EducationRe: Most Overhyped Courses In Nigeria, the FACT!!!! by klassic(m): 4:38pm On Aug 09, 2016
Asssmasher:
Well, the list below can't be 100% accurate or impeccable,so I stand to be corrected. If you notice a loophole, just pinpoint it out and admonish instead of beating around the Bush and throwing tantrums, if you do the latter,It's obvious you have no iota of sense.
Now, back to the matter!!
I've stated substantial rationales to back up my assertions.

(1)LAW:-An enlightened mind shouldn't be oblivious to the level of esteem placed on this course. Most people who pick this course in jamb only do so because of the prestige and follow the bandwagon without having no modicum of sensitisation nor awareness what it holds for them ultimately in Future.Actually, law was a hot a couple of decades ago at least, Most of 'em after the whole six years rigor(law school inclusive) settle down for all these mushroom firms with a very meagre pay(Gani's,festus' firm and d likes).Even d coporate firms hardly pays what an ordinary med lab intern earns. To get recruited into these coporate firm is tantamount to a camel trying to fit in into a needle's eye, despite the level of connection.A thread was created a year ago by a lady who was having a second thought about her making a mistake studying law.She was only being outspoken and venting her frustration, that which most fresh law graduates pass through nowadays. Most of our law colleagues back then who felt they're on top of the world because they were studying law are either doing charge n bail, roaming about aimlessly around CAC offices, working in these firms for little or no pay or seeking affidavits here and there. It's actually a nice course, but without connection, you're as good as useless regardless of how excellent your grades are.

(2)Medicine:-Yh,Yh grin most people will be stunned seeing this "Ethically noble* course on the list. But the fact stands,it's overhyped. Why do you think most docs are doing USLME exams just to leave this countryhuh
More reason NMA is always going on strike every now and then, fighting for allowances and taking to the street with placards after all the 9+years rigor.Even the residency primaries exams are conducted just to fail 'em.That's why we hardly have consultants nowadays, that which is the acme of d career, even a junior executive trainee in KPMG earns well above a consultant.More than 80% of docs aren't specialist,a lot are just trivial medical officers who earn just like any other civil servant with little or insignificant difference.Only national, neuropsychiatric and FMCs pay quite well for docs, same can't be said for the ones in maternity centres, private hospitals and state hospitals(who are even affected by d inability of d state to pay their workers). It's a course where you stress more than you deserve. To d jambites out there, think twice before going for it,even as a consultant, which has a very slim chance of becoming, all these small boys and girls who are marketers,ET or EA in reputable private firms will earn well above you as an entry level graduate.Except for the prestige, it's not much of a big deal at all.I have a couple of them as friends who have abandoned the medical profession to do MBA hoping to switch to the finance sector.

(3)Engineering :- I've collectively consolidated all the engineering courses under this canopy. Most of 'em only wish to work in oil companies and nowhere more, but the question is,How many of these companies recruit?Even the multinational ones like haliburton and Schlumberger with syndicates here in Nigeria hardly put out any vacancies, they may not denounce any vacancy in a couple of years. Is it computer science which you don't even need to study to know more about it than the graduates themselves?Or mech engineer where our automobile industry is as good as useless?Or chemical engineer where how manufacturing industry would rather sought the services of foreign technicians to these LA cram LA pour stereotyped minds? And many more?Engineering and geology graduates constitute d greatest percentage of the graduates faced with unemployment

(4)Accounting:-Mtcheew,you don't even need to study this course to work as an accountant in any reputable firm.in this present age where a fine art undergraduate can apply for professional exams like:CPA,ICAN or ACCA.Even all these private firms would prefer someone with a MBA cert to a person with first degree IN accounting to his CV.Even with your first degree In accounting,You stand no chance of landing Nice jobs without having any professional cert,so what's the big deal?

(5)Banking and finance:-You don't need to study this course to work in a bank, even as a full staff. Anyone can work in a bank. Anybody with a professional cert stands a better chance of getting recruited as a full staff than someone with a banking and finance degree who might better still get a contract job or worst,no Job at all.

