The best internet business is information marketing where you sell what you know.
In my own opinion, blogging is the better option to market and sell what you know
i know poultry business and have been blogging about it for years
My poultry blog is among the Top 50 in the world, listed by Google and my market is Nairaland.
I advise Nigerians going for internet business to have something to sell, sell via blogging and do the marketing via Nairaland.

Hello sir. I have a plantain farn already. I am trying to raise money for weeding. Am really concerned about the health of the plants. The farm is about 3 months now and i have not been watering cos of distance and finances. What do u recomend ?

You started the planting at the wrong time,a belated hour and you do not have irrigation facilities
Weeding can be controlled either chemically or manually and care must be exercised not to damage the superficial root system of the plantain. To manage and control weeds in a plantain farm, you can intercrop with early maturity crops in the space between the rows of the plantain and careful selection of the type of crop to intercrop must be made to avoid competition

I started by arranging for Workers to carry out the manual clearing.

This is because of the small area of land is involved.

If you are cultivating acres of land, its not advisable to use manual workers, tractor is preferable.

I will be showing you later in my articles the advantage of making use of tractor with another success story of another plantain farm with pictures.

You have got to stay connected to this thread as i will be downloading all that you need to know for a successful plantain farming in 2015.

Manual clearing is preferred to mechanical deforestation because heavy machines destroy the top soil which contains valuable organic matter essential for growth and development of the plantain

Before plantimg is done
Hole is dug of about 10-15cm below the ground surface.
This can be done 2 days before planting.

Suckers are gently lower into the hole and covered.

It is watered 12-24hours after planting with subsequent watering at every 2 days interval.(3 times in a week)

Before planting can be done, pegging the land comes first. then holes are dug according to the size of the planting materials. During digging, the top soil should be separated from the subsoil. when the planting is to be done, place the sucker in the hole and cover first with the top soil before the sub soil

Plantain needs a good land preferably soil rich in.nutrients for optimum.growth.
Good land preparation is needed either manual or mechanical.

I personally prefer using tractor to.prepare the land because it is faster, the soil is well prepared and saves time.

If you are cultivating plots of land, manual might be the best for you but not advise to.use manual labours on large hectares of land.

After this the second stage is to source for your suckers to plant.

I will show you the 2 types of suckers you can use and the best one for you to make good profit.

it is not wise to use heavy machinery like tractors to clear the land because they destroy the rich top soil essential for good growth and development of plantain which roots thrives better within the 20cm to 30cm top layer of the soil

 Allah spoke in the Quran that Jesus was sent to the world with the Injil ( Gospel of Salvation) which contains Light, Guidance and Admonition to those who fear God (Sura 5:46)
 Quran says that people should judge by what God has revealed in the Injil ( Jesus Gospel of Salvation) and those who do not judge by what is revealed in it are the rebellious and transgressors (Sura 5:47)
 Through an Angel, God referred to Jesus as His Son (Sura 3:45) (Sura 19:19)
 Quran says that there is no other god besides He in whom the children of Israel believe (Sura 10:90). The God of the children of Israel is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Acts 3:13) and He is the God who is a Trinity (1 John 5:7)

 The Quran confirms that Mary, the earthly mother of Jesus was a virgin and conceived as a virgin (Sura 19:19-21)
 The Quran confirms that Jesus had no human father. Quran in Sura 21:91 says that Mary was breathed into by God and she conceived (Sura 21:91), meaning that Jesus is the Son of God. The process of His conception described in the Quran in Sura 19:19-21 and Sura 21:91 are not different from the Biblical account in Luke 1:30-35.

The above revelations in the Quran about Jesus and His Gospel of Salvation establish clearly that Jesus is the Saviour and the Right Way to follow. Then why are the Moslem denying Christ and not complying with what the Quran commands them, to believe in Jesus? Is this not disobedience to Allah on their part? However man is a free moral agent with the power of choice to believe or to disbelieve; and to choose his own path either to salvation or to destruction.

Jesus is the way and the key to eternal life, there is no doubt about this and even your Holy Book, the Quran confirms this in Sura 5:46 and Sura 5:47; Sura 3:55 and Sura 3:56; and many other verses. God spoke through these verses and others that Jesus is the way to eternal life.
That someone claims to be a Christian does not mean that he will inherit eternal life if he does not abide by the teachings of Christ. The Holy Bible states the conditions for a believer to enter into Heaven and one of them is holiness and righteousness. Those who live in sin and call themselves Christians will end up in hell if they die in sin ( Matthew 7;21-23) (Hebrews 10:26-31). Jesus will reject only those who lived rebellious lives, who lived sinful lives and the Holy Quran also confirms this that Jesus will testify against those who do not believe in Him on the day of resurrection (Sura 4:159). Those who obeyed the Scriptures and lived Christlike lives will end up in Heaven with Christ for all eternity. Christianity is not a religion but is a personal relationship with God through Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Those Christians who play church and play religion with their faith and jeopardize the personal relationship will perish in eternal Hell. So do not be discouraged by the negative lives of some Christians. Every man will give his own personal account on the day of judgment (2 Corinthians 5:10)

