Politics › Suspend Plan To Divert Our Gas To Niger Republic, Urhobo Youths Tells FG by KEVIND(op): 7:23am On Jul 19, 2020
Agreed To Join Ijaw, Itsekiri To Shutdown Operations of IOCs

Ughelli – Urhobo youths, under the aegis of Urhobo Youth Leaders Association (UYLA), has asked the Federal Government to suspend plans to divert gas from Urhobo to Ajaokuta, Abuja, Kaduna, Kano and Niger Republic until all host communities in Urhobo land are guaranteed regular electricity supply.

The youths also called for the disbandment of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and inaugurate the new board screened and confirmed by the National Assembly several months ago.

UYLA, in a statement signed by its Acting National President, Olorogun Vincent Oyibode, National Secretary, Chief Tony Ofoni and National Publicity Secretary, Chief Samuel Oghotomo also joined their Ijaw and Itsekiri brothers to call for the stoppage of sales of 57 marginal oil fields to strangers and give priority of choice to investors from the host communities.

According to the statement, the Federal Government must satisfy the demands submitted by the Federated Host Communities to Utorogu Gas Plant for Local Content jobs and contracts for Phases 2 and 3, pay compensation of N500 billion to families of victims of the Idjerhe pipeline fire disaster of 1998 and restore the Sapele Sea Port taken over by the Nigerian Navy.

“MoU with Urhobo oil and gas host communities to work out equitable formula for employment of Urhobo indigenes and execution of major contracts and supplies in the Ogidigben Gas Project as much of the gas stock for the project will be sourced from Urhobo, stop action on the proposed law for Federal monopoly or ownership of Niger Delta rivers and waterways.

“Guaranteed adequate funding for the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun and the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko and stop the implementation of the report of the 2014 National Conference, including 100% resources control, states, Local Government Areas and police.

The youths threatened that if the Federal Government fails to address their demands, they will not hesitate to join their Itsekiri and Ijaw brothers to shutdown every oil and gas facilities in Urhobo land.

Politics › Insecurity Looms As Army Hands Over Internal Security Operations To Police by KEVIND(op): 9:07am On Jul 16, 2020
Tougher security challenges seem to inevitably befall the nation as the Nigerian Army has concluded plans to hand over all internal security operations to the police.

This decision was a sequel to the petition written to the president by the police authority in which it was alleged that the Nigerian Army has taken over the traditional duties of the Nigerian Police Force. The new security arrangement handing over internal security has therefore been approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Burutai.

It has been reliably gathered that the new development was also necessitated by the claims of bolstered confidence among the police personnel in addition to the claim of newly acquired equipment. These twin advantages are perceived by the police authority to have put force in good stead to effectively maintain internal security in the country.

It was also gathered however that the police are to be fully supported by Nigerian Air Force in the counter-insurgency operations in the North East.

Consequent to this development, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has immediately ordered the deployment of two Special Police Force Squadrons to the North East.

However, security experts and many Nigerians have raised an alarm that this development could worsen the security situation in the North East and the country at large. Also, many Nigerians have raised serious concern that the new development clearly portends a grave danger of reversing the successes so far recorded by the Nigerian Army in the counter-terrorism operations.

Meanwhile, security-conscious Nigerians have also described the planned withdrawal of the Nigerian Army from nationwide internal security operations as a looming calamity that will give impetus to Boko Haram terrorists, armed bandits, and kidnappers across the country.

Threaten to shut down oil activities in communities

Call for dissolution of NDDC Interim committee

WARRI: TWENTY years after the Ijaw and Itsekiri crisis in Warri, Delta state, the two ethnic groups came under the same roof yesterday to demand a fair deal from the rich oil deposit in their communities.

At a joint press briefing, they threatened to disrupt the free flow of oil exploration activities in their communities in the state if the Federal Government failed to halt bid process for the 57 marginal fields.

They also demanded resumption of work on the abandoned multi-billion-dollar Gas Revolution Industrial Park project, GRIP, and the deep seaport in Warri South-West Local Government Area.

Chief Mike Odeli of Movement for Development of Itsekiri Oil and Gas communities, and Chief Godspower Gbenekema of Ijaw nation, who addressed the media at a mammoth gathering of both ethnic groups in Warri, also called on international oil companies, IOCs, to relocate their headquarters in the country to the region.
They added that the Federal Government should immediately dissolve the Interim Management Committee, IMC, of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, and appoint a substantive board.

