There's really nothing to do to get a faster decision if it's still within normal processing time. Lets say for a standard application, you want to stay positive and wait for 30 days before making a case by contacting UKVI via their paid inquiry service.

When you want to contact them, include all your information and tell them why you are appealing for a decision to made on your case as soon as possible as it is now outside normal processing time which means they have not met the SLA. Remember to make it compassionate, professional and yet not desperate . ai is your best friend here, just put the right prompt and edit it as it generates something for you. Don't just accept everything ai gives you. ai don't know your mind, it's what you asked it to do that it does based on its understanding of your prompt. So do some tweaking before picking the right version that sounds like you. Remember don't sound desparate. Don't replace desparation with being uneasy. Because this is your future, getting to start on time is you planning a path for your career, future, etc.

1. You may submit it before it before going for biometerics. You may use your phone to scan your documents, where the documents have more than one page, just combine them using Word or any document processor you are comfortable with. But if you wish to submit the documents on the day of the biometrics, be prepared to get that done with a fee. I think this might take some time. I recommend submitting at home in a relaxing environment before biometrics, that way you know you have uploaded all the required and supporting documents.

Did biometrics priority service 9th of June, got SLA not met email and unable to process within the published time email the following day.

We are truly hoping on God like this.

It was standard. But regretted it though. Should have used priority, because the school offered to pay for it at the initial offer before they deferred it June. So we thought the offer will no longer be available due to a new deferred CAS and just opted for standard as there was ample time from 5/5/2026 till school start date June 15. But little did we know that it was like a case of "penny wise, pound foolish". Not like we can't afford it on our own, but you know na, you want to save money in every step of the way.
The letter was sent by UKVI June 16, after a paid general inquiry was made to them with a strong case.

Thank God for a successful visa application for a sibling after weeks of waiting and twice contacing UKVI via their paid enquiry service. Biometrics and visa application at the vfs was done on 5/5/2026, and since then the wait, with no updates whatsoever except for the automated message about not able to make a visa decision within the normal processing time

Keep your hopes alive and stay positive. If visa decision is outside normal processing times, contact UKVI via their paid enquiry service with a strong convincing message about your case. It costs only £2.74.

I wish everyone still awaiting a decision a successful one. For those yet to apply, always know that honesty is the best policy, be honest all the way, if any issues, just explain with a cover letter (with a good prompt on any ai, ai can help draft it for you). You will always remember the truth, but a lie will elude you with time.

Yes, declare it. Do not hide it.
A previous Malta student visa refusal does not automatically mean the UK will refuse you, but since you received a refusal letter, it is still a refusal even though your passport was not stamped.

No stamp does not mean no record. UKVI may be able to match immigration history through personal details, passport details, biometrics, or information-sharing systems.

In the UK visa form, answer truthfully, state that you were refused a Malta student visa in 2025, and briefly explain the reason exactly as written in the refusal letter. If possible, include the refusal letter.

A declared refusal can be explained; a hidden refusal can damage credibility and may be treated as non-disclosure or dishonesty.

Yes, you can. This has yielded success in the past and still is. As long as it's the equivalent in dollars in your dorm account, no issues whatsoever.

That was fast. Someone made the payment on my behalf using a dollar card, so I don’t know if an email notification would be sent to me once my ihs has been refunded

Find out from who made the payment for you, the refund usually goes to the original method of payment. Be sure to do this quick. I have done this in the past to where I paid on behalf of someone, and all the money started coming in from IHS to my account. I spent some of it and he come turn bone for my throat .
Although, this refund is from IHS based on the fact that the beneficiary was working in the health sector in the UK while studying (that's the dependent) so they get IHS free, meaning all money paid to IHS before visa approval will be refunded in 2 installments.

This is a 'Sole Responsibility' issue. Since the father has been ghosted for 4 years, she needs to prove she is the only one making decisions. A sworn affidavit is good, but adding a Police Missing Person report or letters from the kids' school/hospital showing only her name as the emergency contact makes the case bulletproof. UKVI wants to see that the father isn't involved at all.

Sorry I am just seeing this. These are very great tips and advices and all have been done till date. All the documentations listed and more have been extensively met. A lawyer was contacted to assist in this and he did a very good job.

If you are a single mother who wishes to get a Nigerian International passport and travel with your child abroad, This are the steps to take
Do not be scared especially when you do not have the same last name as your child.
The major requirements are now the child birth certificate, child NIN, one of the parents International passport, consent letter from one of the parents, Father's NIN or International passport or any official identification is mandatory.... mother's home address, father's address, father's phone number....basic information sha.
In case the father of your child isn't willing to send his ID, you can simply get a sworn affidavit from a high Court stating how you alone is responsible for the child and other relevant information...
Please remember to have that sworn affidavit with you whenever you travel with your child especially when you do not have a consent letter from the father...nobody will allow you get on that plane with your child without any of this...especially when you have different last name. Even with the same surname self.
Also note the father of your child cannot travel outside the country with your child without your consent...even when they bear the same surname.
I hope this information helps, i got this information from a single mother who is a frequent traveller.

I'm thinking arming yourself with a missing person report from the police wouldn't be a bad idea as well.

Have a question that might have been asked and answered before - not sure.
Is it a red flag for a lady with her kids to apply for a UK student visa alone without the father?
The father has been away - like just left the home- for more than 4 years now without trace. Family members of the father are unwillingly to disclose is whereabout. Now the lady is moving on, going to the UK for studies with her 2 kids.

I guess my question is will this affect visa approval on grounds that the father did not give consent that the kids should travel.
But he has been missing for more than 4 years now.
If this would affect, what are the gurus here advice should be the solution to avoid visa being denied.

I will give any clarification if asked.

Its exactly 10 years today I relocated from Nigeria to the US through the Visa lottery program, unfortunately our batch was the last one before Nigeria was removed. I won the visa lottery after 17 try.

Took me almost a year to get my foot on the ground. Visited Nigeria a year and half later to check on my family, wife and son, They did joined me over six years ago, I have been in and out of Nigeria five times till date...…..wish I could make it every year but with children its a bit difficult.

One good decision I took was to start and complete my retirement home in Nigeria before my family joined me, much more easier as financial responsibility is huge now. I have had two more children since they arrive, its now a family of five with three sons.

Its a rare privilege to which I will eternally be grateful to God...….Lastly I have missed Nigeria every single day for the last 10 years and always looking forward to the day I will return back if opportunity present itself or when my children are fully grown.