I was a lil' bit hasty typing this.Forgive any grammatical blunder or contextual error.
Lol@op . A typical Nigeria youthman that still lives inna industrial age of the 19th and 20th Century and not the Computer of the 21st century.
The following courses does not need a full time job.
Law : There is a saying in the legal profession that "it's like a wine, the older to more expensive". No body wishes to trust a young lawyer with a deal worth millions or hundreds of thousands or highly contentious matters except the lawyer has proven his salt. And this he most do my continuously updating himself, being witty and a street lawyer.By street I mean the ability to develop thick skin against intimidation against senior lawyers and hazard that comes with the job, same for engineering and medicine.
Engineering: A machine engineer finishes from school and cannot even work his own car or fix his plant nor install one. What a shame. I have a friend who is an engineer, as a young graduate he spent his holidays in his father's workshop fixing cars and learning the trade while the swagarlicious friends will make jest of him and tease him. Some friends/course discovered theirselves and decided to join him instead of going home during holidays. And during nysc he would use his spare time to go work free in a major car dealership and servicing company in Lagos. They immediately employed him after serving. A year later the India coy sent him to mistubushi coy in Japan to learn more. He came back stayed for a few months and decided to open his own services coy . Standard one. Today is fixes brand new Japanese cars and also works as consultant for some other coy.
My point he realised there were no jobs and decided to create jobs using her educational experience which is what is obtainable in today's world.
Gone are the days of go to school, get good grades , so you can get a good job. Those days are gone. Today it's go to school and develop yourself son you can create jobs. I rise.

Troops clash with villagers in Minna; soldiers, civilians killed.

EXCLUSIVE:

The Nigerian Army said on Friday that three soldiers and seven civilians died in a clash between soldiers and some residents of Kpaidna community in Niger.

Njideka Agwu, a major and Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 31 Artillery Brigade, Minna, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna.

Ms. Agwu said the incident occurred at 2.00 a.m. on Friday in the community located in Bosso Local Government Area of the state.

“The 31 Artillery Brigade of the Nigeria Army, Minna, was on a joint operation with the Nigeria Air Force Quick Response Group in the area when we were attacked by the villagers.

“We were on a cordon and search operation in the village because we got intelligence report that there were caches of arms and ammunitions in the area.

“During the operation, three soldiers and seven civilians lost their lives, while 57 villagers were arrested by the joint operation,’’ she said.

Ms. Agwu said arms and ammunition were recovered during the operation which was still ongoing.

“Trouble started when some of the villagers denied the military access to their houses to enable soldiers search for arms and ammunition believed to be stockpiled there.

“During the clash, six operation vehicles belonging to the army were destroyed by the villagers; four were set ablaze while two were vandalised,’’ she said.

Ms. Agwu enjoined law abiding citizens in the area to go about their normal businesses as the operation was to safeguard lives and property.

She urged members of the public with useful information that would lead to the recovery of arms and ammunition in the area to report to the nearest security agency.

Bala Elkanah, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, confirmed the incident which he described as “purely military matter’’.

“It was purely a military operation. We (police) were not involved.

7 arrested for supplying explosives to militants

ON AUGUST 5, 20163:53 PMIN NEWSCOMMENTS

Nigeria has arrested seven suspects for allegedly supplying high-calibre explosives and detonators to militants wreaking havoc on key pipelines and facilities.

National Security Adviser Major-General Mohammed Monguno said on Thursday the explosives were diverted from an explosives-distribution company in the Niger delta to the rebels.

“A detailed audit of the records of explosives magazines and quarries in that region was conducted, which revealed the diversion of about 9,000 kg of high explosives and 16,420 pieces of detonators for illegal use,” he said.

“The actors, including the storeman of a major explosives distribution company in Nigeria, an accomplice and five security operatives, have been arrested and handed over to the appropriate authorities,” he said.

Monguno said an inquiry has been launched.

“Right now, investigations are being conducted and I can assure you that they are deeply culpable and necessary action will be taken on the conclusion of these investigations,” he said.

He said any company implicated in the illegal diversion will be sanctioned.

“Any individual or company that operates outside the confines of legitimacy or legality will have itself to blame, and we want to add that the government of the day will not listen to… any company that decides to sabotage national security.”

