedures of the Court and its jurisprudence. “Based on both his professional experience as well as his answers during the interview. and bearing in mind particularly his lack of detailed knowledge of the workings of the Court, the Committee concluded that the candidate was only formally qualified for appointment as judge of the International Criminal Court,” the committee’s report read. Dent on career While Mr Bello’s poor rating and knowledge of rhe ICC may work against his candidature, he is best remembered in Nigeria for a controversial ruling that freed a police officer who ordered the shooting of six persons in 2005. It was a sad case of extra-judicial killing of Ifeanyi Ozor, Chinedu Meniru, Augustina Arebu, Anthony Nwokike, Paulinus Ogbonna and Ekene Isaac Mgbe, popularly referred to as the ‘Apo Six.’ The judicial panel of inquiry found the police account that the victims were armed robbers to be false and recommended the officers involved for trial. The five accused officers and eight other police witnesses testified that the then Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Danjuma Ibrahim, ordered the killings. After more than a decade of protracted court proceedings that left the victims’ families emotionally and financially drained, judgement was delivered by Mr Bello. Two of the officers involved were convicted and sentenced to death on March 9, 2017, in a landmark judgment of the FCT High Court. But the presiding judge, Mr Bello, said “there was not enough evidence to convict Mr Danjuma,” whom the police officers said ordered the shootings. After the ruling, Mr Danjuma was reinstated and later promoted to Commissioner of Police and then to Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG). https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/417991-nigerian-nominee-ishaq-bello-ranked-low-amongst-20-contenders-for-icc-job.html

Lawmakers Write Commonwealth Over Bloodshed Under President Buhari, Open Up On Encounter With TY Danjuma The lawmakers including Caroline Cox, David Alton, Jin Shannon and Helena Kennedy, said thousands of civilians in the country had been killed and elements of the Nigerian Government may be complicit in the violence. Some United Kingdom lawmakers have written the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Patricia Scotland QC, over widespread violence in Nigeria. The lawmakers including Caroline Cox, David Alton, Jin Shannon and Helena Kennedy, said thousands of civilians in the country had been killed and elements of the Nigerian Government may be complicit in the violence. Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria's President. Others, who signed the letter, are Lord Williams, Lord Carey, Dr Christopher Cocksworth, Phillip Mounstephen, Lord Stoddart, Lord Anderson, Lord Cormack. Sir Geoffrey Nice QC, Ayo Adedoin, Ewelina Ochab, Mervyn Thomas, Dr Khataza Gondwe, Nevile Kyrte-Smith, Dr John Eibiner and Ann Buwalda. They sought intervention on the killings in Nigeria, highlighting the helplessness of the current administration. The letter reads, “We write to highlight urgent concerns about escalating violence in Nigeria where attacks led by Boko Haram, Fulani herders and other Islamic militia continue in Northern and central-belt states with reports of increasing violence in the South-East. “According to a report by the UK All-Party Parliament Group for international Freedom of Religion or Belief, thousands of civilians have been killed and elements of the Nigeria Government may be complicit in violence. “The APPG's concern reflects the findings of a report by Amnesty International, which concludes that the Nigerian armed forces have committed war crimes and crimes against humanity during their operations. “The Nigerian former army Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Theophilus Danjuma, whom some of us have met and spoken to, says the armed forces are "not neutral, they collude" in the "ethnic cleansing" by Fulani herders. He insists that villagers must defend themselves because "depending on the armed forces" will result in them dying" one by one. The ethnic cleansing must stop. “The state's failure to protect its citizens is a clear breach of its obligations under the commonwealth charter in respect of human rights. There is now an urgent need (a) to ensure adequate protection and aid for those suffering the loss of family members and destruction of their homes and livelihood and (b) to end impunity by ensuring that complaints related to human rights violations are promptly, inadequate and impartially investigated, and those responsible are held to account after fair trials. “We write therefore, to ask whether you are able to respond on behalf of The Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group. We should be very willing to meet in person (or perhaps more practically, online via Zoom) to discuss how we might proceed.” http://saharareporters.com/2020/09/22/united-kingdom-lawmakers-write-commonwealth-over-bloodshed-under-president-buhari-open |

