@ the bolded, I was pointing out that it was an Edo word, so he couldn't make that argument that the Olu title indicated the Itsekiri king's Yorubaness.

As for Ife, you do know that the site in Ife that the Ooni of Ife is claiming Benin kings were buried in is the oldest single archaeological site in Ife?

So the sacred place "Orun Oba Ado" if it is indeed the "heaven of the Benin kings" is the oldest spot/sacred spot in Ife. grin grin
Why bother with the pilgrimage after that?
That is exactly why y'all should put on your Iwu? and Odibokofo?  and dance happily barefooted to Ile-Ife every year to pay Homage to us.  grin

And while on your way to your spiritual home @Ile-Ife, pay homage to every Son of Oduduwa you meet on the way, because they are the true royals, the real blueblooded royals, not your angry subject-selves.

Imagine the effrontery and arrogance, It's like Muslims refusing to respect Mecca.  angry

You must honour Ekaladerhan by respecting his spiritual home and resting place.

For the record, Olu is an Edo word for a king/lord/ruler. The first Olu of the Itsekiri Warri kingdom was a Benin prince. Also, Edos previously used to call the Ooni of Ife (Ife was called Uhe by Edos) the Oluhe.

The Olu in the title of the king of Warri does not mean "god".
Bini boy, It is also a Yoruba word for King/Lord/Ruler. tongue

BTW, When are y'all Binis going to start a cumpolsory annual pilgrimage to Ife? Oduduwa-Ekaladerhan will be proud you now. wink

IMO, Subjects should always respect the wishes of their lord and princes, Ekaladerhan chose Ife. It is time Ile-Ibinu people stopped getting angry and give Yorubas the respect they deserve angry

I will demand an Idobale from the next Biniman I meet. . .

^^ You are right. Most politicians will slaughter anything and I mean anything on the altar of political expediency. It's a shame that we don't teach enough critical thinking in our schools. Most people are easily fooled by every lie from the mouth of their leaders.

I'm not even bothered about politicians, their "job" is to use every rhetorical trick they can to push their agenda. The society becomes "poor" when the percentage of those with the skill and knowledge to challenge their rhetoric becomes too small to be of any effect. That is what we all need to work at correcting.

serubawon:
Sorry for the delay everyone. I wasn't trying to create artificial suspense, but I had exams and was in a Training Program at the same time. I'm just glad that it's finally over.

Ok. Back to the subject matter. The verdict is in and the answer is YES!!!

I asked her to marry me a week ago and I got the answer almost before I had asked the question ( she was a bit mad because she was wondering why it was taking me so long to pop the question). Women huh, if only they knew how hard it is to generate all the necessary courage needed in asking THE QUESTION. I tried to make it as romantic as possible, while also ensuring I didn't make a complete fool of myself in the process. She's beautiful, smart and most importantly, prayerful (I need someone like that).

My biggest fear has been the welfare of my kids. I would die for my kids without thinking about it and because of our circumstances, I've become extremely protective over them. I had only one condition which is not debatable: If she wasn't sure that she could love my kids like they were her own biological kids, then we had no future, period. She found it a bit difficult to understand why I was so rigid on this subject, but this is how it is to me. My kids never chose for their mom to die suddenly and I am responsible for their welfare. If a woman makes my children happy, then I am a happy man and would live in peace. Anything otherwise is completely unnacceptable. Before I popped the question, I actually had to ask for my kid's permission to get married and I was really surprised when both of them told me that she was the one they wanted and how could I even think of anyone else. So, what else was I waiting for.

So, this is a new chapter in my life. It's a bit scary, knowing that I have to do everything possible not to compare her with my late wife. That is difficult, but possible with God on my side. I intend to write a book about my experiences (but that is still in the far future). I pray that in about 5 years, I can return to nairaland and tell everyone that God guided me in making the right choice. I really want to be happy, because I had been un-happy for so many years. I pray she is THE ONE that makes it happen, as I have every intention of making her the happiest woman alive.

I need to really thank the whole gang on this thread. A lot of comments have been very inspiring and encouraging. I'm happy for the opportunity I had to express myself on this thread and for all your support. So, I thank you all and pray that every single one of you will find that one person that will bring happiness and joy into your lives.

