There's a video clip going viral online and it has attracted a lot of reactions from many Nigerians after a fulani bandit openly came out to boast of how he kills soldiers and abduct innocent students. In the video, this terrorist who didn't disclose his identity said that his strength and success come from above and anyone (security forces) who dares to touch them knows that it wouldn't be sweet so they let them be. The bandit further disclosed how the Emir of his town brought in soldiers to come and annihilate them but on hearing this he relocated his wives immediately and on the fourth day of their stay in Gusau they launched a reprisal attack against the soldiers and wiped them. Speaking further, he disclosed how they (bandits) later killed half of the troops that were deployed the second time into the area after they arrested some of his boys who were bringing him supplies and seized their motorcycles. He further mentioned how the soldiers joined forces with the Niger (not specified) to neutralize them but they killed all of them while maintaining that nobody can chase him out of the village, as the residents who surrounded him were seen laughing with him while their own lives are being threatened before their very eyes. He further narrated how he commands the shots in the town and how he once returned 40 abducted children to their parents after his boys carried out an operation without his knowledge. He stressed that they don't kill innocent people rather they kill their counterparts who are also in the same business of banditry with them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNFGy9g5yRY https://punchng.com/video-how-i-killed-soldiers-zamfara-bandit-boasts-in-front-of-crowd-policeman/ |
BREAKING: Niger Delta Avengers Announce Return, Vow To Cripple Economy, Attack Politicians Buhari was barely a year in office when the militant group started attacking oil installations, forcing Nigeria into recession.... Niger Delta Avengers, the militant group that almost crippled Nigeria’s economy during the first term of President Muhammadu Buhari, says it is back. Buhari was barely a year in office when the militant group started attacking oil installations, forcing Nigeria into recession. The attacks cut oil production from a peak of 2.2 million barrels per day to below one million barrels per day, the lowest level for more than 30 years. In a statement on Saturday, the militant group said it had launched ‘Operation Humble’ which is targeted at crippling the Nigerian economy. It also threatened to attack politicians who are working with the Federal Government “to undermine the Niger Delta region”. “There is no gainsaying that the failed country called Nigeria which has fed fat on our God-given wealth is at the brink of total disintegration, owing to the security and related challenges across the country; ranging from terrorism and banditry in the North, to the secessionist gongs of the Oduduwa people of the South-west and IPOB of the South-east it is obvious that peace in the Niger Delta, and by extension, the South-South geopolitical region is the very thin piece still binding this country together.” “It is disheartening that despite being the economic backbone and having resolved to maintain the peaceful environment for the smooth operations of the oil multinationals whose proceeds the country cling unto for economic survival, the Niger Delta and the South-South remain the most under developed, with our needs and interests undermined by the failed Nigerian State. “We decided to suspend our famous operation red economy‚ which bled the Nigerian economy into recession about 4 years ago not because we are lazy, but for the love we have for our people and out of respect for the voice of the elders of the Niger Delta region, who beckoned on us to give peace a chance and avail the government time to act on our demands at the time.” The group said it renewed hostility because government has allegedly failed to meet its demand. No Confidence vote on PANDEF It said it has lost confidence in the Chief Edwin Clark-led Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), which played a critical role to make the group accept ceasefire in 2017. “In a move to remind this failed government that we have exhausted the very last iota of patience, the High Command of the Niger Delta Avengers have in a meeting held last night resolved as follows: “We have lost total confidence on all socio-cultural groups like PANDEF, the elders of Niger Delta and the bunch of so-called ex-agitators frolicking with the Government at our detriment. “This operation shall be coded ‘Operation Humble’‚ aimed at bringing down targeted oil installations in the Niger Delta Region, capable of humbling the economy into permanent recession. “This mission is also targeted at political actors who are collaborating with the Nigerian Government to undermine the interest of the Niger Delta people. “There is no doubt that the Nigerian Government has continued to pay deaf ears to our demands and the rising challenges in the country, because the pipelines that crisscross our lands are left untouched, allowing dollars to flow into the Federal treasury on a daily basis for, mismanagement. ‘No oil installation will be spared’ “We shall spare no single oil installation within our range of strategic targets marked for destruction in the coming days and we bet the Nigerian Government will be humbled to return to the drawing board and chart an all-inclusive course by the time we are done with our action plan. “Members of our strike teams across the Niger Delta are commanded to be on red alert, awaiting precise strike plans as mapped by the high command of the NDA.” https://www.nairaland.com/6621904/breaking-niger-delta-avengers-announce https://dailytrust.com/avengers |