KOGI state governor Yahaya Bello has said negotiating with Boko Haram would be the last option his administration will consider stating that they must not be pardoned and should be treated as such. The governor during the handing over of 778 women and children of Boko Haram by the 4 special forces command Doma, Nasarawa state on Monday said that the execution of terrorists will end terrorism. Represented by his Senior Special Adviser on Security, Doru Jerry, Bello noted that the end to terrorism is to have a stronghold in the north-central, following what is witnessed in recent times, especially kidnapping, killing and maiming innocent citizens of Nigeria. “I wonder why we still refer to them as bandits, as far as we are concerned, in Kogi, we have long tagged them terrorists and they remain terrorists. “His excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has asked me to restate here this afternoon that as far as he is concerned, he will not, and he will never negotiate with criminals, he will not and he will never negotiate with terrorists. “We must clear all criminals, we must not condone, we must not negotiate, there must not be pardon for terrorism, we must go all out to make sure we subdue them,” he said. Governor Bello who called on security agencies to ensure that they go after the fleeing terrorists and fish them out of their hiding places said they must be executed to end their activities. In a related development, One of the Boko Haram women held captive who went into labour on arrival in Lafia the Nasarawa State capital from Doma has just been taken to PHC Kwandere amidst tight security for delivery. Security personnel comprising the DSS, the military and the police as well as personnel of FRSC have taken over the facility where the families are kept while the family members of the terrorists are presently camped at the Nasarawa State Polytechnic Lafia. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/09/insecurity-execution-will-end-terrorism-treat-them-as-such-―-bello/

CAMA LAW: FOR THOSE COMPARING THE UK GOVERNMENT WITH NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT -Pastor Dennis Woruka Jnr To those of you who think the Government regulates Churches in the UK and as such, the CAMA Bill in Nigeria should stand. I am a Pastor in the UK. This means I can speak on this issue. As a Church in the UK, you are seen as a charity. The UK government gives grants to the Church. For example, the government can give you £50k (N30 million Naira) at the end of the year based on how much your Church performed that year. Because of this, the Government checks your finances to ensure the grants given to you are merited. This is how the UK Government regulates churches. The CAMA Bill does not make any sense in Nigeria, because the Nigerian Government, to the best of my knowledge, does not give any form of grants to any Church in Nigeria. How do you want to regulate the finances of the Church , to the extent of changing her board, when the Church does not benefit from you, financially. Therefore, stop comparing the UK Government with Nigeria in relation to this CAMA Bill. I am not against the government tracking down fraud or any form of money laundering. Please note: My Church (Fountain of Souls Ministries Int'l UK) has never collected any form of grant from the UK Government and we do not intend to do so.

By Farooq Kperogi. Nigerian politicians are shamelessly situational "patriots." They're irredentists when they're outside the orbit of power and exaggerated "patriots" when they have access to the public till. A man who didn't believe in Nigeria when he didn't have his way now wants to lead it. Ha!https://mobile.twitter.com/farooqkperogi/status/1298435659930243072

“You only need to hear ‘Go!’ from above. Who are you to say no? When God says yes, no one can say no! The noise of north and south, the noise of east and west does not matter. It only promotes!” - TB Joshua In June 2019, Prophet TB Joshua visited Nazareth, the historic hometown of Jesus Christ, for a two-day event that drew thousands from across the globe. However, news of the event was accompanied by extreme persecution, condemnation and protests by religious figures, leading to palpable fears it would be cancelled. Here is a documentary detailing the attacks levelled at Prophet TB Joshua and what happened in the aftermath of the glorious event! “It depends on who sent you. Above all powers; above all kings. What can man do? Can man stop God? No. Capital NO!” - TB Joshua https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JP2QKy0Wa8w |

They stressed that recent and frequent cases of displacement and unlawful occupation of farmlands of indigenes by marauding herdsmen call for concern. Catholic Bishops of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province have called for total vigilance from the citizenry, in the face of growing insecurity in Nigeria. The clerics made the call in a communiqué they issued after their second plenary meeting held at the Bishop House, Okigwe. The communiqué, which was signed by the Chairman and Secretary, Archbishop Anthony J.V. Obinna, and Most Rev. Augustine T. Ukwuoma, centred on several national issues, including security, education and the COVID-19 pandemic. "Bearing in mind that no economic or educational endeavour can thrive in a volatile and unsafe environment, the security and safety of the nation at large and Igboland in particular, deserve special attention," the clerics said They stressed that recent and frequent cases of displacement and unlawful occupation of farmlands of indigenes by marauding herdsmen call for concern. From January to July 2020, at least 178 persons were killed in local government areas of Southern Kaduna, data from Civic Media Lab's life count and media report of killings gathered by SaharaReporters show. Gunmen of Fulani ethnicity reportedly perpetrated most of the attacks. "Kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery, incessant killings, which have continued unabated, cast serious doubts on the willingness and capability of our security outfits to rise to their constitutional responsibilities," the Catholic Bishops said. They called on the governors of Imo and the Abia States, "to protect the lives of our people, their homes and their lands". The clerics urged the people to "rise in prayer to God in vigilance and legitimate self-defence, for the right to life, to our homes and our lands, is God-given". Addressing the issues related to the coronavirus, the bishops said nothing in recent memory had shaken the world like the pandemic. "Amidst the unprecedented panic, tension and confusion provoked by the Covid-19 pandemic, and in the face of the resurgent insecurity in our land and across the nation, we have every reason to thank God, who has kept us alive by his mercy," the bishops said. The bishops reaffirmed that COVID-19 is real, noting that the governments, on their part, should rise to their responsibility of ensuring adequate provisions of basic amenities like running water. They said, "Particular attention should be paid to improving our poor healthcare facilities, making provision for more testing centres with affordable services and enough personal protective equipment, for our healthcare workers." On the effect of the pandemic on education, the Bishops added, "The pandemic has also impacted negatively on our educational system. Our schools at all levels have been closed for months. With everybody at home, there has been an increase in domestic violence, abuses and all sorts of crimes. "The inadequacy of our educational system and formation have been laid bare. Some climes have tried to bridge the gap through online education. Unfortunately, we lack the necessary infrastructure to key in, except in a handful of places and schools. "This is a challenge for all stakeholders in education. The billions of naira embezzled regularly could be gainfully used in meeting these challenges." http://saharareporters.com/2020/08/11/insecurity-defend-yourselves-catholic-bishops-tell-nigerians