The ethnic nationalities further called on the Federal Government to appoint a Coordinator from the Niger Delta region for the Presidential Amnesty Programme, rejecting the committee running the place.

They further enjoined the government to resume work on the abandoned Omadino-Excravos and the Koko-Oghoye Road projects abandoned since the birth of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

The people of Ijaw and Itsekiri added that the government should relocate the Floating Dock/Shipbuilding yard lying fallow outside the state, for use of students of the Nigerian Maritime University, NMU, Okerenkoko, Warri South-West Local Government Area.

Their statement read in parts: “The Federal Government should order the immediate resumption of work at the multi-billion dollar gas revolution industrial park project, GRIP, and the deep seaport in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State.

“It should immediately halt the current process of bids for the 57 marginal fields to incorporate the interest of competent companies owned by Gbaramatu indigenes as well as Itsekiri sons and daughters from oil and gas-producing communities.

“If not, we will be constrained to shut down the operations of the multinational oil and gas companies operating in our homelands
“The Federal Government should direct the relevant MDAs/IOCS to embark on large scale shore protection/sand filling projects in Itsekiri oil and gas-producing communities and the Gbaramatu Kingdom.

“We demand an immediate and comprehensive investigation into what led to millions of dead and rotten fishes that surfaced on the waterways and fish traps in Gbaramatu Kingdom and coastal Itsekiri communities, intending to carry out the necessary remediation so that the needful can be done for those who have suffered loss or damage

“The IOCs in our lands should apply the local content acts in their employment regime. The Federal Government should instruct Nigerian Port Authority, NPA, through the Ministry of Transportation, to dredge the Excravos bar mouth to enhance the optimum usage of the Warri, Koko, Burutu and Sapele ports in the state.
“We demand immediate constitution of a substantive NDDC board instead of the present Interim Management Committee that lavishly wasted our derivation money on COVID-19 without recourse to the communities that should have had the large chunk of the accrued money to the commission and whose interest are capitally inimical to the development of the Itsekiri oil and gas producing communities and the Gbaramatu kingdom.”

Politics › PANDEF To Buhari: We’ll Embarrass You Before International Community by KEVIND(op): 5:44am On Jul 04, 2020
P/HARCOURT – Pan Niger Delta Elders Forum (PANDEF), has vowed not to engage the government of President Mohammadu Buhari in any negotiation concerning development of the oil-bearing region of the Niger Delta, but to channel its energy into embarrassing his government.

The forum maintained that it would no longer “waste” its time begging for the development of the region again but rather expose the wrongs done by the Buhari government, which according to it, has worsened the already bad situation of the entire southern Nigeria in the five years of his governance.

Accordingly, PANDEF clarified that the institution of the N50billion law suit before Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja, has nothing to do with the grievous devastation of the Niger Delta environment due to oil exploration and exploitation spanning over 50 years, but “the deliberate lopsided appointments in key institutions and the Buhari government.”

Speaking in an exclusive telephone interview on Saturday, the national publicity secretary of PANDEF, Hon. Ken Robinson said having presented a 16-point agenda to President Buhari since 2016 and his attendant refusal to act on the demands, “we are compelled not to bother to beg his government to pay attention to our developmental challenges again. We have resolved to embarrass his government before the international community.

“We want the world to see how ethnocentric this government is. The resources deployed for the development of Abuja is from the Niger Delta. Everyday, you go to Abuja, you either see new projects springing up or the expansion of old ones. Why can’t the government replicate that same gesture in the Niger Delta region that produces all the money!

“PANDEF can never ask the federal government for monetary compensation for the environmental degradation of Niger Delta. We want to see Niger Delta indigenes appointed into top managerial positions of critical institutions and government offices. Only in so doing can we slowdown in what we intend to do to this government,” he said.

Ken also recalled that on the list of utilisation of the Abacha loot of $311million, “no mention was made of any project in the Niger Delta. All the roads in the Niger Delta are in deplorable state. The East/West road remains uncompleted till date, yet it is one of the most critical roads in the country. Our teeming young graduates are roaming the streets unemployed, yet we are an oil producing region.”

