Lekan Adekanbi, the only suspect arrested in connection with the killing of a staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Kehinde Fatinoye, has escaped from police custody in Ogun State.

After the killing of Fatinoye, his wife and their only son, the police said they had arrested Adekanbi as the prime suspect in the case.

Adekanbi was the driver of the late CBN staff until the day he was assassinated.

The Ibara police divisional headquarters had nabbed Adekanbi and held him in custody to aid their investigation.
On Tuesday, two policemen from Ibara division were said to have taken the suspect to a hospital after he complained of fever.

“At the hospital, Lekan was said to have pretended like he wanted to urinate and he escaped,” a source told our correspondent.
According to the source, the policemen did not handcuff the suspect, from the time he was arrested up until the time he was in the hospital.

According to sources, the suspect fled when he discovered that the domestic staff of the Fatinoyes, who was taken away by the assassins alongside their son, did not die.

He had become restless the moment he set his eyes on the domestic staff, it was learnt.

Ibara DPO removed
Meanwhile, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Ibara, Abeokuta, CSP Bernard Ediagbonya, has been removed for alleged negligence.

The DPO was removed without any posting as the command directed the most senior officer in the division to take over.

It was gathered that Ediagbonya has been ordered to resume at the police headquarters, Eleweran, with immediate effect.

Also, the officers, under whose care the suspect escaped, are facing sanctions for failing to prevent Adekanbi from running away.

The Ogun State police spokesman could not be reached as at the time of filing this report.

Governments constantly run a budget deficit, at every level. So for those who might say 'how about tax' no, taxes aren't always enough.

Toll bridges are a little different. Big bridges are incredibly expensive to construct, so the builders need a way to recuperate that enormous loss of cash. Whether the bridge was built by a government, the private sector, or a partnership of the two, projects like that are only viable if they can partially pay for themselves through tolls. In theory, the tolls pay for repairs, maintenance, and upgrades for the road. In practice, however, abuses occurs. Occasionally the toll money goes to projects besides the road itself. But generally the toll roads are better maintained and thus less wear and tear on.

Truth is, government has to recover part of the cost of making new highways. It must not be forever. After 10 years it should be discontinued.
It depends on how construction and maintenance was financed. Every so often, the taxpayers agree to build a bridge. Other times they may object to the cost and only agree to partial funding. In that case, people using the bridge are charged a toll until the costs are paid off. In some cases, it’s never paid off.