THE Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, yesterday accused peoples of the southern part of the country of provoking the north to set the country aflame.https://www.vanguardngr.com/2021/06/southerners-provoking-north-to-spark-crisis-acf/?amp=1

Two major socio-political groups in the North-Central, the Middle Belt Forum and the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, have dissociated themselves from the pan-northern association, the Arewa Consultative Forum. The MBF and SOKAPU, in separate interviews with The PUNCH on Thursday, said although they were not opposed to the ACF’s planned meeting with southern groups, they were not part of the Arewa forum. The organisations stated this as southern groups said the need to restructure the country would be raised at the meeting. The ACF, at its national executive council meeting in Kaduna on Wednesday, said it hoped to meet leaders of the pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere and the Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo over rising insecurity in the country and other issues. But the Spokesman for the Middle Belt Forum, Dr Isuwa Dogo, in an interview with The PUNCH on Thursday, said the group would not attend the meeting as part of the ACF. Dogo said, “The Middle Belt Forum does not attend meetings with the ACF or any other group except with Ohaneze Ndigbo, Afenifere and PANDEF (Pan-Niger Delta Forum). The four groups are together. So, if the ACF is meeting with those groups in the South , it also includes Middle Belt Forum. “We are waiting for the agenda they have and we will respond appropriately when the agenda is made known to us.” Dogo, who insisted that the people of Middle Belt had their cultural identity distinct from that of the ACF, said, “One thing you should know is that we are not part of whatever the ACF is doing .We have our own identity which is different from theirs.” ACF pursuing Hausa/Fulani interest, agenda in opposite direction with ours – SOKAPU Also, SOKAPU said it was not part of the ACF. It said the reason it would attend the meeting would be because its allies would be in attendance. According to the Spokesman for SOKAPU, Luka Binniyat, the ACF cannot speak for the people of southern Kaduna. He added that the ACF was pursuing the agenda of the Hausa-Fulani people. Binniyat said, “SOKAPU is not an appendage of the ACF. But if we will attend, it will be because the Middle Belt Forum, which is our mother body, will be attending. And it will also be that because our allies, PANDF, Afinefere and Ohaneze will be in attendance. “The ACF is a select, privileged group of elites from the former Northern Region which is now 19 states. They have arrogated to themselves the role of speaking for the region. “It has been led 98 per cent of the time by core Hausa/Fulani Muslims of the core north with a sprinkling of Middle Belters given curious roles over time. The ACF does not care about the plight of the people of Southern Kaduna and indeed for the Middle Belt. “It is not known to stand for us in the midst of the unrelenting violence visited on us by armed herdsmen. “That Audu Ogbe, an Idoma man, from the Middle Belt is its current chairman, is nothing but a ruse. “It is deception to lure the Middle Belt and other parts of the country into thinking that the ACF is such an all inclusive forum, but we know the puppeteer. “The ACF cannot speak for SOKAPU. It has never demonstrated any solidarity with our people. It’s hugely out to pursue the agenda of the Hausa/Fulani, which, in most cases, is in opposite directions with our own interest in SOKAPU. “I don’t know what they want to discuss at the meeting. We have not seen the agenda of the meeting. “But if SOKAPU will attend, our interest will be first and foremost the security and safety of our area. We shall table the issues of our captured 108 territories and the thousands of internally displaced persons from these areas. “The issue of restructuring of Nigeria is also on top of our demands. The unjust treatment of our people and unfair infrastructure and project allotment; political appointments, destruction of our traditional institution and irrational demolition of homes and property of our people will also form our agenda.” Restructuring, key to meeting with ACF – PANDEF PANDEF said restructuring was key and fundamental to any meaningful discussion aimed at moving Nigeria forward. National Publicity Secretary of PANDEF, Ken Robinson said this to one of our correspondents on the phone. Robinson said PANDEF was ready for a sincere meeting with ACF, pointing out that the restructuring of Nigeria was the forerunner to a myriad of issues. He stated, “The fundamental issue is restructuring. It is the structure of the country that has given birth to all the other others issues primarily. Even the economic issues, security issues “People are aggrieved because of the uneven distribution of oil resources particular for us in the South-South. We produce about 80 to 85 per cent of the resources and we get less than 20 per cent. “Our places not developed. Our people are suffering. Livelihoods