ok. about my decor.

the plan was cream, blue and black for my living room, so we made black sofas with blue and cream back rests. the curtain's blue and cream. and i will get a blue patterned rug - eventually

my bedroom's - still undecided right now, curtain's cream and red, rug is green, and i think i'ma get a red patterned rug when i decide to change it . the walls every where are cream

oh and my water's running again, yippee!! but my bathroom taps aren't working, and i suspect it's cos dirt from the tank got in and blocked the pipes somewhere. snap! now i have to call the plumber

talking about paintings i intend to change the color of my children's room from the cool cream color to ashouting lemon green,i learnt that it is great when the children's room are colorful it helps the children to be attentive and sensitive.

this is getting interesting atleast for once and the contributions aint bad at all.my pump isn't working yet cry.my side in ogba is not too quite neither is it too busy,we now have a mallam in the compound after the last travelled to sokoto without returning.
guys the new lagos mini transformer project is now in my house,i have to change the cables in the house to the new ones and i spent almost 10k for the installation i guess the guys(pivot engrs) seized the opportunity to make money out of us but what can we do except that you dont want 220-240v power.how is likwe in your area?
PropertiesRe: Welcome To My House by kingboy(m): 6:52pm On Feb 16, 2010
you damn right about the property section is such a boring site compare to auto, career section, all you hear is someone making an add,[personally i think there should be a thread where you place adds.
Welcome to my house,i live in Ogba b/room flat with a b/q at the back which i reside in.Just like your case we have been repairing our pumping m/c until i showed my agent the agreement papers which states that all exterior repairs will be made by the Landlord, guess what dor the past weeks we have not hear from them making us to buy/fetch water outside, its crazy considering the amount of money paid as rent.

Whats your take it seems the bankers dont have access to loan as they use to, i have a vacant space in a friend's house in Ogba and nobody seems to come for it guess what the rent has been reduced from 400k to 350k.What do you think
PropertiesRe: Cost Of Laying Foundation by kingboy(m): 6:32pm On Jan 15, 2010
i dont mean to disturb you but based on the thread,i really wish others in the house could contribute.
PropertiesRe: Cost Of Laying Foundation by kingboy(m): 5:41pm On Jan 13, 2010
But window & door beams dont have to be as reinforced like vertical pillars that carry the decking.
please explain better on the above statement,i have sent you a pix on which a friend wants to build his duplex.
iron mesh foundation like how many bags of cement will be needed for such a job also is the land good enough for the structure(duplex) i intend buying from that area(opposite deeper life lagos/ibadan express road.
mr last page i think i gain more than i contribute hope yopu dont mind cos i am not in for the buhaha

PropertiesRe: Cost Of Laying Foundation by kingboy(m): 6:01pm On Jan 07, 2010
its great sharing knowledge, from our discussion earlier i called a builder who's a friend of mine and i narrated everytning to him guess what he said, with this kind of foundation he will advise that you put a beam before arranging the blocks(does he make any sence at all).
please kindly shed moere light on this out of your wealth of experience that can't be bought with money

Again, l repeat, l am not an expert o!
Now, to your question.
I will go through the motions and hope l can give u an idea.

*Artisans (Senior Bricklayer and like 4 recruits) digs the trench representing where the walls would "grow" from.
*The firs layer will be a mixture of sand and cement of about 5-inch thickness, called "blinding". But if u want to be a bit "safer" and u have a few coins in d purse, you can mix some "gravel" (not granite) with it to make that "base stronger (l will advice this)
*Nxxt comes the 9" blocks which will now be placed on the "blinding" above, to go round the trench.
*About 3-coaches of 9" blocks is done (2-coaches below ground and one above)
*The inside of the 3-coaches is filled-up with red laterite/clay soil.
*Those who dont have 'much' will "floor with a mixture of sand & cement", the 3-coaches after filling-up the inside. Those who can afford more will add gravel stones (those brownish looking stones that are cheaper than granite) to the sand & cement mixture, to do the flooring and the wall will sit on this base, lik u have done a mini-raft foundation!

If your soil is the dry, red clay type, and u are building a bungalow, the above style will save u money and it will stand kampe.
I have seen i done and the houses are still commanding good rents close to 30yrs after

Cheers & good luck

Mr Lastpage, you said you are not an expert but you sound like you got some experience which is not easily gotten even in the 4 walls of the school.
with the above report itotally agree with you but a friend of mine used the above kind of foundation to build a twin duplex in asese, ibafo.
The only difference is that he had between 8-10 pillars holding the top floor,he made 2 coaches above the 2 under.
my question is that, will the structure last the test of time(the owner of the house is a quantity surveyor)
Car TalkRe: Ford Windstar Vs Toyota Sienna by kingboy(op): 5:06pm On Jan 06, 2010
totoeater you have spoken well.i made a survey yesterday with some users of ford windstar and to my amazement i spoke with two guys who says they have been using theres for the past 2.5 years and no major faults except for the usual wear and tear, youwont believe it these cars are a sight to behold.
i want to sum it all up by saying its not the brand but the maintenance culture of individuals that makes your car lovely and durable.