He urged the federal government to stop playing politics with the Niger Delta and call on the international oil companies to immediately relocate their headquarters to their operational bases in the Niger Delta so that the job-seeking youths can be profitably engaged.

Politics › Buhari Ungrateful After I Spent N35 Billion To Make Him President- Tinubu by KEVIND(op): 1:02pm On Jun 26, 2020
Embattled National Leader of the All progressive Congress, APC Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken a huge swipe at President Mohammadu Buhari, describing him as an ingrate on whom he spent over N35 billion to make president.
Tinubu’s outburst came a day after Buhari torpedoed his Presidential ambition, endorsing another faction of the APC in the leadership tussle that has engulfed the party, sources close to the former Governor of Lagos State told Pointblanknews.com.
On Wednesday, Buhari endorsed acting national secretary, Victor Gaidom as acting National Chairman of APC. Barely 24hrs later, he orchestrated the dissolution of the party’s National Working Committee, NWC. Yobe State governor Mai Mala Bunu was appointed to lead the party’s caretaker Chairman.

Sources told Pointblanknews.com that Bunu, Abubakar Bagudu and Nasir El-Rufai, governors of Yobe, Kebbi and Kaduna States respectively, as well as Transport Minister Chibuike Amaechi belong to the same political camp opposed to Tinubu.

Soon after Thursday’s NEC meeting, gathered Pointblanknews.com, Tinubu got on the telephone with a former national chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande, lamenting and cursing everyone perceived to be behind his political travails.

A source who privy to the conversation told Pointblanknews.com that the former Lagos state Governor complained to Akande, reportedly expressing regrets on all he did for the APC.

“Asiwaju lamented that he invested over N35 billion to fund Buhari’s elections in 2015 and 2019 and yet, he is never appreciated,” the source told Pointblanknews.com

Pointblanknews.com could not independently verify the figure Tinubu claimed to have spent on Buhari’s two elections.

The source further hinted that the embattled APC leader regretted not backing his former political ally and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar in 2019 over Buhari, and blamed El-Rufai, Amaechi and former Ogun State governor Ibikunle Amosun as the arrowheads of the opposition to his political aspiration.

“Asiwaju told Akande that had he backed Atiku in 2019, he won’t have suffered this kind of political humiliation. He said that were it not for him, the APC would not have won the 2015 and 2019 elections,” disclosed the source.

Pointblanknews.com gathered that Tinubu may have been dealt the biggest political blow of his life yet in retaliation for how he (Tinubu) humiliated the immediate past governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode.

According to the source, Buhari and other top leaders of the APC had begged Tinubu to allow Ambode complete his tenure. As events later proved, the pleas fell on deaf ears.

The APC leaders were said to have vowed to pay Tinubu in his own coin for not just disobeying the President but also carrying on like the sole owner of the party.

Meanwhile, a cold war is currently brewing between Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

According to sources close to both political gladiators, Tinubu may have since 1999 skimmed up to $1.5 billion directly and through proxies. Governor Sanwo-Olu is reportedly not pleased with Tinubu’s “overbearing demands and his attempt to control his government.”

Ambode is reportedly happy that Tinubu’s humiliation would give him some respite.

Mr. Hassan Ayariga, founder, All Peoples Congress, and a candidate of the people’s national convention for the December 2012 Ghana presidential election has said that Ghana will not make the mistake Nigerians made by voting an old man into power.

Nigerians have given their country to Buhari and he has killed the country, the country is dead, Nigeria is no more what it used to be, Ayariga said.

He also noted that the man is a old man and also he doesn't have the capacity to handle and lead the country Nigeria .he made all this known in a video clip when he was been interviewed.

He said Ghana should not elect and get careful not to also adopt Nigeria style which already is killing the country as the man is too old to handle the country.

Nigeria moves closer to becoming a failed state
The situation in Africa's most populous country is unravelling, and its president of five years appears to be making things worse

AYO ADEDOYIN
28 May 2020 • 4:35pm

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari
The clouds are darkening over Nigeria. Its government has just announced that it is unable to afford food imports, precisely when it needs them most.

The coronavirus pandemic has surged to almost 10,000 confirmed cases, and killed roughly 250 people, including the president’s Chief of Staff. Yet this is the least of my dual-country’s problems.

