ABAKALIKI - EBONYI State Police Command, yesterday, said, it arrested one Mr. Udoka Onwe, 22, for allegedly killing his father, Mr. Peter Onwe Elum, 60 and uncle, Mr. James Elum, 52, from Umuogodo Akpu Ngbo of Ohaukwu Local Government Areaof the state.

Vanguard learnt that on interrogation by the police, the suspect confessed that he decided to kill his father and uncle because they were wizardsand wanted to use witchcraft to kill him, saying he killed them before they could kill him.

At a briefing, Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Sylvester Igbo, who confirmed the murder incident, said that it occurred about 5:am of the penultimate day.

He said the matter was reported to Ohaukwu police station Mrs. Onyemaechi Onwe from Umuogodo Akpu Ngbo village of the local government area, noting that the suspect would soon be charged to court as investigations were still on to ascertain motive behind the dastardly act.

He said: “5 am this morning, a case of murder was reported at Ohaukwu police station by a woman, Mrs. Onyemaechi Onwe from Umuogodo Akpu Ngbo village in Ohaukwu local government area of the state.

“She reported that one Udoka Onwe, m, 22 years murdered his father and Uncle. The suspect has a church called Christ RimitesChurch, CRC, and when he was asked the reason he murdered his father and uncle, he said thatthey were wizards and that they want to use occultic means to kill him.

Why are they able to perpetrate their attacks with relative ease and why has there not been a single clue at the scene of their acts tolead to them?
For sure, Nigerians are not unused to sectarian violence. But the ones we have witnessed in this country have been predictable and the modus and fault lines have been well known to the authorities who have always donewell to keep them within tolerable limits.
The Boko Haram of Mohammed Yussuf which predated this new one can be so categorized and was well known through its operations, leadership and locations.
But how did a ragtag collection of largely half literate unsophisticated persons operating mostly on Okada transform literarily overnight to being able to design, manufacture and deploy bombs in buildings and in vehicles costing in excess of a million naira and carry out attacks in several locations around the country? How have their reach grown from just a corner of Nigeria to virtually everywhere in the country? For them to be able to mount such a sophisticated operation, they must necessarily have a well structured command and control system which inspite of their best efforts at concealment cannot remain undetected for long. So how have they seemingly defied the best effortsof combined security agencies in the country in detecting and foiling their activities?
