Under the traditional marriage system in Nigeria, a man is the sole provider in the household. So, the man is under no obligation to help him with his provider responsibility in the same way the man is under no obligation to aid the woman in carrying out her submission and household responsibilities.

If a man wants a woman to contribute to the family finances, then he had better opt for court marriage, giving up on the master status that goes along with the traditional mindset, ensuring he is ready to share in all of the responsibilities formerly relegated to women in marriage.