Some moments ago, I came across a video on the BBC website which showed a church located less than a kilometre away from the Beirut's explosion but whose altar survived the deadly explosion which claimed scores of lives. The church, St. Dimitrios Greek Orthodox Church is located in Achrafieh and is less than a kilometre away from where the Beirut explosion took place. This church has now turned to a beacon of hope to the devastated country as it's altar and everything in the sacred place were unscathed in the deadly explosion. Father Youil Nassif is the priest of the church and in an interview he granted to BBC, he claimed he had left the church along with his children, twelve minutes before the deadly explosion whose impact was felt several kilometres away. In his words: "I left the church with my children twelve minutes before the explosion, we were heading home when it happened. So I reached home, I left my children there and went back to the church to check what happened." According to Father Youil, on getting to the church, he saw that the church had been destroyed by the explosion, so he went to the altar and he met the altar untouched. He also found the holy chalice still intact. In his own words: "So when I entered the altar, I was surprised, the altar was untouched, you can see the pictures and you can see the videos. The holy chalice was intact, you can see the Holy Bible, you can see the oil lamp that didn't move." He said finding the sacred altar place unaffected, as well as an oil lamp that had remained lit throughout even though the nave had been completely destroyed gave him hope that God is actually reaching out to his people in their dark times. If there is anything to learn from this story which sounds almost untrue, it is that even when the times are dark and all hope is lost and everything seems gloomy with no ray of hope in sight, God still rules in the affairs of men and can use the 'little' things of this world to show us that he is still God. The Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) has condemned the President Muhammadu Buhari led government’s loan arrangements with China. It said the administration had embarked on a suicidal mission that will push the Nigerian economy to its knees. OPC Publicity Secretary, Yinka Oguntimehin, in a statement on Tuesday expressed worry that the borrowings would make the South-West the greatest loser. Noting that Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, said it will take the Federal Government about 20 years to pay back the loan, OPC decried that government failed to judiciously utilise previous loans secured. “How can you explain the rationale behind the loan arrangements? The government is up to something sinister because all available indices have it that the Nigerian economy is gradually moving downwards. Today our naira is N470 to a dollar. What that means is that our naira is falling daily to the American dollar. “The Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) was established in 1913, even before the Nigerian independence in 1960. It is sad that one of our national heritage and institutions in the south is being mortgaged and considered as one of the assets and monuments for the payment plan with the China government. “The controversial sovereign guarantee and sovereign immunity clause in the loan arrangement with China has raised many questions about the sincerity of federal government, and as a group, we can not keep quiet as if nothing is wrong. Nobody truly understands the drift of this government. “We have a strong feeling that the North is suspecting that Nigeria will not last beyond 2023, that is why they are mortgaging the future of the entire nation with bad loans, and sadly they are using Amaechi and his allies from the south to perpetrate their sinister plans”, he noted. https://dailypost.ng/2020/08/04/china-loans-npa-among-nigerias-collateral-north-behind-deal-opc-blasts-buhari-amaechi/

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Umar Farouq has claimed that every Nigerian citizen enjoyed the COVID-19 Relief stimulus. According to her, the stimulus was evenly distributed across Nigeria. “There is hardly anyone in Nigeria who didn’t receive the Federal Government palliatives care in this trial COVID-19 pandemic. All the tribes in Nigeria received the palliative, infact it was evenly distributed “Hearing some tribes crying of marginalization, especially the Eastern parts of Nigeria and the South South that no palliative care was given to them tends to blackmail
