Christianity EtcLecturer Sentenced To Death In Pakistan For Blasphemy Against Prophet Muhammed by kilisi(op): 11:13pm On Dec 21, 2019
Junaid Hafeez, 33, was arrested in March 2013 and accused of posting derogatory comments about the Prophet Muhammad on social media.
Allegations of blasphemy are taken very seriously in Pakistan, and even an accusation is often enough to make someone a target for hardliners.
Mr Hafeez's first lawyer, Rashid Rehman, was shot dead in 2014 after agreeing to take on the case.

The lecturer has also spent years in solitary confinement, after repeated attacks by other prisoners.
The sentence was delivered by a court in the Central Jail in Multan, where Mr Hafeez was being held.
Mr Hafeez had studied a Master's degree in the US on a Fulbright Scholarship, specialising in American literature, photography and theatre.
After returning to Pakistan he took up a lecturer position at Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) in Multan, where he worked until his arrest.
Mr Hafeez's current counsel said the verdict was "most unfortunate", and told AFP news agency that they would appeal against the decision.
Prosecution lawyers, meanwhile, distributed sweets to their colleagues, who chanted "Allahu akbar" and "death to blasphemers".
Amnesty International said the verdict was "a gross miscarriage of justice" and described it as "extremely disappointing and surprising".
What are Pakistan's blasphemy laws?

Pakistan's blasphemy laws carry strict sentences, including death, for anyone who insults Islam.
The offences relating to religion were first codified by India's British rulers in 1860, and were expanded in 1927. Pakistan inherited these laws when it came into existence after the partition of India in 1947.
These early laws made it a crime to disturb a religious assembly, trespass on burial grounds, insult religious beliefs or to intentionally destroy or defile a place or an object of worship.

Under these laws, the maximum punishment ranged from one to 10 years in jail.
But between 1980 and 1986, a number of clauses were added by the military government of General Zia-ul Haq.
Gen Haq wanted to "Islamicise" them and also legally to separate the Ahmadi community, declared non-Muslim in 1973, from the main body of Pakistan's overwhelmingly Muslim population.
The new clauses made it illegal to make derogatory remarks against Islamic personages, introduced life sentences for "wilful" desecration of the Koran, and later, introduced the death penalty or life imprisonment for blasphemy against the Prophet Muhammad.

About 40 people are currently on death row for blasphemy - although so far, no executions for blasphemy have been carried out.
The blasphemy laws have been under the spotlight internationally after
Asia Bibi, a Pakistani Christian who spent eight years on death row, was freed from prison last year, following a Supreme Court decision which overturned her conviction.
Her release sparked riots, and she had to seek safety in another country.

Don't be a weak guy, if she say no leave her. She is using you to catch thrips, if u tell her bout your travel plans she will say yes. Don't be a weak man. Damnn!
There are many men who are not fit to be called men!

Sometimes, I don't blame all these ladies that see themselves as thin gods because some men are the cause.

Imagine proposing twice and still thinking of proposing the third time just because of the illusion that you may not find someone like.
RomanceRe: He Wants To Propose To Her Before Traveling Abroad, Please Advise. by kilisi(m): 10:31pm On Dec 17, 2019
Spiritfun:
I met this beautiful girl sometimes two years ago. She's intelligent, smart and well mannered. I professed my love for her some two months into our friendship but she outrightly said NO.

I decided not to give up on her but to show her more love and care. As days went by, our friendship grew stronger, my love for her grew as well. Our life's goals are so similar that I find it very difficult to let her go.

I made sure I took the center stage in her life by doing everything necessary to help her build her dreams and its working perfectly.

I started showing her off on my social media handles just to test her reaction but contrary to my expectations, she loved it. I was proud that somehow I have perforated her defences.

Along the line, she started professing love to me too and that was the best moment of my emotional life. Then I decided to propose to her again but alas, she said NO and I was very sad and frustrated and she noticed it. At that point, I decided to give up on her and focus on other goals in life. She pleaded with me not to let our friendship die because she's afraid of losing me. I didn't bother to ask her for explanation on why I should still remain her friend without knowing where it will lead to in the end. I didn't also bother to ask her reasons for turning me down two times. I just agreed to her plea and ended the conversation.

I tactically started avoiding her to enable me heal but she would complain and plead with me to keep the friendship. I sucumbed because this girl has almost all the qualities I need in a wife and because of my standard, it's really difficult for me to find someone else that matches my preferences.

I know almost all her secrets and she knows mine too except my plans to travel abroad, preferably Canada. I made sure I did not let her know about this for some reasons.

Then, I found myself being obsessed with her again and she's been all over me too.

Now the crux of the matter is that I have perfected my plans to travel on or before February next year and I want to give her the last chance and propose to her again. I've conditioned my mind to accept whatever response she will give me and move on with or without her.

My major problem is whether to tell her about my travel plans before I propose to her or vice-versa. I know she also nurses the dream of living abroad. I'm afraid she might accept my proposal if I let her know about my Canada plans if I let her know about it before proposing to her.