have been devastated. Our environments have been degraded. Those are the issues. “For some other parts of the country, the issues of killer herdsmen and all that. They are all issues related to how the country is being run. “So, restructuring is the ABC and to Z of Nigeria’s problems. If we restructure the faulty way leaders emerge, the arrogance of elected officials, the lack of regard of the citizens will end. “So, the restructuring is wholistic and not just about derivation. It is not about devolution. It is about electoral reforms. “Well, if they are serious and sincere and we seat with them to talk, because every issue is settled on a round table where there is mutual respect and understanding. And all that we have been asking for is a national consensus. Let us agree that things are not working. “We have been operating a system for about 60 years and the country has not made much progress. And we cannot continue in this manner. That is the fact. “So, if they have come to the realisation that maybe what these people are saying is real, of course they know it is real but because of the benefits they get from the faulty, flawed, military imposed dictatorial constitution, they don’t want changes.” Everything is skew in their favour, including the membership of the National Assembly.” Ohanaeze lists four issues On its part, Ohanaeze Ndigbo listed four major issues it would discuss with the ACF. According to the group, the four issues are restructuring, 2023 presidency, inclusion of Igbo in appointment of security chiefs and reciprocity of Igbo hospitality in their domains. Spokesperson for Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Alex Ogbonnia, who spoke with one of our correspondents on the telephone, maintained that Ohanaeze position was well-defined, adding “if you ask any Nigerian what is Ohanaeze’s position, he will always tell you. We have never missed words. Ogbonnia however, said “It can be classified into four major broad areas: one, presidency 2023 as a matter of equity and fairness. In 2023, presidency should go to the Igbo. “Two, the whole Southern governors including Ohanaeze have agreed on structuring Nigeria. The essence of restructuring is to see how we can unlock the potential of the teaming young Nigerians. On the other hand if Nigeria is restructured it will give vent to various hunt of talents. It will help unleash talents among the all segments of Nigerians. That is, it will be an opportunity available to us to explore the mineral resources within our reach and also to help expand the economic base of the people of Nigeria. Above all, it will reduce tension at the centre, because the more Nigeria is restructured the less the tension at the centre. It is to the advantage of everybody. “Third, in the current dispensation, the Igbo have been complaining that of all the entire security architecture of Nigeria, no person from the South-East is found worthy. It is not good and we are going to discuss it. “Fourth, Do unto others as they do unto you. The Igbo wherever we are are very hospitable. When other people come to South-East, we are very hospitable.” Meeting of ACF will give room for national development discussion – Afenifere Also, the Secretary General of the Afenifere, Mr Sola Ebiseni, in an interview with The PUNCH, said the meeting would give room for discussions that would pertain to the development of the country. He said, “We have only read about the proposed meeting in the media, like most other Nigerians and would not like to speculate on the agenda. We believe in dialogue among stakeholders for the progress and development of Nigeria. For instance, the Jonathan administration brought together the various groups, including representatives of all ethnic nationalities in the 2014 National Conference and we all came up with resolutions to move Nigeria forward. “The high point of that conference was that all the resolutions were arrived at by consensus. Since then, there have been pressures on government for the implementation of the report of the conference. The Afenifere, Ohaneze, PANDEF and the Middle Belt Forum (Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum) have several times met, formed synergy and resolved unanimously on moving the country forward, using the conference report as minimum template for restructuring the Nigerian political architecture. “The initiative of the Arewa Consultative Forum joining the rest of us mentioned is a welcome development.” https://punchng.com/afenifere-ohanaeze-pandef-insist-on-restructuring-ahead-talks-with-acf/?amp |

By Colin Freeman Former London resident was the catalyst for the unprecedented decision two weeks ago to ban 200 million people from using the platform Supporters see him a returning liberation hero, who revived a long-lost dream of African nationhood from his flat in faraway south London. Critics see him as a dangerous insurgent who belongs behind bars. Like him or loathe him, though few would disagree that Nnamdi Kanu has come a long way since his days running Radio Free Biafra from a council flat in Peckham. The 52-year-old, who leads the campaign to revive the former breakaway state of Biafra, was the catalyst for President Muhammadu Buhari's extraordinary decision two weeks ago to ban Nigeria's 200 million people from using Twitter. That in turn has sparked a global row over freedom of speech, dragging in everyone from Silicon Valley's tech giants through to ex-US