Foreign Affairs3 Students Set Themselves On Fire In Senegal by kgbd(op): 11:19pm On Mar 15, 2013
DAKAR: A student leader said that three university students set fire to themselves on the campus of Senegal’s largest university to protest changes in the way credits are being counted in the college’s geography department.

Seydou Niang, who organised a weeklong hunger strike, said that three of his classmates doused themselves in gasoline and set themselves alight on Friday. Niang spoke on the telephone from the hospital, where he had accompanied the three. He said all three had survived, but one had suffered severe burns and was in intensive care.

The University of Cheikh Anta Diop was once one of the most prestigious universities in West Africa. It has fallen into disrepair and the campus is frequently immobilised both by student protests and strikes by the low-paid professors.

LAGOS, Nigeria - Nigeria's foreign ministry has summoned a top U.S. diplomat to explain why its embassy posted critical comments on Twitter over a presidential pardon given to a former governor convicted on corruption charges.
A statement issued Friday night said Nigerian officials filed an urgent request to speak to the U.S. deputy chiefof mission over what it described as"meddlesomeness."
In messages Friday on Twitter, the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria said it was "deeply disappointed" over the pardon issued this week to former Bayelsa state Gov. Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, who was impeached and laterconvicted in Nigeria. Investigators said he likely stole millions of dollars while in office.
Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan once served as Alamieyeseigha's deputy and pardoned him. His impeachment marked the start of Jonathan's rise in Nigerian politics.

One_Naira: Like I said, go cry to those that pointed fingers at you people for not including Igbo. Let us hear word with this your crying and shouting ojukwu everywhere. You kno where three aforementioned lives go there and cry to them and demand they include Igbo in their accusation if you feel like una got a case. Incase you didn't realize it Yoruba attention seeking brought your region names out. When the first accusation was made, the senator did not point fingers at SW, the same way he pointed no fingers at any southern region, go read the article again. Infact he disregarded the entire southern region. of course SW had to speak on a problem that is no way concern them and that is how your people got the light shined at y'all too. Now you're crying they didnot shin the light at SEasterners. Did SE make a fool of themselves by turning attention to themselves? Prior to SW getting themselves involved, was the argument not b/w SS and North? You brought the attention on yourselves now you are crying foul. Take this from a SS Igbo, Learn to be like SE and keep una mouth shut if una don't want people accusing you of anything.
very dump guy! You talk about the senetor's finger pointing as if it were a finger of God. The list is the refrence point not the senetor's article or ridiculous finger.

Maxymilliano: He failed to provide strong rebuttals as to how the contractor got his phone number, visited his private home in the village and in Owerri. Also, he failed to provide any objective evidence as to why a contractor would have his account number, and no evidence contrary to the amount that was allegedly deposited in his account.

This should be the crux of his response and not the diversionary tactics by bringing up issue of power play.

Nelson Mandela, South Africa's peace icon, was released from a Pretoria hospital on Sunday after staying overnight for a"scheduled medical checkup".
A presidential spokesman said Mr Mandela, 94, had returned to his Johannesburg home after undergoing the "successful" tests. "He is well," the spokesman .
The check-up was scheduledto "manage the existing conditions in line with his age" the spokesman said.
News of the latest hospitalisation had sparked concern that the anti-apartheid leader, affectionately known in SouthAfrica by his clan name,"Madiba", had fallen ill again.
The ruling African National Congress also said the hospital visit was "routine" and should not raise alarm.
Mr Mandela underwent treatment for a recurrent lung infection and surgery toextract gallstones over Christmas, during his longeststint in hospital since his release from prison in 1990.
He was discharged the day after Christmas and was lastknown to be convalescing at his Johannesburg home.

SportsLiverpool Lining Up £10 Million Nigerian As Replacement For Luis Suarez by kgbd(op): 2:32pm On Feb 16, 2013
Luis Suarez has been attracting heavy interest from all across Europe, with heavyweights Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City planning big money offers for the Uruguayan. Asa result of all that attention, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has identified Spartak Moscow striker Emmanuel Emenike as a potential replacement, shouldthe club sell Suarez next season.
The Nigerian arrived at Spartak in 2011 and the striker has been a huge success in Russia, scoring 18 goals in 37 appearances. Emenike also claimed the top scorer trophy at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria emerged champions.
Russian newspaper Izvestia has revealed that Spartak value their hitman at£10 million, and with Suarez likely to fetch in excess of £40 million this summer, the Reds will have more than enough funds at their disposal to lure the 25 year-old to England at the end of the season. Emenike’s contract runs till 2016 and the striker’s price is certain to rise over the next few months as he continues to dominate in the Russian league.
While Rodgers is firmly against selling Suarez this summer, the lack of Champions League football could compel his top striker to leave Anfield. Liverpool already have Fabio Borini and Daniel Sturridge on theirbooks but would be keen on replacing Suarez at the earliest to avoid a repeat of last summer’s blunders.

A former reporter with the Federal Radio Corporation ofNigeria (FRCN), Kaduna National Station and legislative aide to Senator Mohammed Sale, representing Kaduna Central senatorial zone, Mallam Mohammed Ibrahim Matazu has been killed by his second wife.
Matazu passed on Friday as a result of burns he suffered when his wife pouredpetrol on him and sethim ablaze, accusingthe deceased of spending more time with the first wife who resides in Kaduna.
The incident was saidto have occurred on February 7, 2013 at the deceased Gwarimpa residence where he lives with the second wife.
He was said to havebeen rushed to the National Hospital, Abuja and later to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwaladafor medical attention.
Matazu was later transferred to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria wherehe eventually died atabout 4.00pm on Wednesday, February 13, 2013.
Narrating how the incident happened to journalists in KadunaFriday, the younger brother of the deceased, Magaji Ibrahim, said the woman set her husband ablaze aftercomplaining that the deceased spends toomuch time with his first wife in Kaduna and less time with her in Abuja.
According to the younger Ibrahim, “on Wednesday last week, my elder brother called me that he was coming toKaduna from Abuja torepresent Senator Mohammed Saleh at ameeting with the NNPC in Kaduna, and that the Senator was travelling to Imo State for another engagement.
“So on Thursday morning, I saw missed calls on my phone, and I called the number, only for the voice at the other end to ask me if I was Matazu’s brother, and I said yes.
“He narrated to me what happened to mybrother, saying that my brother rushed out of his room with fire all over his bodywhile shouting that the fire was killing him.
“So the neighbours rushed to rescued him, only for his wife to come out of the house, saying where is Matazu and by the time she caught up with him, she now asked him, what can you do now?
“When the neighbours asked mybrother what happened, he told them that it was his wife that poured petrol on his body and set fire on him. At this point, the neighbours grabbed her and took her to the police station.
“Even though he wasin pain, my brother followed them to the police station. The incident happened in Gwarinpa, Abuja when he was preparing to come to Kaduna for the meeting.
“He was later rushedto a hospital in Wusewhere he was briefly treated and his body bandaged.
“According to the doctor’s report, 77 percent of his body was severely burnt. But in spite of that, he was speaking anddiscussing with people.
“Then Senator Sale came and advised that we take him to the National Hospital,Abuja for better treatment.