So my brother, there is no other way to salvation except Jesus Christ who died and rose again which the Holy Quran attests to in Sura 19:33-34
Religion / Re: Muslims, Please Listen To John!!!. by knowledge4(m): 4:27pm On Jul 25, 2018
God spoke in The Quran in Sura 19:19-21 and Sura 21:91 testifying that Jesus is the Son of God which is not different from the Biblical context in Luke 1.30-35. So why are they denying that Jesus is not divine? He has a divine father and an earthly mother who was a virgin. Sura 21:91 confirms that God breathed into Mary and she conceived which agrees with Luke 1:35 where the Holy Spirit overshadowed her and she conceived Jesus.
Religion / Re: Whatsapp Group For Christians And Muslims by knowledge4(m): 11:16pm On Jul 23, 2018
I have questions to ask and i want Moslem brethren to please answer the questions
Recently, i met a Moslem Alfa and we became friends. He encouraged me to study the Holy Quran and for the first time, i read the Holy Quran (English Version). I came across highly interesting information about Jesus Christ in the Holy Quran and i want to share some of them

God spoke in the Holy Quran in Sura 5:46 that He sent Jesus to confirm the Taurat (Laws of Moses) and that He gave Jesus the Injil (Gospel of Jesus) which contains Guidance, Light and Admonition to those who fear God.

Sura 5:47 says that people should judge by what God has revealed in the Injil (Gospel of Jesus) and those who refuse to judge by what is written in it are transgressors.

God spoke in the Holy Quran in Sura 3:55 that He will make those who believe in Jesus to be superior to those who disbelieve.

God spoke in the Holy Quran in Sura 3:56 that those who disbelieve in Jesus will be punished with a severe torment in this world and in the hereafter

Sura 10:90 says that there is no god who has right to be worshipped besides the God in whom the children of Israel believe.

God spoke in the Holy Quran in Sura 10:94 that those who doubt should ask those who were given the Book (The Holy Bible)

God spoke in the Holy Quran in Sura 45:16 that the Scriptures were given to the children of Israel, and its understanding, and the Prophethood, and the children of Israel are preferred above all other nations.

Sura 3:45, Sura 19:19-21 and Sura 21:91 confirm the birth of Jesus Christ as conceived by a Virgin, and by a divine father.
Sura 3:55 and Sura 19:33-34 testify to the death of Jesus Christ
Sura 3:55, Sura 19:33-34 and Sura 4:158 testify to the ascension and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

In the Holy Quran in Sura 19:33-34, Jesus prophesied His death and resurrection which agrees with the Bible account in Luke 18:31-33. So why do not the Moslem believe in what the Holy Quran confirmed about Jesus Christ and his message of Salvation to the world?

There are many more interesting details about the ministry of Jesus revealed in the Holy Quran besides the above few.

My questions are as follows:

Since God has spoken through the Holy Quran that Jesus and His Gospel of Salvation are the Way for mankind to follow, why are the Moslems not abiding by God's command? (Reference to Sura 5:46 and Sura 5:47). If these verses are directed to Christians only, why do not the Moslems respect the God given right of the Christians to practise their faith in peace? Why do they hate Christians? If God authorizes them to hate Christians, can God contradict Himself? Can God talk from two sides of His mouth, saying one thing and meaning another? Can God's Word fail?

Since God has declared that there is no other god besides the God whom the children of Israel believe, why are the Moslems opposing the children of Israel and Christians in general, killing them and burning their churches? Is this not a disobedience to God? And why do not the Moslems believe in the God of the children of Israel who is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Acts 3:13) and the God who is a Trinity (1 John 5:7)?

Since God has declared in the Holy Quran in Sura 45:16 that the children of Israel are preferred above all other nations, why do the Moslems hate the children of Israel, seeking their destruction?

Why do the Moslems deny the Virgin birth, divinity, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ which are facts clearly confirmed by God in the Holy Quran? (Reference to Sura 3:45;Sura 3:55; Sura 19:19-21;Sura 19:33-34; Sura 4:158.

Can anyone answer these questions?
Religion / Re: 100 Pieces Of Advice From The Qur'an by knowledge4(m): 8:07am On Jul 22, 2018
In the Holy Quran, in Sura 10:90, God spoke that there is no other god who has right to be worshipped but He in whom the children of Is real believe.
My question again is that if God has spoken in the Holy Quran that the God of the children of Israel is the God to follow and worship, why is there this worldwide conflict between the Moslems and the children of Is real? How many God are there? Is it not only one God we have?
The God of the children of Is real is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob( Acts 3:13). He is the God who is a Trinity( 1 John 5:7)
Why then don't the Moslems believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob which is the God of the children of Isreal?. Who are they that this verse in Sura 10:90 is speaking to? I need answers.