president Donald Trump - not to mention Nigeria's millions of Twitter users. Mr Kanu, who also holds British citizenship, started Radio Free Biafra while living in London a decade ago. The web-based pirate radio station campaigns to recreate the short-lived republic of Biafra, which broke away from the rest of Nigeria in 1967, sparking a civil war that claimed a million lives. He returned to Nigeria in 2015, where he then skipped bail on what he claims were trumped-up treason charges. Now a fugitive, he leads the banned separatist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), whose armed wing, the Eastern Security Network, has been accused of attacking Nigerian security forces. He regards multi-ethnic Nigeria as a "zoo", declaring: “We want a free and independent Biafra or death." Such shock-jock rhetoric has infuriated Mr Buhari, a stern former general who fought on the government side in the Biafran war. On June 2, the president Tweeted a blunt warning to the separatists, saying: "Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand." To Mr Buhari's fury, Twitter then deleted his post, saying violated its "abusive behaviour" policy. Two days later, the president banned Twitter from Nigeria altogether, sparking protests from his own citizens and freedom campaigners worldwide. Defending the decision, Mr Buhari insisted that Mr Kanu has used his own Twitter, which has 300,000 followers, "to direct his loyalists to kill Nigerian soldiers and policemen." The government blames IPOB's armed wing for a rising tide of lawlessness in recent months around its stronghold in the former Biafra region of south-east Nigeria. Police officers have been killed, government buildings attacked, and in April, more than 1,800 prisoners escaped during a mass jailbreak in the city of Owerri. A day after Mr Buhari announced the Twitter ban, the platform also deleted a Tweet from Mr Kanu's account. It said: "Any army they send to #Biafraland will die there. None will return alive.” Mr Kanu was also banned from Facebook in February after posting a video alleged to show a pro-Biafran militia group killing cattle belonging to Fulani herders Mr Buhari's ban on Twitter won praise from Donald Trump, who himself was kicked off Twitter over claims that his posts helped incite the US Capitol riot in January. "Congratulations to the country of Nigeria, who just banned Twitter because they banned their president," he said. Critics, however, claim that Mr Buhari has over-reacted with the Twitter ban, censoring a social media tool used by 40 million Nigerians, as well as many businesses for advertising. They claim the real reason for the ban was Twitter's role in the #EndSARS police brutality protests, which saw huge street demonstrations last year over abuses committed by Nigeria's Special Anti-Robbery Squad. Twitter's CEO, Jack Dorsey, encouraged donations to one of the leading groups of organisers. Mr Buhari argues that the California tech moguls do not have to deal with the consequences of such protests, which saw a heavy police response. "We have not forgotten that #EndSARS resulted in the loss of lives, including those of 37 policemen, six soldiers and 57 civilians, while properties worth billions of Naira were destroyed," his spokesman said. With Boko Haram still running amok in Nigeria's north-east, and a spate of banditry and mass kidnappings in the north-east, government officials say they can ill-afford to tolerate Mr Kanu stirring another armed insurgency in Biafra. Nonetheless, many Nigerians point out that compared to the security threats in Nigeria's north, which have claimed thousands of lives, Mr Kanu and IPOB are small scale. Andrew Obuoforibo, a Nigerian political analyst and podcaster, told The Telegraph: "Buhari gives other more violent groups far less attention than Kanu and IPOB. I think he's just using Kanu as an excuse to ban Twitter because of Jack Dorsey donating money to the #endSARS protest. "If Mark Zuckerberg had donated money too, then Facebook might be banned in Nigeria as well." https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/06/22/man-peckham-caused-nigeria-shut-twitter/? |
After three decades of the elusive search for hydrocarbons in the Lake Chad Basin where the Federal Government spent about N149.4 billion, in the seismic expedition, yet the state-run energy company is giving it another shot in 2021, but this time around the world is racing away from oil and the government is broke. In a move most experts regard as a poor investment decision and lack of understanding of the future of oil, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is aggressively searching for new oil deposits to achieve its target of raising the nation’s oil reserve to 40 billion barrels by 2025. NNPC’s insatiable quest of finding oil in the north is built on a certain premise that the country is sitting on a huge natural resource in the Chad Basin, which is adjacent to the Niger Republic, a country already exploring crude oil. “In NNPC, we’ve continued to make giant strides in inland rift basin exploration. Our sustained quest is informed by the matured and the practical discoveries of commercial quantities of hydrocarbons in neighbouring Niger and Chad,” said Mele Kyari, NNPC’s Group Managing Director, while delivering a keynote address at this year’s 56th Nigerian Mining & Geosciences Society (NMGS) Conference. Believed to be President Muhammadu Buhari’s pet project considering