Kindly advise me on this please cos I don't want to make any mistakes. I LOVE THIS GIRL and I'm certain that will make a good wife for me.
I honestly don't understand the kind of men we have these days! Haba! How can you propose to someone who says she loves you twice but she rejected your marriage proposal. And you're still thinking of proposing the third time? I can't even propose twice to a lady. I don't have time for nonsense and no girl can take me for a ride.
What nonsense?

Christianity EtcRe: Question: "If Jesus Is God, Why Did He Not Know When He Would Return?" by kilisi(m): 4:09pm On Dec 17, 2019
solite3:
Answer: Speaking of Jesus' Second Coming, Matthew 24:36 (and Mark 13:32) tells us, “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”

When Jesus spoke these words to the disciples, even He had no knowledge of the date and time of His return. Although Jesus was fully God (John 1:1, 14), when He became a man, He voluntarily restricted the use of certain divine attributes (Philippians 2:6–8 ). He did not manifest them unless directed by the Father (John 4:34; 5:30; 6:38). He demonstrated His omniscience on several occasions (cf. John 2:25; 3:13), but He voluntarily restricted that omniscience to only those things God wanted Him to know during the days of His humanity (John 15:15). Such was the case regarding the knowledge of the date and time of His return. After He was resurrected, Jesus resumed His full divine knowledge (cf. Matthew 28:18; Acts 1:7).

Matthew 24:36 clearly states that the Father alone knows when Jesus' return will be. Verses such as John 5:30; 6:38; 8:28-29; 10:30; 12:49; 14:28, 31; and Matthew 26:39, 42 demonstrate Jesus' submission to the Father as well as their Oneness in the Godhead. Yes, they are both God. But some things Jesus had apparently chosen to "give up the rights" to be privy to during His earthly ministry (see Philippians 2:5-11). Jesus, now exalted in Heaven, surely knows all, including the timing of His Second Coming.
I only need one clarification please and I need a straight to the point answer, not beating about the bush.

Who resurrected Jesus from death?

There are many tragedies that gnaw the soul of Nigeria. Buhari is the most searing of these tragedies. And this puts him on the pedestal of failures of history.
In 1983,he sacked a democratically elected government of Shagari and plunged the country into an abyss of recession, following hard on the heels of Shagari's Austerity Measures. His action spurred another disaster of history- IBB.This decay and democratic rape of Nigerians went on till 1999 when democracy returned.
Not done with his failures, he came back in 2015 and exhumed the corpses of the dark days of his grotesque military order.

It's unfortunate that Femi Falana, Omoyele Sowore, Tunde Bakare, Tinubu, occupy Nigeria Ojota protesters etc all enthroned this tyrannic govt despite knowing past Buhari's antecedents in the histroy of Nigeria.

Now the tiger have bare its fangs, they now remember due process.Well that said, this is truly a pivotal basis for the stooge-CJN, NJC, League of Benchers, NBA & all Nigerians of conscience to rise up against this continued bastardization of legal & democratic process in this nation.

The AGF should have long invited the DSS boss or Mr.President that he is answerable to explain all these lawlessness or give reason why they should not be committed to prison for violating the Nigerian constitution.

Meanwhile, dspots & tyrannts have no regard for the rule of law.Only a mass revolt & divine intervention can salvage this country.
This is a very faulty line of reasoning.

Sowore has always been at the forefront of fighting the government of the day for corruption. He fought IBB during the June 12 saga. He protested against Abacha before his death. He fought Obasanjo severally, same with Yaradua. To now isolate his protest against Jonathan alone borders on insensitivity.

Please, this is for you and your ilks especially the Igbo kids on this politics section who said he was among those who removed Jonathan and so deserves whatever judgement meted on him. That's just trying to be clever by half.

I'll check back on January 1 to continue reading. By then, I believe there will be like 2 to 3 updates I can read at once.

I'll then come back February 1 to check for another update. Then March 1 and so on.

That way, I won't really stress myself constantly refreshing page to see if there is a new update.

Alfred Chestnut, Andrew Stewart and Ransom Watkins had been sentenced to life in 1984 for killing a 14-year-old boy a year earlier.

They were freed in Baltimore on Monday after a judge cleared their convictions following a review of their case. The case was reopened this year after Mr Chestnut sent a letter to Baltimore's Conviction Integrity Unit. He included evidence he had uncovered last year.

Mr Chestnut, Mr Stewart and Mr Watkins were arrested as teenagers in November 1983 following the death of DeWitt Duckett, who was shot in the neck on his way to class at a Baltimore junior high school and had his Georgetown University jacket stolen.

DeWitt's death received widespread press coverage. It was the first fatal shooting of a student in a Baltimore public school.
"These three men were convicted, as children, because of police and prosecutorial misconduct," Baltimore state attorney Marilyn Mosby said after the men were released.

In a statement, her office said "detectives targeted the three men, all 16-year-old black boys, using coaching and coercion of other teenage witnesses to make their case".
Prosecutors said during the initial investigation police ignored and withheld reports from multiple witnesses identifying another person as the killer, and that trial witnesses failed to identify the three teenagers in photo line-ups.
All trial witness have now recanted evidence, Ms Mosby said.
"I don't think that today is a victory, it's a tragedy. And we need to own up to our responsibility for it," she said.
The other suspect died in 2002.