It is experiencing widespread food shortages, the rebirth of Islamic State (Isil) in West Africa after having being dislodged from Syria and Iraq, as well as political corruption, a media in thrall to President Muhammadu Buhari and – on top of all this – deadly diseases besides coronavirus, such as malaria.

Given the wasteland developing in Nigeria, home to 200 million people, one might have sympathy for its leader. But Buhari, an ex-military general, is seen in many quarters as somewhat complicit in the multiple layers of insecurity that bedevils the country.

He came to power in 2015 on a wave of hope from voters who looked up to him as the man to eradicate the twin evils of corruption and insecurity. Today, however, many would say that he has made both evils worse.

Indeed his own native clansmen of mainly migratory Fulani herders have been largely accused of working hand-in-hand with Islamic State West Africa (Iswap), currently rampaging through sub-Saharan Africa and orchestrating the brutal slaughter of innocent citizens, many of whom are Christian farmers.

These farmers are attacked not only for their land resources, but for practising a heretical faith in the eyes of Islamist extremists. Twelve of Nigeria’s nineteen northern states are under Sharia (Islamic law), and Christians in these states face discrimination.

The International Committee on Nigeria (Icon) recently reported that Boko Haram has killed 43,242 Nigerians since 2010. In addition, Fulani jihadists slaughtered 17,284 Nigerians since 2010, bringing the combined total to 60,526.

The true number is feared to be far higher owing to mass burnings, chaotic attack aftermaths, disappearances and population displacement.

It is shocking that all this is happening in a key Commonwealth member state and Africa’s largest economy, whose leader boasts a close relationship with Prince Charles.

Icon reports there have been 7,558 terrorist-related incidents in the last decade, with the insurgency far worse in Nigeria than in the surrounding West African countries.

Long before the murder of farmers is taken into account, this is already a massacre of Syrian proportions. But the news that Nigeria cannot afford to import food from abroad sheds more light on the suffering that the agricultural implosion will have on the whole country.

The Islamist-inspired massacres of Christian farmers, who have contributed immensely to Nigeria’s agriculture and domestic food production, mean that the threat of starvation hangs over the millions who have managed to escape the killing fields. Tragically, many of the most vulnerable in need of food are fleeing the violence and congregating in internal displacement camps prone to widespread coronavirus transmission.

It makes us question what Nigeria and President Buhari’s regime is doing with around £300 million a year of British taxpayer money in the form of foreign aid, especially if Nigeria can no longer afford food imports.

While the latest food crisis is virus-related and has been triggered by the crash in the oil price, one cannot completely ignore the pre-existing plight of vulnerable farmers, and the government’s failure to protect them from a nascent Islamic State hungry for power and resources.

The humanitarian group I lead, PSJ UK, has long warned that the carnage inflicted on Christians and other vulnerable groups in the emerging northern Nigerian caliphate will have repercussions for broader society, locally and internationally.

As I read of potential starvation in a country that was once called the ‘breadbasket’ of West Africa, I hope more than ever to be proven wrong.

Ayo Adedoyin is Chief Executive of PSJ UK, a humanitarian organisation campaigning against the persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

Politics › Governors React To FG’s Permanent Removal Of Petrol Subsidy - Daily Trust by KEVIND(op): 7:32pm On Apr 06, 2020
Governors of the 36 States in Nigeria have backed the federal government’s implementation of the petrol price modulation mechanism to eliminate petrol subsidy “permanently” in the country. This decision was contained in a communiqe released in the early hours of Monday by members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) after a meeting on Sunday to deliberate on the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

The communiqe, signed by Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, who is also the NGF Chairman, also supported the unification of exchange rates into a single, market-determined window and the use of the market-determined exchange rate to calculate all revenues due to the federation. The implementation of the new petrol price modulation mechanism means Nigerians will pay for petrol in line with the product’s prevailing price in the global market.

The Federal Government had announced a further reduction in petrol’s pump price to N123.50 per litre on April 1, 2020.