that he started the agitation over 40 years ago, this journey is costing Nigeria millions of dollars despite the warning by petroleum engineers, investment experts and geologists who insist on the geography of the zone may not guarantee a commercial find. The president, who has been resolute on the possibilities of oil discoveries in the North since he was petroleum commissioner over 40 years ago, gave NNPC a marching order to explore hydrocarbon deposits across the federation immediately after he assumed office on May 29, 2015. “Hydrocarbons have provided a majority of the world’s energy for centuries, and that path is not going to change all of a sudden,” Timipre Sylva, Nigeria’s minister of state for Petroleum Resources said at this year’s Nigeria International Petroleum Summit (NIPS) in Abuja. Read Also: Big business, low profile: opaque oil contracts keeping Nigerians hooked on cheap petrol Apart from the discovery of non-commercial hydrocarbon deposits in the Kolmani River II Well, on the Upper Benue Trough, Gongola Basin, about 23 other wells drilled in the Nigerian sector of the Chad Basin were all reported dry. This wild goose chase has gulped about N149.4billion since its inception, this amount is exclusive of the $340 million, and an additional N27 billion committed by the Federal Government in seismic expedition since the beginning of the search for oil in the new frontier. Even if commercial hydrocarbon deposit is discovered, those who are conversant with investments in the sector say the NNPC’s plan to resume exploratory activities in the Chad Basin would seriously be hampered by economies of scale projections, insecurity and the unwillingness of oil companies to drill outside the Niger Delta with already proven reserves. “If you do the cost-benefit analysis, you can see that it is not viable in the short and medium-term,” said Henry Boise, Petroleum Economics, Management and Policy Researcher at Emerald Institute for Petroleum and Energy Economics, Policy Strategy, University of Port Harcourt. His views were equally supported by the publisher of Africa Oil and Gas Report, a magazine focusing on the petroleum sector, Toyin Akinosho, who warned against the wasteful involvement of NNPC in the presumed search for oil prospects in the Chad Basin. The publisher who is also a geologist with several years of working experience with Chevron said though the IOCs were not interested in getting involved in exploration activities in that region, they prefer to concentrate their energy and resources in deepwater operations, having gradually moved out of onshore prospects as a result of attendant security challenges. A geologist who said he was part of the team that explored the Sokoto Basin years ago described the whole exercise as a wild goose chase. According to him, the frontier basins are too shallow and not mature. Niyi Awodeyi, CEO at Subterra Energy Resources Limited, said that by every economic consideration, NNPC’s oil exploration is purely a political exploration as no economic consideration will allow loss-making companies like NNPC to focus on oil. “Nigeria is not maximising its present oil wells, so why would NNPC spend money on oil exploration when they can simply create an investment environment that will allow International Oil Companies (IOC) to perform such a task?” Awodeyi asked. Other stakeholders have questioned why the government keeps spending money it does not have instead of creating a favourable investment climate to attract investors who can easily explore or invest in cleaner sources of energy, which will reduce the country’s risk to crude oil. For instance, at a time Nigeria was on a lengthy but still fruitless search for oil in the country’s Lake Chad Basin, Saudi Arabia, the world’s biggest oil-producing country, announced it was no longer an oil-producing country. “Saudi Arabia is no longer an oil country, it’s an energy-producing country,” Saudi Arabia’s Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman told S&P Global Platts. He added, “I urge the world to accept this as a reality. We are going to be winners of high green ambitions that include gas production, renewables, and hydrogen.” Saudi Arabia is implementing Vision 2030, which aims at transforming the kingdom from oil dependence to build a sustainable economy. Unlike Nigeria, which is yet to fully maximise its current oil production, Saudi Arabia plans to take full benefit from current higher oil prices which will fund its shift to new energy, as Riyadh seeks to finance green energy projects from oil sales. The OPEC kingpin is also planning to generate 50percent of its energy from renewables by 2030, in part to reduce its dependence on oil. In 2017, renewables made up just 0.02percent of the overall energy share in Saudi Arabia. Also, NNPC’s quest for more oil exploration is also coming at a time traditional oil investors and big oil companies are coming under a plethora of attacks from all directions, ranging from uncooperative financiers and investors amidst a global shift to renewable energy to hostile governments and hardline climate activists. Already, the New York State’s pension fund, one of the world’s largest investors with $226billion in assets, said it will drop many of its fossil fuel stocks in the next five years and sell its shares in other companies that contribute to global warming by 2040. Also, Norway’s $1.3 trillion sovereign wealth fund – the largest in the world – announced it is funnelling money into clean energy projects as part of diversification away from bonds, equities and real estate amid a global push to fight climate change. Despite the global gospel to shift away from fossil fuel, Nigeria has over time remained stuck in the oil era. The country relies on crude oil sales for around 90 percent of its foreign exchange earnings and more than half of government revenue. Currently, the nation’s economy is choked as data from the Debt Management Office (DMO) revealed the country has a total debt of N33.1 trillion as at March 31 2021. The country’s refineries are in shambles, needing a subsidy, which deprived the economy of N10 trillion between 2006 and 2018, according to BudgIT. These and other developments have pushed the number of extremely poor Nigerians to 91 million, while the unemployment figure settles at 23 million people. Buhari had insisted that the need to explore oil in the frontier inland basins remained a national priority that must be sustained for the country’s economic benefits, adding that oil and gas were critical to Nigeria’s economy of today and the future. But analysts believe this is the time for the country to look beyond oil. “Nigeria needs to ensure sustainable fiscal management that is resilient to global oil price cycles. Improving tax collection and administration have become imperative for achieving national growth objectives,” PricewaterhouseCoopers said in its publication ‘Nigeria: Looking beyond Oil’. Support for this report was provided by the Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism (PTCIJ) through its Natural Resource and Extractive Programme. https://businessday.ng/features/article/millions-of-dollars-down-the-drain-oil-in-the-north-remains-elusive/amp/ |

President Muhammadu Buhari has said the Nigerian government cannot afford the amount of funding needed to revive the country’s educational system. Buhari also said the competition for funds had become keener because of the recent increase in the number of tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The president spoke on Saturday at the 49th convocation ceremony of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He said the financial situation had been worsened by the global economic downturn, which also affected the national revenue. Buhari, who was represented at the ceremony by the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, however, said his administration was committed to addressing the needs of tertiary institutions through budgetary allocations to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND). “I am optimistic that the on-going drive to diversify the national economy will provide the government with additional resources to improve funding for the education system,” he said. The president said the universities should also leverage other funding sources, such as from alumni, friends, the private sector, institutional linkages, and research grants, to attract additional revenue for infrastructure, research, and development. “We must also address the problems of poor work ethics and the albatross of prolonged and recurrent industrial actions by staff of universities,” the president stated. Buhari advised academic institutions across the country to embark on the kind of innovative research that could help boost production and diversify the economy. “Our universities must continue to emphasise training in entrepreneurship so school leavers and graduates are able to become job creators instead of perennial job seekers,” he said. On his part, Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, said the government should make effort to address the perennial challenge of poverty and inequality in the country or risk losing the youth to crime. Amaechi, who delivered the 49th convocation lecture of the university, stated that the series of protests held across the country of late, such as #ENDSARS, were as a result of increasing poverty and disaffection on the part of the citizens. “Although, the current administration has introduced a number of programmes to help eradicate poverty, such as Transport Track for individuals who were into the transportation business, several Nigerians are yet to be lifted out of poverty,” the minister said. He stated that policies should be focused on the rural majority, and targeted at giving the citizens a good life and lifting them out of poverty. https://www.arise.tv/nigeria-cannot-afford-funds-to-revive-education-buhari-says/ |
By Gimba Kakanda I wrote this think-piece in June, 2017, as my contribution to the lingering debate then around the question of Biafra. In it, I underlined my reason for opposing the idea of carving Nigeria up into two, and this is still my position. I must add that we all need to study the history of Yugoslavia, at the point it began to disintegrate following the collapse of the Soviet Union. In doing so, we may realize that it’s not guns and mortars that can stop our further descent into anarchy; it’s justice, all-inclusive governance. Find below my thoughts on the subject, reproduced as first written: A few days ago, a friend asked me to explain my aversion to the idea of secession as championed by the neo-Biafra advocates of Southeast Nigeria. He had assumed it was the fear, as simplified in a certain series of propaganda, of the North’s foreseen inability to sustain itself economically post-breakup. Since it was a private conversation, I