Nigeria has been plagued with devastating attacks by militant group the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) since the start of the year.

Oil majors like Shell, Chevron, Exxon, Eni and state-run Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation have been targeted.

The attacks have slashed output at a time when Nigeria is struggling with low global crude prices which have hammered government revenues, weakening the naira currency and pushing up inflation to 16.5 percent, an 11-year high.

The rebels want oil majors to leave the Niger delta, blaming them for contributing to widespread poverty and under-development of the region.

They also seek self-determination for the oil-producing states in the delta.

The Avengers, who have spurned a government truce, are believed to have sympathies for Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, a fugitive former militant leader wanted for corruption charges.

CrimeU.K Jails Nigerian Trafficker, Asemota, For 22 Years by klassic(op): 5:45pm On Aug 05, 2016
ON AUGUST 4, 20167:21 PMIN NEWSCOMMENTS

By Soni Daniel, Northern Region Editor

A British Court today sentenced a Nigerian woman, Franca Asemota, to 22 years in prison for trafficking in young girls.

Asemota,38, who was extradited from Nigeria to the UK by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, was found guilty of attempting to traffic Nigerian girls through Heathrow Airport to work as sex workers in brothels across Europe.

She was convicted on Wednesday at Isleworth Crown Court of eight counts of conspiracy to traffic persons for sexual exploitation, two counts of trafficking persons outside of the UK for sexual exploitation and two counts of assisting unlawful immigration.
According to court documents, she was part of a criminal network that trafficked girls, boys and women from Nigeria to Europe using threats to guarantee their compliance.

Franca Asemota was identified as a trafficking suspect in 2012 but fled from Italy to Nigeria when some of her co-conspirators were arrested by Immigration Enforcement investigators.

She spent time in Europe before the National Crime Agency (NCA) tracked her down to Nigeria. In an operation co-ordinated by the NCA she was arrested by the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crime Commission in Benin City in March 2015. Once her identity was confirmed Asemota was then extradited back to the UK in January this year.

She was found guilty of conspiracy to traffic for sexual exploitation and assisting unlawful immigration after a four-week trial at Isleworth Crown Court.

Reacting to the sentencing, David Fairclough, from the UK Immigration Enforcement Crime team, said: “Asemota was the lynchpin of a trafficking ring which targeted vulnerable young women in Nigeria, promising them a brighter future working in Europe.

“But it soon became clear that this was far from the truth. The victims, some as young as 13, were told they would be sold into prostitution. Asemota travelled with the girls in order to threaten them and keep them in line.

“Trafficking is a despicable crime, as this case shows. We work closely with our law enforcement colleagues internationally to identify the criminal gangs responsible and put them before the courts.”

Martin French, head of the NCA’s UK Human Trafficking Centre, said:

“Franca Asemota and her criminal network took advantage of these vulnerable young women in some of the worst ways possible.

“They promised them a better life but in reality treated them as nothing more than a commodity to be sold into slavery.

“Asemota thought she could evade arrest by fleeing Europe and hiding in Nigeria. But the NCA’s partnerships give us global reach and mean international borders are no barrier to justice.

“This conviction is the result of many years of dogged investigation and co-operation between the NCA, Immigration Enforcement and our law enforcement colleagues both at home and overseas.”

Asemota’s gang targeted teenage girls in remote Nigerian villages, some of whom had never left their home area before, telling them that educational work awaited them in Europe. The girls would stay with her before leaving, and in interviews with specialist officers from the NCA’s Vulnerable Persons Team many of the girls told how they referred to her as Auntie Franca.

Asemota travelled with the girls on flights from Lagos, Nigeria, to Heathrow, between August 2011 and May 2012, with the intention of reaching France. They remained airside during the transit at Heathrow so were not subject to Border Force passport checks.

However, the trafficking attempts were prevented when French Authorities identified the girl’s false documents on arrival in France. When they were then returned to the UK, Border Force officers carried out further investigations and the case was quickly referred to Immigration Enforcement criminal investigations.