I have questions to ask.
Recently, I met an Moslem brother and we became friends. He is an Alfa. He encouraged me to read the English version of the Holy Quran. I have some questions to ask as follows:
In Sura 5:46, God spoke that Jesus, son of Mary was sent to confirm the Torah (Laws of Moses) and that He was given the Injil (Gospel of Jesus Christ) in which is Light and Guidance and admonition to those who fear God.
Sura 5:47 also says that the people of the Gospel should judge by what God has revealed in it and whoever does not judge by what was revealed in the Gospel (Injil) are they who transgress.
My question is:
If God has directed through the Holy Quran that Jesus Christ and His Gospel of Salvation are the way to follow, why are the Moslems not following Jesus and why are they burning Churches, killing Christians and hating them? Are they not disobeying God's command to them? Is the directives in Sura 5:46 and Sura 5:47 not directed at the Moslems? If these verses are for the Christians only, why don't the Moslems allow them to practice their faith in peace as God has spoken in the Holy Quran?
My Moslem friend has not been able to answer these questions and some Moslem neighbors I approached are avoiding the questions or making me more confused with their response.

Phineas01:
The fact is you cant stop poultry workers from stealing, they always device a new way. The stealing can only be reduced but out completely is not possible.

If the staff cannot steal the eggs, they will steal the feeds, when they steal the feeds, the chickens will be underfed and the egg production will drop. Another avenue to steal is broken eggs. They will break some eggs hoping to be allowed to take them away. Never allow that because if you do, the breaking of eggs will continue. they must account for the broken eggs and let there be a record for broken eggs. Broken eggs can still be sold at a discount. There are buyers who buy broken eggs. there must be a control system in place to protect the feeds from being stolen. Another common method is stealing the chickens. Many farmers' chickens are being stolen and the farmer is unaware. The solution is to do a chicken stock count regularly say once a month. Chicken count is easier in the battery cage system and more difficult, more stressing or almost impossible in the deep litter system where there is a large number of chickens in hundreds on the floor and walking about.

Another avenue is to strangle a chicken and smuggle it out. The staff who does that takes it home to eat or sell to roasted chicken suya vendors. They tell the farmer that some chickens died and were disposed. Never accept that story. Let them know that when a chicken dies, you must be informed. The dead chicken must be kept for your confirmation and this works where the farmer comes there daily or at the close of the day. Where the farmer cannot come for days, this check cannot work as dead chickens must be disposed same day. They must account for dead chickens and a record opened for that. The dead chicken must be buried or burned in the presence of the farmer. Never allow the staff to take the dead chickens away from the farm. if you do, they will continue to kill chickens and take them away.
These controls can work for small farms

Poultry business especially the layers chickens for eggs require the personal attention of the owner as much as possible. This is one major cause of failure of many farms in Nigeria

If i am to do an income and profit analysis for layers chickens, example for 500 chickens,i would do the following:

Cost of buying 500 day old chicks
Cost of feeding 500 chicks for initial 8 weeks in the brooder phase
Cost of feeding in the grower phase week 9-week 20
Cost of feeding in the laying phase from week 20 to end of egg production
Make allowance for mortality
Take cognizance of the periods for consistent egg production and the diminishing egg production phase in the egg production computation
Cost of labor for 5oo chickens
Cost of vaccines
Other farm expenditures such as water, cleaning
Sales price of eggs and quantity to be produced in the consistent egg production phase
Calculate the feeding costs based on buying factory finished feeds or using self milling feeds
Determine cost of producing a crate of eggs
Selling price of old layers
I have the analysis as at March 2018 market prices of feeds in Ms Word format and working on the MS Excel Format

@OP, you concentrated on the profits in poultry farming. That's good enough but didn't differentiate the investment from the profit after the sales. Your analysis is erroneous. Break it down. Differentiate between the Cost of production estimate and estimates the profit from sales.

Good observation. The OP concentrated on assumed and imaginary profits. Is the selling price of a crate of eggs the total profit to the farmer? Are there no costs incurred to produce the crate of eggs? Where is the allowance made for mortality? Cost of production? Cost of labour and other farm expenditure? How much does it cost to feed the chickens from inception to laying phases? The analysis is wrong and grossly misleading.

Which layers chicken breed lays 325 eggs per year? Do you know that there is a phase known as consistent laying phase and the diminishing phase when egg production begins to fall? Have you taken these factors into account?

