currently reading dom oba's biography and it's quite interesting. but there's no info on how his father [allegedly abiodun's son] got to brazil, where he later became a free black. were some of abiodun's descendants also enslaved and shipped to brazil? or did they go there as free blacks [not likely].who was his mother?
Thank you for posting this.Yes, who was his mother? How did he get to Brazil? Was he a slave or a slave trader who went on a business trip with his "cargo" and decided to stay? This is really interesting info. I checked the tiny bit they have on Wikipedia, they didn't say how he got to Brazil. I'm so curious to learn more, if you find anything new please post. |

That to me seems the main structural disadvantage we have.
I agree. I'm skeptical of the report. It is to their advantage to make it look as if they are struggling when the truth might be the opposite. I doubt anyone doing well would want to be interviewed. My sentiments exactly, that Chinese habit to underplay their successes has served them well. I see the same pattern here. I don't trust the doom and gloom picture those guys are painting. |
Very incoherent and thoughtless post. Somehow you assume that any attack on ACN is done out of malice and spite. But we are yet to see anyone in PDP utter any derogatory word against Tinubu's person, rather he has been tolerated for far too long.Has he uttered any derogatory word against any one too? GEJ does not count. I think his letter to HID was in the spirit of Omoluabi no? With his lengthy criminal record, home and abroad, it is a miracle he is not somewhere cooling his heels in Rikers. In sane countries, people like Tinubu wont even be anywhere close to power. Blagojevich, the former charismatic Chicago governor is now going through trial for, according to FBI files, committing several "pay to play" schemes, including attempting "to obtain personal gain , through the corrupt use" of his authority to fill Barack Obama's vacated United States Senate seat.^^^
Now, Tinubu is not a god and if he has broken the law he should be tried and punished, same with all those PDP Govs, GEJ and any other corrupt public official.
Messing up isnt new in Nigeria. or is it? AD messed up and that is why PDP gained some foothold in the SW. It is a cycle, trust me, we will all be lamenting ACN's incompetence in 8 yrs.Very possible. Can't argue with that. Political balkanization that will result or that is already happening? Balkanization as in Tinubu led ACN breaking off of AD? LP breaking off of ACN? And who are we to blame for this? PDP again? Did PDP cause ACN to break off from AD out of their "morbid desire to see Tinubu go down?" Are we blaming Tribune, your so called PDP paper for all of this again? You missed the point. Tinubu did not break up AD though, We know those who did and we know how AD brought that on themselves. SO ACN is now a Yoruba party? The same Yoruba party that worked against another Yoruba Senator in the NASS? The same Yoruba party that refused to meet with people from AD for the purpose of ironing out differences? The same Yoruba party that is working against Ganiyu Solomon as we speak? Preferring Akume instead? The same Yoruba party that is supposed to present our First eleven, that, summarily, without any deliberation, recalled the most experinced Senator in their midst, Mamora? replacing him with Ashafa? Why? For supporting Fashola against Your messiah, Tinubu.I don't do Messiahs. . . .I want an alternative, efficient, political operator to lead the opposition struggle for the restructuring of Nigeria from a SW/Kilode?! perspective bro. Drop their names and their CVs. ![]() When they stood with AD in 1999, they werent bad then. But when they go against what you believe, your reality, your narrow POV, they are now enemy of progress. So, it is now a crime to not agree with ACN?Yes, exactly. If Tinubu or ACN go against what I see as SW interest, they will lose my support too. It is what is it. Because you supported me yesterday does not mean I owe you eternal loyalty, especially when you are working against what I see as my present "narrow" interest No sir. HID said, Awo, before his death, "expounded on the theory of dialectics." I'd suggest you go look for the full speech HID Awolowo was referring to and read it "in order not to lose focus and chase shadows and false doctrines which cannot stand the test of political rigours and constitutional engineering". That quote is from Bola Ige's article that he wrote shortly before his death: Obafemi Awolowo: The man with a planI'm not a clairvoyant bro. I cannot read Tinubu's mind. I can only judge people by their actions and rhetoric, but I know what I want and I see those who are using their opportunity to push for it and those who wasted theirs. It is what it is. PDP or ACN? I chose ACN. For now, he's not working against SW interest in my opinion. I don't care about where he was born or the age he declared when he applied for visa at the US Embassy on his way to America, I have no evidence to prove these allegations. I suspect he's gettng sweetheart deals in Lagos though. I will examine whatever you are ready to offer. BTW, ona kan ko woja, Buhari was a better candidate with a better plan, so I supported him at the federal level, another party at the state and regional level. you see, I'm not only about party or ethnic group after all ![]() Who puts ordinary freaking title on their letter head? Or did you not see the letter he wrote to HID, with ASIWAJU before his name. Even if he never called himself the Asiwaju of Yorubaland, he hasnt come out to clarify the misconception. If that is not dishonesty to you, well would you be so kind as to define what dishonesty is?I thought that was funny too, buy you know how your people are now, they like titles; Chief this, Akogun that, Asiwaju, Otunba, Dr, Architect, Pharmacist, Surveyor, Oloye Temadu Na-we-dey-dia. Bring Tinubu down? Who is bringing Tinubu down? Tribune? So it is fine to report about James Ibori's problems, but not Tinubu's. Reporting on his rift with Fashola is, to you, "bringing him down?" Reporting on how his company is robbing Lagos blind is "bringing him down, in your mind. It is fine to vilify OGD, a self made man, an Awoist to the core, a former youth leader in Awolowo's party, a former tutelage of the great Awojobi, the CEO of Kresta Laurel, who was rigged out of AD by Afenefere just so they could install their crony, Osoba. And his only crime, going by your senseless diatribe on PDP is that he left the undemocratic nature of AD for the more democratic PDP.^^^ LOL, you sure Understood me
Now, Tinubu is not a god and if he has broken the law he should be tried and punished, same with all those PDP Govs, GEJ and any other corrupt public official.