That was the second time it would be reducing the pump price of petrol in two weeks. It had announced a reduction in the pump price on 18th March, 2020 from N145 to N125 following the fall in the price of crude oil in the international market. At that time, the price of Nigeria’s Brent Crude was below $25 but it is now up to 33.24 as at today. A statement by the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA)’s Executive Secretary, Abdulkadir Saidu in Abuja said: “PPPRA, in line with the Government approval for a monthly review of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) pump price, hereby announces Guiding PMS pump price of N123.50 per Litre.

“The Guiding price which becomes
effective 1st April 2020, shall apply at all retail outlets nationwide for the month of April, 2020. “PPPRA and other relevant regulatory Agencies shall continue to monitor compliance to extant regulations for a sustainable downstream petroleum sector. Members of the Public and all Oil Marketing Companies are to be guided accordingly.”

Fayemi on COVID-19 response Fayemi also briefed State governors on ongoing coordination with the World Bank to mobilise support for States to mitigate the economic and social cost of the COVID-19 pandemic. He said the ongoing plans include accelerated disbursement of existing and new financing for States under the State Fiscal, Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS) Programme-for-Results, and mitigation and recovery support for expenditures to protect livelihoods, support local economic activity and recovery over the next 18 months to 2 years.

Politics › Nigeria Spends N254bn On Debt Servicing In 90 Days, N8 Trillion Naira in 5yrs by KEVIND(op):
The Debt Management Office on Thursday reported that Nigeria spent a total sum of N254 billion to service the country’s debt obligations in just three months.
Of these figures, FG paid N196.1 billion for the actual debt service for October 2019, N65billion in November 2019 and N12 billion in December of the same year. The DMO report also indicated that the country spent a total of N1.6 trillion on domestic debt service from January to December, 2019, with the total domestic debt stock standing at N14.3 trillion at the end of the year while external debt stock was $27,676.14 million (N10.4billion) Before the Coronavirus crisis, Nigeria was set to receive a loan of $22.7billion (N6.923trillion) following the approval of the National Assembly earlier this month which would have brought the country’s debt profile to N33.78 trillion. Available official estimates indicated that Federal Government spent about N8 trillion on servicing of both domestic and foreign debts in the last five years.

Data analysed from 2015 to 2019 showed that the amount committed to debt servicing rose with each successive year’s budget with 2015 recording N943bn on debt service. Debt servicing gulped N1.36 trillion in 2016, N1.66trn in 2017, N2.23trn in 2018, and N2.14trn last year. Meanwhile, the DMO in a notice published on its website stated that the FGN Savings Bond Offer for the month of April 2020, which was scheduled for April 6 – 10, 2020, had been suspended.

The Office attributed the suspension to the restrictions of movement in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lagos and Ogun States as announced by the president to contain the spread of the Covid-19 virus. It stated: “The DMO wishes to assure the general public that the FGN Savings Bond Offers will resume when the conditions change. It should be noted that the suspension of the April 2020 Offer will not affect Coupon Payments due to investors for already issued FGN Securities as arrangements have been made to ensure that all Coupon Payments for and redemptions of FGN Securities are made as and when due to investors’ designated accounts.”

Politics › NCDC Has Not Tested Us - Abba Kyra's Aides Cry Out by KEVIND(op): 4:12pm On Apr 02, 2020
SOME staff in the office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari have said that they were living in fears since their principal tested positive for COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.

Recall that the Chief of Staff reportedly tested positive for the dreaded disease and had gone for self-isolation where he is receiving treatment.

It was reported that some staff in his office that had directt contact with him also tested positive for the virus.

However, majority of the staff in his office who proceeded on self-isolation in compliance with the directives of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, have claimed that they are still waiting to be tested for COVID-19 pandemic.
Some of them who spoke to Vanguard on the condition of anonymity said that they were now living in fears as the NCDC has not reached out to them for test.

A source in the presidency and specifically at the Chief of Staff office said, “We are now in God’s hands. Some of us have even volunteered to be tested but the NCDC is saying that it is only when one manifests the symptoms that they will test him.

” It is only God that will help us including you the journalists that cover the State House. Maybe what they are saying is that if anyone has the virus, let the person die and this has brought a lot of fear everywhere.

“Even people have started to be afraid of the test kits because of the kind of information out there that the kits for the test are infested with the virus. This has even made it impossible for people to go out again for the test.

“The only consolation we have now is that the whole office has been fumigated, that settles everything,” the Presidency source said.