Yes, I remembered you very well, back then I when I first started up my poultry farm in 2011, you were more of a mentor/ guardian to me, I appreciate your advice and guideline then, though I encountered a big problem that period which include management related issues, and my inability to be at the farm 24/7 as supposed, I lost my farm as a result of being an absentee farmer, even when I was at the verge of thinking of what to do with the remaining 700 birds out of the 1,100 layers I started with, I decided to sell them off, I contacted and informed you about my decision. You advised me on what to and I agreed to sell dem off, you volunteered to give me list of buyers, though I paid for consultancy fee then. What really amazed me most then, was that among the list of 3 bulk bird buyers you gave me, that was ad far back as 2012, I called just one of them, the buyer came and cleared almost the whole birds, though his price wasn't the best bargain i wished for then, but i had no choice than to accept it. I used the proceed I made from the sells in offsetting my already accumulated debt then. That was a big lost and eye opener to me, though I vowed never to go back to poultry farm , but if I will "in future" I made up my mind to make you my mentor. Happy to see your write up again after about 6 years or so.

Sir, I believe you were the farmer at Abeokuta whose 700 chickens were laying too poorly when they were older than 30 weeks, laying about 11 crates daily. Are you the one?

You are right. I know that at the brooder's stage, 1000 birds can't finish 5 bags in a day. They will eat lesser bags. Which increases progressively.

If the brooders phase is taken to be week 0 to week 8, 1000 day old chickens will consume less than 120 bags in the entire 8 weeks. You can use 120 bags to make the budget for feed in the brooder phase in the initial 8 weeks

Secondly, I appreciate the Nairaland community too for their patronage in terms of followership and readership which contributed immensely to the placement of my poultry blog in the league of the Top 50 Poultry Websites and Blogs in the World.

My poultry blog (first signature below) also known as Johnayodele’s blog is listed in the Top 50 Poultry Websites and Blogs in the World. The award ‘ Awarded Top 50 Poultry Blog’ can be seen on the left in the blog pages and clicking on it takes one to the list of the Top and the Best 50 Poultry Blogs in the World.

The Top 50 were selected from among thousands of poultry blogs and among the many criterion used in the selection were quality content and consistency.

The bulk of the traffic which my poultry blog received came from Nairaland. Despite having virtually no traffic from Facebook and Twitter which many of the blogs in the Top 50 have, my poultry blog made the Top 50 on the strength of traffic coming mainly from Nairaland which is commendable.

Johnayodele’s poultry blog was set up in 2010 to educate and re-orientate Nigerians about how to set up a small chicken farm and to manage it with the barest minimum upset, with smiles and smile to the bank. Apparently, it is the only poultry blog in the Top 50 published by a Nigerian.

The better analysis is to determine the cost of feeding in the brooders phase, growers phase and egg laying phase for a given number of chickens
Then determine the quantity of eggs to be produced during the entire laying period and the costs involved
Determine other farm expenses such as wages. Then calculate the cost of producing a crate of egg. Then the profit.

It is better to give some details about the costs of production rather than the profits based on selling prices per crate. the selling price per crate of eggs does not constitute the whole profit. What doe it cost to produce a crate of egg?
Agriculture / Re: Eggs Theft In Poultry: What Is The Way Out? by knowledge4(m): 1:47pm On Jun 06, 2018
There is no control system that can be 100% effective which an absentee farmer can put in place to avoid egg thefts as long as the staffers are not honest. The best way to go is for the farmer who will not always be on the farm is to do the following:

When the chickens start egg production and have attained the peak of production and are laying consistently, the farmer must be present on the farm with the staff on daily basis for a week or two and determine the average egg production per day and per week. If the farmer is an absentee farmer, having determined the average egg production per week, let the staff know that that average is what must be delivered on daily or weekly basis.

If the chickens produce higher than the average, the staff can take the excess but the daily or weekly return must not fall below the average per day or week as the case may be. If it falls, they have to pay for the difference. Then when the chickens egg production enters the diminishing phase, the farmer has to set a new average egg production per day or per week.

If the farmer wants to see every egg laid, then he must be there 24 hours. If he cannot be there and has dishonest staffers, then this method is better. This means the farmer must understand the laying pattern of layers chickens over a period to be able to determine the average per day or week.

Point of lay is better for a beginner in the sense that the chicken has matured beyond the age 0 to age 6 weeks which is the most critical phase in the life of a chicken. The age 0 to age 6 weeks requires expert handling which a first timer may not be able to cope with and may lose many chickens during that phase. Losing many chickens at this stage can demoralize a first timer and be compelled to give up. Credible and reliable sources for point of lay chickens in Nigeria include Animal Care Konsult and CHI Farms
Point of lay range from about age 15 weeks upward. However, you must get the point of lay chickens for layers from credible and reliable sources. The point of lay chickens must be healthy at the time of purchase. Buying unhealthy point of lay chickens and buying from unreliable sources is a sure route to failure in the business.
