thesicilian: Nigeria is not a bank. 6 vice presidents will further increase the cost of governance, as each one of them will have to have fully furnished offices, official cars and personal staff. And the current 4yr tenure is also good, so that whoever is not measuring up to standards can be voted out on time instead of having to endure 6 gruesome years. 5 vice president is expensive, 5 regional governors is better, 4 years for a single term is still the best, one president one vice. For the ipob if they don't put their selfish interests aside and support restructuring in a way that would bring equal share of attention and development to the east I fear they are going to make a mistake of a lifetime that would screw things up for the country, especially the east.. cos at the end of the day restructuring or Biafra non would be accomplished |

Politics › Re: Pictures From The Construction Of The 2nd Niger Bridge by King44(m): 2:56pm On Apr 29, 2018 |
arinzeejikonye: The 11.9Km 2NB hydra-headed conundrum, will it ever end? Time shall tell.
First it isn't an igbo project, but Nigerian project, it gonna affect the socio-economic developmental fabrics of the whole country and beyond in the sub region, We are running on a very huge gap of infrastructural deficit in ratio to our explosive population growth, it would be penny wise pound foolish to politicize critical infrastructures such as this.
If Nigeria was on right track since the proported inception of 3Rs at the end of the Civil War, then today we should be discussing 3rd/4th niger bridge. This is one of the pertinent reasons calls for dismemberment is being regurgitated till this day.
There have been too many miscalculations taken by past successive governments, as they chased investors in the oil and gas sector, telecoms, etc, they never deemed it fit to beam their search light on investors that will bring private capital into road infrastructure and we are suffering it today,
Another dimension, is the issue of policy somersault, and discontinuity, Tolling or no tolling, we need to see things for the realities they pose in our faces without primordial sentiments, if we settle for tolling, then uniform tolling it should be for all projects of such magnitude henceforth, and not having unequal system. Today government comes in begins a ppp with its conditions, another comes in and overhauls it all over, and the circle continues, there is scarce of resources, but due prudence, management prioritization would have done us a whole lot of good,
Now there comes the issue fluctuating exchange rates, The more inflation and exchange rate fluctuates, the more the ppp arrangements price tag fluctuates. Which would lead to constant renegotiation of the cost for execution. Like the controversial flexibility of deeping fingers in the ECA,
Another angle to this debacle,is default and disloyalty on government's part to stay true to the contractual terms by ensuring it makes true her commitment to paying the agreed counterpart funds for the execution of the project. Contractor gets discouraged and dismayed by government's inability to contractual fidelity, Here comes the depropriation of infra-funds, snail speed passage of budget etc
Another headache is compensation, there were insinuations, land owners weren't dully compensated, and this usually snowballs into legal battles.
Today some states are still indebted by the federal government, hence they regretting why they took loans to embark on federal projects without being reimbursed. And our poor structures has overburdened the lackadaisical federal government with bloated responsibilities, they now seem incapable of handling which gives the credence to the question of restructuring being overdue.
Finally, the only way forward is forward, whether the present government re-emerge or not, the project got to move on.Time is money and we already late .
Politics no be everything, make we no dey politicize national security and infrastructure, because we dey hurt ourselves by ourselves and our unborn generation.
Happy Sunday you'll. bro, APC member whoever u may be are u okay this is the same tactic PDP has been using until karma caught up with them now APC is using same strategy to deceive the east, project that will never be completed after they win or loose, at this point I now realize we are leaving in a joke country and nothing will ever change for good, all man for himself, am very sure easterners are not dumb on this one and I pray that both APC and PDP would loose next election, those two parties are taking Nigerians for fools may fire descend on both future present and past administration who package lies as manifestos |

Rexology: Nigeria as it is today does not need a novice to occupy that seat. They should rather shop for experience, competence and courage. Shopping for "untainted" candidate makes no political sense to me.Atiku is competent, experienced and courageous. Let's try the one they said he is 'corrupt ' since the 'incorruptible' Buhari has turned out to be the most corrupt government. Atiku ke, I can bet my left eye on it hin own go worse pass bubu own but I support his restructuring idea am a big fan of it and holdup whey always North what about the east, SW etc, |

Most people in Nigeria have being corrupted by the Nigerian system and their ambitions are Third World. When old ways of solving problems does not work anymore.... New ways have to be implored if PDP, APC would continue to throw puppets at us to vote for that shows they have nothing to offer, I wonder why new parties with vibrant youths who have vision and strong willed and good track record are not popping up, forget about how popular old candidates from popular parties may seem if you have the qualities listed above and your campaign, including grass root campaign done properly, the people's support is worth more than money... I wonder if there is no more youths as strong willed and gallant as oshomole ex edo state governor,... If there is enough parties with enough youth as candidates on ground with 2 attempt or more we would get hold of the presidential seat for a very long time if positive impact is felt... I am yoruba and I think all tribes major or minor has right to that seat, all that is needed is just a step. No to Bubu, Atiku and co but I support restructuring of Nigeria system of gvn |

chloride6: The relatively high staff to student ratio raises the wage bill a little.
However, UI makes a lot of IGR. UI makes enough IGR to cover 50% of it's staff expenses.
UI is however fond of rather unnecessary expenditure like purchasing too many cars and loans, don't even get me started on loans. A lot of staff loans go unpaid once they retire.
UI's high staff salary and expenses is fueled by the it's communal structure. The top echelon of it's management and academic staff act also like a cult.
When I was a second year student , my course mate's father was the HOD of a certain department. However he's tenure was also over, meaning that in a normal setting the official car attached to that office would soon be reliquished.
I jokingly asked her what her poor Dad would now drive. She looked at me bewildered and just laughed. She then told me confidently that he father even after retirement would have an official car for the University. I laughed it off. She explain that the top echelon acts like a closely knitted community.
And sure enough, at the end of the semester, he was conferred with some almost irrelevant position in the school chapel. He didn't even attend the chapel. Of course it came with an official car and driver.