Hope it wasn't too boring. Remain blessed.
Congratulations bro! I Just saw this thread. What a story! what a journey!

I rarely visit this section. Your story since 2006 with all the actors on this thread, the twists, the turns and suspense was just amazing to read. I guess it's another testament to the wisdom and strength that comes with time and experience.

I wish you and your family a great life!

Without his books, I never could have passed my GCE the first time ( Cant remember the name for his WAEC version). I actually attended one of his crash lectures at OAU on the eve of the exam. Thank God

Do you remember DOEHN?
English book? No, I don't remember that author. Not sure we used it, it could be my memory though.

I remember Brighter Grammar. We had that old book hanging around the house mostly and Alawiye too, oh! Alawiye cool

Alawiye was more interesting than all those Oyinbo books jare. I wonder if they had an Ijaw language equivalent during Patience Jonathan's school days. It would have done Patience a lot of good. . .

English is not the only language on earth. Patience should just get a Translator, it's not compulsory to speak Queens English as long as you are capable of rational thought  cheesy

Lets not forget that the PDP always runs wasteful and over-bloated Government (obviously to aid corruption) that can be 'streamlined' for better efficiency and reduction of waste so money is made available for deliverance of greater value.  Oshiomhole hints at that below. Aregbe may simply be saving money elsewhere . We don't know the detailed macroeconomics of Osun State but we know that it  is not difficult , as a sincere person committed to serving the electorate, to deliver greater value than crooks who use every opportunity to steal.

Yes. You have a point. I may not fully understand the economics behind his act. but I do know that Nigeria as it currently stands is an entitlement country where we share Oil money at the end of every month.

Yes, It's not Ideal, but until we get to a stage where unemployment is reduced to say 7-10% and we get our private business sector creating jobs, producing and exporting more than the Federal government, then I will support a free education policy.

Even America gives free money to her Students with government backed loans on very low interest. They are not silly.

Education is a national security issue, we have too many dumb@sses running around abeg.

I'll rather Subsidize education than subsidize Hajj and Jerusalem Pilgrimage. or even fuel  sef undecided

The Question is; what are we going to do about it?

We keep getting leaks after leaks with specific names, dates and place and no one is being questioned, investigated or prosecuted? shocked

Its not just Nigeria. The same thing in the US, in Russia, Kenya and other countries where wikileaks has revealed damning information about corruption and collusion.

I stand corrected, but I'm not aware of a single prosecution based on these leaks.

All I hear are calls to prosecute wikileaks, Assange and Bradley Manning, what happened to all those happy, cute whistle-blower laws?

Just goes to show that we ain't all equal.

These government leaders all over the world are as terrible as the criminals they harass everyday. If these reports were about some little powerless man somewhere, I'm certain their lives wld've been ruined by now.

The chief Wikileaker who the U.S. promised today to prosecute said his Internet site was just beginning to unload its diplomatic secrets and said the documents will skewer "lying, corrupt and murderous leadership from Bahrain to Brazil - ABC
Anarchism is sounding like a good philosophy right now.

Men sure can't be free until they rid themselves of all these oppressors and their hypocritical laws.

I just think religion is such a terrible thing to fight over, at the end of the day, both sides aren't certain about what they are killing themselves for. Only Jesus and Mohammed(peace be upon him) Should really fight over the religion they founded. I'll love to watch that one   wink

So, I view Ifa from a non-religious point; a philosophy based on the time tested observations of our sages, with answers that are peculiar to us and our environment. Not necessarily a religion that cannot be changed or tweaked to fit present realities.

I.e, I don't expect people to Keep looking for an eye awodi for some sacrifice, if The bird becomes extinct, Should that Kill the message Behind that act? I'm sure some Ifa purists will disagree, but hey, that's their wahala.

What I do not like about some afrocentrists( I assume he's one) is the fixation with Egypt and Arabs. What is wrong with Ifa, voodoo, Aro chukwu long juju, or any other obviously African beliefs, religion and philosophies? Not fancy enough?