I WANT O SAY THAT AASOG IS A REAL MAN WHO KNOWS HIS ONIONS,B/4 I FINISHED THE WHOLE THREAD IWAS HAVING MY DOUBT ABOUT THE RAFT/GERMAN FLOOR STUFF BUT THE LAST RESPONSE WAS GREAT.
FROM MY LITTLE 411 IN LAND ISSUES I KNOW THAT AREAS THAT ARE NOT SWAMPY/WATER LOGGED REALLY DONT NEED RAFT FOUNDATION IF YOU CANT AFFORD IT.
I KNOW A COUPLE OF GUYS WHO DID GERMAN ON A SOLID GROUND IN ASESE (B/4 DEEPER LIFE CHURCH LAGOS- IBADAN EXPRESS ROAD).I ASKED HIM WHY,HE SAID HE CAN AFFORD IT.
GREAT JOB U R DOING.

I APPRCIATED THE CONTRIBUTIONOF EVERYONE IN THE HOUSE BUT I ADMIRER KOMEKN'S OPINION.PRESENTLY IN MY OFFICE 2 OF MY COLLEAGUES DRIVE A FORD MONDEO CAR(MIND MY SPELLING)THE 1ST GUY HAS BEEN USING HIS FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS WITHOUT A MAJOR PROBLEM ASIDES THAT HE WILL HAVE TO VISIT OJUELEGBA B/4 A PART CAN BE PURCHASED.ON THE OTHER HAND THE OTHER GUY ISN'T HAPPY WITH HIS BECAUSE OF A REPAIR MADE BY THE 1ST USER WHICH WAS NOT PROPERLY DONE.
FROM MY FINDINGS I THINK THE ABOVE COULD HAPPEN TO ANY BRAND OF CARS.WHAT DOES THE HOUSE THUNK COS I AM LEARNING, MY FIRST CAR IN 1999 WAS A FORD SCORPIO

Car TalkRe: New Helmet Rule In Lagos by kingboy(m): 2:23pm On Jan 10, 2009
Re: New Helmet Rule In Lagos (please read and pass on)

I am suprised people are jumping at this stupid law without considering the health implications of this policy. Nigeria is a perculiar country and it cannot be even compared to india, bangladesh or thailand where you have a lot of motor cycles running around supported by rick shaws. Nigeria practically made Okada riding an Art. 85% of the Okada riders are peasants or people living below the poverty level with very very low of hygenie. Now Okada rider would have his own personal Helmet which isnt a problem because he wont share it with any one, but what about a daily routine that starts at 5am when the "ELERAN GUY" is going to deliver the first batch of meat with blood soaked hands and sweat and passes the same Helmet to the "Eleja", who passes it to the Mechanic and by 7am the fine marketer who works for probably Zenith bank with all her hair made up to wow her clients, share this same helmet.

Imagine how many people with dubious hygenic issues will wear this same helmet all day from conductor to those spitting Mallams for a whole week.

After one week, there would be a rising case of guniea worm, lice infection, ezcema, ring worm, lapa lapa and a host of horrible diseases that no one is ready to even dream about. Who cares if you are financially okay to solve the medical issue? Probably next week, you would be visiting your doctor again to treat you for another disease passed unto you by a vulcanizer in Ajegunle.

This is a government complaining that it doesnt have the funds to fund the health sector properly. Now it has decided to trigger of a time bomb of health issues. Listening to the arguments of the FRSC, is so lame and strawman in it approach. They argue that it is to protect the safety of the passenger against head injuries and accidents, but on a cursory look, we realise that most Okada injuries arent caused only through head injuries but through broken legs, injured elbows, scratches and wounds through your back or belly or exhaust pipe wounds close to your feet.

Nobody is hearing anything about buying shin guards to protect the knees or elbow. What about families that rely on Okada to take their kids around? I have seen a family of 5 on an okada before. Father, mother, 2 children and a baby child. Is the baby not also entitled to wear a helmet too? Are the 2 little children not entitled to wear Helmets too?

What about school children? Both dirty and clean ones. The dirty boys play footbal all day in school with dusty feets and sweaty clothes and still use these same okada and helmet that an oil worker in chevron would still use to get home!

What manner of intelligence is this? Can the Nigerian Nation survive an impending Health epidermic when we are even struggling to keep in check the health problems that confront us?

Also this nonsense of talk of buying your own personal helmet and carrying it around as a fashion fad is ludicrious to say the least? When women have weddings, they should carry their helmets and the present together and wear the Helmet ontop of the gele? Bankers should carry helmet around when marketing to the offices of clients as if they are pizza delievery boys? Students Should carry their bags and helmet to school together because it is an extra curricular activity?

What if you go to work with your own helmet and it gets stolen? who will share Helmet with you? You are stuck with the Lapa Lapa infested Helmet that you will involuntarily pass to your family members and your family members can be so kind to share with you the lastest bout of ring worm that they recieved from shukura the garbage man?

I am scared of Nigeria now!