During the trial, five of Asemota’s victims gave evidence against her. One of them was rescued from prostitution in Montpellier, France, during a joint operation by Immigration Enforcement and the NCA.
The cases are part of Operation Hudson, an Immigration Enforcement-led investigation targeting a number organised crime groups suspected of trafficking young women, via London, for the purposes of sexual exploitation.

Two other people were convicted in 2013 as part of Operation Hudson. Odosa Usiobaifu, of Enfield, London, and David Osawaru, of Benin City, were sentenced to 14 years and nine years respectively.

Excuzeme:
Thank you for this summary.

At the bolded:
The Op said her father and Mother are NOT legally married, in her previous post. She wont be an 'automatic' Next-of-Kin except the father has stated so in a document, when he was alive.

Also, The letter of Administration IMO, would NOT make a younger sibling the the Administrator of a deceased estate (where other older Siblings are also available and contesting it) as that would be against any principle of equity and natural justice rather, the Court will APPOINT INDEPENDENT ADMINISTRATOR(S) who would see to the proper sharing of the Estate.
I made reference to banking document or any other document showing the next of kin. She said also that the parents we legally married ,I.e church wedding . And in church wedding , two certificates are usually given or one at times. But mostly the statutory certificate issued by the marriage registry to a licensed church. And she went further to state that the certificate is with her mum. And from my experience in divorce proceedings, the statutory certificate is usually given to the women and not the men. I drew my conclusion from the above mentioned.
In the absence of the above stated, you are absolutely correct. I will prefer they ask the court for an order to sell the properties so that peace can reign. In the interim, for an interim injunction restraining the half brother from collecting rents , managing and or interfering with the management of the res pending the determination of the substantive suit. That the court should appoint a property manager to manage the property pending the determination of the suit. In the way status quo ante can be maintained .
FamilyRe: The Son My Late Dad Had Out Of Wedlock Locked My Mum Out Of Our House, Pls Advis by klassic(m): 2:47pm On Jul 28, 2016
First , I will advise you don't struggle properties with him especially if he is uneducated, desperate and diabolic.
Just get a flat for your mum and move out life first . Your father will deal with him from his new home.

Legally, you can approach it on two grounds, find out who your father made next of kin, you can easily get this from his banking details, in the absence of any other reference document, get a lawyer to help you process letter of administration , since your father died interstate. That automatically makes you the administratrix of your deceased fathers estate.

Secondly, I will like to know which part of Nigeria do the property domicile, and which tribe you guys are from. You can approach the court for the court to share to property or request the properties be sold and the money shared depends on what you want.
Your half brother has right of inheritance and can exercise same not withstanding the circumstances sorrounding his birth. He has an inherent right to freedom from discrimination pursuant to the 1999 constitution as amended.
Approach a lawyer , if you don't have money go to the office of the Public Defence or a female lawyer might take your case proborno depends.
I can't give you all the legal advise here . Make lawyer self chopchop grin

She had the intent to kill or cause grevious bodily harm and if the had only succeeded in causing serious bodily harm and the deceased passed on within a year and a day, she will still held guilty for murder . How you took law into your hands by becoming the prosecutor and the jury. Pasting all her credentials thereby ruining her personality and her marketability at what she does whether as a house help or Nanny. She has lost income from potential employee and future earnings too. If she sue you. You will run bankrupt may God forbid. So think from the position of the law as against the emotions. Cos when the soup don nairaland folks won't be there to eat it with you.
And also Mr. Osewa should try and regulate what is being moved to front page cos one day a law suit might just emanate from it . Because nairaland indirectly contributed to this by the failure of the mods to do the needs, screen what is being posted and moved to the front page.
I feel bad for the poor girl, because we know this jazz things happens and not withstanding that, we didn't even get to hear her side of the story before defaming her. There are always to sides to a coin . Mind the side you choose. Thanks

FamilyRe: Two Wasted Months Of Marriage by klassic(m): 6:38am On Jul 25, 2016
That process is called bonding. It helps the marriage to work better . I.e the oil that lubricates the marriage.

