Don't be disingenuous bro, your folks down south did not drop down from Neptune, they are human beings who make rational choices like any human anywhere on earth. People don't just wake up one morning and start walking towards the border or airport without thinking, leaving family, friends and familiar things behind. Migration is not an easy decision for most human beings anywhere.

All of our people are generally family oriented and you can observe that easily, not just among people living here in Nigeria it is obvious also through the billions in remittances sent by those who live abroad.

Most of the folks who travel out do so because they see little to no economic hope where they are or believe there are better opportunities elsewhere. There are poor folks who can't even afford to move to the nearest city talkless out of the country. Economic migration has been in existence since the beginning of time. it is hardly a spur of the moment decision for most human beings.

You might think Northeners are more contented with their state in life and therefore don't travel out of desperation, but it's obvious that is not the case, a lot of our poor and desperate Northern folks can be seen in Libya, Sudan and several Arab countries too, I posted a video a month ago showing Nigerians caught up in the bombing in Mistrata Libya, many of the folks in that video are Nigerians from the north.

I think most Northern Nigerians living in the west are from comfortable and educated (western education that is) families and are therefore more westernized than the average northern poor. I think most of our less comfortable, less western economic migrants from the north tend to hustle in the middle east, North Africa, basically countries with similar religious and social customs.

Of course the rich ones from both regions can live or travel anywhere they like, money is a language and a culture on it's own, it can survive anywhere really. Ask them at Debs

Do you have close family members in government? I mean in politics or maybe in top Civil Service?

Family as in Father, Mother, Uncle, or close siblings.

I ask because the few Notherners I know who go to school out of Nigeria hardly work, and they get their parents to pay their fees. Now, those parents are mostly top civil servants or Politicians, Not the same for most Sotherners that I know.

I can't wait for the ND to lose patience though, they really need to. All these thugs making money on the side while shouting emancipation in public are clearly not helping us at all. We need a more pro-active more purposeful movement to help GEJ pass these reforms through the Senate. It does not even need to be violent, and it could be.

Speaking of GEJ, although I did not support him and his party, I really hope he succeeds at pushing needed structural reforms, but he will need to sell his idea the same way he sold his candidacy to both educated and starkly illiterate Nigerians alike.

GEJ will need to get the people behind these reforms by all means necessary(public campaign, Public propaganda, strong-arming the Senate, calling EFCC on their backside.es e.t.c) or else these goons hanging around Abuja will pull the rug from under him. GEJ needs to hit the ground running on these issues before the honeymoon period is over.

[Slightly off topic] BTW, Have you read the full PIB bill? I read quite a bit yesterday (it was dated 2010 though, don't know if there are new changes) and I'm still worried about a few things in it, chiefly, how to ensure that the Nigerian content is properly implemented by preventing foreign companies from using greedy, selfish Nigerians as fronts since that will defeat the purpose of the bill.

Also, there seems to be silence about ND environmental pollution or maybe I've not read up to that stage yet.

I also like the call for an independent, commercial or privately owned NNPC, while we shift the regulatory duties to DPR of any other parastatal. NNPC needs to be a public quoted company.