This is the kind of arrogance and shortsightedness that people hate. The first freedon of information act in this dispensation was not presented by Abike Dabiri. When the first draft was first sent to OBJ, Abike Dabiri was still working as a presenter with NTA. Cant remember how it all started, but I remember Dapo Sarumi adressing the issue and I remember that it was actually presented to the house, passed through, but OBJ refused to sign it, killing the bill in the process. But Abike Dabiri did not start from scratch.I mean't Abike Dabiri pushed it in the House. Abike and several civil society groups like the FOI coalition pushed it relentlessly. I was making a point about ACN's efforts despite their small number. OBJ and his PDP goons pussyfooted around it for years and actually worked against it's passage. You want us to have state police? You want to have people like vindictive, authoritarian Tinubu be in control of the police? You would rather have him use the power of the state to terrorize people who disagree with him? hun?Are vindictive, authoritarian federal politicians not in control of the Federal Police? You will need to do a better argument against State Police under a supposedly Federal system. This one came short. I guess PDP owns Oriental in Lagos. PDP owns Bellview. PDP owns The Nation. PDP owns Alpha beta whatever. PDP owns the more than 16 overseas account linked to Tinubu's name in Europe and North America.^^^ LOL
Now, Tinubu is not a god and if he has broken the law he should be tried and punished, same with all those PDP Govs, GEJ and any other corrupt public official.
Now, you are now trying to balkanize, sorry differentiate NL Yorubas from the ones on ground, as if they suddenly become two people because they have access to the internet. It reminds of the Ibos and how they balkanize, sorry, group Yoruba into the Good Yoruba, like Soyinka, and the bad ones, like Awolowo. Sometimes, its always better toFrom what I know, most people in the SW obviously prefer ACN to PDP. They did not forget the last few years of PDP governance, that was the point. Now, let me go back to balkanizing my food. please, Pray for my safety as my body tries to balkanize the digested food afterwards. First, I need to go to chipotle to balkanize them with my food choice. Still not decided what to balkanize, a burritto or 9 soft tacos. The other day, I balkanized a burritto maybe I should switch things up and balkanize some soft tacos today.LOL This is the only interesting part of your reply, the rest na just unnecessary work you give me. First, I'm glad you like the word "Balkanize" ![]() Second, I think Chipolte is amazing, those people don chop my money. At first I thought it was just the foil wrapper, or the fact that it takes so long to get an order, therefore making you so hungry you can eat dust. ![]() But I think there's something about the whole foil and steamy flavor that reminds me of ewa ati rice ninu ewe , Remember all those leaf wrapped N20 rice and beans with tough meat and home cooked stew they sell at Abule? Damn! I want to Balkanize that right now. Anyway, I don't have access to Chipolte anymore, Wind don carry me comot chipolte side. I don't like the cheese in the burrito though, I always try to say no cheese, I once carried dried ata in the car for weeks just to add it to my chipolte ![]() |
OAM4J:I shouldn't really matter, the guy already issued a decent clarification. For whatever it worths, Tinubu does not need this battle at this time. Now many Yorubas will no longer be divided between progressives and the PDP but between Awolowo loyalists and Tunubu's loyalists. I am not interested in shifting blames, I am more concerned in the bigger picture and am more worried about the effect of this battle on the progress of Yorubaland. That is the issue. Anyway, hopefully they will move on quickly to more important stuff. |
@ekt_bear, whats your opinion about this report? I listened to it on NPR yesterday and I was kinda ambivalent. On one hand I want us to encourage investors including chinese ones, while on the other, I do not want us to encourage this importation of cheap finished consumer goods, especially when they are not high tech or anything. We sure can produce cheap backpacks and good textiles, heck, we were producing good textiles at Ado Ekiti, Kano, Lagos and other textile hubs before the Military totally messed our development up. This guys comment on the NPR site cracked me up though; M Jeang (mjeang) wrote: |
Katsumoto:I agree. Tinubu has a lot of work to do, there are plenty political battles in front and alliances will shift around but he needs to focus on the big picture. I don't have evidence to show he's not doing that now, unless we want to conclude that omatseye and Tinubu's Nairaland fans are the same as him. So yes you are right, he should do more to build bridges and close the gap. Much has been given to him and his associates so we expect smart results. He can't afford to be obstinate like some PDP losers. |
dayokanu:LOL Mo fi owo kan'le mo tun fi kan aya, mo s'ami adura ![]() Indeed can you play that Yoruba ronu song for us once again,Ok, I'll post when I get a minute. |