Our ancestors did it in the form of helping the wives out in their farms with his friends, helping fetch fire wood for the wife to cook, bringing meat , some special tubers and vegetables home for the wife to cook, etc.
This is a new age, woman and men no longer farm to earn a living and nature abhors vacuum. So it will take another form . E.g the man making some special dinner for the wife, suprise trips, gifts, helping out in the kitchen occassionally especially if she is not too fit, but always know where to draw the line before you before akpan. grin.
Mind you, when you help a woman or surprise her occasionally. Maybe just an outing or cinema. She will always wanna reciprocate and in the process you get to know yournselves better giving the different background and socialization.

FamilyRe: Two Wasted Months Of Marriage by klassic(m): 6:28am On Jul 25, 2016
The op is not too involved in the marriage , the op has a good heart Which is number one, and he feels partially responsible for not taking steps to talk to the man when he noticed cracks on he wall. Old couples that are good are often suppose to help noture young marriages especially when they are very very young couples.
The problem with this marriage is very very simple and the problem is idleness, lack of communication and understanding.
The wife I presume is still in her twenties and hate loneliness and wish the husband would be her pillar and her best friend.
The husband is a workaholic who feels all I need dobisbmake money and make my home okay. No communication. No time out , no wife's time or couples time. No attention towards the wife and I don't blame both couples. The intruder friend that ought to mend the bridge is the devil here.
The simple truth is she is not married, and she has one mission make her married friend forget about her marriage. Whether or not she wants to take over is a different thing entirely. All the older couple needs to do, is help find the run away wife , counsel both of them seperately and have the new couple talk in private. Maybe have them go on a short trip within town or out of town for days or weeks. Just the two of them. No phones , no calls,no friends.
They will have all the time to either fix their marriage or break it down them selves. Then prayer against the devil of a friend. That's all I can say, i rise.

RomanceM Why Married Men Cheat by klassic(op): 6:03pm On Jul 20, 2016
So why do some men cheat in relationships' almost all men know that cheating is wrong, yet many still do it.Men will blame their reasons for cheating on their genes and their necessity to reproduce. However, aren't we supposed to be further evolved than a chimp' Shouldn't we be able to control our bodies through our minds and conscious decisions', apparently not always.

Here are the top reasons why married men cheat

1. Because they had the option. The old saying 'men are only as faithful as their options' can sometimes ring true. Men don't get offered sex as often as women so when the opportunity does arise, it can be very difficult for them to turn it down.

2. It boosts their ego. Sometimes men don't feel like they are attractive to the opposite sex anymore and when a woman shows some interest, not only does a man react, he may allow her to stroke his ego and more. There's nothing like the thrill of the chase to men on the hunt. When they are finally rewarded for their efforts, their egos swell even larger.

3. You grow apart. Maybe the two of you didn't have as much in common as you thought. He's met a woman who has more in common with him who loves football or plays golf. He may check out if he is compatible with her under the sheets also.

4. You argue a lot. Men will sometimes cheat to get away from an overly critical or argumentative partner. Who wants to be around someone who is constantly on them about something?

5. He's fallen out of love. Sometimes men become so comfortable in a relationship, they don't know how to get out. They may be staying in the relationship because of the children or for financial reasons. However, they feel like they are missing out on love and may seek it out elsewhere. In their mind, this is as close to win-win as they can get.

6. Your sex life sucks. If a man has a disinterested partner or isn't getting enough sex to fulfil him, there is a good chance he will have an affair. Just because you have a husband or boyfriend, does not mean you can stop trying. It takes a little bit of effort to keep your sex life from getting boring and non-existent. Some men cheat because they want to try new sexual things that their current partner will not try.

7. To get revenge. A man will sometimes cheat if he finds out his partner was cheating on him. How else is he supposed to heal those hurt feelings of his but through good old fashioned sex'

8. It’s new, different and exciting. Some men get tired of having steak for dinner every night and want to try a hamburger. The same goes for sex with a woman. That's why men don't necessarily always cheat with women who are more attractive than their partners.

9. To see if they can get away with it. If a man has the attitude of 'what she doesn't know, won't hurt her,' he may cheat to see if he is sneaky and smart enough to get away with it. However, with all the advancement in surveillance spy ware, getting caught has now become easier than ever.