elected to present my actual reason bit by bit, some of them I can’t express in public, and offered him a mirror which, when we were done, reflected a possibility that scared him too. He saw that I was afraid of the break-up for the very reason a part of Nigeria seeks to leave. For cultural hegemony. This calculated domination of our diverse society by the elite using ethnicity, religion and all the binary identities, sentiments, affiliations and values available, to hold on to power, and to forestall criticism of them and a revolt of the masses. How has cultural hegemony held Nigeria together? The reason Nigeria hasn’t degenerated into a full-blown autocratic regime is because of these conflicting cultural hegemonies that exist like a tripartite coalition government – an ethnic arrangement that restricts the tyranny of the three parts, the “Hausa-Fulani,” the Igbo and Yoruba. And as a diarchy constituted by the “Muslim North” and “Christian South.” So, yes, there’s a mechanism of checks and balances of cultural hegemony as Nigeria stands today, along the ethnic lines of these three dominating ethnic groups, as there is along the lines of Islam and Christianity. This multiculturalism is, in my estimation, our most undermined stabilizing factor. What happens after the breakup? I’ll address the question of the struggle for power in the North instead, even though this danger of political monolithism applies to the other two ethnic nationalities and geography. The region’s cultural hegemony, which the federating South has tackled, albeit not successfully, levers around Islam and the so-called “Hausa-Fulani” super-group. A dissolution of this religious diarchy or ethnic tripartite government means, in Northern Nigeria, an unrestricted evolution of this cultural hegemony. The masses left deprived for too long and denied privileges of quality education are ever around to serve as willing foot-soldiers of perpetual manipulations that only serve as conduits to political power and relevance. This arrangement favours characters like Senator Ahmed Yerima of Zamfara State, who as governor introduced a gimmick he called Sharia simply to protect his political capitals. His friends, realizing the success of such arrangement in building and sustaining a political force and financial aid pouring in from oil-rich Arab nations, joined him in that smokescreen to enrich themselves. Some of them are parties to pending cases of corruption at the Court or still under the radar of our anti-corruption agencies. What saved Nigeria then was the existence of a member of another cultural hegemony, a Christian and Yoruba from the political South, as head of the national government. He was not only opposed to the northern political chessboard that was alienating him, he was challenged to protect the interests of the Christian, the Yoruba, the Southern and, very importantly, the minorities, in the political “coalition.” The Yerimas of Northern Nigeria may be local champions now, but the moment their allies from other cultural hegemonies withdraw, a new order of tyrannical rule, in connivance with religious clerics and socio-cultural “ambassadors,” will manifest. And there won’t be a balancing part to protect the minorities in this outright distortion and manipulation of Islamic jurisprudence, an Islamo-fascism, to institutionalize oppression and enable corruption. One can only imagine the extent of its devastations with personality cults forming around some ascetic criminals. I think this fear explains the convergence of some self-elected leaders of northern “minorities” who, calling themselves “Middle Belt Leaders’ Forum,” met last week in Abuja to debate their place and prospects in Nigeria, now and later. It’s not a coincidence that the Professor Jerry Gana-led gathering was dominated by Christians (and “other minorities”) out of political offices, and gasping for attention. As a Muslim, there’s nothing that scares me like an attempt to police my private moralities in a secular political arrangement, especially when it does not evaluate and redeem the pseudo-religious Police. It’s fascism manifesting, and I’ll rather die fighting it than be consumed in silence. So, my dear friends from the South, it’s not untrue that I do not want you to leave. But it’s not for your resources. Having assessed the welfare of my people, it’s sad to declare that these natural resources are inessential to us. We and I include you too, have neither access to decent hospitals nor schools, neither a good network of roads nor security. I only want you to stay to sustain the checks and balances of this hegemonic order. May God save us from us! https://dailytrust.com/why-im-afraid-of-nigerias-break-up |