OAM4J:My Bro. This issue is just like a storm in a tea cup but I see all the usual defenders of PDP trying to make this into a Tsunami probably just to satisfy some morbid desire to see Tinubu go down. The same PDP folks who could not stand up to the oppressors of their people for 8 years. They messed up in all the SW states they controlled. They messed up terribly. Unfortunately, the upper class, upper elite in the SW will not suffer the effects of the political balkanization that will result from this. They and their rich spoilt kids will still enjoy a good life and go to the best schools abroad. But the poor SW folks who are under the yoke of this dis-jointed Nigerian system will continue to suffer. I mean, If you destroy the backbone of the ACN opposition just because you don't like their leader Tinubu, who will play your politics at this critical stage? They better start naming alternatives: Fashola? (a smart technocrat and administator) but does not strike me as an aggressive operator Obasanjo? (one of the owners of Nigeria) dream on ![]() Dosunmu? LOL Falae? (You wish) Bode George? ![]() Oluwole Awolowo and his Tribune gang? ( Yea right, we saw how much they stood on the side of Truth and poor SW folks in the last 8 years of PDP rule) ![]() Is Tinubu the only one? hell no! but he's at the front right now and acting according to script. Destroying him will be of no benefit to us or our people. Call me deluded, but Tinubu has not done anything to hurt our chances at getting strong enough or building strong enough alliances so we can re-negotiate a New Nigerian Federation. Trust, we will not go anywhere in this country until we do that. I don't see any politician in the PDP fold or any fold in the SW with that kind of drive, smart foresight and ability at this time, I will welcome any suggestions. Now, Tinubu is not a god and if he has broken the law he should be tried and punished, same with all those PDP Govs, GEJ and any other corrupt public official. Tinubu did not call himself Asiwaju of Yorubaland (whatever that means) He did not Insult Awolowo, or even his family, he even wrote a letter to clarify that. He and his Party (ACN) are building sweet alliances and making sensible political deals I don't understand this lunatic need to bring the guy down, Se won fi se yin ni? They need to show us the other alternative, is it Bode George? or Obasanjo? Most of the more progressive bills pushed or passed in the Nigerian Senate in the last 12 years have been through his party ACN under his leadership. From Abike Dabiri's (ACN, Lagos) FOI bill to the clamour for State Police and a National restructuring conference. They did all that while PDP SW leaders were busy sharing money and building private Hotels. There are more dangerous operators out there I'll rather we pull down, From IBB to Gusau and Danjuma to Aremu Obasanjo. The Owners of Nigeria gang, The statu-quo keep-the-center-strong warriors. Folks will have to show me an alternative before I support this pull-Tinubu-down campaign. In this unstructured Nigeria? I dey craze ni? Omo ina la n ran si ina ~you don't send a child to do a man's job~ Anyway, all these na NL stuff sha, I'm sure regular SW folks on the ground are not this blind or forgetful. |

Katsumoto:I was half-kidding. I'm yet to speak with Tinubu and Mama Hannah Dideolu afterall. I share your pessimism to an extent, but seriously, we have to break the cycle. This Country is at a crossroad, I predict that Nigeria will be forced to make some deep fundamental changes in the next decade or collapse if it does not. It will involve a lot of powerplay and give and take. We will need to have strong leaders in front fighting the battle for us. They won't be perfect but they will need much greater support than all these screaming at each other will allow. See, It is good to dislike group-think and embrace diversity of opinion, it is very healthy too. But not now, it is dangerous for us to ignore the bigger picture at this critical stage. We can point to the "fall" of OBJ as a triumph of opposition, and a good example of the same pattern playing out now -the same old pattern that has always played out across the SW, But we have to remind ourselves that OBJ was obviously more concerned about keeping Nigeria as one for "power/control" reasons than actually fighting for the SW or developing any region in particular. Awolowo, Bola Ige and now Tinubu are clearly not from that school of thought. We need to critically examine that fact and ask ourselves if this "diversity of thought" "political pluralism" or "democratic pluralism" are the values we want to push forward at this moment. Although they are good values for us on the long run. For now, we need an emergency re-adjustment of values, just like a country-at-war making special adjustment laws for war time only. IMO, we are at war. It is very dangerous to continue the power-play. Like you alluded to; we know how it will end and that is not what we need right now. I don't know how the Tinubus, Awolowos, Falaes other political player camps view it, but we need a more united front against "Nigeria" (not the country per se, but the dis-jointed system it represents). Nigeria is the bigger enemy we have now. Unlike nationalist pro Nigeria-agenda status-quo defenders like OBJ and co, I'm more concerned about my region. It is easier to attack the Nigerian problem from that position. I hope these people see it that way. I doubt it, but it's good to hope. Sorry, probably a bit off-topic, I had to let it out. |
OAM4J:O ti pari. It's all over, we've ended it. Idobale and explanation has been offered and accepted. ![]() SW moves on towards development, we have a lot of work to do. |