Being there for you, means going thru the best and worst moments with you.
E.g , I met my wife then a girl friend in 2006, she just sec school and computer school. She was working as a cashier in a cafe. Then I had nothing was still strolling in bathroom slippers. She choose to date me despite all the rich Yahoo guys asking her out who could spoil her. She had to quit her job in 2007 when I gained admission to Uni, she gave up her dream of going to Uni for me to finish mine while she managed all the businesses we had . Through thick and thin she was there, no money she was there , opening shop by 8am and closing by 10pm . Sometimes rain will drench her home, she never complained not even when her friends and family kept telling her I will dump her ass immediately after I graduate or finish Law school. The money she made from the biz assisted me thru school. She gave up Xmas dress, birthday gifts , risked her life for a better future for me and took care of me when I had severe chest pain and accident . Took care of my momma when she was hospitalized for weeks. She practically moved to the hospital.
We dated for 9years plus all through school before we got married this year. Her savings from the business helped me settled down as in major relocation to the city, a nice apartment and a cool car to stroll round while she got nothing for her self. Now that's a perfect example of the OP 's question. She is today my wife. Despite not been a graduate, she is my finest and most cherished jewel . A woman God used to mold my destiny when I was a complete mess nd contemplated suicide.

Yes I do visit her even whenever I called her I use to asure her how I truly love her and encourage her to face her studies that things will get better soon
Not at all, I don't have key to her apartment but I don't want to see her again not to talk of visiting her....am not violent at the moment but what surprise me most is that, when I called her on sunday her tone was bold and clear to tell me that " it is over between us"
I will not advice you to go poo, so you don't end up having bp if you end up meeting a new guy in her apartment. Thank God it happened now, not when you later. You can talk to your boss if you guys are pals he will understand and give you time off work to get your self together , so you won't blunders that will Cost you your job.

PoliticsBenue Commission Report: We’ll Shutdown EFCC Office If… Middle Belt Group by klassic(op): 7:58am On Jul 07, 2016
MAKURDI—The Middle Belt Renaissance Movement, MBRM, has threatened to occupy the Abuja office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, by Thursday, over perceived inability of the commission to commence the prosecution of 52 persons allegedly indicted by the Justice Kpojime Commission of inquiry in Benue State.
Addressing reporters, in Makurdi, National Coordinator of the group, Kuanum Terrence, said the action would be aimed at compelling the EFCC to do the needful by commencing the prosecution of those indicted by the panel.
Terrence said, “We are bothered that after the report of Justice Elizabeth Kpojime Commission of enquiry which indicted former Governor Gabriel Suswam and 51 persons for allegedly looting Benue State treasury was submitted to the EFCC, the matter has been swept under the carpet. We have resolved to occupy the head office of the commission in protest over their inaction and after 72 hours, if they still fail to commence the prosecution of those indicted.
'Reacting, former Senior Special Assistant to former Governor Gabriel Suswam, Mr. Job Tsegha said the agitation was belated noting that a Makurdi High Court had recently in a ruling, quashed the report of the panel“

I am not sure the MBRM is conversant with the developments in Benue State because the Kpojime report has already been quashed by a Makurdi High Court"

The whole thing was a witch-hunt so they should get their facts right.”

Same thing was going through my mind. Women who don't check their husband's phone or monitor his calls usually have better marriages.
You are absolutely correct . I have a big friend whose wife have never one day concerned her self with the husband's phone not even when they sleep on the same bed. Their marriage is almost 30years now. And they both love themselves like mad. I know the man does not Joe with his family neither does the woman her husband. Most of the husband's properties are in her name to show how much the mn loves the wife.but he dey cheat steady . He is in his early 60s but the man na LovePeddler among men. He will remind me that his marriage is still strong because he will not check the wife's phones because he believes the will not cheat .Hence he trust his wife. The wife suspects the man even from day one giving the kind of friends the man keeps. But the wife does not go thru his phone cos the day she will, she will get heart attack. If she dies, life goes on for the man.learn to keep distant woman. Curiousity they say kills the cat. I rise