"IPOB Like A Dot In A Circle - We Will Defeat Them" - PMB Sometimes i wonder if PMB is really in touch with the reality on ground. I read where Mr President said "the elderly people, they said this time around there would be no (secession). And again the youth made the same statement; such encouragement elders & youths in South South telling you the'll remain in Nigeria." Mr President, Those elders & youths in South South are not telling you the truth. People may dispute it but not for long. If Ipob & the SE achieve their quest for Biafra, I know the Ijaw nation & other indigenous people want to also secede & be independent from Biafra & Nigeria. But if you're of the believe that South South will want to be part of a new Nigeria when the Igbos secede, that means you're in for a shock. NOW Why do you think the Niger Delta Avengers & Egbesu Mightier Fraternity (EMF) gave the govt of Buhari 14 days for unconditionalor release of Nnamdi Kanu or they will start destroying offshore facilities in the region in 2016? Why did Annkio briggs visit Nnamdi Kanu at his hometown in Umuahia? What business did Asari Dokubo had with Nnamdi Kanu before they fall apart in 2019. Are you aware that the war Lords of Niger Delta agitation like Government Tompolo, Ateke Tom, Tubotamuno Angolia etc are all in touch with Nnamdi Kanu and to your surprise they're solidly behind him? Anyway no need to talk much. Anyone who thinks Nnamdi Kanu & some ppl from the SE is solely behind this agitations & quest for Biafra doesn't know what is happening. The President foot soldiers should stop talking to politicians from South South cos it's either they're just telling him & the core Norths what they want to hear or they're being mischievous. There are many things behind the scene Mr. President, but What do I know. https://www.nairaland.com/6597015/president-buhari-south-south-ipob |

The former minister says T.B. Joshua was close to many world leaders but kept it close to his chest, never flaunting his connections and relationships.https://www.premiumtimesng.com/features-and-interviews/466484-why-some-nigerian-pastors-hated-t-b-joshua-fani-kayode.html

How My Husband Died — TB Joshua’s Wife Evelyn, wife of the Founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua, popularly known as T.B. Joshua, has given details of how her husband died. Evelyn spoke with select journalists on Sunday. She said her husband spent about three hours in prayers before the last service on the mountain and was looking very healthy, adding that he never showed any sign of illness or worry and that his main concern was about the prayer line they offered to Indians against the COVID-19 pandemic. She added: “Afterward, he came up to shower and I left him to have some time to prepare for service as worship had started. “Few minutes later, he stepped out for ministration. “While ministering, he spoke about a time to come and time to leave. “His statements were spiritual and suddenly he left the stage and went to his inner chambers. “I waited a few minutes and thereafter decided to check on him. “I met him sitting on the chair like someone reflecting but unconscious. “I quickly beckoned on his disciples who came and tried to revive him to no avail. “Of a truth, he went home to be with the Lord and left us with a message: ‘Watch and pray.’” https://www.nairaland.com/6591742/how-husband-died-tb-joshuas https://www.newtelegraphng.com/how-my-husband-died-tb-joshuas-wife/ |

The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has reacted to the death of Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua, popularly known as TB Joshua. Primate Ayodele described the death of Prophet TB Joshua, who is the founder of Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, as a great loss to the prophetic ministry and the body of Christ. In a statement he personally signed and forwarded to DAILY POST, on Sunday, the clergyman vowed to fast and pray to avert another occurrence in Christendom in Nigeria. According to Primate Ayodele: “I condole with the SCOAN Family on the demise of the general overseer, Prophet TB Joshua who died yesterday. “His death is a huge loss to the body of Christ and the prophetic ministry. “Prophet TB Joshua was a God’s general, a true philanthropist and a servant of God, I’m shocked at the news of his demise. “I pray that the Lord God be with the family he left behind, and give them the fortitude to bear this great loss. “Personally, I will mourn the great Prophet TB Joshua for seven days, and continue praying for Christendom against such occurrences in our midst. “May His perfect soul rest in the bosom of the Lord where Peace can be found.” https://dailypost.ng/2021/06/06/tb-joshuas-death-huge-loss-to-prophetic-ministry-primate-ayodele/ |
DryMouth:Did anyone impose or force you to get those materials? I know your type. Gracias. |
Anguldi:There's no registration whatsoever but if you're an international visitor, you need to book an appointment ahead of your visit- this is done for your conveniences & security. Second, the materials like the Message CD, his book "The Mirror" are given for a token and it's at your discretion. The annointing water & other faith tools are not for sale & giving out for free. Any service day is open for all & sundry. But you need to be at the church as early as possible to get access into the church auditorium due to the number of people that throng in. |
DryMouth:What you paid for was "the Mirror" book & the CD, the annointing water giving to you is free. |
This my response to Sandra Ezekwesili on TB Joshua Ministry that's on FP. First, There nothing like anointing oil in SCOAN, what is given there is anointing water and it's not for sale. Second, There's no time TB Joshua discouraged anyone from going to the hospital because he has sponsored alot of people with various form of illnesses for treatment abroad. He says doctor Treat but God Heals. Third, TB Joshua was not taken to the hospital on that fateful day he went to be with the Lord. Modified: Some people claim they paid 3-5K. For more clarification, What they paid for was "the Mirror" book & the CD,l. The annointing water & the sticker giving is not for sale & its free. |
